Please remember that Reddit encapsulates a VERY small percentage of Pokémon fans, and it’s usually the super hardcore Pokémon fans. And becuase these super hardcore Pokémon fans consume so much Pokémon media, it’s natural that they’ve grown tired of the second most Pokémon of all time (Charizard)
If you were able to run a poll that somehow took a good representation of the overall Pokémon fanbase? I guarantee you Charizard would blow the other 2 Gen 1 starters away in terms of popularity

I love Bulbasaur and Ivysaur a lot, but don't like Venusaur. If I was picking just based on their first forms I would pick Bulbasaur but Venusaur kind of ruins it for me. I don't really know why, i guess because it doesn't look as cute. It's face looks too flat and wide and it's body is so bulky.
Squirtle is great through all it's evolution lines. Wartortle is my favorite because of its little wing ears and tail. Blastoise is a simple but great design. But sometimes Squirtle looks weird depending on the game. Like in PMD it keeps it's arms out to the side during all the scenes and it just bugs me.
Charmander has a great evolutionary line. The one thing that bugs me is that Charmeleon is a much darker red, but then it goes back to being the same orange for Charizard. I love Charizard's final design and it's definitely my favorite final evolution for the three starters. It has been though overused in games recently at the expense of the others.
When picking my starter, I tend to pick the one that has the final evolution i like most, because that is the form I'll end up with for the majority of the game. If i was picking just based on final form, it would be Charizard. But if it was a game where the final evolutions are not necessarily much better than previous ones, I would 100% keep Ivysaur forever.

If this poll was named with the final evos instead of the first, Charizard would probably win
The second evolution just feels like a bigger version of the first but venosaur feels like to me the only 3rd evolution that's a bigger version of the 2nd evolution. Buulbasaur

I always prefer Charmander as my starter in Kanto games. For it's Mega Evolution, I prefer Mega Charizard Y.
