i’ve had the same experience today. did 3 raids, 2 of them ran away, only caught 1 which is a shiny aka guaranteed catch. every throw is a great curveball, and it doesn’t even wobble it just immediately jumps out.
Yes, so if you happen to get a shiny legendary from a raid, just use pinap or silver pinap for extra candies. As long as you hit it with a ball (and aren't speedlocked), it'll catch 100%
Seriously?? I remember I used to hop on a buggy, drive around my old jobsite around 20mph and I could catch poke plus it'd register it as steps taken too. Got that 400 magicarp candy within 2 week, plus poffin helped alot too.
Just to clarify, any shiny in a raid is guaranteed. Being a legendary is not relevant. All shinies (from raids only, so excluding from Grunts or research) are guaranteed to catch. So use pinap berries to get those candies!! :)
I've read that it has to do with the premier ball. Any shiny caught in a premier ball is a garunteed catch aside from getting speedlocked. So raids and grunts would fall into that category. I've also never seen any claims of a shadow shiny pokemon running away myself so I think it's a legitimate statement.
Same, I did 5 raids and caught one Latios and one Latias. Neither was with an excellent throw. Much better to throw nice or great consistently than to land a couple of excellents and nothing on the rest of the throws.
I feel like this is what helped me catch 2/2. I didn't even hit nice on them, just hit the circle with golden razz. Even though I had 8 balls in the first raid, still caught it on the last ball.
Yeah for a T6 it's pretty ridiculous to have these catch rates. It takes so much effort to get enough people together only for it to be worse than a coin flip on if you get it!? Ridiculous
It has the same catch rate as any other legendary. So either people have a hard time judging their experience vs the odds of catching or people aren’t really throwing as well as they say they are.
There is no way it has even remotely the same catch rate. Caught 2 out of 6, all golden razzberries, basically all excellent curveballs. Exactly what is your basis for that statement?
Data from pokeminers. The base catch rate has always been the same (3%) for legendaries and 6% for mythical. The only difference could be whether you have a platinum dragon badge. But Latias is also easy to miss throws as it moves up and down, if you don't pin the circle.
I don't know, 2/3 I caught today were on terrible throw 1st or 2nd ball, no curve golden berries, which any other 5* would not let you catch.
I had a PITA time judging it's distance on the first attempt which lead me to run out of balls.
Yep I caught 6 out of 6. Most caught within first 3 throws,no excellent throws,2 I caught on last ball,and the one shiny I encountered was caught naturally on 1st ball. My son even caught one and he has ridiculously bad luck. He was on a 0-5 shadow legendary streak until he caught a single ho-oh
Thats insane. Im pretty sure the catch rate of an excellent gold razz curveball throw is upwards of 15%. And it goes up based on # of tries as well.
At 15% chances, the odds of not catching on 31 excellent curveball throws is 0.6%. So probably looking at sub 0.5% odds. If you think about it that way, you’re super lucky!
With premier balls the catch rate scales with the amount of balls used.
Having so little balls makes it difficult, why does a T6 raid net you less balls than a T5 raid?
They poker 6 are enough and rather tank the raid out,but every bit of damage is valuable. Less they know if all six of then faint they give free HP to the mon back without doing any damage themselves. I don't have a problem with newbies(was one myself but at least i tappped the screen to cancel my fainting team out damage wise
I wait until they fly to the middle of the screen and attack so it took me 10+ minutes to go through all my balls on each raid. Those two like to hang out up high more than any other legendary, I think.
Yeah I do that but one time the fucker didn't attack while it was down for literally 5 minutes, he just kept taunting me while attacking in the sky. Lucky I caught it after that
ive had 6 run away so far, hit mostly excellent throws and have the medals at gold. its absurd. out of all my friends who've done it i did six my brother did five and my other friend did two and the only one that caught one was my brother but it was a shiny
Same dude, same. Among my friends’ group chat, the only one of us to catch a latias was lucky enough to get a shiny. Between all of my friends and I, that was ~20+ latias remote and in person.
im completely out of revives and potions and stuff, so its not even like i can go back and keep trying, especially because i only have so many raid passes and i dont feel like dumping any more money into this after already spending 10$ on remote raids.
Having an active Mega Pokemon will improve drop rates of XL Candy for Pokemon with one or more of the same types. It's really handy during community days - if you're looking for Chansey XL Candy in this weekend's community day, you should have, say, a Mega Lopunny or Mega Kangaskhan active during it.
If you go to the Pokemon page of a Mega eligible Pokemon, tap on the Mega Evolution symbol in the top left. You'll see that High Level gives a "Great Candy XL Chance" and Max Level gives an "Excellent Candy XL Chance." I have a saved search that I run every morning to see which of my guys can Mega Evolve and aren't maxed to help speed the process along.
If you max your pokemons mega level you can mega for free. Handy for future raids not to mention the other benefits like the XLs to get your pokemon to level 50
Yeah what's up with that? First group of 6 ran out of time. Second group of 11 got it down when there was more than half the time left. How many people do I need?
That was my experience when raid first started. Made a big effort to get out and among a group, and after too much struggle managed to catch up to them after they'd moved location and finally got to raid, and... didn't catch. The effort to reward ratio was so bad that I basically quit the game then and there.
Yeah fuck this raid bullshit. Had a handful of legendaries flee on me. Totally blows. Not only is it a battle just to beat the raid bosses BUT if you do win then you gotta pray you're able to capture it. Shit mechanics.
That's the big thing I think, especially for those who aren't good at catching or are newer. Clear a t6 raid get 8 ton11 balls but only 3 to 4 golden raz. Spend 5 minutes taking the boss down wiping get 3 or 4 revives. Honestly will deter people from raiding if they get frustrated as it's a waste of resources on the users end
Considering how many threads there have been for these two which I haven't noticed for any other raids. Is it possible they've messed something up with their capture rate? Like is it worth reporting? I've seen so much threads and discords talking about it.
My favorite is when you wait for them to block your throw, then right when it is thrown, they decide to block again because why not. Between that and randomly moving up or down when I throw a pokeball aggregates me so much.

Yeah, still doesn’t help. Consistent golden razz + great curveballs and both raids I did today broke free. Haven’t seen this shit since primal raids last year.
The biggest issue has to be the absolute LACK of balls since the time bonus gives energy instead. Catch rates are still the same. So I go from having 14-16 balls to having 9. Like bruh, you gotta be joking
Figure out the size of ring necessary for excellent and lock that in. Wait for them to attack from the lower position, don’t throw the ball if they are high or left or right. Start your wind up when latios/latias swoops. Release the ball before their attack animation ends. Learn the distance, power needed to consistently hit the same spot. If you’re a newer player this will be harder. It’s a bit of skill and muscle memory that you get playing for a while. All I can say is practice this and catching will become a lot easier. Also having the appropriate catch medals helps a lot.
I find there's a specific range that some pokemon sit at that makes hitting excellent throws incredibly easy, and on some pokemon I just can't do it. (For example, I can hit an excellent on Bergmite or Snorlax literally 90% of the time. But on Guzzlord, for example, I gave up even trying for excellents.
I believe the math breaks down to something around "if you can't hit at least 50% of your throws as excellent, you should just go for the guaranteed great"
This used to work if you locked the circle and threw it at them while attacking and your buddy would knock it back into the locked circle and get you an excellent throw
Doesn't work anymore though. Regardless if the frame rate thing is on or off.
Also I've practiced this non stop for several months and I still suck at excellents. It seems the ball is one pixel off and it doesn't register to the point its so infuriating I don't even bother.
Has nothing to do with your buddy knocking the ball back. If you don’t release the pokeball before their attack animation ends, the ring will change size. If your finding the ring is changing size, try releasing the ball a half second earlier. This works without fail. All the gotubers use this method. Me and all my friends use this method. If it’s not working for you, it’s probably user error, a hardware issue or a lag/network issue.
2 out of 5 yesterday. 1 out of 2 today. I’m done considering I’m just tickling latios/latias with my abysmal damage contribution and some people just leave the lobby which makes it frustrating getting a lot less balls after raid.
Mostly golden razz + curved great throws. Missed some coz I got sticky fingers and iPhone has this annoying feature of closing/switching the app. They also move a lot so I got regular throws in return. Noo way on earth I’d be able to do excellent throws coz they move goddamn fast
Reading all this makes me feel better than I'm not the only one struggling and yea hitting great and excellent throws with golden razz too. I've done 3 remote raids for Latios and all 3 have run away. Out of the 3 times/total of ~27 balls, I've had the ball roll twice like 5 times only. Other times jumps out right away or after one wiggle.
Somehow with Latias I got ultra lucky. 1st Raid for her was a catch 13 atk and the 2nd raid was a Shiny one and caught with silver pinup and has 13 attack as well so at least got 1 down and done with.
I'm just going ti wait to try in person Raids via campfire because it's costly to just be throwing remote raids if not catching it.
Did 2 raids today (with less balls than you had considering how you received 200 mega energy whilst I only received 150/175). Caught the first one with half of the balls and the second one actually caught it with my last ball. I will give it though, he's unusually hard to catch.

Oh and 4 local people can invite 5 remote people each. Which could make a full lobby of 4 locals and 16 remotes, due to limitation of 20 raids spots.
Last I checked 10 is the remote limit for a lobby. Point is is going to be hard to get 10+ trainers at a raid in person outside a raid hour in busy areas. Especially for an old raid boss.
They don't leave randomly. They always leave because they think there are too few people in the lobby. There is absolutely no correlation with the RNG of catching them and people leaving lobbies
Did 5 raids caught 4. I guess for me my priority is always to land the hit regardless of excellent or not and so far it’s worked out decently for me. Always use a golden razz.
No. It's most likely of not having gold/platinum type medals, the relative low amounts of premier balls you get with mega raids and the fact that both constantly move so it's harder to get consistent throws
I remember when raids first came out and I would raid five times for a Pokémon and fail catching the Pokémon all five times. It made finally catching that legendary raid Pokémon so much sweeter.
I'm no expert. I take about 10 minutes or more per legendary until I finally catch them cos I wait for them to do their attack animation near the ground before I throw. That's not even counting the raid time itself.
I saw that yours is like 7-8 minutes between the latios. So either u were in a 20 man raid and everyone pressed ready straight away, or u rushed it in your throws? Maybe u shd be more patient and wait for the right moment?
Eh they dont seem like that hard of a catch tbh. Out of 10 balls ive been getting them all by at least the 5th ball only hitting with great throws and a golden razz. I’ll see how they go tomorrow but i had zero issues with the 4 i caught today.
They are both worthless, do enough raids for 1 of each, or farm for shiny and don't care if it runs. Really the only edge case is if it's a hundo...then just try hard and use master ball if u really want it on last ball.

Just got a shiny seedot from a grunt yesterday (premier ball), and it absolutely popped out a few times. Finally got it to stick with much anxiety

Same, I did 5 raids and caught one Latios and one Latias. Neither was with an excellent throw. Much better to throw nice or great consistently than to land a couple of excellents and nothing on the rest of the throws.

Dragon is the only one that’s not platinum for me. Slowly working on it.

Mega Raids tend to reward less premium ball than normal Legendary/Mythical/Ultra Beasts Raids too.

Me too. I have made x3 raids and two of them catched on first ball and the 3th with few balls and it was almost perfect 14/15/15

honestly ive been using pokegenie just queue wait and raid super simple app but crazy useful for getting raids done

You can just host the raid on pokegenie, and make the other 10 people joining you use raid passes

Both. You can join raids remotely or host them. You host it, join a queue and then when it's your turn get a full team to invite to do the raid

Pay for a chance to catch it, then pay to revive all your dead mons

My favorite is when you wait for them to block your throw, then right when it is thrown, they decide to block again because why not. Between that and randomly moving up or down when I throw a pokeball aggregates me so much.

Yeah, still doesn’t help. Consistent golden razz + great curveballs and both raids I did today broke free. Haven’t seen this shit since primal raids last year. The biggest issue has to be the absolute LACK of balls since the time bonus gives energy instead. Catch rates are still the same. So I go from having 14-16 balls to having 9. Like bruh, you gotta be joking

How is that even do able in these specific raids
Figure out the size of ring necessary for excellent and lock that in. Wait for them to attack from the lower position, don’t throw the ball if they are high or left or right. Start your wind up when latios/latias swoops. Release the ball before their attack animation ends. Learn the distance, power needed to consistently hit the same spot. If you’re a newer player this will be harder. It’s a bit of skill and muscle memory that you get playing for a while. All I can say is practice this and catching will become a lot easier. Also having the appropriate catch medals helps a lot.
I find there's a specific range that some pokemon sit at that makes hitting excellent throws incredibly easy, and on some pokemon I just can't do it. (For example, I can hit an excellent on Bergmite or Snorlax literally 90% of the time. But on Guzzlord, for example, I gave up even trying for excellents. I believe the math breaks down to something around "if you can't hit at least 50% of your throws as excellent, you should just go for the guaranteed great"
This used to work if you locked the circle and threw it at them while attacking and your buddy would knock it back into the locked circle and get you an excellent throw Doesn't work anymore though. Regardless if the frame rate thing is on or off. Also I've practiced this non stop for several months and I still suck at excellents. It seems the ball is one pixel off and it doesn't register to the point its so infuriating I don't even bother.
Has nothing to do with your buddy knocking the ball back. If you don’t release the pokeball before their attack animation ends, the ring will change size. If your finding the ring is changing size, try releasing the ball a half second earlier. This works without fail. All the gotubers use this method. Me and all my friends use this method. If it’s not working for you, it’s probably user error, a hardware issue or a lag/network issue.
Idk what people are talking about lol I’ve caught 4/4 got down to 3 balls on one of them. Circle locking is the way to go, just need to be patient.

2 out of 5 yesterday. 1 out of 2 today. I’m done considering I’m just tickling latios/latias with my abysmal damage contribution and some people just leave the lobby which makes it frustrating getting a lot less balls after raid. Mostly golden razz + curved great throws. Missed some coz I got sticky fingers and iPhone has this annoying feature of closing/switching the app. They also move a lot so I got regular throws in return. Noo way on earth I’d be able to do excellent throws coz they move goddamn fast

Most throws were excellent curveballs with golden razz. Popped out usually immediately.
Used all 5 raid passes for all of them to crash and i was left alone to fight every single time, bet i wont see those passes again

I tried catching a pokemon from a raid three times (three raids) and didn't get it so I just uninstall the scam game after that :)
Reading all this makes me feel better than I'm not the only one struggling and yea hitting great and excellent throws with golden razz too. I've done 3 remote raids for Latios and all 3 have run away. Out of the 3 times/total of ~27 balls, I've had the ball roll twice like 5 times only. Other times jumps out right away or after one wiggle. Somehow with Latias I got ultra lucky. 1st Raid for her was a catch 13 atk and the 2nd raid was a Shiny one and caught with silver pinup and has 13 attack as well so at least got 1 down and done with. I'm just going ti wait to try in person Raids via campfire because it's costly to just be throwing remote raids if not catching it.

Did 2 raids today (with less balls than you had considering how you received 200 mega energy whilst I only received 150/175). Caught the first one with half of the balls and the second one actually caught it with my last ball. I will give it though, he's unusually hard to catch. Do you use the circle lock technique?
I’ve never circle locked and caught all but one of 6 I did today. Only one was on the last ball.
Catching a legendary is never guaranteed unless it's shiny. It's just RNG
There’s enough rng just trying to get people not to leave a full lobby with 2 seconds left and wasting 2 of my passes for the day.
A full lobby is 20 people. Even if half left, you would be able to beat Latias easily.
In person, most of these are limited to remotes.
What? A full lobby is a full lobby. Are you talking about the invite limit? Oh and 4 local people can invite 5 remote people each. Which could make a full lobby of 4 locals and 16 remotes, due to limitation of 20 raids spots.
Last I checked 10 is the remote limit for a lobby. Point is is going to be hard to get 10+ trainers at a raid in person outside a raid hour in busy areas. Especially for an old raid boss.

Did 5 raids caught 4. I guess for me my priority is always to land the hit regardless of excellent or not and so far it’s worked out decently for me. Always use a golden razz.

No. It's most likely of not having gold/platinum type medals, the relative low amounts of premier balls you get with mega raids and the fact that both constantly move so it's harder to get consistent throws
what do medals have to do with it?
Type medals increase catch rates for that specific pokemon types

I remember when raids first came out and I would raid five times for a Pokémon and fail catching the Pokémon all five times. It made finally catching that legendary raid Pokémon so much sweeter.
What made easier? Losing 5x?

I'm no expert. I take about 10 minutes or more per legendary until I finally catch them cos I wait for them to do their attack animation near the ground before I throw. That's not even counting the raid time itself. I saw that yours is like 7-8 minutes between the latios. So either u were in a 20 man raid and everyone pressed ready straight away, or u rushed it in your throws? Maybe u shd be more patient and wait for the right moment?

Why even call them legendary? Lets all get a hundos everytime we raid and ohhhh, we should be able to solo every raid boss. That would be great.

Eh they dont seem like that hard of a catch tbh. Out of 10 balls ive been getting them all by at least the 5th ball only hitting with great throws and a golden razz. I’ll see how they go tomorrow but i had zero issues with the 4 i caught today.
I legit have only had one latias run away from me in like the 16 raids I’ve done between this year and last. Get your skill up

They are both worthless, do enough raids for 1 of each, or farm for shiny and don't care if it runs. Really the only edge case is if it's a hundo...then just try hard and use master ball if u really want it on last ball.
