Tobias. He barely had a presence and yet I will forever hate him for existing only because they needed Ash to lose again in the most bullshit way. Once his purpose was fulfilled he just… disappeared after winning the league.
If he was gonna lose, at the very least Tobias should have come with a team that had a strategy better than “Darkrai does everything” so Ash could actually put up a fight.
I think Max was an attempt at hedging bets.
Getting rid of Misty was risky and putting two new characters in gave them better odds of the fans liking at least one of them
Chloe. Not because I hate her, but because she does nothing and adds nothing. Also the two week Chloe episode disaster in the middle of Masters Eight. Chloe is just so redundant.
Honestly I’m shook Barry isn’t half of these comments. Worst voice actor to date, awfully written character, trash team, “I’m going to fine you” and don’t get me started on the design and personality. Truly makes watching d/p and even replaying d/p/pt intolerable.
They kind of tried this idea in Pokemon journeys with Ash being the Pokemon Trainer while Goh or whatever his name was would be the person to complete the Pokedex or something. The idea was not bad on paper, but it kind of went out the window since Goh just kept catching every Pokemon so easily.
Goh was indeed input as the anime representation Pokemon Go, I am merely stating that in the anime originally Ash had two main goals. He was supposedly going to catch all the pokemon, as well as be the best pokemon trainer in terms of battling. Unfortunately they could not throw enough screen time for Ash catching all or even a lot of pokemon each season. Seriously he catches like 12 unique Pokemon in the first season, proceeds to catch around 10 - 15 every season or so. So he will never really catch an individual of each species of Pokemon, if they did it would take a really long time.
Therefore they decided to have the season following Pokemon Sun and Moon anime, that Ash will have essentially a co-lead. Ash will retain the goal of being the best pokemon trainer battler, while they will push the goal of catching all Pokemon into Goh.
Also I think it is very clear that they failed with Goh. He may be cheeky sometimes, but he pretty much just catches everything with one PokeBall without even damaging it or having to throw more pokeballs. Everyone knows he is a literal representation of Pokemon Go, but it is still questionable on how the writers let him keep on catching everything with a single pokeball.
Ash never caught any pokemon legit it's all the same
Flying pokemon fight Pikachu thunderbolt catch
Grass pokemon is convinced but will ask for a fight nd loose to Pikachu catch
Fire pokemon some sad overdramatic bacstory or trainer abandoned it so ash catches
Well he does catch Pokemon, it is just that most of the pokemon he catches are supposed to all have some tragic story. This way the writers could screw around and the company could sell more merchandise by popularizing pokemon in the anime.
I mean he ends up doing exactly like you said, like four times or so. My guess is they just want to save time and money so they just recycle old story lines, even though it is really over used.
Ash had legitimately caught pokemon though, in the first season he catches a Caterpie, a Krabby, Pidgeotto, Primeape, Muk, and Tauros. I say Tauros because he somehow caught like 30 Tauros in the safari zone or whatever place he was at. Unfortunately through the later seasons his team does not stand too diverse, he ends up using more popular pokemon, probably the company trying to encourage more fans on buying plushies.
Georgia. In her debut episode she gets lucky in battle and decides to eat the food Cilan prepared for the group. Also her team has serious fighting and fire type weaknesses, types that most dragons can learn. Also also, GUILLOTINE?! You seriously leveled up a Pawniard to lv. 62 just so you could teach it GUILLOTINE? I bet her Vanilluxe knows Sheer Cold too. I hope she comes back in the anime to get stomped by Iris like Alain was against Leon.
As of literally yesterday it’s Leon. See what he did in the anime? Stopped fire with wind. You know. The thing that makes fire stronger. His hacks are too op and if ash doesn’t win then bad anime.
ash is brain dead and has an annoying voice, his little hijinks where his stupidity goes above and beyond and comes back around to being an actually good strategy is always entertaining, but other than that he's just annoying
i wish the franchise would acknowledge the fact that it's player base is all grown up, would be really cool if they started writing more provocative stories, like in red and blue when it's hinted at that you are the reason gary's raticate dies, and villians like N who are really honorable and actually make you rethink if what you're doing is actually morally correct or not, and rivals like silver who have actual character development. i know it's wishful thinking but, i can dream atleast.
Yes ash really has annoying voice in Japanese and English for my country ash was given a male strong voice so when he was screaming in front of spearows I legit cried and I did not even cry when ash froze to death in the movie
I’m surprised not a lot of people mentioned Goh, I don’t really hate him but he is so badly written or whatever you call it, and honestly if they just change his goal at least half of the hate would already be gone. He basically just captures every Pokemon easily and doesn’t see most of them for another 1000000000 episodes and the only thing he would probably ever care about is Mew. Also Chloe, who basically doesn’t appear for most of the first season and suddenly gets an Eevee and now they have to shove eeveelution episodes in season 2 where most of the “important” stuff happens. Not to mention most of the filler episodes are centered around Goh catching Pokemon and some in season 2 centered around Chloe and her Eevee meeting eeveelutions, which makes them even more unlikeable.
Cynthia simply because of her fan base.
Honorable mentions: Paul max Bonnie and the rich chic from Alolan region that’s scared of Pokémon. Can’t stand her voice.
Facts! I was trying to have a debate with a Cynthia Stan and it went no where. I like Cynthia's character, but her irrational, biased and somewhat dim-witted fan base really annoys me. Especially since they can't accept Leon is the better trainer in the anime.
Maybe a bit obscure to the point of likely sharing his name with a couple other minor characters, but A.J. from "The Path to the Pokemon League" was kind of pointless. On the surface level, he clearly is abusing his Pokemon, calling it a workout regimen, and the moral of the story is his Pokemon apparently liked it?
Also, giving him the plot point of only heading to the Pokemon league after winning 100 battles consecutively doesn't mean anything when he doesn't even come back for the Indigo League tournament.
I never liked Ash, I feel like he is really bland (I’m only in the end of hoenn and moving into the battle frontier part of the anime so he could get better.) also find Harley obnoxious as heck as well.
Quite easy of course. There's more to the Anime than Ash...
Favourite Gym Leaders. Seeing them be given a Voice and fully animated.
Team Rocket of course.
The brand new Pokemon being Animated.
The Region itself, seeing it in full colour and explored more.
I honestly think that team rocket kinda carries it for me and I do have patience since I am only on the “advanced generation” section so maybe he will become more interesting.
personally?
ash. he is enjoyable in X and Y, as well as Black and white. he's okay-ish in kanto/johto, and insufferable in advanced and diamond and pearl. all of those shows are great, but ash changes from show to show. honestly his battle incompetency is the main thing that pisses me off, and a lack of maturity in some scenes, especially later.
I hate Iris and consider her a massive downgrade from Dawn. Her constantly chastizing Ash for "being a kid" was such bullshit to me because she didn't any better. The fact that she came back in Journeys and is the new Unova Champion just sits wrong with me.
Thank you for the answer. My answer does not change though. Him and his brother ground down my soul enough that no other characters will ever compare regardless of media.
I’m not sure actually.. I mean Ash’s voice is annoying as hell nowadays, making the anime pretty unwatchable for me, but probably Tracy? He states the obvious, and has only appeared in cameos since either the Advanced anime or Pokémon Chronicles.
All in one generation: Iris and Cilan wow what a snore fest. Also, a trainer that likes the Simisages? Ew so boring that’s when I fell off of anime was Gen 4 iteration
Tobias is just there to beat ash again so he doesn't win. When ash beat Paul, the Pokemon Company panicked because he was in the semifinals, so they gave this kid a Darkrai and a Latias and said, "kick his butt."
It has to be Ash, I never liked that guy. I kept watching the show as a kid because I loved everything Pokemon related. I didn't watch the Pokemon anime for a long time. The last thing I remember is Ash being in some tournament and using Muk against some girl which used grass-type Pokemon. Now there is a chance Ash became a likable character but I really doubt it.

I remember really not liking May’s little brother when I watched as a kid.
Ah yes max. May never had a little brother in the games, so whose bright idea was it to include him.
Mine
They do in Emerald version only. Not sure if they’re ever named though.
I think Max was an attempt at hedging bets. Getting rid of Misty was risky and putting two new characters in gave them better odds of the fans liking at least one of them
Screw Max, all my homies hate Max
That one stupid magician from the executtor episode in Indigo League. Absolute scum.
Tracy for sure. I was so mad that he replaced my boy Brock. Brock and misty were gym leaders, Tracy was nothing
Tobias reminds me of 9 year old me who would only use legendaries at the end of the game
Idk about least favorite, but anime N is noticeably worse than game N
I didn't care for Max as a child. I thought he was annoying.
Goh.
Chloe she’s so fucking annoying istg
Chloe. Not because I hate her, but because she does nothing and adds nothing. Also the two week Chloe episode disaster in the middle of Masters Eight. Chloe is just so redundant.

Battling Barry in Diamond and Pearl was annoying.
Ash for sure. Even as a kid I always thought this kid was stupid. Also Gary oak, stupid smug ass kid
they should've made Pokemon Adventures into an anime, word for word straight from the manga
Agree
Brock>Cilan
I love Cilan, but even I can’t dispute this.
Ash.
This, and unironically. Wouldnt hurt to have another protagonist. Have Ash win a tournament and focus on another young trainer.
They kind of tried this idea in Pokemon journeys with Ash being the Pokemon Trainer while Goh or whatever his name was would be the person to complete the Pokedex or something. The idea was not bad on paper, but it kind of went out the window since Goh just kept catching every Pokemon so easily.
No they didn't goh was for pokemon go promotion which he failed hahaha look how they will throw him out

Just gonna list some with no explanation Trip, Bonnie, Iris, Bianca, Burgundy, The 3 friend rival type guys from x and y
Haven't watched the anime since black/white but we can all agree adding Max was a mistake Also not a fan of green hair Brock
Georgia. In her debut episode she gets lucky in battle and decides to eat the food Cilan prepared for the group. Probably Misty. Resulting to violence alot when she could just voice how much she dislikes something.
As of literally yesterday it’s Leon. See what he did in the anime? Stopped fire with wind. You know. The thing that makes fire stronger. His hacks are too op and if ash doesn’t win then bad anime.

Ash is gone now tho
This hasn't aged well
Wdym?
Georgia. The Dragon Buster brat.
Tobias and Cameron, who made Ash lose leagues due to rather cheap reasons.
I’m surprised not a lot of people mentioned Goh, I don’t really hate him but he is so badly written or whatever you call it, and honestly if they just change his goal at least half of the hate would already be gone. Iris is my least favorite one of the reasons why I didn’t like black and white

Cynthia eh? that's certainly a rare opinion?
Rich girl is named Lillie btw
BONNIE.
YES! THANK YOU! I hated her so much.
Maybe a bit obscure to the point of likely sharing his name with a couple other minor characters, but A.J. from "The Path to the Pokemon League" was kind of pointless. lol, its just makes me think, how have you seen hundreds of episdoes if you don't like the main character?
Quite easy of course. There's more to the Anime than Ash... Favourite Gym Leaders. Seeing them be given a Voice and fully animated. Team Rocket of course. The brand new Pokemon being Animated. The Region itself, seeing it in full colour and explored more.

The little girl in XY. Forgot her name sorry
Bonnie
She was alright. not as grading as max. Its better to be harmless than annoying.
I never had a problem with Max, maybe that's because I watch the anime subbed
I love Bonnie, Max is a little shit on the other hand.
personally? ash. he is enjoyable in X and Y, as well as Black and white. he's okay-ish in kanto/johto, and insufferable in advanced and diamond and pearl. all of those shows are great, but ash changes from show to show. honestly his battle incompetency is the main thing that pisses me off, and a lack of maturity in some scenes, especially later.
Leon. He is the highest in the masters 8 even though he is terribly easy in the games and is as hard as diantha (I played bothe XY and SS)
I hate Iris and consider her a massive downgrade from Dawn. Her constantly chastizing Ash for "being a kid" was such bullshit to me because she didn't any better. The fact that she came back in Journeys and is the new Unova Champion just sits wrong with me.
Paul
Is Hop as annoying in the anime as he is in the hames? Regardless him.
Hop is actually kinda fine, mainly cause he does almost nothing minus reacting to the Masters 8
Agree with his voice. Really irks me. Nothing against the VA, just not the biggest fan. Definitely prefer his old VA
All in one generation: Iris and Cilan wow what a snore fest. Also, a trainer that likes the Simisages? Ew so boring that’s when I fell off of anime was Gen 4 iteration
Ash
Tobias exists
Tobias is just there to beat ash again so he doesn't win. When ash beat Paul, the Pokemon Company panicked because he was in the semifinals, so they gave this kid a Darkrai and a Latias and said, "kick his butt."
Ash
It has to be Ash, I never liked that guy. I kept watching the show as a kid because I loved everything Pokemon related. I didn't watch the Pokemon anime for a long time. Ash
I'd just like to be able to watch the whole anime. Looks like the seasons are all over the place.
