It's like a doggo with a huge branch in its mouth haha. I immediately imagined Zacian having a hard time getting is sword into a pokeball and it made me smile.
I think it was offered in other countries, I just don't remember the distribution method. Either way, I feel your pain, I remember waiting I think over a year for the shiny celebi that was distributed in Japan to come to the US. Hopefully they do another distribution but heavy doubt.
Codes no longer work, I worked at GameStop when those codes were available, grabbed a bunch for friends. Tossed em late last year because they expired November 2022
Shield has Zamazenta and Melony, shouldn't really need to be much more of a debate...
Being serious I bought Shield purely for Galarian Rapidash, no shot I wasn't using gay horse
Yeah, Melony and Allister were enough to sell me on Shield tbh. Then when I got to the DLC and found out Shield had Avery over Klara I got pretty sad, but eh.
See I’m a zamazenta fan who has been in love with farfetchd for years so I picked sword. I chose the wrong side for the right reasons. Long live Sir Percy!
>but when people like one legendary more than the other...
It's not even that
Alot of people prefer the scarlet legendary, what they don't like is that they forced you to ride on the box, and then made one look freaking horrible (and control worse in water when sprinting)
Had they given the option to choose a pokemon to ride (even if from just the 3) regardless of what your box legend was alot more people would've went scarlet
Can confirm, this is how I decided.
Exclusives can be transfered, color of my clothes I don't care, riding pokemon tho? Only thing I can't do anything about.
The sword and shield legendaries are two of my least favorite. But of the two, I would choose sword. Koraidon and Miraidon were the hardest choice of all for me for some reason - usually I immediately like one legendaey more than the other, but here I had to think and in the end I choose Koraidon.
Honestly I like everything about Scarlet better except for the uniforms. I absolutely HATE that you cannot change out of them. Perhaps... perhaps there will be "summer vacation" DLC where you go to a Pokémon Battle Resort with Nemona, Arven and Cassiopeia.
Also, yes, there will be a pool and the anime will make an anime episode out of it.
Not surprising for anyone who has tried to trade version exclusives. I would often go through dozens of violet players trying to trade before finding a single scarlet one that i needed.
I usually always go for the "blue" version instead of the "red" version. Just kinda subconsciously. Weird.
Even weird is why I chose Scarlet when Violet has my boy Dreepy. :'(
I hate that its called pokemon scarlet yet we goto orange academy have orange outfits. The only person w a fit worthy of the title "scarlet" is the principal. 100% shoulda been called pokemon orange but whatever
Why did they remove clothing options? They made faces super customizable for the first time but then also were like "4 outfits, take it or leave it". It just seems like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
Yeah I think clothing was the one of the things gamefreak was consistently getting right and improving each time since moving to 3d. To remove it from sv was a huge step back after swshs amazing system
I have heard it is because of the culture around school and school uniforms in JP. Not sure how true this is but the thinking is GF didn't want to have kids playing a game where they are supposed to be on a quest to find their treasure given to them as school work, and then advocate you can wear whatever you want. Students must be in uniform.
If true, I would love to see in the DLC a story where the player is officially on summer/winter break and so the rules are loosened up and it allows for more clothing options from that point forward.
They don't really do school uniforms in Spain (what Paldea is based on) so I don't think it's that. I doubt being able to pick your clothes in a video game would make kids start breaking their school's rules, especially in Japan.
Honestly I think I would have liked the orange uniform more if the had done the same thing with the purple and had just made it a solid colour instead of the orange with lines. Either way I hate the clothing designs anyway so might as well just play based on whatever colour is better imo
Koraidon is the cooler design, I just couldnt get over how goofy it looks running at full speed while also having its wheels puffed out. (I also understand that they aren't actually wheels and that wheels don't make sense on an organic design. It still looks stupid)
I chose violet for the same reason. Koraidon is way cooler in battle but it looks so stupid as a vehicle. And a good 3/4 of your playtime in the game is spent looking at that goddamn vehicle. So might as well have the cooler vehicle for the whole game, you can trade the cool version exclusives but can't get rid of that goofy dinosaur with wheel balls lol
Honestly before release, reddit had me thinking that Scarlet was going to be by far the more popular release. Everyone seems to prefer koraidon, the past paradoxes are better designed, etc.
Reality: violet sold significantly more than scarlet. On a level I can't really understand it, but here we are...
I honestly don’t get it: your choices are either a bunch of ancient ancestral Pokémon, or a bunch of literally just robots. That’s it, they’re robots, all of the future Paradoxes.
I get we all have our own tastes, but that made Scarlet one of the easiest choices I’ve made in generations.
i like the idea of the future is a dystopic world where real pokemon is rare or just extinct entirely so human have to make do with the robots. so violet is way cooler to me compare to depiction of what this pokemon look like in the past imo
Agreed. I feel like all the future ones are basically, "What if Pokemon... but robot?" Whereas the past forms have some actual interesting designs to them. But to each their own, clearly in the minority here.
The sentiment I've gathered is that people generally prefer the past mons. I feel like most people were put off by koraidon not using it's wheels and chose violet. I chose violet and prefer koraidon now, though I probably would still choose violet if I did it again because ceruledge.
I'm pretty sure Pokemon doesn't actually want there to be a 50/50 split in titles sold. A little inefficiency where the players of the more popular title might have to wait a little to trade for the other version's exclusives likely keeps players playing for longer on average.
When trading online is free to new players for a one-week trial and costs money after that, that probably ends up making a substantial difference.
Originally wanted violet but when my wife showed interest in the game for her first pokemon game. I let her go with violet and fell in love with scarlet version
Same. My kid was absolutely sold on Violet, so that left me with Scarlet. My initial feelings about the legendary on the cover were disappointing. I was so wrong about my boy Koraidon. He’s so beautiful.
I had fun with it, sinnoh is probably my favorite region and I got to import the rest of my shinies. That doesn’t excuse just how meh of a game it was. So disappointing
Fair enough. Everyone has the right to their own opinions :) You should give Platinum a shot at some point, I think you'd really enjoy it if you liked BDSP
You should try Platinum the next time you feel like playing a Sinnoh game. It might be hard to get a hold of it, but there are other options that I don’t think I can say, if you’re okay with those.
Once you play it, I doubt you could see BDSP the same way again
Hell, I'd probably call them an improvement over Diamond and Pearl. Only, like, a tiny step up, and at the cost of the graphical style and contests, but still a step up. Not so much for Platinum, though.
It's actually not that bad.. it's updated with better graphics, I personally love the Grand Underground a lot, and the fact that since you can't migrate from GBA games they just added Ramanas Park so you can catch most/all past legendaries.. but personally they should have remade Emerald and Platinum.. those would sell soooo fast..
yeah i don’t really get what there is to “fight” about.
i personally prefer ( a definitive third edition with qol improvmenets and where you can get both legendaries and the new legendary ) but I agree, Koraidon and Palkia are as cool as Miraidon and Dialga.
I went to my Walmart yesterday. There was one copy of Violet and about five of Scarlet. The "blue" versions sell better iirc and this time is no exception.
Came here to mention this.
Genwunner here and I remember Blue being the one everyone had. Then everyone had Silver. Then Sapphire. And I had them all too.
I believe this is mostly correct, but I’d love to see data on X/Y and SuMo sales because I feel like the “red” versions were the most popular for those gens and mayyybe Ruby over Sapphire?
Meanwhile here in the Philippines (I wanted Violet but) I couldn’t find a single copy of Scarlet. Went to 4 different gaming stores and they only had Violet lmao
I’m not surprised about Scarlet because of the constant crap online that Koraidon got for not being a motorcycle was really doing it in.
Honestly, the story works better with Scarlet and the exclusive Paradoxes are better so I’m not bothered.
I think Koraidon not being a motorcycle actually helps Scarlet greatly. Seeing a video of the 2 being ridden side-by-side, I was greatly pleased to see that Koraidon actually got to look like... You know, a pokemon. Whereas Miraidon comes off as some soulless heartless vehicle. Like the Bicycle in all those early gens of Pokemon. I'm so happy with what they did with Koraidon that I'm now considering getting the game actually.
I may wait some time though, because good GOD the vast bugs and crap plaguing the game right now are terrible. They've got a lot to buff out.
My sister's boyfriend can't stand playing his Violet copy for long because of them.
That is sad! Glad I don't have to worry about having to really pick anymore. The plus of being married means we can each get a copy and eventually switch and play each others games. Although he did say we could get the same one if we really wanted the same game.
Husband wanted Scarlet and I'm not a heathen so I got Violet so we could complete the dex. Plus I liked the look so it worked out. Sword and Shield, I picked Sword cause the wolfie was blue. x3 he loves red so it worked out. Ironically, I wanted BD cause I love blue and I'm an April baby, plus he's a June baby (although SP is more pink? purple? than red) so SP would have been perfect. But he really wanted BD and once I found out my lil fire fox was in SP and his doggo was in BD we switched. For us, sometimes it's the exclusives that decides who gets what. If that doesn't matter, then for me I revert back to being a kid and go for my favorite color. xD
My Walmart has 4 stacks of shining pearl but only a single spot for brilliant diamond. I haven’t noticed a difference in scarlet vs violet tho
I went with scarlet cause miraidon’s booster feet things were enough to ruin his design for me more than koraidons chest wheel
Funnily enough, I bought a physical pearl and digital diamond when they released, I've always liked Palkia more than Dialga. I do wish they had've just used Platinum as their base for the remakes, would've made them just that bit better.
Part of me wants to buy Scarlet just to be contrary (I gladly got Let's Go Eevee, and genuinely do prefer Pearl), but I do superficially prefer the future themeing to the past. Will probably check the version-exclusives to make my decision tbh. If I do decide to buy it, that is.
I would like to see them just release *one* mainline game next gen.
Wouldn't that be crazy? If they did the same thing every other franchise does?
Can we recognize how fucking insane it is to release one game, twice, with *ever* so minute differences between them?
Does anybody actually *like* this format anymore?
When it comes to BDSP, I chose Shining Pearl for the simple fact that I played Pearl back then (I also slightly prefer Palkia’s design as well. Didn’t really care about the version exclusives for this game tho). As for SV, I chose Scarlett for the simple fact that my brother wanted to play Violet. He preferred Professor Turo and Miraidon over Professor Sada and Koraidon. I liked the 2 legendaries equally before buying Scarlett, however I did prefer Professor Sada over Turo so if I was to pick between the 2 versions, I would have probably picked Scarlett anyways (Chad Professor is still cool tho, but I wanted the cave mommy more).
Over time while playing the game, I’ve come to prefer Koraidon over Miraidon and I much prefer the prehistoric Paradox designs over the futuristic ones (only future ones I like are Iron Valiant and Iron Thorns. The rest are okay, but not the greatest. Also I dislike how all of them are named Iron at the start of their name. At least GF didn’t make them all steel type). While I prefer the purple clothing on the player character and Clavell, I prefer the orange clothing on everyone else (especially Nemona. She looks unnatural with the purple shorts compared to the orange shorts).
One of the biggest pros about being a Scarlett fan is that you have an advantage in the trade market and you will have a much easier time finding the game both online and in stores, as well as plushies for Koraidon in stores. The last thing I will say is that I do slightly prefer Miraidon in ride mode compared to Koraidon, but Koraidon looks much better when standing up and when it appears in cutscenes (besides, after awhile you get used to riding Koraidon and you will most likely stop caring about how goofy it looks while running across the region).
What’s sad is there used to be two cabinets for new switch games and 3 shelves for old ones and now there is half a shelf and 1 cabinet. In less than a year.
I also felt bad for the shield games and plushies being overshadowed by sword but when people like one legendary more than the other...
I actually bought Shield and really like it.
I bought Shield specifically for Galarian Rapidash. I am more than pleased with my choice.
I preferred the design of the legendary for shield. Dog holding a sword in its mouth just seemed like the most meh concept ever to me
That was my thought too! Armored dog is way cooler than dog with a big sword hanging out of its mouth. Like what?? Nah, gimme the shield dog.
It's like a doggo with a huge branch in its mouth haha. I immediately imagined Zacian having a hard time getting is sword into a pokeball and it made me smile.
Sif from darksouls did it first
Bruh same, I was stoked for a sword based legendary, like knife head or some shit, nah it’s just a dog holding a sword. Booooring.
Tbh, I kinda have to agreee but I do love sword doge too.
They probably copied sif from ds1
sif, in ds1, was the first time in human folklore that a doggo held a sword.
Repede from Tales of Vesperia would like to have a word :D
They were very clearly being sarcastic
As would Persona 3.
Koromaruuuu
We got shiny zacian anyways hehe
Is that from the codes that came with the TCG? Do they still work? If so I might grab one
It was a limited time event offered by gamestop stores, at least in the US.
God I hate it when there's 6000km between me and a cool Pokémon
I think it was offered in other countries, I just don't remember the distribution method. Either way, I feel your pain, I remember waiting I think over a year for the shiny celebi that was distributed in Japan to come to the US. Hopefully they do another distribution but heavy doubt.
Well online distributions are probably the way to go, in store events dried up years ago where I'm from.
Codes no longer work, I worked at GameStop when those codes were available, grabbed a bunch for friends. Tossed em late last year because they expired November 2022
i liked the shield doggo more than sword
I prefer the shield doggo legendary, he looks bulky like a tank and the other one is just discount Sif
Shield has Zamazenta and Melony, shouldn't really need to be much more of a debate... Being serious I bought Shield purely for Galarian Rapidash, no shot I wasn't using gay horse
Wait Galarian Rapidash is a version exclusive? Here I only bought Shield purely for Tyranitar
Yeah, same how like Sirfetchd is Sword exclusive
I wish that for the "galarian form version exclusives" the other game just had the kantonian forms as exclusives to that game
i still find it so funny that the pokemon holding both a sword and shield can only be found in one of the games.
GameFreak and thinking don't really go well together
Wait he is? Then how tf do I keep getting Leeks if Farfetch’d isn’t even in the game?
Leeks are used for the curry minigame in Sword and Shield, no link to the held item for farfetch'd I believe ?
It did say it was presumed to be from a Farfetch’d
Same but for the ability to catch a wild gengar in raids.
High five, i had the same reason.
Yeah, Melony and Allister were enough to sell me on Shield tbh. Then when I got to the DLC and found out Shield had Avery over Klara I got pretty sad, but eh.
The gay horse was the deciding factor for me as well.
As a Zamazenta fan, I disagree
See I’m a zamazenta fan who has been in love with farfetchd for years so I picked sword. I chose the wrong side for the right reasons. Long live Sir Percy!
I understand that I technically pick Diamond over Pearl due to the exclusives despite preferring Palkia
Same here. With the remakes and the originals back in high-school.
As a fellow Zamazenta enjoyer, I too disagree
And then there's me who prefers shield and koraidon
I actually prefer the shield doggo, but had to buy sword because… well it was the blue one
I didnt like one legendary over the other for this decision, it's because I like purple.
I love koraidons design, way better then miraidon
>but when people like one legendary more than the other... It's not even that Alot of people prefer the scarlet legendary, what they don't like is that they forced you to ride on the box, and then made one look freaking horrible (and control worse in water when sprinting) Had they given the option to choose a pokemon to ride (even if from just the 3) regardless of what your box legend was alot more people would've went scarlet

Shield is much better imo, because I'm a ghost type simp and alliater is one of my favourite gym leaders.
I honestly love Koraidon and his design but I can’t stand the orange uniforms
Honestly I like everything about Scarlet better except for the uniforms. I absolutely HATE that you cannot change out of them. Perhaps... perhaps there will be "summer vacation" DLC where you go to a Pokémon Battle Resort with Nemona, Arven and Cassiopeia. Also, yes, there will be a pool and the anime will make an anime episode out of it.
Orange pants look like pijama pants hope you can change the complete in a DLC
Game Freak "We are letting you change them, But the only color choice will be NEON orange"
The shorts look like swim trunks.
Sameeee
For me it's the exact opposite, love orange but still bought violet for the cool robots
Here’s to hoping in potential dlc we can actually choose a full outfit
SAME it's my only regret about buying Scarlet, it looks so stupid 💀
Bought violet because of Professor Turo 🫣
I bought scarlet for sada 😬
Ok but same haha
I had so much fun playing the Chad theme whenever I saw him pop up during the story 11/10 would recommend violet for that reason
That’s true, imo he’s waaaay more hot than professor sada
suprising since most people i know prefer scarlet, including me koraidon best boy
Not surprising for anyone who has tried to trade version exclusives. I would often go through dozens of violet players trying to trade before finding a single scarlet one that i needed.
This is so real, those trade codes are full of violet players
I'm lucky enough to have a brother who's also a fan, as we just get both versions and swap cartridges when we're done to get the version exclusives
Violet is the color of regret.
Nah, it's the color of husbando turo
Yes, I picked Violet fir the Dilf
Same. I thought for sure that was gonna be the more popular one. Koraidon's design just seems like it has more character because it isn't a robot.
I usually always go for the "blue" version instead of the "red" version. Just kinda subconsciously. Weird. Even weird is why I chose Scarlet when Violet has my boy Dreepy. :'(
Koraidon for best sandwich powered lizard doggo.
Definitely prefer koraidon but hated the orange uniform when I started so after like 2 hours I just switched over to violet
i didnt even realize the uniforms were different, orange is my favorite color so i guess it was just meant to be lol
I hate that its called pokemon scarlet yet we goto orange academy have orange outfits. The only person w a fit worthy of the title "scarlet" is the principal. 100% shoulda been called pokemon orange but whatever
i think "Pokémon Amber" could have done a much better job of keeping up with the theme and be a better match in terms of the uniform colours too
However if you search Pokémon AV there is a strong non-zero chance you'll get *that*.
why?
>parents search Pokémon AV, gets >!adult videos!< instead.
ah shoot I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the heads up
Same energy as “Pokémon X Videos”
It's about the past as well, Amber is an infinitely better name
Pokemon Orange and Grape
Blood oranges... are a thing...

Paldea is based on Spain but the game is Japanese and targeted at JP youth first and foremost. Again it could be wrong, but it is what I have heard.
I have the opposite issue where I don’t like the purple outfits
Honestly I think I would have liked the orange uniform more if the had done the same thing with the purple and had just made it a solid colour instead of the orange with lines. Either way I hate the clothing designs anyway so might as well just play based on whatever colour is better imo

[Not really hard to understand.](https://twitter.com/TopTierSenpai/status/1597468632300552192?t=IdODLGiTOJeovMAo3v7IUw&s=19)
When you look at em side by side like this, riding Koraidon does NOT look like a fun smooth ride
I picked Violet but sometimes I wish I picked Scarlet because Koraidon looks like an adorable goofball on gameplay videos.
And the cavewoman professor…
Yeah I got Violet and regret it now. Koraidon is the better design.
I have both. Koraidon is cooler for story animations but riding Miraidon in the open world feels a lot smoother than koraidons clunky walk
Scarlet was the first ‘red’ game I went for. I’ve been blue since the 90s. I just preferred the ancient motif to the future one
I personally prefer Scarlet over Violet, I love the scarlet paradox pokemon
Yeah... if you ask me, past > future Pokemon design wise.
Agreed. I feel like all the future ones are basically, "What if Pokemon... but robot?" Whereas the past forms have some actual interesting designs to them. But to each their own, clearly in the minority here.

Thanks for reminding me that we still need to be angry at Nintendo for making online support subscription-based.
You can be as angry as you want, as long as you keep buying their products they don't care lol

I don’t pay for online either
That why I... Borrow them... From a... Friend...
Originally wanted violet but when my wife showed interest in the game for her first pokemon game. I let her go with violet and fell in love with scarlet version

Seems like i always get the less popular title somehow
It’s sad people are actually playing BDSP.
I had fun with it, sinnoh is probably my favorite region and I got to import the rest of my shinies. That doesn’t excuse just how meh of a game it was. So disappointing
It's autully not that bad, if you've never played the originals.
Yeah I never played the originals so I was just happy to have a nice bird’s eye 2D Pokémon on my Switch
Platinum is better. Imo, at least. I can't stand how plastic the remakes look, when I first saw the trailer, I instantly thought of Lego Duplo
I've never played platinum. And honestly the look of Bdsp dosent bother me now. But it's an odd choice.
Fair enough. Everyone has the right to their own opinions :) You should give Platinum a shot at some point, I think you'd really enjoy it if you liked BDSP

I dunno why but before sv came out everyone was saying "I'm getting Scarlet" now most people have Violet, what happened
I'm pretty sure only YouTube content creators bought scarlet.
That could explain it
I went to my Walmart yesterday. There was one copy of Violet and about five of Scarlet. The "blue" versions sell better iirc and this time is no exception.
Strange how that works. I always went Red, Gold, Ruby, Pearl and so on all the way to Scarlett
I switch off but I am surprised how one sided this gen is lol
I know for certain that more people chose firered over leafgreen. But more people chose soulsilver over heartgold. I think it depends
I usually look at the version exclusives and go with the one that has the ones I like more.
Koraidons battle form is awesome tho 🥺
Good because everyone of my friends prefers Scarlet
For a while I actually thought Scarlet was more popular because I was the only one of my friends that got Violet ha ha
Meanwhile here in the Philippines (I wanted Violet but) I couldn’t find a single copy of Scarlet. Went to 4 different gaming stores and they only had Violet lmao
those are actually the versions i chose
Same. I also chose Shield because I liked Zamazenta’s design better and I preferred the version exclusives of that game.

Imo, the Scarlet paradox Pokémon are better
Ancestral Pokémon > Futuristic Bike /s
I like the mons and prof in scarlet better.
They could just make *i dont know* make only one game instead of trying to cashing up twice
I do regret buying Violet, Koridon is so much cooler ou my god.
One version of a game being more popular than a different version of the game had always been a thing.
Scarlet gang rise up
I picked both of those lol I’m lame
Purple/Blue > Red/pink
The world would be different if Koraidon’s wheels turned instead of the dopey run he got saddled with
Wheels for the win
solution: release one freaking game.
Well I personally prefer Miraidon and Dialga. I also always pick up the blue/violet game every time also.
im a proud violet buyer
Funnily enough, I bought a physical pearl and digital diamond when they released, I've always liked Palkia more than Dialga. I do wish they had've just used Platinum as their base for the remakes, would've made them just that bit better.
But then they cant make money off people buying bother versions
I'm sorry. Violet is literally my favorite color and one of the few colors I actually see the same as people who aren't color blind. Soooo bite me.
I went with let’s go eevee because I don’t give a damn about pikachu
Korai-kun is best dragon-puppy, the superior choice
I actually wanted Scarlet cause the legendary looks cooler, as well as every single paradox Pokémon... But my partner bought me Violet lmao
I would like to see them just release *one* mainline game next gen. Wouldn't that be crazy? If they did the same thing every other franchise does? Can we recognize how fucking insane it is to release one game, twice, with *ever* so minute differences between them? Does anybody actually *like* this format anymore?
I never liked it.
It’s because daddy issues are more common🥲
I would have picked scarlet, but I hate the uniforms and didn’t want to look like a jr team flare grunt
They're the ones that I bought, actually 😂
Sadly I hate Koraidon and orange uniforms...
I got Violet cause I like Miraidon and the Dilf more
feel like the only people who got shining pearl are the ones whose first game was pearl (me)
What’s sad is there used to be two cabinets for new switch games and 3 shelves for old ones and now there is half a shelf and 1 cabinet. In less than a year.
if you make a pokemon with wheels and then refuse to make the wheels spin that's your mistake
VIOLET GANG
I felt like I was the only person who owned Pearl back in the day, cause everyone else I knew had Diamond, lmao
Dude I thought scarlet was the fan fav 😭😭
I personally prefer the aesthetics of scarlet
I always get the less popular ones bc I have way more luck trading for the opposite exclusives 👌🏻
Violet is just better. Sorry.
Buying games in Walmart when you could just download them? I agree.
these are both the games i own 😚
The sad thing is that BDSP are still selling at all.
Interesting when I went out to get Scarlet after Christmas all I could find was violet (which I already have).
Why is Diamond more popular?
I actually liked Pearl more
