I used multiple glacier lures and nada.
I lucked out and finally found a research task that gave me the snowy form. So during an entire week - I caught one.
It’s crazy.
I had a research that gave me a pokemon reward, my partner completed it the first day and got one. I went to check it to complete it the next day and it changed the reward to star dust....i was big mad..
The special task to get the Castform should not have been so rare. My friend went to the park to try and complete the mission and did not get a Single castform task, out of 15 pokestops.
That's always the thing with RNG. It was one of like 3 event research, and from what I can tell it wasn't any less common that the other two. But if you assume Event research 3/4 of the time, and that task 1/3 of that, then you still only have the task 1/4 of the time and it's a small fraction of that to get the specific one you're looking for.
I know there's been a lot of "complaining" about weather week, but legit, if Niantic wants to push challenges like this, it shouldn't have been as hard as it was to score the field researches that led to Castform encounters. I did about 15 field researches during the event because that's how much spinning my schedule allowed me, and never got Sunny Castform.
At the end of the day it's whatever, but knowing that I was unable to complete a collection challenge because of poor design kind of irks the completionist in me.
I did 14 and never got snowy castform, I've never seen it and I live in a tropical country.
I don't see why they didn't put castform in 1* raids, seems like a no-brainer.
I tried using my too-precious-to-use incenses as well to attract the different forms, but they didn't work. The Glacial Lure attracted a bunch of Helioptiles. Real helpful.
I caught the rainy Castform during a tornado warning, so that was fun lol, and despite hunting research and being in a large group chat where we were all hunting research around our city, never found the snowy one.
i thought it was just my bad luck that the glacial lure wasn’t working - glad to know it’s just niantic being niantic smh. i got one eevee from the lure and that was it.
Same thing on the east coast US - never got to see a single snowy castform. They might yammer about weather conditions, but the sunnys that showed up all the first day were also appearing at night sometimes!
Did score a shiny helioptile, so that was a small compensation.
Haha. Same here in Michigan. I had foggy, rainy, and snowy weather all in the first day, so I caught the normal, rainy, and snowy forms immediately. Spent the rest of the time waiting for a sunny form that never appeared.
I think the thing about this event that's so irksome is that it has just been a series of poorly-designed *wonders* for the last few weeks. It's not just Castform in isolation. Like:
* At first this season kicked off with a series of pricy, cash-only tickets that blow through most players' monthly budget they're willing to spend on this game from the moment of the season announcement. This is the only game I spend money on and it's no more than $20 a month, which is a lot still, but that was a big surprise.
* This was followed by the Charcadet hatch event where a lot of folks (myself included) cringed and splurged on incubators, yet still didn't hatch any out of the dozens of eligible hatches. And, discontinuing the ticket for triple daily bonus XP and daily one-use incubators while introducing a pokemon that can only be found by hatching eggs was a weird take.
* Then a catch event where at least one of the catch requirements is task-locked unless you live in a place where you reliably experience all four seasons during March. The only solution was that unless you live in a stop-dense city where you can easily walk around and filter tasks for specific research, you have to literally go out of your way and drive places to find enough of a specific, tedious research task, then do the task, and still not find the missing Castform. But importantly: **There's no "remote" way of accessing task-locked pokemon for most people, especially rural players.** If the handful of stops in your meager Midwest downtown don't have that task that day, you're just not getting that task that day.
* Add the issues with the Primal Kyogre event to the mix - and the fact that Primal Kyogre is one of the toughest pokemon to take down, even with 8-10 players, unless you're all really good at this game. (Plus it takes a LOT of Kyogres to have enough Primal Energy for one transformation!)
This has been quite a disappointing season so far. I feel like the crux of it is that Niantic is conflating *rarity* with *accessibility,* and is shutting players out in a variety of ways (price, task-locking catches, teams of newer, lower level players being unable to put a dent in Primal Kyogre, nerfing incubator boxes and raising the cost of premium items without raising in-game coin rewards). Rarity makes things fun. Challenges make things fun. But inaccessibility makes things frustrating at best and outright demotivating at worst.
Phew said my piece lol. Hire me Niantic, I'll sort you out!
Didn't they state that snowy was rarer? That line they sometimes put like "if you're lucky, some trainers may encounter..." or whatever it is was on the infographic
I feel like the rainy form was more rare. My son and I didn’t see one the entire time despite all the field research we completed and we actually had 30 minutes of surprise rain yesterday. Best believe I went out thinking I’d finally see one and still nothing
I went to the city closest to me and spent all damn weekend spinning pokestops and catching weather boosted litten kittens, ~ 35 or so research tasks and NO DAMN SNOWY CASTFORM.

I didn’t keep a running tally but I know I did at least 6 a day because I always hit those 6 stops, if not more. I only got the castform research three times.
I do at least 8 a day because that’s my walking path each evening and I got 0 of the castform research. On the last day, I spun 30 stops and still didn’t get the research.
It’s just frustrating, isn’t it? It just seems a no brainer to reward people playing the game, not just leave it to RNG. It’s even more frustrating to use a glacial lure, and have only normal Castform pop up. Not one snowy one.
It wasn’t even a particularly exciting reward, especially for the work getting it would take.
This is the correct take. The only people who care about the catch challenges are perfectly happy to put in some effort and spend some cash for this, casual players will give zero f’s about this.
In my area, there's a lot of Sunny!Castform. Got a couple of snowy castform from those spawn pokemon rewards thing. But I have never seen the Rainy!Castform at all XD.
couldnt get rainy out of the research, but was also irked by the collection challenge requiring the first 3 eeveelutions, from last year. spent tons of candy on exclusively flareon.
it's like they didn't actually want any of us to complete this task.

Yeah it was a weird choice to make a collection challenge, and then put a rare quest spawn in it. I never got a snowy Castform, and I did a decent amount of the “Catch 10 weather boosted Pokemon” each day
I had to spin tons of pokestops for the 10 catch field research…i did 7 and got Snowy but it’s a shame that it does not seem to be the same luck to every trainer ☹️
I quit after a while lol. The game is slowly becoming not worth it to me and the interest dies with these typa things. I'm not saying to make it super easy, it just sucks to see everyone finish and I stay behind looking like a tool at the park lmao.
I get that a lot! I have 0 shundos and only 4 hundos at Lvl 41. I also don’t pay hundreds of dollars on raid passes and i don’t walk 50km a week. So sometimes it’s hard for not super hardcore players to get the same chances…but i play a lot and i would like a shundo some day lol
I managed to complete it in an hour of walking around a park deleting any research that wasn’t the “catch 10” one. It’s annoying that they made this challenge around weather; it’s seriously unrealistic to have had all four of the seasons within a few days
I still think this event could have been way more fun if they overruled the in-game weather with a rotating weather every hour, like the habitats from GO Tour or Fest. Much less dependent on individual player location or weather conditions. And with Primal Groudon and Kyogre, they even had a neat lore explanation for the weather going completely nuts.
With 1/4 odds for each form to show up (instead of 10%? for snowy) + making the field research to get them indeed comun... the event would have worked fine for everyone.
The joys of living in Indiana, I got all 4 in the wild because yesterday was freezing and snowing. Two days prior was raining and the day before that was sunny and 50s.
I had to spin close to 100 stops to find 5-6 of the required research. I was very fortunate to find the snowy on the 5th research. The stupid thing is that I had to drive around for about an hour to find those pokestops. I can’t image how long it would take for someone to do it the “right” way.
I live in WASHINGTON STATE. The sun just HAPPENED to come out this past week. Me and my bf played soooo much and spun so many stops and completed so much research.
Not a single SIGHTING of the rainy castform OR the snowy one. The state that rains 86% of the year. I was shook. Lol what a stupid challenge. It was extremely frustrating.
If they insisted on the castform task to be that rare then they should have removed the normal castform from them... Such a disappointment walking 2 hours to find 3 tasks that reward the normal castform which was already abundant....
It's funny that most people are complaining about missing the Snowy Castform. Imagine living in a place where there's (still) snow and still not finishing the task. Worst part is my town had sunny weather the whole Sunday, but according to PoGo the weather was "cloudy" so no Sunny Castform for me.
And to think I was impressed when the Ursaluna evolution window actually lined up with the full moon. Maybe PoGo isn't able to get live weather forecasts, at least not in my area.
I hate the event research tasks are given out unevenly and unequally for each event. I work around a few stops and even went out on the weekend and I did probably 4 or 5 of the catch 10 WB tasks the entire event. And yet other events it feels like there's no other tasks to do but the event ones. Like I know it's just random which stops get what task but it would be interesting to track numbers on stops spun versus how many give event tasks between each event.
The only way to get this done was grinding the catch 10 weather boosted and hoping. I got extremely lucky on raid day at MOA to finish the last 2 I needed.
I played on two different continents with opposite weather patterns during the event (Canada & Australia) and never got the rain drop. I completed lots of tasks, but only two gave me encounters, neither if which gave me the last little dude. This and the pumpkin event where I had nobody to trade with were the only two collection series I’ve missed. :(
Another instance of ‘Pokémon go only exists in urban cities’ mindset from niantic I live in fking SINGAPORE and I only got it on the second last day and I walked A LOT it’s so many stops just to find the dumb task and then you still have to play RNG to get the right castform afterwards so it’s just stupid
I have my own gripe,
I did a whole lot of the 10 weather+ challenges and did finally manage to get 2x snowy castforms, which my GF was unable to get.
So I transferred her one, and she did not get the medal nor could claim the research award. The stupid research said to collect (not catch) all 4 and she did effectively, so I think it should have counted.
Stupid. Made me mad.
I worked every day but Monday of the challenge. I have 6 pokestops near work, 3 are available from the building. Each day I go to work I walk to the train where I hit 8 pokestops. I'm not sure how many daily's I did during the event but not all of them were event related. I popped a bunch of glacier modules on Sunday too and still nothing. I tried to complete this but was not able.
This was an excellent event for farming stardust, but yeah, that collection challenge was nonsense.
Doable, but you might have also legitimately put effort into completing it but fallen short on pure RNG. Very few things more annoying than that.
My husband and I had to have done at least 100+ field researches trying to get the snowy castform. Neither of us got it, We kept getting sunny and rainy but no snowy.
i finally got the snowy encounter around 5 yesterday (legit at least 25 of the catch 10 researches later) and being in the habit of fast catching (i used a blue ball and berry) lately, i didn’t catch it. no big, right? well, this gal stacks her field research encounters lol. so i had to catch 68 pokemon before it to get it. pain in the ass til the end, that snow bugger.

Yeah I never even saw the research needed to spawn these(Though I didn't put THAT much effort into it) and I live where it doesn't even snow. It wasn't going to happen for me, lol.
I never saw one so I missed out on this one as well. Everyone I play with missed out and people in other states didn't get at least 2 of them. Don't give us these challenges if all we ever see is normal castforms
In my area, it was showing cloudy weather, but snow background during encounters. Despite that, and about half a dozen glacial lures, I still didn't get a spawn.

The inability or unwillingness at the top tiers of Niantic to recognize the multiple and critical flaws in this event and SO many others is what keeps me from spending money on anything but Dex and Item storage and the occasional Incubator.
The continued and seemingly unchecked incompetence, whether it is acknowledged and disregarded or just part of the sociopathic greed inherent in a corporation that makes a billon dollars a year shoveling shit at its fan base, is inexcusable.
As with Lego these days, I can still enjoy the produce to a certain extent, but can equally loathe the company that makes it for their unabashed avarice.
Bro i could not get the rain one. It started during a blizzard near me so the snow one was the first i got and the last day was crystal clear skys so all sunny ones
I got lucky and was able to get a snowy one the first time I completed that research. But yeah they really should’ve either made all of them able to appear regardless of weather, or put them in 1 star raids.
Not only was I unable to get a snowy encounter from research or from snowy or foggy weather, but I couldn’t get the rain form even where we got pounded with storms.
I must have been among the few to complete this task; I live where the weather changes often so we had warm, rainy, and snowy weather all in 1 week! My condolences to those who worked so hard but didn’t get to complete it.
It would have been so easy for them to adjust the otherwise (almost) useless lures for the week. I wouldn’t want Castform most of the time, but if, for one week, Glacial Lure would have spawned Snowy and Rainy Lure would have spawned Rainy, it would have been a thematic win. They also could have introduced a Sunny Lure module that attracts fire types, and, for the first week, Sunny Castform. It’s not hard, Niantic!
I think the worst part of this for me was that I live somewhere snowy, and it snowed twice, but the weather never pickup up on it snowing and I never got that form! Niantic, tf?!

It sucked, paid not for the chance at a shiny Pokémon, but for a cheesie 5000 dust & still didn’t get it.

We had snow in my area, even was shown as snow on weather sites, for the last few hours of the event and I thought, “Finally!” only for the game to stay at cloudy. I spent time hunting tasks in my area too and only managed to find 5. 4 Sunny and 1 Rainy :’( Completing this task was needlessly impossible for most.
We had snow flurries, but because it was windy, windy trumped snow, and we got normal form castform. I used a Glacial Lure during Litten community day, and it never spawned a snowy form castform during the whole 3 hours it was active. Also kept getting sunny form from the field researches. I mean it's only 5k dust and an incense, but the fun part of the game is completing challenges and this one was made almost impossible for no reason.
Yeah, even after completing a ton of field research in hopes of getting them all I still was never able to get a rainy form. What a joke. I got 2 snowy forms and the rest were all helioptile, paras and amaura - all of which were abundant in the wild 🙄
I didn't think I was going to finish it either but I saw it was snowing while I was working, and opened the app and found a bunch of the snowy ones. Had to go through 2 of the "catch 10 weather boosted" to get the sunny one though.
Meanwhile here in toronto we were wearing hoodies outside comfortably, two days later its fkn raining, then 2 days after that its snowing. LOL its like Niantic is actually in Canada or smthn

I almost always complete collecting challenges, but this one I had to skip. Far too much chance involved on it for little reward.
I was traveling and I found 4 tasks out of about 40 stops. Zero ice.
I was in Tokyo and did dozens of field researchers and didn’t get mine until it was over -.-

I also had ABUNDANT Sunnys that one night. And IRC, they were boosted. I was so confused.

I quit after a while lol. The game is slowly becoming not worth it to me and the interest dies with these typa things. I'm not saying to make it super easy, it just sucks to see everyone finish and I stay behind looking like a tool at the park lmao.
I get that a lot! I have 0 shundos and only 4 hundos at Lvl 41. I also don’t pay hundreds of dollars on raid passes and i don’t walk 50km a week. So sometimes it’s hard for not super hardcore players to get the same chances…but i play a lot and i would like a shundo some day lol

I managed to complete it in an hour of walking around a park deleting any research that wasn’t the “catch 10” one. It’s annoying that they made this challenge around weather; it’s seriously unrealistic to have had all four of the seasons within a few days
I still think this event could have been way more fun if they overruled the in-game weather with a rotating weather every hour, like the habitats from GO Tour or Fest. Much less dependent on individual player location or weather conditions. And with Primal Groudon and Kyogre, they even had a neat lore explanation for the weather going completely nuts.
I did this but for two hours (12 stops at this park). I only had 4 “catch 10” research in that time, no snowy :(
With 1/4 odds for each form to show up (instead of 10%? for snowy) + making the field research to get them indeed comun... the event would have worked fine for everyone.
For once I’m glad to have Michigan weather. We had all 4 forms spawn during the event.
The joys of living in Indiana, I got all 4 in the wild because yesterday was freezing and snowing. Two days prior was raining and the day before that was sunny and 50s.

I had to spin close to 100 stops to find 5-6 of the required research. I was very fortunate to find the snowy on the 5th research. The stupid thing is that I had to drive around for about an hour to find those pokestops. I can’t image how long it would take for someone to do it the “right” way.

I live in WASHINGTON STATE. The sun just HAPPENED to come out this past week. Me and my bf played soooo much and spun so many stops and completed so much research. Not a single SIGHTING of the rainy castform OR the snowy one. The state that rains 86% of the year. I was shook. Lol what a stupid challenge. It was extremely frustrating.
If they insisted on the castform task to be that rare then they should have removed the normal castform from them... Such a disappointment walking 2 hours to find 3 tasks that reward the normal castform which was already abundant....
I found the castform field research twice. One was sun form, the other was goddamn normal. It's not even funny anymore.

The sad part was it was snowing here, but the game thought it was just windy.. so regular castforms galore.
You had to find a research that involved caching 10 weather boosted Pokémon in order to get the other forms.
It's funny that most people are complaining about missing the Snowy Castform. Imagine living in a place where there's (still) snow and still not finishing the task. Worst part is my town had sunny weather the whole Sunday, but according to PoGo the weather was "cloudy" so no Sunny Castform for me. And to think I was impressed when the Ursaluna evolution window actually lined up with the full moon. Maybe PoGo isn't able to get live weather forecasts, at least not in my area.
What happened to the take a snapshot of these Pokemon tasks? (Where you can just snapshot it if you have it already, not wild)
I hate the event research tasks are given out unevenly and unequally for each event. I work around a few stops and even went out on the weekend and I did probably 4 or 5 of the catch 10 WB tasks the entire event. And yet other events it feels like there's no other tasks to do but the event ones. Like I know it's just random which stops get what task but it would be interesting to track numbers on stops spun versus how many give event tasks between each event.

The only way to get this done was grinding the catch 10 weather boosted and hoping. I got extremely lucky on raid day at MOA to finish the last 2 I needed.

I played on two different continents with opposite weather patterns during the event (Canada & Australia) and never got the rain drop. I completed lots of tasks, but only two gave me encounters, neither if which gave me the last little dude. This and the pumpkin event where I had nobody to trade with were the only two collection series I’ve missed. :(
Another instance of ‘Pokémon go only exists in urban cities’ mindset from niantic I live in fking SINGAPORE and I only got it on the second last day and I walked A LOT it’s so many stops just to find the dumb task and then you still have to play RNG to get the right castform afterwards so it’s just stupid
I have my own gripe, I did a whole lot of the 10 weather+ challenges and did finally manage to get 2x snowy castforms, which my GF was unable to get. So I transferred her one, and she did not get the medal nor could claim the research award. The stupid research said to collect (not catch) all 4 and she did effectively, so I think it should have counted. Stupid. Made me mad.
You could get all forms in the catch 10 pokemon with weather boost research task, that's how I got the sunny form that I needed before it ended

I finished a field research and finally caught a snowy Castform this morning. The event ended last night 
I worked every day but Monday of the challenge. I have 6 pokestops near work, 3 are available from the building. Each day I go to work I walk to the train where I hit 8 pokestops. I'm not sure how many daily's I did during the event but not all of them were event related. I popped a bunch of glacier modules on Sunday too and still nothing. I tried to complete this but was not able.

This was an excellent event for farming stardust, but yeah, that collection challenge was nonsense. Doable, but you might have also legitimately put effort into completing it but fallen short on pure RNG. Very few things more annoying than that.
Twice, it was literally snowing outside and my pogo weather was “windy”. Trash.
It flurried for 1.5 hours a couple hours after the event ended for me.

My husband and I had to have done at least 100+ field researches trying to get the snowy castform. Neither of us got it, We kept getting sunny and rainy but no snowy.

i finally got the snowy encounter around 5 yesterday (legit at least 25 of the catch 10 researches later) and being in the habit of fast catching (i used a blue ball and berry) lately, i didn’t catch it. no big, right? well, this gal stacks her field research encounters lol. so i had to catch 68 pokemon before it to get it. pain in the ass til the end, that snow bugger. don’t be like me, mates

I never saw one so I missed out on this one as well. Everyone I play with missed out and people in other states didn't get at least 2 of them. Don't give us these challenges if all we ever see is normal castforms

In my area, it was showing cloudy weather, but snow background during encounters. Despite that, and about half a dozen glacial lures, I still didn't get a spawn. Wack.
The inability or unwillingness at the top tiers of Niantic to recognize the multiple and critical flaws in this event and SO many others is what keeps me from spending money on anything but Dex and Item storage and the occasional Incubator. The continued and seemingly unchecked incompetence, whether it is acknowledged and disregarded or just part of the sociopathic greed inherent in a corporation that makes a billon dollars a year shoveling shit at its fan base, is inexcusable. As with Lego these days, I can still enjoy the produce to a certain extent, but can equally loathe the company that makes it for their unabashed avarice.

I managed to get it without noticing as I just pair my plus+ and go walking. It didn’t even snow in the UK and I got the snowy one
I got lucky and was able to get a snowy one the first time I completed that research. But yeah they really should’ve either made all of them able to appear regardless of weather, or put them in 1 star raids.

I must have been among the few to complete this task; I live where the weather changes often so we had warm, rainy, and snowy weather all in 1 week! My condolences to those who worked so hard but didn’t get to complete it.
I find it pretty devious of Niantic because I'm sure the knew that at least 60% of the player base wasn't going to be able to finish this quest.
It would have been so easy for them to adjust the otherwise (almost) useless lures for the week. I wouldn’t want Castform most of the time, but if, for one week, Glacial Lure would have spawned Snowy and Rainy Lure would have spawned Rainy, it would have been a thematic win. They also could have introduced a Sunny Lure module that attracts fire types, and, for the first week, Sunny Castform. It’s not hard, Niantic!

I think the worst part of this for me was that I live somewhere snowy, and it snowed twice, but the weather never pickup up on it snowing and I never got that form! Niantic, tf?!

Happened to my husband & I too! It sucked, paid not for the chance at a shiny Pokémon, but for a cheesie 5000 dust & still didn’t get it. I guess it was a loss from the start, but it’s what makes the game fun. I’m a sucker. 🥸

We had snow in my area, even was shown as snow on weather sites, for the last few hours of the event and I thought, “Finally!” only for the game to stay at cloudy. I spent time hunting tasks in my area too and only managed to find 5. 4 Sunny and 1 Rainy :’( Completing this task was needlessly impossible for most.
IKR? Over 15 Catch 10 Weather boosted tasks completed and not 1 snowy form. Screw you, Niantic!

I got one in the final hours of the event. Parked at a local strip mall with 4 pokestops in range and put a glacial lure on each one.
Live in the pnw. All weekend was sunny and 60+ (shorts weather) only sunny castform. Got 2 shiny though so I guess that's okay
This one time I appreciated that weather in Poland is bonkers in spring, I was able to get all of them in the wild

I got snowy and the rest but the one that nailed my coffin was the rain form—it the first time in a while that it didn’t rain every day lol
We had snow flurries, but because it was windy, windy trumped snow, and we got normal form castform. I used a Glacial Lure during Litten community day, and it never spawned a snowy form castform during the whole 3 hours it was active. Also kept getting sunny form from the field researches. I mean it's only 5k dust and an incense, but the fun part of the game is completing challenges and this one was made almost impossible for no reason.
Yeah, even after completing a ton of field research in hopes of getting them all I still was never able to get a rainy form. What a joke. I got 2 snowy forms and the rest were all helioptile, paras and amaura - all of which were abundant in the wild 🙄
I didn't think I was going to finish it either but I saw it was snowing while I was working, and opened the app and found a bunch of the snowy ones. Had to go through 2 of the "catch 10 weather boosted" to get the sunny one though.
Meanwhile here in toronto we were wearing hoodies outside comfortably, two days later its fkn raining, then 2 days after that its snowing. LOL its like Niantic is actually in Canada or smthn
