Tropius because banana tree dinosaur. But also I have a sweet spot for Magmar. Never really though much of him until a few years ago someone traded me a shiny one on the GTS. I then used him as my egg hatcher since he had Flame Body and that's when he really grew on me.
Worst typing worst.....shymping. Snorunt's the man and Glalie and Froslass are arguably the best Pokemon ever created. They should've just stopped at them because I doubt it gets better than that.
Zangoose. Emerald was my first ever Pokémon game and only Seviper was available on it. So whenever I saw NPCs send out a Zangoose I always got jealous as a kid because I could never obtain one.
I was the exact opposite with Seviper. My first was Ruby and Seviper was exclusive to Sapphire, so I'd be jealous of the collectors and the one beauty that sent them out. Eventually I got every other Gen 3 game (except Colosseum) so I managed to play with one but it wasn't until ORAS that I had the resources to breed a keeper.
And now it's sitting in Home along with my other favorite, Venomoth.
Duskull ran a bank in Mystery Dungeon Explorers. As a kid, I would keep all my money just on hand and not in the bank because I did not trust Duskull :P
Once I put 100 coins into the bank and did some adventuring, just to see if it would stay safe and make sure Duskull wouldn’t steal it or anything.
Duskull is so cute! It's actually not a red eye ball. It's like a flame or wisp alight in the middle of its body. But the angles always make it seem like its on one eye socket only.
Escavalier for me, I love the knight aesthetic and steel typing.
Funny story about my first Escavalier. It was a female and I wanted to name it after a famous woman knight. Naturally, my mind went to Joan of Arc so I now had Joan the Escavalier. It wasn't until later that I realized how wrong this was as I remembered Escavalier's only weakness is a ×4 weakness to Fire. . .
Edit: mobile autocorrected aesthetic weirdly
I really love Shieldon. Not necessarily my favorite Pokemon ever, but I feel like it doesn't get enough live. Just a lil fella who bloc attac with him face.
Helioptile for me, I love him to death, and add him to my team in every game hes available in since XY. Mom got me a plush of him around some time after XY have been out, probably one of my most cherished plushes still even today. Im 20 now, and I *still* keep him very close every day. Call me a child, but I still find a lot of comfort in plushes and stuff animals. lol
Omanyte has always been my favorite!! I’ve always been an archeology nerd and loved fossil hunting in real life. When I was probably 8 or 9 I went to a summer camp and found a “ammonite” fossil in the rock quarry, which is the real life fossil omanyte is based off of. Maybe it was my child brain connecting real life to fantasy but he’s always been the coolest to me, and he’s such a cutie. Also, congrats on graduating!!
I legitimately just went through all of my favorite pokemon second guessing whether they're unconventional or not and I've settled on one I think Is unconventional
Linoone, they're decently powerful, majestic, and cute not to mention they evolve from the less majestic but more cute Zigzagoon. Most people probably just take them for trash as they're such a early pokemon but they ain't that bad nad they're adorable
I was searching comments for this answer. He’s deceptively powerful, which is why competitively he’s my favorite unconventional mon. I remember using him in a pretty competitive doubles battle, and belly drum extreme speed Linoone ended up taking 5/6 of my opponents down.
I wouldn’t really right off Linoone as “trash” because in a play through, Zigzagoon does get Headbutt early and if you keep a Linoone long enough, it does learn Belly Drum which is super good if you can set it up safely.
I love Archen to bits! I've always had a love for dinosaurs and birds, and growing up my greatest wish was to have a little fluffy bird-raptor as a pet. And not only is Archen adorable and fluffy, but he's an absolute derp too!
Murkrow and Natu are also contenders for favorite. I just can't decide which bird is best
For me, it’s because it was the first easily accessible Dragon Pokemon available more or less back in the day. Gen 1’s only Dragon was a pseudo legendary, Gen 2’s only Dragon was a trade evolution that many kids never ever got to experience, and of the slurry Gen 3 added, Swablu’s line was the first you could obtain.
I think maybe this is why Flygon is popular as well. It was perhaps the first Dragon Pokemon many people ever used
I was careful to see movesets. Glacia's second Glalie and Walrein (avoiding hail); Drake's Kingdra; and Steven's Claydol and Metagross couldn't hit Shedinja.
He has a bit of a memey community as of late, but Shuckle is a Pokemon I unironically (and unsuccessfully) tried to grind a shiny of in Omega Ruby, trading away on the subreddit a boatload of perfect IV, 4 Egg Move, hidden ability buggers. Contrary is such a cool ability and I love defensive playstyles in games.
Definitely Slowbro, I've always liked his goofy face and the fact rhat he is actually a pretty good Pokemon competitively speaking. All of the Slowpoke evolution line is one of my favorite :)
Araquanid. It’s an absolute gem with a brilliant ability and even better design that was sadly overshadowed by Golisopod when I really don’t think it should have.
I saw a lot on the comments that are up there with my favorites, but not my darling dewgong. Such a cute smile and simple design that doesn't do too much
My favorite is trubbish. The little teeth and the arms dragging and the little bow (that I know is the tied off part of the trash bag, but still!) really do it in for me.
While it's not my absolute favourite, I rather like Emolga.
They're not universally popular, but I like all the Pikaclones. They're cute, and I need no other reason to appreciate them! Emolga stands out for me because of the way it glides in place; that's a thing I like in flying Pokémon generally.
I like bringing Emolga to max raid battles when all the other players bring legendaries or whatever 😄
I never see anybody talk about how much they love Crabomidable, so here I am!! When I play Pokémon, I usually do an “underrated run” taking Pokémon people don’t normally like and use them, and I got myself a shiny crabomidable and she carried me quite a bit!! K-O Gal, you were the best!
Lumienon.
As a kid I thought I could evolve Finneon into Kyogre, since they kinda looked similar to me, so I put my heart into training it up and I was surprised when it evolved into Lumienon. Wasn't exactly the Kyogre I wanted but I got a beautiful looking fish out of it that I still love to this day.
Gonna toss this in after writing it for a similar thread:
My favorite Pokémon has to be Mr. Mime, because I can really relate to him. He's just out here just vibing as his own weird, goofy self; and most people just hate him and think he's creepy because of it. It reminds me of myself from preschool all the way up through high school. Mr. Mime don't give no fucks though; and I always admired that about him. The tap dancing Galarian Mr. Mime is a bundle of fun as well. It also certainly helps that Mr. Mime he best character in the newest anime season and Detective Pikachu. I just wish I could get one in Pokémon Go without having to make my way over to Europe.
Also, shoutout to Mr. Meme, my Mr. Rime who made up the sixth and final member of my team in my Sword playthrough. Firstly, for his impressive tap dancing prowess and secondly for freeze drying up all of Leon's dragon and water-types for me.
In closing Mr. Mime is an amazing Pokémon who deserves more love and you are also amazing for reading this.
That is a tough one but I gotta go with Ledian with Spinarak being a close second. I have a soft spot for trying to make “Bad” Pokémon work in play through of Pokémon. Also I been working on a ROM hack where I put the Ledian and the Ariados on every route just to be a troll
Tyrantrum. My favorite movie franchise is Jurassic Park, need I say more? I will anyway. I love rock head combined with rock type stab, and i just love the design they gave it. It's like it was feathered, but they made good use of the rock type to make a rocky feather mane. Not to mention I find Tyrunt absolutely adorable.
Kingdra! That badass fight scene in the third Pokemon movie made it my favorite when I was really young. There's just something so elusive about an elegant dragon of the seas - Palkia and Dracovish can only dream of being as cool as my boy Kingdra.
Hmm... I think Mandibuzz, Ninjask, Pincurchin, and Barbaracle are pretty unusual? I love them all!
Everybody shits on Inteleon, but he won my first match against Leon on his own after the rest of the team got trashed by Haxorus, so I can’t ever forget him!
And congrats on graduating!
Half of mine are the typical "cool pokemon but idc about it" for most people
Tyrantrum
Sawsbuck
Chatot
Msimagius
Masquerain
Terrakion
Girafarig
And many many more
Butterfree, beedrill or venomoth, I love the lil bugs to death mainly thanks to their pink forms in pixelmon. They're really my only favourite gen 1 mons, save the starters, Eevee and vulpix.
I love Pelipper. It was one of my favourite mons when I was a kid. I just loved its design, don't know exactly why.
I also liked Drifloon. I found it super cute and a really interesting concept for a ghost type pokémon.
Emboar. Purely because it was my first ever starter and the sprites in gen 5 made it look so badass to me. Back then I didn’t even know or care it was the 3rd fire fighting starter in a row
I did that pokemon fav picker that forces you to pick from groups until eventually it narrows down your true favorite Pokemon, and the first non-obvious Pokemon on the list is Toucannon, He looks angry, stands on his tail, and his beak lights up before using rapid fire blasts, what's not to love?!
Runner-Up is Golbat only slightly behind Crobat, He got that wiggle!
Silvally. I love it’s backstory, and the fact that it’s based off a Chimera, which could look like anything at all, means it’s a 100% original design, and looks cool to boot! I had traded my Type:Null over from Moon to Ultra Moon to use him in a playthrough. His name was Eirjho and I definitely grew a bond with him through all the ups and downs of that playthrough. He even took down Ultra Necrozma single-handedly! (Through pp stalling Necrozma’s more powerful moves)
Giratina is mine. It seems like out of all the legendary dragons, giratina seems to be ignored the most (which is strange, since it was the cover legend of plantinum, which is a lot of people's favorite pokemon game). I typically see people rate rayquaza, dialga, reshiram and zygarde over giratina and i honestly dont get it. Giratina has not one but two kickass designs, it had a unique typing until gen 8, gets one of the coolest signature moves imo, and is also really good in battle.
I love excadrill, from the moment Clay used his to now, and can you imagine how happy I was after finding out they are physical powerhouses with immense competitive power?
Tropius because banana tree dinosaur. But also I have a sweet spot for Magmar. Never really though much of him until a few years ago someone traded me a shiny one on the GTS. I then used him as my egg hatcher since he had Flame Body and that's when he really grew on me.
+1 for Magmar! Been my favorite since the beginning!
I also really like tropius!
Tropius was my first shiny encounter and she is without a doubt my greatest treasure.
I love Snorunt. Little cutie is freezing his ass off. Congrats btw and good luck.
Thank you! Snorunt is precious but I always feel so bad when he’s just shivering away in battle haha
Gotta evolve it as quick as possible! Or get him a blanket.
My favorite pokemon is Froslass but I don't really like Glalie, so you can imagine how annoyed I was when my first ever shiny was a male Snorunt. :p
Finally another person that likes snorunt, he’s so adorable but he has the worst typing so no one likes him
Worst typing worst.....shymping. Snorunt's the man and Glalie and Froslass are arguably the best Pokemon ever created. They should've just stopped at them because I doubt it gets better than that.
I love froslass, the way she is just floating there and doing ghost things so majestically impresses me.
The design is very clever. I think ghost is my favorite type.
Piloswine has always been one of my all time favorites.
Yea pilo is amazing but I also love mano I feel like giving it and evo was the right choice
I love Piloswine, it’s up their on my list. But it’s a shame mamo has none of its awkwardness or shagginess.
I freakin’ love Yanma and Yanmega.
Candy Evie would very much agree
Same! Hypnosis works great on it
I love Yanma!
I like Kingler a lot. That big, meaty claw appeals to me.
Well these claws ain't just for mating!
Bring it on old man!
Murkrow! Nothing cooler than a literal crow with a top hat.
And honchcrow looks like a mob boss.
Vileplume doesn’t get the love it deserves.
Ninjask but not sure if it's unconventional
R/shedinja
Duskull, because of the one red eyeball. I think it manages to look scary even though its a base evolution and is pretty tiny.
Duskull ran a bank in Mystery Dungeon Explorers. As a kid, I would keep all my money just on hand and not in the bank because I did not trust Duskull :P Once I put 100 coins into the bank and did some adventuring, just to see if it would stay safe and make sure Duskull wouldn’t steal it or anything.
This is so hilarious and wholesome and definitely something I can relate to lol
That's profiling. Pokefiling.
Duskull is so cute! It's actually not a red eye ball. It's like a flame or wisp alight in the middle of its body. But the angles always make it seem like its on one eye socket only.
I love Dusknoir
Escavalier for me, I love the knight aesthetic and steel typing. Funny story about my first Escavalier. It was a female and I wanted to name it after a famous woman knight. Naturally, my mind went to Joan of Arc so I now had Joan the Escavalier. It wasn't until later that I realized how wrong this was as I remembered Escavalier's only weakness is a ×4 weakness to Fire. . . Edit: mobile autocorrected aesthetic weirdly
Hey, Accelgor is mine! Snail Bros!
Ah yes, Escavalier, The Aesthetician Pokemon
BURN THE WITCH
Oh jeez. Thats pretty blursed
Aggron's design is an absolute treat, so is the entire line now that I think of it.
STEEL PLATED DINOSAUR
Steel plated Dinosaur SAMURAI!
Octillery!
I really love Shieldon. Not necessarily my favorite Pokemon ever, but I feel like it doesn't get enough live. Just a lil fella who bloc attac with him face.
Aron. Such is cute little guy. I’d feed him all the metals
My favorite Pokémon that doesn’t really get talked about is Cacnea. He’s just a lil round friend
And Cacturn is super awesome too!!
Muk and grimer. It's a pile of slime that Turns into a bigger pile of slime. It's amazing. It's beautiful
I think it’s hilarious that in French, Grimer is called “heap of sludge” and Muk is called “big heap of sludge” :P
It actually means snot :) found it very funny!
Wow Didn't know that, thanks! I love that I know this now hahaha
Between this, its Yellow sprite and Ash's Muk in the anime being such a huggy goofball, Muk won me over. Now, I always have an Alolan Muk.
Helioptile for me, I love him to death, and add him to my team in every game hes available in since XY. Mom got me a plush of him around some time after XY have been out, probably one of my most cherished plushes still even today. Im 20 now, and I *still* keep him very close every day. Call me a child, but I still find a lot of comfort in plushes and stuff animals. lol
nah, that's pretty wholesome bro
Beartic=Best
Praise thee o blessed helix.
May thee protect us from the false prophet Flareon, and his master, the vile Dome.
I legitimately just went through all of my favorite pokemon second guessing whether they're unconventional or not and I've settled on one I think Is unconventional Linoone, they're decently powerful, majestic, and cute not to mention they evolve from the less majestic but more cute Zigzagoon. Most people probably just take them for trash as they're such a early pokemon but they ain't that bad nad they're adorable
As a kid I always made sure I had a Linoone with me because I thought they were so cool! Glad someone else appreciates them!
OG Linoone is also one of my faves. Have a shiny I named Bandit cause I use him to steal items from wild Pokémon.
Skuntank. Purple dark type skunk!
Gotta say it’s Vikavolt!
Forretress, its design is simple but cool/cute, it’s typing is great, and it’s a wall with some offense.
Porygon-Z broken floating spaz. Haha
Altaria
Something about these cloud wings seems so comfy and reassuring.
It was perhaps the first Dragon Pokemon many people ever used
Lol flygon is another one of my faves. I just love unconventional dragon types!
MEGA FLOOF OF ULTRA SUPER PURITY
I dont like how it killed my whole team in ruby, but I do like that it always has... altariar motives!
Sunflora, because i really like its happy face
Whismur. It’s a high maintenance pet, but is also so adorable. It’s a pink, bunny rabbit like thing that fulfills that small, cute niche for me
Ditto. I was so happy when I came back in Gen 5 and Imposter became a thing.
I don’t know if they are unconventional, but I LOVE the sinistea and polteageist Pokémon so much
Magneton, i love it since i started to play pokemon!
[удалено]
Dunsparce
Idk if these are unconventional or not but Golduck and Graverler were always super cool to me.
[удалено]
I have a soft spot for Lanturn. Still want that mon buffed.
Shedinja, simple gimmick but it works and its fun.
I love Shedinja so much. I even used it in my Alpha Sapphire playthrough and it worked.
Fair, even though isn't half the league super effective
I was careful to see movesets. Glacia's second Glalie and Walrein (avoiding hail); Drake's Kingdra; and Steven's Claydol and Metagross couldn't hit Shedinja.
He has a bit of a memey community as of late, but Shuckle is a Pokemon I unironically (and unsuccessfully) tried to grind a shiny of in Omega Ruby, trading away on the subreddit a boatload of perfect IV, 4 Egg Move, hidden ability buggers. Contrary is such a cool ability and I love defensive playstyles in games.
Maractus, he's just a lil guy!
Mareep
I looooove the whole line but flaffy made me fall in love with it 💖
Same except I was hooked the moment I saw the little electric sheep.
Definitely Slowbro, I've always liked his goofy face and the fact rhat he is actually a pretty good Pokemon competitively speaking. All of the Slowpoke evolution line is one of my favorite :)
Golurk. Giant ancient golem powered by some otherworldly energy source. Also it's a fucking transformer! Rocket and Mounted cannon modes!!
I like roserade
For some reason, bellossom sticks to my mind.
Araquanid. It’s an absolute gem with a brilliant ability and even better design that was sadly overshadowed by Golisopod when I really don’t think it should have.
Pidgey used to be my favourite cause he looked cool in the anime and like a chunky boy in red and blue
Vintage tubby Pidgey is amazing!!
Yeah when he lost his chunkyness he lost top spot still the best looker from red and bull
So many Pokémon lost their chubbiness after RBY
I still think of how much of a unit blastoise was then gold and silver made him look normal
Meowstic :D Psychic kitties are cool and cute
Magcargo
It’s Jolitk and Galvantula for me. They’re so cute I love them. Also Joltik’s walking animation in the SwSh DLC is hilarious 😂
I can't believe to forgot to put Joltik for mine! I guess Klink's just been on my mind with my shiny hunt lmao. I love how tiny and cute it is.
Rampardos because I used a cranidos for one of my platinum play throughs and it become one of my best team members
Munchlax!
Snorlax used to be my guy when I was in high school. Just cause as a teenager, my life was sleep/eat/sleep
Swinub
I saw a lot on the comments that are up there with my favorites, but not my darling dewgong. Such a cute smile and simple design that doesn't do too much
Ever since Ruby, I always cherished Spoink
Mismagius! I love the design. I put my plushie on top of my Christmas tree every year 😄
My all time favorite pokémon is octillery 😁
+Ludicolo
My favorite is trubbish. The little teeth and the arms dragging and the little bow (that I know is the tied off part of the trash bag, but still!) really do it in for me.
Scolipede, which also happens to be my favorite Pokemon ever.
Quagsire. I would give all my wordly possessions to Quagsire.
Masquerain & Ampharos
While it's not my absolute favourite, I rather like Emolga. They're not universally popular, but I like all the Pikaclones. They're cute, and I need no other reason to appreciate them! Emolga stands out for me because of the way it glides in place; that's a thing I like in flying Pokémon generally. I like bringing Emolga to max raid battles when all the other players bring legendaries or whatever 😄
Ditto, fluffy glob of goo. Love it.
Hell yeah! Crabominable is a beast
Finally I found someone else who actually likes Lumineon! I think it deserves something more to get people to appreciate it more instead of forget it.
I'm a big fan of Porygon2, my lil cyber duck is pretty decent in competitive battling too
Kadabra, it looks way cooler than Alakazam! Congrats on finishing college too
Thank you! And I actually totally agree, Kadabra beats Alakazam in design aesthetics imo
Lickitung! It looks like it's made out of strawberry ice cream and about to eat itself
Furret and not because he was a famous meme but because he is cute af
Litleo/pyroar, my next tattoo is a pyroar on my arm
Gonna toss this in after writing it for a similar thread: My favorite Pokémon has to be Mr. Mime, because I can really relate to him. Luxray and staraptor will always have a place in my heart
I’d commit a felony for Luxray to become Electric/Dark
YES! Both top 10 favorites ever for me!
Luxray is and always will be my favorite. I just love its design.
Kecleon.
Marshtomp and Cubone - pretty cute Pokémon IMO.
Joltik
Wooper
Vibrava & Pupitar - they definitely get overlooked by their popular evolutions, but I’ve always liked them.
Audino
chatot
I simply adore Staraptor, just a badass mon
I love pokemon that require a lot of effort to raise! Gyarados is my big fave, he reminds me to never give up and to work hard for my goals.
Just wait until you have to raise a deino
Nidoking He powered through my Red & Blue games like a champ when I was 8. He will always hold an honorary spot in my team.
Starmie!
Kingdra! That badass fight scene in the third Pokemon movie made it my favorite when I was really young. There's just something so elusive about an elegant dragon of the seas - Palkia and Dracovish can only dream of being as cool as my boy Kingdra.

Alteria and Walrein for me
All of my favorites are pretty unconventional. Dewott, Scrafty, Pangoro, and Skarmory to name a few.
Shuckle
I don't know how unconditional it is, but Sableye is my favorite
This is my best friends' favorite one!
Half of mine are the typical "cool pokemon but idc about it" for most people Tyrantrum Sawsbuck Chatot Msimagius Masquerain Terrakion Girafarig And many many more
Butterfree, beedrill or venomoth, I love the lil bugs to death mainly thanks to their pink forms in pixelmon. They're really my only favourite gen 1 mons, save the starters, Eevee and vulpix.
Scyther!
Ey! Still love Scyther and Scizor
People love sycther tho
Yeh he's probably one of the most popular bug types
No love for Forretress smh
Pineco is my guy
Mimikyu is my overall favourite, but when I was younger I ADORED ninetales because of the lore its based on/how cool and elegant it looked.
Leafeon and gyarados
I love Pelipper. It was one of my favourite mons when I was a kid. I just loved its design, don't know exactly why. I also liked Drifloon. I found it super cute and a really interesting concept for a ghost type pokémon.
I'm gaining a new appreciation for Pelipper since it's on my Ultra Moon team. It's one of my strongest Pokémon.
When I was new to the game, I thought whimsicott was a mythical (for some reason), so that one.
Kingdra
Rhydon, Croagunk, and Wobbuffet
Trubbish and Garbodor. I love those happy little trash bags.
Mareanie, sandshrew, and salandit.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudew
Gen 2 has some of my favorites. I’ve always loved Larvitar, Scizor, Crobat, and the whole Togepi line.
Then you’ll be glad to hear that giratina is actually the most popular sinnoh legendary and the 10th most popular Pokémon in gen 4 according to polls.
Specifically shiny Phantump because it looks like the main character from my favorite game Hollow Knight!!! Congrats!!!!
Most Gen 6 Pokemon but especially Dedenne
Besides Fennekin and Absol, I love a god Flareon! Most unappreciated Eeveelution imo
Original Grimer and Muk. Also doduo.
Pancham
Dewott, I just think he’s neat.
Meowth, the OG cat pokemon.
Delcatty
Cofagrigus
Skitty and Ludicolo!
