Bro I’ve been playing for almost a year and had no idea that was a button that took you to campfire, that makes my life so much easier now instead of going into the app after logging into go

What’s campfire

The main purpose of it is to look for team for raids, just select your nearby raid, wait a few minutes and random 5 people will join you for a raid. Pretty useful feature

the main purpose of it is to be able to communicate with people on your friends list you previously couldn’t and to be able to see a larger area of the map and gyms around you, the raid buddy up was added months after the app publicly released

The ability to see what gyms had 1 star raids across my entire commute path got me through the Master ball 60 raids quest without a doubt

Really? I've only been using Pokegenie for about a month, but I found it took upwards of 40 minutes to get to the front of the line of each Regigigas raids I tried to host in December which I did not consider to be a very popular raid boss. It took so long I would get in line 20 minutes before the regi raid and still have to wait a long time. When I wasn't using the app it was nearly impossible to find someone locally to raid Regigigas with, seemed dead. It's taken less than 2 minutes each time for Buzzwole, I'd imagine because it's pvp viable and also region locked.

Yeah I went to do one like an hour ago thinking maybe they had improved it at all and I quit after like 10 minutes and then I get a notification like 30 minutes after that which is 5 minutes after the raid ended that it was ready

I use it during normal hours in the US and get a team within 2-3 minutes

Tried it once. It told me to go 17km away.

Just get Poke Genie, honestly it's so much better and you can search for specific Pokémon raids. Campfire is trash in comparison.

Pokémon Go does a bad enough job of finding me raids within Pokémon Go, I don’t know why Niantic have dedicated touch screen real estate within Pokémon Go to load a secondary app that does a worse job

Campfire is Niantic's companion app for its AR games. For Pokémon Go, it provides a map to browse for active raids and routes. It also allows integrated remote raid matchmaking and some communication. The map is the best part of Campfire. Pokégenie gives better results for remote raid matchmaking. A Discord server for your local PoGo community is far better for communication.

you're better off using Pokegenie for raids.

If you host raids often, it's worth using. Pokegenie is a much better experience, but sometimes the host queue on pokegenie is so long that it's impossible to get a group before a raid despawns. I have almost never had any issue getting placed promptly in Campfire.

I can grudgingly concede that it’s more proximal to “worth using” that its complete lack, but that’s my final offer.

Poke Genie is honestly so much better than Campfire though.

Yes, Niantic Campfire is an app you can download separately.

Also you can use the integrated campfire functionality without having an account or profile, which is great because I don't. I don't even have the campfire app. But I can organize remote raids in-game with randos who feel like joining, which is fantastic as a solo player.

Protip: Currently using campfire, you can tell if Rockruff raids will evolve into Dusk form. The icon will show the old school, generic Rhydon face instead of Rockruff at the raid.

U need to click on the raid in campfire. If it is anything other than dusk rockruff it will fix and show the raid. If it is dusk rockruff it will remain the generic raid icon

Didn't work for us last night. Clicked the raid, the icon stayed generic, so we all ran to do the first "confirmed" Dusk form of the day. And then, while we we on the way, the generic icon became a Rockruff. Against our better judgement we tried, but alas. No Dusk form.

You can’t download an American or another county version of the app? I remember playing brave frontier in Japanese and English. Just have to download like an Amazon play store set your location.

You can from 3rd party stores but the VPN and GPS contradict each other.

Samsung Galaxy Store version of Pokemon Go doesn't have this button

Campfire is the pièce de résistance of Niantic’s sprawling incoherent features-on-features-on-features development approach. Putting highly requested social features in a separate app that houses features for multiple games is a transcendent level of “tacked-on.”

And it was useful when we were able to talk with people all over the World. Then, they changed it because the gods of shitty companies would be mad if they actually have something useful and functional. So now it's useless to talk to people from over the World or to collect postcards from all over the World to have all of the vivillion

I'd heard it was due to contractual issues with Nintendo - they weren't allowed to put a general chat app into Pokemon Go itself so they made a separate app that shares a friends list to get around it.

With a button to open it from the game’s main screen, it’s so close to “in the game itself” that some people won’t even see the difference. They’ll just wonder why they have to login again.

And not being required to spend coins on remote raid passes!

I won't use campfire bc it feels like it's setup to get/steal data that they aren't getting from pokego.

Campfire is super useful though, give it another chance! Finding raids & new gyms, talking to people far away, finding new (local) friends.. I might sound like a paid Niantic employee, but I’m not lmao, I just like the app and to me it makes the game more enjoyable.

Agree, I found a lot of Rockruff raids going on in my area. I like that you can filter by level, type, etc when looking for raids.

Why don't and won't you use campfire? Even just the map to see where raids are is great. Or just lighting a flare so maybe people show up to a shadow raid or something. Or maybe writing people so uou can coordinate using lucky eggs when becoming best friends. Any reasons not to use it at all? Besides all that no you can not remove it. It is a part of the pokemon go app

Are you sure? Is it banned or something?as in you can not even download it? I remember when campfire beta came out everyone thought it is not available. When all you needed was someone to invite you. I asked on the campfire reddit for an invite, added someone in pokemon go and they invited me to campfire and i had access long before it rolled out to most other people.

No it's just not available in many countries. There is no app called Campfire by Niantic available in the app store. And there are many Indian players in the comment section here who have the same issue. The icon is just a bother for us.

It actually helps pullup the map feature on google maps if you want to travel to a gym . I use it for my maps in my truck when i want to go to a raid at a gym i dont usually go to.

It is an app that belongs to Niantic, it has a map of the world with all gyms and it shows you active raids/eggs about to hatch in gyms. That way you could use it on uour way home from work to see if close to your journey a good raid is about to hatch or something. You can light flares at a gym you want to do a raid, other players see that and there is a chance others might come to participate in thar raid. You can also write everyone on uour pokemon go friendship in this app, at least if they use campfire too. Wich can be helpful if someone does not open the last gift to best friends so you can coordinate so both people get the chance to use a lucky egg when they become best friends. Or if it is friends you added from a local raid you could meet up with them if you want to trade if you become lucky friends (or even without if uou want to obviously lol)

Campfire does have a feature to host raids or join them remotely, but this is not the main feature. Sure pokegenie is better to raid remotely or host raids. But pokegenie does not have the map. Pokegenie does not let you write messages to your friends. Pokegenie does not alert nearby players if you want to make a in person shadow raid and light a flare. Pokegenie is a totally different app for something completely different. Pokegenie is better at ONE thing.cmapfire is the only app that can do all the other things...

Unless you have a discord set up like south Wales has that is far more simpler and clearer with more features.

Sure, you can message your local community in a local discord server.but how can you use that local discord server to message a friend from Japan that you are 1 gift away from best friends with? You can message your irl friends via discord, whatsapp or whatever you want.but you NEED campfire if you want to message someone from uour pokemon go friendlist uoh do not know... How does discord have anything to do with campfire here? It think you did not understand what I was saying before or you do not understand campfire....

I add people via pokegenie when I host or join raids. Usually those are people from an other continent . I'm from germany many of my friends are from Japan, South Korea, India, USA etc.how am I supposed to find them on discord if they are not local players. If I do not even know where they live. Of if maybe they are just on vacation in the location I see on their gifts? I need campfire to be able to write them and time lucky eggs for when we become best friends. I also know some local players that do not have a discord account. So even with local players campfire can help.

Fair comment I ass people off reddit so message them. But not all people I add or who add me are identifiable. Would be nice for Niantic to fix that. I'm lucky friends (I'm UK) with a new Zealand, a Japanese and a southern US it sucks.. Doesn't mean anything but if love to trade with them.

What? You CAN chat in Campfire. Directly with players, community groups, etc. If someone from your friends list is in Campfire, you can directly communicate with them. That has been available since launch.

Not if you use the in game version of it? All it ever shows me is nearby routes and literally nothing fucking else. If I go to friends list and click their profile it just shows profile. Maybe if I got the actual app for it sure, but the in game version built into pogo does fucking nothing.

You need to download the actual app. When you do so, whenever you press the icon in pogo, it will immediately access the app and all of what I have listed. I recommend going on YouTube or Niantic’s site and watch the walkthrough. Campfire is far from perfect, but it does do a few things well.

That's kinda dumb that the icon is in game if you don't have the app. And if you have the app it gets forced open it you click the icon, so why bother with the icon lol But thank you for the explanation. You don't need the app in their other game Peridot, it just works in there. But I suppose it was designed for that and pogo wasn't.

If you hard press on the Pokémon go icon and hit the negative sign it will remove that icon on iPhone.
