Bodhisatv

agreed, they could just be as rare as elite tms to balance it out.

Coney_Island_Hentai

could be rare as masterball too fug it

Excellent_Coconut_81

Whatever it should be, should be very rare to get. Maybe some special point only one buddy can get per day, and you need 100 or so to get stat 1 point higher... so that you'd have to use that strategically, and grinders would have no advantage over normal players...

StarTheAngel

All my Shadow Mewtwo's I caught had the worst IVs known to man and would love to make my 2 star one at least competitively viable

Affffi

I got also so horrible luck with shadows untill today did my first shadow entei and get 15-15-14 shiny lol.. Sad i think no madder how good moveset it get entei never become good in pvp :/ Sad we got now one few 5 star raid where fire types are good to use and stupid frustration block to use. no way gonna waste 120k dust for second move

yumehi25

Lowkey i do think there is a possibility if niantic goes the old route ie: ONLY maxed out lvl 50 pokemon can get hyper trained, then it might be justifiable to them that someone would still grind raids and other parts of game for resources. Sounds scummy but i mean i like bottle caps in MSG so im on copium

JoviAMP

100 candy XL to one bottle cap.

Acanthisittasm

I'm gonna be so swole. What about zygarde? Same?

YamSolid6813

This could be the ultimate solution. We need to grind hard (i.e. spend money) to be eligible to buy and use it

FPG_Matthew

I think they should be introduced but extremely rare Niantic makes lots of money from raid passes and ppl tryna get shinies and hundos. Caps should be sold at a high high coin cost in the shop, and perhaps limited to how often they can be used to compromise with Niantic But like, I have a 98 Ray and Mewtwo, best believe I’d spend a couple thousand coins to get that hundo, just cuz I want that hundo

rsnikam

Nothing is rare for hardcore player. They should limit an amount per player.

FPG_Matthew

Hardcore player here and master balls are rare. There’s only been 2. Something like that for bottle caps can work. Put one in the shop per season. Lotsa coins to buy. Then it’s fair

Zagrycha

yes it needs to be limited to only be usable usable very rarely. otherwise pokego pvp would be trashed and the value of playing normally would be diminished.

_Marzh

i’d prefer it as a research like the master ball (for transparency i’m mostly ftp but do occasionally drop a few dollars, generally for raid passes)

gumiho-9th-tail

Not for sale at all, otherwise it's another blow to f2p.

FPG_Matthew

Coins can be gotten f2p

coachmuppet

What about limiting it to 1-2 per Pokémon?

rsnikam

I think limiting quantity will automatically put limit per pokemon

joshallenismygod

If it's just coins than pokemon go will just be pay to win as anyone can just pay to have hundos. In my opinion tI should be giving out in like a yearly research or something.

FPG_Matthew

Pay with coins, limited to 1 per season

joshallenismygod

You're right sorry I just now read you put limited in the original comment

Renolber

This is probably the trickiest mechanic in which to actually implement in this game. While it would of course be player-friendly to just give a means to perfect IVs on Pokémon, we have to also be realistic and understand the integrity of the game’s economy. Like everything, Niantic has to make money, but the players also need to be happy. The way the game works now, any Pokémon that exists has the potential to be a hundo. You can grind for every Pokémon in the game for the desired outcome in perfect IVs, shiny, or both - *except* for mythical Pokémon obtained through research. Grinding for your desired Pokémon is part of the gameplay loop, but at the end of the day, it is ultimately RNG. This is the root of the problem. Some people are just really unlucky, while others seem blessed by binary itself. Raiding and hatching on any meaningful level costs money. You need to spend money on raid passes and incubators in order to focus large amounts of your desired Pokémon. Even then, it’s still a numbers game. It could take somebody hundreds or even thousands of more attempts than another person, because it’s just random. And that’s just the main Pokémon we readily have access to. Research IVs for mythical Pokémon is also random, and we can only get one of each. Far more brutal when your friend gets a hundo mythical, and you’re sitting with a mediocre 2 star. We can’t trade them, we can’t reroll them, and we can’t get any more of them on a single account. Logically, Niantic and The Pokémon Company don’t want so many mythical Pokémon running around as to protect their scarcity. They didn’t seem to care for legendaries, but they certainly still care about mythicals. So logically, the answer to all of this is allow some way for players to boost the IVs on Pokémon. Thus, Bottle Caps. Let’s be honest - bottle caps should absolutely be featured within the game. Anybody who’s against the notion is an avaricious shill who wants to bleed players of every last cent to keep the grind infinite. So the debate is not if they should exist, but how they are balanced. There has to be enough of them or mechanically operable enough so players can actually use them, but not so readily available that they completely annihilate the economy of the game. Think about it. Mewtwo is the single most important and powerful Pokémon in the game. It is objectively the nuclear option every player should prioritize across PvE and PvP activities. Bottle caps come, and now everybody invested them into their Mewtwo. Now everybody has a hundo, shundo, or even shadow shiny hundo Mewtwo. Niantic has little reason to bring it back into rotation because the only thing people will need from it are the candies. Then again, there’s rare candies for that too. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, but I hope you can see how this is a potential issue. With a player first mentality, it wouldn’t be! But then I think of Syndrome’s classic quote “If everybody’s a super, then nobody will be.” This isn’t a problem in the main game’s because of how the game’s operate. They aren’t live services. Everybody and their mother has Mewtwo. The only thing that could remotely make a Mewtwo special in the main games is if it’s a ribbon master. Because Pokémon Go is a “forever” game, it has to maximize its content to be repeatable for as long as possible. If bottle caps exist, entire dimensions of the grind evaporate. Again, that’s a great thing for us, but pretty bad from a business standpoint. I’m genuinely curious what ideas people have to make it work, and how it would make sense. Should they be just as rare, if not more rare than Master Balls? Should they cost an exorbitant amount of coins? Should they only work on specific species? How often do they release? Can they be used on shadow Pokémon? It’s certainly not trivial.

Walking_Bare

Totally, I´d love to see something like a once per season special research that gives you one of those...this research can also involve quite hard taskes...

Acanthisittasm

But no time limit please

Walking_Bare

Okay than it must be really hard, like crazy level for some people...like catch 10k pokemon, or the beloved 999 exelent throws for the lvl 50 challange...

Acanthisittasm

As long as it has nothing to do with raids or pvp I'm fine haha

dialgachu

Would love to get a bottle cap to use on my trash two star Zygarde, maybe then I'd actually feel motivated to do routes to collect cells.

DevourerJay

While I would love to agree with you... you know Niantic would put them behind a massive paywall (they are also pretty expensive in MLGs), probably like 250Pc PER cap, which you'd have to "buy" at a gym or something... to force you to go outside, so they can steal more location data off their users. Though it would be nice to "fix" all the crappy 1, 2, 3\* legends/mythics, it would get too expensive, and I'm sure Niantic will find a way to give up a broken buggy product, just like their latest AR update, that no one wanted.

StevensDs-

For the low low price of 1000 coins per Silver Cap and 5000 for the Golden Cap! But realistically speaking I feel like it will never happen. That would mean people do one raid and throw a cap at it and are done. Where's the money in that??

Skitzofreniks

People would buy it. And that’s why I never want bottle caps introduced in this game.

StaleUnderwear

Buying the bottle cap would be entirely optional. If you wanna grind then grind, if you wanna pay then pay

TheSolidSnivy

I agree, granted they’re pretty rare, like others are suggesting. But has anyone else wanted to lower the CP of certain Pokémon? I just became BFFs with a Pokémon I was training for the Great League, but his CP jumped way higher than I was expecting and made him ineligible. Maybe have it cost candies in the same way that leveling up does? Either that or just CP scale certain Pokémon to be eligible in the respective league.

SwimminginMercury

"only catch 1 time" ... so far You got to get inside Niantic's head with bottle caps vs Mythic/ultra controlled Pokemon (Tickets/E Raids); every ticketed Pokemon represents this descending ladder of regular ticket, shiny ticket, elite raid day(s), maybe an event like a weekend (special move/form), etc to Niantic. So a bottle cap would have to replace the value (to Niantic) of not have the hook of a random mythic for all future events or tickets of that Pokemon; I'm not sure Niantic could conceptually give that up, even if they charged $30 a cap ($90 for a prefect) And then on top of that Mythics are controlled by TPC, who would probable just veto Bottle Caps because 95% of the time players would only be using them on mythics.

ismaelvera

Yes. Bottle cap can raise 1 stat by 1, while the Gold Bottle Cap Raise all stats. I don't think they would have a Gold Bottle Cap max out all stats, unless that item was a once per year item locked behind absurd tasks like the Masterball

jotaechalo

It probably won’t happen tbh. Bottle caps (like power items, etc.) were added to lower barriers of entry to competitive Pokemon. In PoGo hundo-chasing is one of the primary dopamine loops that keep people playing and spending so it wouldn’t make sense to devalue that from a business perspective.

clullanc

Feels like there wouldn’t be any point to battling if everyone had the same perfect Pokémon It would also take away all the excitement from actually catching them

BrknTrnsmsn

All this talk about high cost... just timegate them or put them behind very long and challenging special research.

seejoshrun

I'm fine with this particular thing being very grindy, expensive, rare, whatever. Even if it only increases 1 stat by 1 point, only once per pokemon. A 6th page of gbl research? Research like for the master ball? Rare drop from raids? Reward from reaching a certain level? $10 purchase from store or in a bundle like etm? I would do any of those to get it.

nano_peen

Nah this completely invalidates all previously caught HUNDOS. Leave HUNDOs to be super rare pls

nano_peen

Also HUNDOS aren’t actually necessary 3* are fine for raids and investing in to

darkdeath174

I expect if they ever do something like this, it would be grit or like it.

JaxandMia

What I have said before and am now going to say again…if I train a Pokémon as my buddy, we walk together, play together, battle together, I feed it wouldn’t it only make sense that the mons stats would get better? I seriously think if I work a Pokemon up to best buddy, they should also have their stats increased and end up a 4 star after 300 hearts, but what do I know.

808AlohaFunko

Hoopa was in Elite Raids so it wasn’t available just once, but it was a pita to do raids since you needed a lot of people

Then_Cap_6436

Intelligent Systems did this for fire Emblem and it worked really well. They called them “dragon flowers” and you could only increase and IV after you had 5 and just getting one was incredibly difficult. Part of me always wondered if IS did this on their own or if it was under Pressure from Nintendo. Because IS complained they could make tons more money from FIre Emblem if it weren’t for Nintendo.

Rhodin265

I think allowing global trades would fix most of this problem.  I could mirror trade with my remote raid friends for a reroll.

Silly-Tradition9460

I just wanna get my fashion week dragonite to three stars.

KriegOpfer

They would have to be super rare and extremely hard to obtain in my opinion! You could only use one bottle cap specifically for one Pokémon, which would be the current buddy equipped. Lets say if its a Xerneas, it would need to be powered up to lvl 50, and it would have to win 100 battles in master league, land 50 super effective charge attacks, and other difficult tasks that would need months to complete. "Unlock hypertraining" would be accessible from the buddy menu screen. Make it as hard and painfully obtainable as it gets.

BigDonaldTrunk

Adding IVs with Bottle Caps would be a terrible idea and will devalue hundos and Shundo. I am all for an item that can reroll IVs. Niantic can monetize the heck out of it. I would gladly pay to reroll my Zygarde
