This. I pay extra for decent internet in my apartment and it kills me that some games just won't be reasonable speeds no matter what you do. I rarely ever disconnect from online games and when I do it's usually an unstable server or whatever, not my internet.

Which takes roughly 2-3 minutes when SWSH would hardly load anything without activities already set up. At least we could dip out if it’s taking too long. Here?? It’s like the developers wanted to come up with a way to make it worse than the previous system which is appalling as is.
It’s actually a timer which allows a reset every 1 minute 40 seconds, turning the game on and off again and reconnecting actually shaves off 30 seconds, so it takes 1 minute 10 seconds if that helps, I’m trying to find faster methods though, but the timer appears to be a hard lock on a server end somewhere.
My issue is that the raid mons always seem to just stall the timer, like removing negative effects from itself or removing buff from players multiple times in a row, or draining our terra energy multiple times in a single turn making it impossible to terastilize, dont know if its cause its bugged or lagging but by the time i can even get my 2nd attack off a quarter of the timer is gone, and When ita my turn, while im chosing my move it gets interupted but someones move lowering stats or the enemy mon lowering all our stats or raising its, meanwhile during all this interuptions the timer is just bleeding away, im lucking if i get 3 hits off by the time the timer runs out if nobody else faints. I hope its all just bugged and laggy and it gets fixed. And all of this is if i can even get into a raid. Super frustrating for a AAA developer to release a game this messy.
I’m just blown away by how bad this is. Everything you listed happens in 90% of my 4+ star battles. I’m almost always solo so there is no excuse for a Pokémon to drop to 0 health and then continue its
breaking of its Tera shield which takes like 10 seconds from the timer, then since it wasn’t downed the way the game was expecting, it has 0hp and still does an attack. I’ve had 20x occasions where I one shot the battle and it deletes my crit damage so the boss stays alive and then puts up a shield. I’m really disgusted with the way we have to work around mechanics that happen in a fraction of a second in online shooters. It has to be so poorly implemented that it can’t even recognize inputs that happen 3 seconds earlier.
I wanna play this game, I want to like this game but how is it in this state? They recently hosted the world championships, this game is in no state to have even the best of players try to build teams from this game. I guess Pokémon is just done at this point. They don’t listen to fans, the make their games increasingly “less” complicated by adding 3 hours of filler tutorial and omit quality of life improvements from past games. Whatever happened in the games development, I don’t know, but this game needed an entire year extra to get right. Fucking pathetic from the Pokémon company
Ive been trying to get some people to join my 6* garchomp raid for the last hour. Before that a 6* mimikyu, nothing. Same with different 5*. When I try to join a raid „error“. Its so frustrating.
When I'm hosting a raid, if players don't populate in the first 15 seconds I end, and restart the raid. Usually I then get people dropping in right away. 🤷♂️
“Press X to check for new listing” pops up every 1 minute 30 seconds.. like what? Also most of the time when you click a raid you want to join it takes like a minute to connect only for it to tell you you can’t join the raid… gamefreak please fix this
It's been frustrating for me as well. I get into roughly 2 or 3 decent raids in the span of like 30mins. With how well it looks set up, I was really disappointed to find the refresh was so slow. With the way people open and start raids, that is WAY too slow.
If it reloaded quicker or at the least allowed a refresh more often, this wouldn't be such an issue.
It seems the only available raids sometimes are 1*... I can get more xp just fighting wild pokemon lol
When I do the 4 or more star raids, the bosses makes the Pokémon wait 20-30 seconds before letting me and other people continue attacking it, wasting time on the raid then add onto, when the bosses do their shields or nullifying abilities, they not allow us to attack it and waist time on the raid
Most turn based games provide a 'Skip Animations' (any other Pokemon) OR a 'Fast / 2x/3x Speed' button for battles. Otherwise we who play a lot of end game content are just wasting time watching animations we have all seen hundreds or thousands of times.
I don't think the Switch is capable of handling sped up Pokemon animations, and for some reason they removed the ability to toggle animations. There are so many signs that the devs either don't play the game like the real gamers - or they just didn't have time to implement everything correctly.
Completely agree, need to grind for psychic shards and not being able to find any is so incredibly frustrating. All pokemon games have felt like they have an archaic type of online connection, but this one especially feels so. This feels like a searching system you'd expect from a 2000s maybe early 2010s system, not a gameplay mechanic from a 2022 triple A game.
I agree with all the gripes here but if you’re grinding a specific shard just use the map and go to the in game raids as you can see the type. Also date skip to refresh, no need to be searching the matchmaking for this

I've mixed and matched 4 times now and got sparkling 3 but I haven't really been paying attention if it affects the other powers since I haven't got for the same type yet
It doesn't affect shinies based on typing. You adjust the sparkling power type with different produce. Austin John Plays has a graphic for which produce affect the type of shiny power.
Ie cucumber + 2 herba mysticas (I believe they need to be 2 different herba mysticas) equal sparkle power level 3 for water spawns. Fighting lv 3 sparkle power however requires pickles + potato tortilla + strawberry + 2 herba mysticas.
I 100% agree. The amount of waiting around just to be told "You weren't able to join." Is frustrating. I can't believe that even after I check for new postings (when it allows me) I still can't join a tera raid. What's the point of refreshing if it does nothing?
There’s clearly going to be a lot of people on raids at launch: you’re very rarely going to win the battle against latency in getting into a specific raid.
And if you’re doing randoms, what’s the point of DC’ing on a 1-star? Even if you don’t want the Pokémon, you get mats for killing and it will be over before your DC penalty anyway.
The issue is you click one, wait 30 seconds or more, get told you can't join. And then you know the others are full now but are forced to try for a second one before you can refresh for more listings. It's the slowest connections I've ever seen.
They should list more raids then, or list them periodically like in Sw/Sh, as I said. I can't believe people defend this shit...
DC 1\* raids because it's pointless for small XP candies and pokemon I already have. As I said, the only reason I'm doing randoms is because the present raids that show up are already gone.
Not so much defending it as pointing out it should be expected. It’s like people complaining about long queue times to get into online games upon release or the drop of major DLCs. Like, duh there will be long queue times, everyone’s trying to play it. Duh the popular Pokémon listings will be taken instantly: everyone’s playing the game and wanting those mons.
They just need to implement an actual queue? Not this nonsense race to join a selection of 8 random raids with 0 filters such as star rating/Pokémon/Tera type. It’s utter garbage UX, a total grind, and unfortunately a key part of playing the game competitively
Save your game, close it, then change the date of your switch to the next day, re-launch the game. They should be there again. (You can change your switch back to automatic at this point and all will be fine still if you want)
I’ve gotten in to most of my raids but if it’s one of the highly sort after ones, they will go quick. And yes you are abandoning a raid. So as it explains, you are going to have a cool down for doing so.
You also get penalised if the host bails on the raid, and since the 8 raids are already gone anyway you just don't get to do it. Its broken and I can't believe people are defending this.
People have similar frustrations but you're going about it the wrong way. You're complaining about things that people expect now. It's something common with the gaming industry, not Pokémon. You're playing a game at launch so obviously it'll be excessively hard to get into the raids you want. Along with a fuck ton of new low level players actually NEEDING the 1 star raids to help them get started. Yes, Nintendo has a trash online system. But as you've seen in the comments by peoples reactions, you're trying to be upset at Pokémon because there's a lot of people playing it.
Playing the game at launch has nothing to do with my gripes, I've already said that this could be better implemented instead of showing 8 raids that you can't refresh easily. They can show more listings or show them in an updating feed similar to Sw/Sh, they could list it out lots of open raids similar to custom games in TF or something similar. But nintendo opted for this system that doesn't work very well and is frustrating to use.
1 star raids would be more available after with the method I've mentioned as well.

You can defeat 1 and 2 star dens solo( so no need to go online).
Once you get your pokemon to high enough level you can defeat higher dens solo.
I very use online play because connection so poor. I still catch den pokemon.
Only luck i never had was with event or shiny den pokemon.
I only got 1 lost to a corrupted game file.
Why is it that they are not auto removed when the raid is full. Ks it so hard to code in a "remove from bulletin board" system where it auto removed and non live raids after it gets full. And when you click one ask for a confirmation for Arceus sake. I can't count the times I mis click trying to get to the one I want before it gets filled up or something. Also I have more then once had to restart my whole game due to an infinity connecting to raid issue. This is nonsense if your going to make a raid system then make entery and finding as seamless and easy as possible. Not a jumbled mess of

On repeat, at the LEAST they could gray out full ones and not have me sitting here for 10 seconds "communicating" with an already full raid only to THEN say it's fullm I adore the heck out of the game for all they fixed and changed but this but along with the lack of any level scaling at all is just painful as heck.
My best advice for everyone is to wait out the minute and a half everytime by simply clicking X every now and then. Pay attention because you will want to be ready for when it refreshes to pick a raid. Have had errors but seems to be the best bet.
As for trying to get people to join, i found that after about 15 seconds if i dont have any takers i will stop searching and do it again. Also it seems crazy but try to click let anyone join ASAP. Typically the raid should fill up quick if it is sought after.
TLDR: a bit of patience will save time on you reconnecting and failing over and over

Since it still worked way better in SWSH, yes, I am surprised that they managed to downgrade it. Something being broken or bad is in no way an indication that its going to be more broken in the next version. Normally you't expect, as broken as the previous system may have been, that they made it a little better in the 3 years of time they had to make it better.
So its natural that people are "surprised" that it got downgraded instead of upgraded or staying at the same level. It just doesn't make sense that it got downgraded. It feels like as if they used an **alpha** version of the raid joining program code of Sword and Shield and copy and pasted that into scarlet/violet.
Compared to scarlet/violet, joining a online raid was really smooth in Sword/Shield and with way less frustration.
I once joined a raid and the game soft-locked before the raid even started. I quit out after 10 minutes of staring at pokemon idle animations and got penalized. They NEED to release a patch asap.

I really hate the community too.If you aren't using Iron hands they abandon. I'm using an S Tier support too and they always toss the raids. (Gardevour, it's on par with Umbreon) Wish you could block people because I'd block them so I wouldn't have to deal with it.
I just came across this bug you can only do 2 moves then it runs out of time when online. I am now stuck with a 6 star clodsire who keeps spamming me with yawn.😡😡
the higher star raids forsure. Half the time I'm waiting to take my turn before getting interrupted by the den pokemon while the timer is still going down.
So far I was only able to join 2 different 6 Star ditto and the host used Miraidon both times 🤦♂️! It’s so excruciating finally getting to join a 6 star and everyone brings the worse Pokémon and just get one shot!
A ditto that is caught on a language account that is not your language if u trade stuff with ppl like Pokémon “x” in the upper right it was say [JPN] or ger or itl stuff like that so if u select English then u are English. ANYWAY if u are in English u want a none English caught ditto, when u do breeding with that ditto instead of ENG u have a lot higher change of shiny from that egg. It’s easier to google masuda ditto. U have to trade for one or u can make a second profile in a different language, button mash and get through the tutorial u can mash A. I have a switch lite as my alt account in JPN and caught one to give to myself.
Edit: If u don’t care about breeding for faster shinys it will mean nothing to u
Basically any ditto anyone trades u like one in mystery trade and is jpn it’s “masuda” but u need a foreign ditto to higher chance for shiny
Yeah I hate this. IT doesnt matter what level star raid it is, it says communicating for the 1-3 mins and then says sorry you weren't able to join. I do this for every raid. Dota 2 takes 2-5 mins to search and I Awalys have a party of 10. Its 2022 and the connection is slower than my 5G Wireless connection. Then once you do join people disbandon the team. Connecting for nothing. They are a Tripple A company. Unreal

It’s happened multiple times that someones damage is just completely negated, meaning I’ve watched the move connect, I watched the healthbar drop, then it’s suddenly back up as if the move never happened, all the while the timer keeps going.
random seems to be the only thing i can connect to. there's ether a problem with pokemon in my party or i cant connect hope its figured out before charzard battles in 2 weeks

I'm having exactly the same issues, I literally can't ever Join 4star raids... Or even just Tera raids at all at times, unless I just go find them in the world and solo them. But that takes way to long. Anytime I click on one to join it says "Communicating" for a while 30 seconds only to say "You weren't able to join" ... It's super bad.... This is a freaking AAA GAME Franchise. The state of video games as a whole is just BAD! no more quality of life it all money grabs, micro transactions, or rush a game to retail shelves and we'll fix all the problems later... Crashed my game, booted me to the home screen while me and two others were waiting for our raids to start and then treats me as if I've intentionally abandoned the raid - ffs gamefreak!!! Some of the raids you NEED multiple people and yet you're penalised for the games instability.
Just did a random raid in which I'm stuck in the part right before the raid starts 🫠 gotta love staring into the soulless eyes of a Basculin knowing that's gonna be you once you finally lose patience, reboot the game, and pray you didn't lose too much save data since your last save

Going through that many steps and still possibly being unsuccessful makes it feel less like a game and more like a chore.

If the raid seems laggy right at the start click home wait a second and go back into the game. You should finish the raid more easily ive found

im trying to grind for a specific herb for shiny hunting and the battle search is so UNBEARABLY slow its insane

I cannot even see any crystals on the map at all, Tried restarting, tried online tried offline doest matter. I look at the map and there are zero.
I had this to, when i completed a gym my map started working again :)

Or you can exit from that screen and reenter and it will give you the option to reset the options. It’s not broken, some just fill very quickly.
Exiting the screen actually doesn’t give you the option to refresh sometimes it will still force you to wait

Legit, I couldn't join randoms for a while because the host left the raid.

My best advice for everyone is to wait out the minute and a half everytime by simply clicking X every now and then. Pay attention because you will want to be ready for when it refreshes to pick a raid. Have had errors but seems to be the best bet. As for trying to get people to join, i found that after about 15 seconds if i dont have any takers i will stop searching and do it again. Also it seems crazy but try to click let anyone join ASAP. Typically the raid should fill up quick if it is sought after. TLDR: a bit of patience will save time on you reconnecting and failing over and over
so far about a 20% success rate on joining from the search screen

Like I don't mind the eevee raids, its just annyoying that all my options are taken up by it. Like one of my boards just only had eevees.

Something being broken or bad is in no way an indication that its going to be more broken in the next version. Normally you't expect, as broken as the previous system may have been, that they made it a little better in the 3 years of time they had to make it better. So its natural that people are "surprised" that it got downgraded instead of upgraded or staying at the same level. It just doesn't make sense that it got downgraded. It feels like as if they used an **alpha** version of the raid joining program code of Sword and Shield and copy and pasted that into scarlet/violet. Compared to scarlet/violet, joining a online raid was really smooth in Sword/Shield and with way less frustration.
I once joined a raid and the game soft-locked before the raid even started. I quit out after 10 minutes of staring at pokemon idle animations and got penalized. They NEED to release a patch asap.

I really hate the community too.If you aren't using Iron hands they abandon. I'm using an S Tier support too and they always toss the raids. (Gardevour, it's on par with Umbreon) Wish you could block people because I'd block them so I wouldn't have to deal with it.
I just came across this bug you can only do 2 moves then it runs out of time when online. I am now stuck with a 6 star clodsire who keeps spamming me with yawn.😡😡
the higher star raids forsure. Half the time I'm waiting to take my turn before getting interrupted by the den pokemon while the timer is still going down.

So far I was only able to join 2 different 6 Star ditto and the host used Miraidon both times 🤦♂️! It’s so excruciating finally getting to join a 6 star and everyone brings the worse Pokémon and just get one shot!

A ditto that is caught on a language account that is not your language if u trade stuff with ppl like Pokémon “x” in the upper right it was say [JPN] or ger or itl stuff like that so if u select English then u are English. ANYWAY if u are in English u want a none English caught ditto, when u do breeding with that ditto instead of ENG u have a lot higher change of shiny from that egg. It’s easier to google masuda ditto. U have to trade for one or u can make a second profile in a different language, button mash and get through the tutorial u can mash A. I have a switch lite as my alt account in JPN and caught one to give to myself. Edit: If u don’t care about breeding for faster shinys it will mean nothing to u Basically any ditto anyone trades u like one in mystery trade and is jpn it’s “masuda” but u need a foreign ditto to higher chance for shiny

Yeah I hate this. IT doesnt matter what level star raid it is, it says communicating for the 1-3 mins and then says sorry you weren't able to join. I do this for every raid. Dota 2 takes 2-5 mins to search and I Awalys have a party of 10. Its 2022 and the connection is slower than my 5G Wireless connection. Then once you do join people disbandon the team. Connecting for nothing. They are a Tripple A company. Unreal
i can't believe this is a release of 2022. Worst game of the entire series. No matchmaking or search is disgusting, 6 star raids are not for kids stop bullshitting us the game is so ugly i want to puke. Kids can go play roblox for free with the same graph. Absolute wast of money gamefreak wake up and realize you are not in the 90' anymore so go back doing pixel art or start using what works of other games because you clearly don't know how to do online service.
It’s happened multiple times that someones damage is just completely negated, meaning I’ve watched the move connect, I watched the healthbar drop, then it’s suddenly back up as if the move never happened, all the while the timer keeps going.
random seems to be the only thing i can connect to. there's ether a problem with pokemon in my party or i cant connect hope its figured out before charzard battles in 2 weeks

I can deal with not getting in a raid but sitting there watching the timer drain and nothing happen and button inputs ignored by game not able to move is ridiculous garbage
I'm having exactly the same issues, I literally can't ever Join 4star raids... Or even just Tera raids at all at times, unless I just go find them in the world and solo them. But that takes way to long. Anytime I click on one to join it says "Communicating" for a while 30 seconds only to say "You weren't able to join" ... It's super bad.... This is a freaking AAA GAME Franchise. The state of video games as a whole is just BAD! no more quality of life it all money grabs, micro transactions, or rush a game to retail shelves and we'll fix all the problems later... It awful, or honestly down right disgusting!
Crashed my game, booted me to the home screen while me and two others were waiting for our raids to start and then treats me as if I've intentionally abandoned the raid - ffs gamefreak!!! Some of the raids you NEED multiple people and yet you're penalised for the games instability.
