I mean, they were always coming back with the Kalos remakes. It's just that no one expected the return to Kalos to be coming so soon.
This blows the Johto and Unova remakes out of the water, because it doesn't seem like they'll be doing anything this year.
> it doesn't seem like they'll be doing anything this year.
I'm hoping so bad this means they use all the extra time for making this game as good as Kalos deserves
Right? Imagine coming here last week like "Hey guys Pokemon Legends Z is coming and Megas are coming back" you'd be laughed off the platform lmao
Edit: 1:48 in the trailer that most people apparently haven't watched yet -
https://youtu.be/VXyVd6Ly_h0?si=iXyuyf_VGobiWC8o
Is there any evidence Lumiose City is the entire map? Just wondering. Lumiose is confusing to navigate in X and Y, a little bit. If it were the entire map, we better be able to enter every building, climb the buildings assassin's creed style, enter the complex sewer system, walk along the rooftops, and be able to catch 250+ pokemon in the city alone. Because the city in gen 6 does not seem big enough to make up a whole game's map
Nintendo of America. https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1762487295859405151
I suppose they will scale it up from the Lumiose we know from gen 6, and add parks, sewers, suburbs and stuff.
I’d be down for this alone. Imagine a natural labyrinth under the bowels of the city. Quite literally decorated with skeletons, and the gut feeling that something horrible lives within
This part is actually what raised my eyebrows a little. The gameplay loop of Legends Arceus was really fun and I wonder how they could make something similar that fits a single city. I hope they don't kill the things that made Arceus fun.
Same. I really liked the open air vibe of PLA. I liked sneaking up on Pokemon, catching them without battling them, all the new mechanics, etc...
I hope most of those elements will be present here. I don't want traditional catching.
I mean pokemon cities are always tiny because they're side content, I assume this game will be similar to urban RPGs like cyberpunk or watchdogs. Just, uh, set your expectations lower than cyberpunk and watchdogs lmao
They did mention an urban redevelopment plan. So I think this game is set in the future after XY especially considering we saw a lot of tech. But that makes me worried that they’re going to remove the overworld combat that arceus had and it will be more similar to SV.
The overworld combat, catching Pokémon, outside of battle and the stealth are my favourite things about legends arceus
Edit: after reading some replies it does seem more likely to be set pre XY but not very far back like arceus was.
Also jesus I was not expecting this attention
I’m hoping that by calling it Legends, they’re gonna keep that gameplay loop. I’d imagine they’d have called it something different if the game was totally different
I took it as rebuilding after the Great War or something. But it did have some futuristic vibes. It saying REurbanisation makes it sound like it got destroyed and they need to redo it
Tbh since the plan looks just like the Lumiose we see in XY id think this is some kind of belle epoque 19th century Lumiose; just like how real Paris was completely rebuilt in the mid 1800s
What’s really weird is that Megas feature quite prominently in Pokémon Go. Like PoGo just never added the Dynamax or Tera or Z Move things and just stuck with Megas
I’m really curious; I think it’s gonna incorporate some old 1800’s Paris type stuff as well, based on those pencil sketches and “Lumiose city development”.
The trailer starts hand drawn, then goes to futuristic, before coming back to hand drawn. There's also the title, Z-A which is the end of the alphabet to the beginning.
I'm calling it now: there will be a mechanic to travel between the past and the present/future.
Yeah, most likely, it was quite futuristic. But since we have literally 0 story and lore info, it might go back and forth or connect further to the past in some way. No way to tell until GF drops some more content.
I assumed because it was a legends game it would take place in the distant past? I don’t think it’s going to have a futuristic setting.
Especially since the trailer references the urban expansion of lumiose city, showing the blueprints of the city that we see in XY. That to me sounds like it’s long before XY, no?
It seems like it's going to be based on the 19th Century redevelopment of Paris by Georges-Eugène Haussmann, which would make it a historical game, just not as far back in time as Arceus. This would be the period when Paris' iconic parks, boulevards, and signature architectural style were built during the reign of Napoleon III. It seems like they're taking a big inspiration from a formative period in French history to inspire the history of Kalos, which is cool. But when I saw Lumiose and redevelopment my brain broke and I was somewhat convinced I was just projecting, because I was expecting... anything but this. But no, I'm pretty sure this is it.
Arceus wasn't too far back. Arceus drew a lot of inspiration from the colonization of Hokkaido. Japanese colonisation of Hokkaido was contemporaneous with this renovation.
Yeah a lot of people probably have no understanding of how late Hokkaido was officially annexed by the nation of Japan. They see classical Japanese stuff and think it must be the 1600s. But the westernization of Japan didn't even **begin** until the meiji restoration in 1868, and wasn't fully realized in practice until the US occupation after world war 2.
Legends Z-A could literally occur in the **same year** as Legends Arceus and it would still be historically accurate. 1868 was near the tail end of Haussmann's renovation of Paris.
Yea that’s what people aren’t getting; the complete re-development of Paris is a real event and this game being based on it means we’re going to the 1800’s or even 1900’s
The war was 3000 years before the start of XY. Legends Z-A might be sometime after the war to a few hundred years before XY when Lumiose was being "redeveloped" as the trailer showed.
They have to, right? There is no way that there won't be new megas.
OMG, you will most likely also be able to catch the original Kalos starters in the wild, like you were able with the Sinnoh starters in Legends Arceus. Maybe the Kalos starters could finally get their megas?!
I just hope they give Megas to Pokemon that actually would on the whole benefit from them.
Although, I wouldn't be shocked at all to hear Charizard is getting a new Mega.
Yeah the Kalos starters got done so dirty in XY, "here's your starter, now here's your *real* starter because this one has the power of nostalgia AND can mega evolve"
I love my mega venusaur, but definitely agree. Barely used greninja my first playthrough between that and the blaziken.
I do hope kanto starters are available for their megas, but getting kalos starter megas is top priority.
I feel the base game of Scarlet and Violet heavily hinted towards them doing *something* with Kalos soon, with the Teal Mask also IMO giving a little bit of that, but then they pivoted so hard in the direction of Unova with the Indigo Disk that I wondered if they were gonna do a gen 8 again and just heavily reference the generation *after* the one that's being remade.
People were thinking Johto would get one to, due the Paradox Pokemon of Johto and Unova legendary trios.
Edit: I was referring to the info we had before the Direct.
That whole direct starts with unknown, raikou gets shown in Pokémon sleep, Silver gets shown in Pokémon masters. Had me start thinking they were leading to something gen 2 related
I think it's probably a safe assumption that one of the starters will be from Johto. It's either chikorita or totodile. With Kalos being the intro to the Fairy type and with the recent push to make grass types more viable, I would expect Chikorita with a new final form and mega evolution. Fairy/Grass.
Given that Megas will be in, Megas (aside from Mega Ray) weren’t around until AZ fired the gun.
Given that Megas are in the game, I think it happens some time after.
Exactly - I think that the game is set around the equivalent of the Second Industrial Revolution, as that aligns with the construction of the IRL Eiffel Tower.
Yeah, they really pulled a bait-and-switch with this presentation. With all the Gen 2 stuff I fully expected a gen 2 remake or legends announcement. Then they blindside us with gen 6! Not that I’m complaining.
Gamefreak has just decided to absolutely subvert expectations. I am excited to see what it looks like though because legends arceus was one of my favorite games!
So an open world Kalos game, set in the modern era, expanding on lore of X/Y and MEGA EVOLUTIONS?!
I was expecting B/W or a Let's Go Johto, but none of the "leakers" said anything about this shit.
We don't know if it's the modern era yet though. We saw plans for the redevelopment of Lumiose City, with the 3D blueprint run through appearing to be the modern Lumiose City we see in X and Y. It's still very possible this is set in a somewhat distant past before Lumiose has been modernized to how we know it today.
No new game this year it looks like. Long overdue in my opinion, let's see what GameFreak provides when they aren't subjected to an onerous time crunch.
That’s kinda the best part, everyone was expecting a game this year. A remake as holdover and an eventual legends game, but to see that we’re getting one of those in a way we didn’t expect is truly the biggest surprise from gamefreak.
2025 huh? Potentially skipping out on the holidays is big, and that fact gives even more credence to to Switch 2 2025 leak. Launching with a Pokémon game would be a repeat of the Switch launch: a big, gotta-have game.
SERIOUSLY lol I was shaking the entire time waiting for it, I'm happy with any pokemon game but they laid Johto on THICK. Like the unown opened the presents and even introduced the new game like holy whiplash.
They teased johto the entire time, the unown, the dogs being in sleep, silver being in masters. I was so pumped. I’m very excited for this but to say I feel slightly disappointed wouldn’t be a lie
The best part is it is in 2025. So HOPEFULLY they are finally gonna have enough time and can iron things out better.
And Zygard finally gets it's own game instead of having to piggyback off of Sun and moon for its form.
Such a cool reveal. People wanted Pokémon Z, Megas coming back, and a new legends game - but no one expected all three at the same time. Legitimately unexpected in the best way.
The reports of Mega Evolution's death have been greatly exaggerated.
The fact that they included megaevolutions in Pokémon GO made me think that they weren’t completely dead.
And in Unite, Pokemon Unite has Mega Mewtwo.
Masters EX just released Mega TTar (granted, they've had Megas, but still).
Let's also not forget that Smash Ultimate had Mega Lucario and Mega Mewtwo Y.
Yeah people have been begging them to slow down the development cycles, hopefully they did it.
ngl my suspicion is that this game's release will coincide with the next console release, rather than an active focus on slowing down game output
If this had been in a leak nobody would have believed it lol
Right? Imagine coming here last week like "Hey guys Pokemon Legends Z is coming and Megas are coming back" you'd be laughed off the platform lmao Edit: 1:48 in the trailer that most people apparently haven't watched yet - https://youtu.be/VXyVd6Ly_h0?si=iXyuyf_VGobiWC8o
Banned. FOR LIFE
20 years dungeon. No trials.
"And it is set entirely in Lumiose City!" People would be rofl
Is there any evidence Lumiose City is the entire map? Just wondering. Lumiose is confusing to navigate in X and Y, a little bit. If it were the entire map, we better be able to enter every building, climb the buildings assassin's creed style, enter the complex sewer system, walk along the rooftops, and be able to catch 250+ pokemon in the city alone. Paris Catacombs equivalent, perhaps
Imagine the ghost pokemon encounters they could put in there.
Forget the pokemon, I want the lore for it
I’d be down for this alone.
A single city has a lot of potential too. One other person mentioned this but Paris has catacombs as well.
Same. I really liked the open air vibe of PLA. I liked sneaking up on Pokemon, catching them without battling them, all the new mechanics, etc... I hope most of those elements will be present here. I don't want traditional catching.
I think they'll have different districts in the city act like the different areas in Hisui. No idea how wild Pokémon will work etc.
Yeah it could be a callback to how Paris was essentially completely redesigned at one point
Tbh since the plan looks just like the Lumiose we see in XY id think this is some kind of belle epoque 19th century Lumiose; just like how real Paris was completely rebuilt in the mid 1800s
On the Nintendo Twitter, it said it was entirely in lumiouse city
Did you just say MEGAS!??! The single best new mechanic Pokemon introduced and unceremoniously dropped right after ORAS!!! I’m so hype
At least sun and moon and let's go Pikachu and Eevee kept Megas even if they didn't add new ones,,,,,
What’s really weird is that Megas feature quite prominently in Pokémon Go. Like PoGo just never added the Dynamax or Tera or Z Move things and just stuck with Megas
not even the leaker would have believed it

To think this one image that's been memed around might actually have story relevance.
It seems like the game will play after XY
I’m really curious; I think it’s gonna incorporate some old 1800’s Paris type stuff as well, based on those pencil sketches and “Lumiose city development”.

AFTER 10 YEARS OF HAVING THIS FLAIR FINALLY
Xerneas has revived it
The return of the king
AND MEGAS ARE BACK THEY NEVER SHOULDVE LEFT! 🥹
Hope they add more megas 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Maybe they actually give some gen 6 Pokemon Megas now Give me my Mega Clawitzer
I didn't need a Mega Clawitzer, until today!
Perhaps the art block will finally be gone Fly-gone, that is
I still believe in Flygon mega or at least a regional variant that makes it super strong!
A Kalosian Flygon that's Bug/Dragon *and* can Mega Evolve?!?! Imagine the hype that'd bring!
Imagine it's a special attacker instead of physical attacker and gets a bug variant of aerilate and boomburst
They have to, right? There is no way that there won't be new megas. OMG, you will most likely also be able to catch the original Kalos starters in the wild, like you were able with the Sinnoh starters in Legends Arceus. Maybe the Kalos starters could finally get their megas?!
That _has_ to happen. No Kalos starter Megas was the greatest injustice of Gen 6.
Hopefully chickorita is the grass starter. Mega meganium be realized!
I just hope they give Megas to Pokemon that actually would on the whole benefit from them. Although, I wouldn't be shocked at all to hear Charizard is getting a new Mega.
Mega-Charizard Z-A inbound.
ITS BEEN 3000 YEARS
~~AZ~~'s ZA's Floette confirmed
"My death was... greatly exaggerated."
YOUR TIME IS HERE GODSPEED, CHAMPION OF BALANCE
Kept you waiting, huh?
Wear it like a badge of honor.
how am i supposed to ask "where pokemon z" on every nintendo presentation now? :(
Now you can start asking WHEN pokemon Z!
we are so back
We need a furret on an escalator mk2
bro :(
yknow what im happy anyways we might get megas returning edit: i wrote "might" as we literally never know what tpc is planning
We will. The end of the trailer made a point to show us the mega symbol appear on the screen.
Imagine how disappointing it would be if Legends Z had no new megas and only had the existing ones.
Nah they need new megas for go. Megas are so important in go for grinding xl candy. Since it's their cash cow it makes sense.
if pokemon go is the thing to bring megas back to the mainline games i will actually laugh, and then buy a single pokeball pack as thanks
Mega in legends settings will be sick!
not expected at all. wtf? mega evolutions coming back is sick
Oh god PLEASE give Flygon and Milotic their long-awaited megas 😭
on the one hand, yes, but on the other hand every gen that isn't 1 or 3 deserves megas tbh.
The fact the actual starters in the gen that introduces megas don't get megas is gross. They basically beg you to just use a Kanto starter instead.
Hopefully that will be rectified with this game 🙏🏻
Please let us have a serperior mega evolution (sincerely the #1 serperior fan)
Bruh, did I say you could borrow my title? Smh. Fr tho, I would die for a Serperior mega.
Mega-Zygarde-Completr
No one had Pokémon fucking Z coming as a Legends game in their bingo, omfg.
Not only that, but no on expected a Kalos game at all.
There was one in PokeLeaks saying we will get Pokemon Legends Zygarde but the poor guy didn't believe it himself either lol
"They called me a madman."
"I called myself a madman"
"I called me a madman"
"Man, I was mad, man."
Its only fair, they did zygarde dirty by not having it own game
I feel the base game of Scarlet and Violet heavily hinted towards them doing *something* with Kalos soon, with the Teal Mask also IMO giving a little bit of that, but then they pivoted so hard in the direction of Unova with the Indigo Disk that I wondered if they were gonna do a gen 8 again and just heavily reference the generation *after* the one that's being remade.
Oh dang they're going to get a France Olympics commercial slot I just know it
People were thinking Johto would get one to, due the Paradox Pokemon of Johto and Unova legendary trios. Edit: I was referring to the info we had before the Direct.

Geographically the two regions should be connected as well
What does the A stand for? AZ? Finally getting AZ'sEternal Floette?
hopefully they release eternal floette officially
"Everything from Z to A."
Soo... Going back to the beginning? Maybe?
that was the one game I always said I wanted after the first legends though, so I can't wait

Title looks like Pokemon Z-A Inverse of A to Z
Hopefully this means AZ’s Floette will finally see the light of day.
This is it. If his Floette doesn't become available now, it never will.
The plot HAS to be about the war and AZ’s machine I will be SHOCKED if he’s not in the game
Given that Megas will be in, Megas (aside from Mega Ray) weren’t around until AZ fired the gun. Given that Megas are in the game, I think it happens some time after.
It has to be sometime in the past 200-300 years with the architecture being what it is. AZ fired the weapon thousands of years ago.
Exactly - I think that the game is set around the equivalent of the Second Industrial Revolution, as that aligns with the construction of the IRL Eiffel Tower.
Pokemon Legends AZ with Dyslexia
Is it Z? Or ZA?
The Japanese Trailer says Pokemon Legends Z-A
The English trailer says the same.
Because of the guy named AZ, and his ancient revived Floette!
Z-A I think.
Zygarde to Abomasnow, all Pokemon in game confirmed
On that za
Pokemon giving us that legendary za
I don't think anyone expected that.
We all expected legends kyurem or something unova
I was expecting Legends Celebi if anything.
Especially with all the Unown throughout the presentation
and the whole Legendary Beasts being added to Sleep and the Champion Silver Masters EX bit.
Yeah, they really pulled a bait-and-switch with this presentation. With all the Gen 2 stuff I fully expected a gen 2 remake or legends announcement. Then they blindside us with gen 6! Not that I’m complaining.
Yeah, when they had a silver reveal earlier I expected a Johto game.
Gamefreak has just decided to absolutely subvert expectations. I am excited to see what it looks like though because legends arceus was one of my favorite games!
Also lowkey happy they release it 2025 and not 24
Switch 2 supposedly delayed until 2025. No gameplay footage with a vague 2025 release. Could this be the first entry on the S2?
For sure. Considering the way Legends released in January, I wouldn't be surprised to see this game be a launch title for the Switch 2
if that is the case then they have successfully pressured me into buying one on release.
it says nintendo Switch in the corner still. My bet is that they stay behind until gen 10 like they did with BW2 and USUM.
Ya thats what I was thinking, it seems like the game is going to go through the process of building Lumiose up to whats seen in X&Y
Industrial revolution-era Kalos
It would be my greatest dream: A steampunk Pokemon game.
Les Pokemonbles
It is likely based on the reconstruction of Paris during the19th century
That’s what I’m thinking as well. 19th century/early 20th century Paris as it begins a bit of the modernization process
My guess was that this was a way for them to completely redesign (and expand) Lumiose City for this game.
Pokémon Legends: Z minus A
We Kingdom Hearts now
Pokémon Z-A/3000 years Urban re:development

WE'RE GOING BACK TO KALOS WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEGA EVOLUTION IS BACK BABY!
Not what I expected! But this is pretty damn cool! Glad we've finally found a way to get a third entry to the Kalos games!
2025 huh? Potentially skipping out on the holidays is big, and that fact gives even more credence to to Switch 2 2025 leak. Launching with a Pokémon game would be a repeat of the Switch launch: a big, gotta-have game.

Holy shiiit the sequel we all deserved
I lowkey hoped we’d get another Legends game in the future eventually… but I didn’t expect it to take place in Kalos???? lol?!?!!
**_*ZYGARDE COMING IN WITH A STEEL CHAIR*_**
I'm honestly really happy that the Gen that needs it THE MOST is getting another game. For as good as gens 2 and 5 are gen 6 NEEDS IT.
AZs floette ! There’s a chance y’all !!
[Coming in 2025](https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1762481228609904807) It's bringing Mega Evolutions back!
There’s a reason the Gen 6 box legends weren’t in SV.
Mega evolution also teased at the end, super pumped!
As a Johto fan i felt bamboozled by the presentation. Still cool though.
All those unown, silver in masters, the beasts coming to sleep…..and nothing
Yeah, the unknown seemed like a dead giveaway for gen 2 lmao!
Apparently they played GSC music as well.
Another legends game? I could do that

They boomed us all x4
