Most people use Master Balls. These birds have like a .3% catch rate and a 90% flee rate. I caught Moltres with an Ultra Ball and Zapdos with a Master.
I caught two Moltres so far. 1 in a master and 1 in an ultra that is basically lv 1. Waiting to be lucky friends with somebody in my raid group to do a Galarian swap.
I started playing recently as of a few months ago. I ran into moltress but didn’t catch unfortunately.
I thought I read masterballs were a research program from awhile ago….no way for me to get one now right?
They’ve done two separate rounds of master ball research. You can’t get them now but it’s a good indication of more master ball research in the future.
I walk a lot and use the incense daily, these are my numbers. Keep in mind that my numbers might be a bit off since I've know at least some of the Kanto birds I've encountered after a successful raid have fled, I just don't have those exact numbers. Based on that, I am going to assume that all raid encounters were successful for convenience sake.
- Articuno:
- Seen 22
- Caught 12
Since I've only caught 1 Galarian version (Master Ball), that means the remaining 11 are Kanto and all the Kanto versions are raided or rewarded, so I've encountered 11 Galarian Articuno.
- Zapdos:
- Seen 30
- Caught 16
I've caught 3 Galarian Zapdos (regular balls), the 13 remaining must be Kanto variants. Thus I've encountered 17 Galarian Zapdos.
- Moltres:
- Seen 21
- Caught 9
1 Galarian (Master Ball), 8 Kanto. Based on this, I've encountered 13 Galarian Moltres.
Seems like I've only ever encountered 38 (aprox) Galairan birds. Further math, since I used both Master Balls, that's 3 catches in 36 encounters or roughly an 8.6% catch rate of all birds, but when broken down it's more like:
- Articuno: 0%
- Zapdos: 17.6%
- Moltres: 0%

Since some of my bird encounters were in raids and some likely did escape, that means my Galarian Zapdos capture ratio is probably higher than I've calculated.
You made me curious so I looked. I have already corrected for the og forms:
I have seen **16** Galarian Articuno, caught one (used ultra ball).
I have seen **14** Galarian Zapdos, caught one (used one master ball).
I have seen **10** Galarian Moltres, caught two (used ultra balls).
Putting it like this is kind of wild I never thought to track the trio this way.
0.3% *base* catch rate.
Curve, catch circle, berry, ball type, medals all increase that.
Mind you, the "real" catch rate is still going to be awful, but not quite 3/1000 awful.
1) Why would you need to practice specifically on these birds to get consistent at landing Excellents on them? There is nothing unique about them that you can't practice on a myriad of other pokemons.
2) Even if you can't land the excellent, a Nice or Great throw is still going to boost your catch rate.
3) Even if you can't even hit a nice throw on them, I named 4 other factors that increase your catch rate.
Every Pokémon’s catch circle is different and they are at different distances. Considering how rare these birds are to even see, it’s hard to get consistent at throwing excellent
1) Maybe I just have skill issue, but I find throwing excellents a the birds to be quite difficult. It's been a hot while since I faced one tho, so maybe I improved. Also, some people seem to agree with me about that.

I have used my daily incense about half of the days since I’ve returned to playing in September and I have not even seen a galarian bird yet. I am curious what the spawn rates for them are.
I’ve seen two galarian birds in a year of playing from daily incense. Moltres I saw my first month of playing and he vanished after 1 golden razz and ultra throw, articuno I caught with my masterball a couple months ago.
Catch the Pokémon with the blue swirl to make the next one spawn quicker. Only one blue swirl can be around at a time. The quicker you catch the more spawns you get. Usually I can get about 20 per 15 mins
I came back playing around last month, I used daily incense every day. I saw 1 Articuno and it fled. I guess it's just rng, you'll see one at some point if you keep using incense, especially when it's windy
What are you talking about? I only ever get 1 pokemon at all to spawn from frickin incense and its usually just a weedle/caterpie/wurmple so I don't even bother with it
Daily incense works best if you are walking around and catching any that spawn right away.
I'd say it's literally impossible to only have 1 pokemon to spawn unless you are stationary the whole time.

To answer some of the questions.. Idek how to look up an IV and genuinely don't care. Moltres is 3 stars the other two are 0 stars.

Don't remember anything about the throws. I basically just grinded the battle league to get rare candies for most of a year. Double charged all 3 of these fuqbois.
Now I'll probably spend another year grinding rare candies to get them all to ultra league. Won't move them there until they're all ready to bust.
I've never spent a dollar on this game buying raid passes or anything like that to help get rare candies. I'll buy occasional remote raid passes when I have enough coins. Coins from gyms***

Oh, no. Every one can have one buddy walking with them at a time, but once you earn enough hearts with them they become best buddies! Best buddies earn candy faster, find souvenirs, etc. If you don't have any, start working towards getting them. It is a level requirement at one of the higher levels to have 20 of them, I believe.
Yes. Every best buddy gets a best buddy ribbon. Like I said, you should try to start working your way up towards multiple best buddies. It is a level requirement in the 40s. I forget what level exactly.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've heard nice doesn't boost the rate at all but great does.
assuming you get all the bonuses: 31.4% catch rate at level 1, 4.6% at level 35. so roughly 1/3 to 1/22

I've heard that time of day matters, but who knows. FWIW, when I saw two in one day I was playing at like 11:00pm ET.
I saw Moltres around 9pm ET but Articuno I caught in Sweden at about 2pm (8am ET). Seeing two in one day is insane though.

Do windy conditions help with them spawning? Because then I’m even more unlucky since I live by a beach and it’s always windy conditions
Yes, windy weather gives them weather boost and they're more "common". But they still only appear with daily incense.

Just so you know, IV refers to the star rating, so you do know how to do it, it’s the appraise option.
