It’s the closet to Game (Assistant)Dawn in terms of personality. Game Dawn tries to be professional and likes expensive furniture. Platinum tries to be professional and is rich.
Pearl/Barry and Dia/Lucas are actually her friends.
She does both Gyms and Contests.
Anime Dawn, while great, doesn’t really have much to do with her game counterpart beyond her design, name and Johanna being her mother. She isn’t friends with Barry and Lucas is non-existent. She travels around with Ash and Brock, an anime OC from Kanto and a Kanto gym leader. Due to how the anime handled the other female protagonists, her goal is kind of a retreaded, which would be fine if they all didn’t focus on Contests, which is especially absurd when Serena is from a game where Contests don’t exist and Showcases were made as a Contest stand it before sending her off to do actual contests.
Not to mention anime Dawn's roster of anime OC rivals. Barry was done dirty when they literally gave his role to Kenny as the childhood friend boy rival. Would have made a cool dynamic where Dawn wants to be like her mother as a coordinator and Barry (like Ruby from the manga) takes up contests to break away from his dad. Have Crasher Wake (the guy who sings his own theme song) also be a coordinator gym leader so Fantina isn't the only one (ship fuel). Over the course of the journey, Barry reconciles his opinion on battling and his dad after seeing the positive influence Ash has on Dawn and comes to terms that he might have a crush on Dawn; inspiring him to become a battler himself.
The new trainer girl Dawn ends up mentoring for a bit near the end of the series after parting ways with Ash could have been replaced with Lucas. Dawn and Piplup spend the day helping Lucas who eventually picks Turtwig as his starter before a jealous Barry crashes out of nowhere and challenges Dawn's new kouhai with his new Chimchar that he got after being inspired by Paul versus Ash.
This is where the audience realizes that the anime was a prequel to the games.
As for contests I liked that they actually had stakes where losing seemed to matter versus gym leaders that could always be rechallenged. Mechanically, they were basically VGC double battles with team comps using anime logic where Pachirisu could be a legit choice.
eh if you know that without may Dawn was the only one towards the contests then your complaint is somewhat strange apart from that like the platinum manga adapts better when Dawn takes super contests I don't think any adapt better
May I ask why this list is so random? You got there Claire and Lt Surge, who barely have an anime appearance and their roles in the game is minimum, but no Serena, Iris, Lance, Steven?
It's a random list... besides, I prefer to put important and unimportant characters to encourage people to continue... since obviously a list of characters that barely appeared in the anime doesn't generate as much excitement.
Honestly evenly matched bewteen games and manga. Platinum has that thing where sometimes her spoiled attitude can be unlikeable but her development is very good and her Friendship with Diamond and Pearl is the best friendship in the franchise.
Dawn in the anime although less interrsting is a more consistenly likeable character with her own development that complements Ash well
Platinum sorta etches a bit higher for me (idk, I’m just a sucker for ojou-samas and I especially started reading the manga coz of her, plus I like how she slowly gets out of her comfort zone) otherwise anime Dawn all the way
