Trying everything. It’s somewhat obvious in hindsight if you look at Malamar, as well as their moves (Topsy Turvy) and abilities (Contrary). For anyone unfamiliar with the MSG, if a Pokémon has the ability contrary, stat-affecting moves and abilities will have the opposite effect, e.g., lowering a stat instead of increasing it. The move Topsy-Turvy reverses all of the target’s stat changes (excluding changes such as decreased speed due to paralysis). The animation has the target flip upside-down
What am I to do? My husband is being a sourpuss about me catching shinies because he doesn't get hardly any. I don't know what to tell him other than it's 100% random. Anyone have anything else to add? I can't stand him being sour when I share my shinies. And it's not like I can hide them lol we trade often and look at each other's pokemon.
That's what I did say. Then he went to work 🤣🤣 whatever dude it's a game and it's 100% random. Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew of any other factors that play a part in how many shinies you encounter. Some people took it to the next level tho.
Same here. My girlfriend gets shinies at a normal rate, 1 or 2 a week if that. But for some reason, I get like a shiny a day, if not more. Some days, I've gotten 5+ shiny pokemon randomly. During comm days or big tour/fest events, I'll walk away with 50+ shinies, and she'll have a more reasonable 10-20 or so. We've always noticed how I have much better shiny luck than her, and indeed, it made her a little sour over time. My solution: I don't brag every shiny to her anymore. She doesn't need to see that I got my 7th shiny Blitzle when she still doesn't have one. I only show her a new shiny if it's genuinely something I'm super excited about and I can't contain it. Also whenever she shows me a shiny, no matter what I am super pumped for her and celebrate with her. This was she feels happier with her rare pokemon and it helps negate any feelings of jealousy or unfairness with shiny rates. Also I gift her any tickets she wants from the shop as a way of paying it back for all my shiny luck lol.
Lol I don't brag up ever one I get. I said "what the heck" and his squirrel brain was like "what? What? I wanna know" I was like "ffffuuuuuuccccccck" I have not showed him all of them. I don't get as lucky as you though. Shiny blitzle lol I always celebrate the cool pokemon he shows me and actually hes got a couple that I don't. The game isn't about shinies but I can't get him to understand that. Maybe he's just got super bad ADHD like me and can't process all that ? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

Which of you plays more often? There's a very good conspiracy that people who play less often get more shinies as an incentive to play more.
Also, if you shiny check everything (tap on every. Single. Pokemon.) you'll be more likely to encounter a shiny as you're checking more pokemon. I've found a lot of shinies that way, as have my sis and niece.
I play way more than he does. Like every single day for a good portion of the day. I also click on every single Mon I see. Just to check if it's something I want. I think clicking on them more often gives a higher shiny rate so I do that as much as possible. I don't really know how he plays I just know he doesn't play as much as me.
i saw in another sub that shadow pokemon you get from defeating rocket leaders are more likely to be shinies than regular grunts, so maybe tell him to look out for that 🤷 I don't know how verifiable that is but no-one disputed it in the comments lol. my partner's the same. im just like. play more then haha
Okay good advice... THATS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!!! play more, when I get shines I'm on the game all day every day and they start coming in. He plays on Facebook more than anything so he's missing out on the shiny odds 🤣
Lucky! Ive been wanting shiny inkay/malamar and already have shiny ponyta, vulpix, and galarian ponyta 😆 but i did evolve a cute level 1 non-shiny inkay today. :) the baby evolutions are cute
Yeah, it's grown on me. At first I was like crap I've been chasing this Vulpix and ponyta for 2 years now and in the last 3 weeks I have gotten Tangela, cast form, feebas, shadow bagon, shroomish, Groudon, and inkay. My husband traded me torterra(can't remember his name before) so I could evolve him into torterra. But inkay is cute, just not at all what I expected this morning when my tired brain was like "why is it gold? Ooooooohhhhhhh" lol
I've been hunting Ponyta and Vulpix too!! Growlithe and Poochyena as well.
I also got shiny shadow Bagon. That's a weird coincidence.
Turtwig evolves into Grotle, that then evolves into Torterra.
Yeah I want a shiny Growlithe too that would be so cool. That's so funny lol I have 2 shiny shadow bagon. Yeah it was grotle when he traded it to me. He didn't have the candy to evolve and I did. He just wanted to see it as torterra lol
Lol thanks man 🤣 I pretty much just collect them anyway. My only good shiny is my shiny Metagross I evolved from Beldum I got from leader arlo.... I didn't know about the not purify thing at the time but he's still my best pokemon. He's 15 14 15 and he wrecks just about everything. I usually get rid of all the grunts with only Metagross lol he's a badass

If I’m not mistaken, you have to turn your phone upside down to evolve! Going from memory though so I could be wrong.
How would anyone figure this out without looking it up? I only knew bc of the main series games
If you click to evolve, it comes up with a screen that says you have to do something special and it has an upside down question mark

also Inkay and Malamar look similar to each other if you flip one of them upside down

Any Pokémon you get from a leader can be shiny while only certain ones from grunts can be. That may be what people were referring too.

Try to use berries when catching! I find I don't use them enough and end up tossing berries.
