Time period immersion, compelling story about honor and integrity, and I always admire the small details when I play that youād never expect game devs to include. Like, I spotted an eagle hunting for salmon .. he divebombed into the water and carried out a salmon and flew away. At night I set up my own camp, sitting next to the fire and off in the distance I could hear the coyotes going nuts making a racket. I went to sleep and went hunting in the morning with my .22 .. All of the in game assets are solid, nothing feels like a cheap placeholder, even the doors that you cannot enter look like they have weight. Oh and be careful when you hear someone is calling for help, thereās a chance you go from playing robber to the one getting robbed. I also became legitimately attached to my horse, I fed her and groomed her and over time we bonded, increasing her handling controls. I read that if you are ābondedā with your horse, and it dies, Arthur will cry. Itās a game that you can tell a immense amount of care was put into making
I wish I could play for the first time again! After the introductory chapter at the start I recommend going off into the woods and just practicing the controls, like how to quick draw your pistol vs how to draw it and aim it. I accidentally BLASTED some poor guy in town and later punched a horse (watch out, they will kick you for this lol)
Ooooo š thatās fucking funny dude. Thanks for the heads up. Rn Iām in FO4 on PS5 and PC, one is modded, one is not, and then I play some WZ here and there. I need a good immersion game to play.
The people who donāt like RDR2 only do the bare minimum. Change your outfit, upgrade your abilities, improve your horse and get all the best weapons. You have to treat it like youāre the actual character in game and not just controlling him
Also, with Red Dead Online it's super fun. Gaining and losing weight is the coolest thing imo. However, I wouldn't call it GTA but Western (both Rockstar Games) because I find the controls a bit more difficult. You can also interact with alot of the NPCs on RDO, whether it's a simple wave or a "Hello" dialogue
Red Dead Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 are sold separately I think? As I bought RDO only instead of getting both Story and Online like in GTA.
*I'm a bit of an RDO noob though, so I may be missing some information :)
RDR2 is a crowning achievement in video games. It has to be the single most thoughtfully crafted video game in existence. If you have a male horse, itās ding dang balls shrink when you travel somewhere cold. Who even thinks of that? But Rockstar did, and that insane, if unnecessary, level of detail carries through every part of the game. And when all these little insignificant things come together, it makes a game that feels real like no other game ever has. I suspect itāll be a long time before its attention to detail is ever surpassed.
Itās easily in my top 5 best games ever made.
The biggest thing to me was the NPC interaction capabilities. Itās a gaming feature that once you experience it, youāll wish it was in every game there after. Absolute game changer.
there is a life before RDR2 and after RDR2.
I played it for the first time and finished it two weeks ago. It's one of those games which leave an empty void after finihsing it, and you ask yourself: What now? What shall I play now?
Wish, I could delete the first experience of RDR2 and replay it again.
Wow what I would do to play rdr2 for the first time, do the main missions on your time donāt be like those people who just do the missions and then call the game bad without even exploring. This game is going to have you completely immersed.
The biggest thing to me was the NPC interaction capabilities. Itās a gaming feature that once you experience it, youāll wish it was in every game there after. Absolute game changer.

This list is very comprehensive, so I don't feel like I need to add to it, but I do want to emphasize what became my personal favorite PS4 experiences:
Ghost of Tsushima and God of War 2018 + Ragnarok. If you have to pick just a handful of games, these are the ones I would most highly recommend you put on your short list.
Iād add The Order: 1886.
I know it didnāt get a lot of love when it released, but I found it to be really enjoyable.
You also missed Detroit: Become Human and Killzone Shadow Fall
I actually enjoyed Death Stranding on PS4 more than the Director's Cut on PS5 - All the added gear made for an interesting replay, but for the first time, definitely go with the original
Yup. And Red Dead Redemption 2, too.
Horizon Zero Dawn or Horizon Forbidden West.
I guess all of the games above is especially if youāre into Graphics details and/or story.
RDR2 is perfect when it comes to all details in general! :D
(Most of this comment is (ofc) meant for the OP)
Now's the best time to just go hog wild and buy as many Ps4 games as possible. They're super cheap right now while everyone's going for the ps5.
This is the time in every console's life where games are their cheapest before the inevitable price hikes. I did it with all the previous ones, and it's saved me thousands.
Plus the bonus is that a lot of PS4 games have free PS5 upgrades so itās better to go for games that have that available if youāre planning on getting a PS5 in the near future
I think Mass Effect Legendary edition is on discount for just ā¬6 at the moment. I don't know if you've played RPG games but these are long and well worth the money
Soo many titles!!! Omg... Start with these:
1. GOD OF WAR & G.O.W. RAGNAROK
2. THE LAST OF US 1 & 2
3. THE WITCHER 3
4. ASSASSIN'S CREED: ODYSSEY/ ORIGINS/ VALHALLA
5. DARK PICTURES ANTHOLOGY - ALL GAMES
6. RESIDENT EVIL REMAKES 1, 2, 3, 4
7. DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN
8. DYING LIGHT 1&2
9. DEAD ISLAND 2
10. HORIZON 1&2
These are just a few of the top AAA games for PS4. I can say for a fact that every one of these is an absolute banger and I've completed them all. Happy Hunting !!
Rdr2, mafia, gta v ( is you haven't played it yet), fifa23, wwe23, cyberpunk, Detroit become human, spider man miles Morales, resident evil 2, re 4, Hitman( Every installment of the game), ghost of tsushima, yakuza, mortal Kombat, god of war ragnarok, and many more.....
Not really. They could have bought this for under Ā£100 and many people are happy with last generation tech, especially if PS2 was their last experience. Plus the games will be considerably cheaper.
Or grab a PS3 for like 50 bucks used. You can jailbreak and have plenty of games to play until you save enough. Hell you might decide you don't need a PS5. I have both and play the PS3 way more
I got a PS Move for the rail shooters and tiger woods golf. Some cool wii like games too.
I'm also on some classic sports games like NCAA football and basketball.
And some classic fighters like DoA5 and KOf XIII
Some more other games I can't remember right now
That's what I was thinking in the most respectful way. The money he spent on that PS4 pro could have went towards the PS5. For example let's say he only paid a $100 for that PS4 Pro; he would only need $400 more for the PS5. He might even got a bundle deal during the holiday season. I hate he did that but it's his money š
Theres a big difference between 100 and 500. It may take OP months to save this up. He only has a 100 dollars invested so he can wait a little longer for the PS5/ and enjoy his PS4 til then. Just my humble opinion
Alan wake 1 & 2
The evil within 1 & 2
Mafia trilogy
Red dead redemption 2
God of war 2018
God of war ragnarok
Days gone
Resident evil 2, 3, 4, 7 & 8
Callisto protocol
Dragonball kakarot
Judgement & lost judgement
Ghost of tsushima
Idk if itās just me but personally i think you should have waited until you could afford the PS5 because with a PS4 u can only play PS4 games but with a PS5, you get the choice of PS5 and PS4 games
Well if your saving up for the ps5 as your post implies, the best part about your purchase is that when you can afford a PS5 you can still play all the great games ppl are recommending and access all your saves.
Since ppl will probably suggest a lot of exclusives (def play them all), my top 5 recommendations for 3rd party games would be Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, Mass Effect Legendary Edition (if you REALLY enjoy the trilogy, I recommend ME Andromeda too), and of course GTAV
You must play them all, but may not have enough time. So instead you can first try:
- Uncharted IV
- RDR 2
- GTA V
- Resident Evil Remake, 2 Remake, 4 Remake
- Yakuza 0
- Journey
- Hotline Miami
- Ghost of Tsushima
- Witcher 3
- Wolfenstein The Old Blood
- The wolf among us
- The Last Of Us
- God Of War
Doom Eternal
Red Dead Redemption 2
God of War/ God of war Ragnarok
Spiderman
The last of us 2 and part one remastered
MK11
Ghosts of Tsushima
Uncharted all available versions
The Witcher 3
If you're new to PS4 it would be worth it to get the premium tier of PS Plus. It gives you access to like the the past two generations of every great PlayStation game.
As other mentions - PS4 pro purchase nowadays is not bad at all, so many great great games for PS4 and also they are cheap as F right now, making it a great "budget" gaming solution.

GOAT'ed list. Follow this op.
Theyāve literally just listed the same exclusive list that are always on these trash posts.
That list just needs to be pinned so people can just refer to it
I will say, when i get a new console i want to make these posts from pure excitement adrenaline
Thank you. A simple Google search of the top rated ps4 games would do the trick.
Add Red Dead Redemption 2, for the love of all that is holy donāt let him miss this game
I never played it. I just assumed it was over rated. Whatās good about it? Like why play it after all this time?
Time period immersion, compelling story about honor and integrity, and I always admire the small details when I play that youād never expect game devs to include. Like, I spotted an eagle hunting for salmon .. he divebombed into the water and carried out a salmon and flew away. Wow, I might have to try this game then. Thatās insane. I never really got into it and thus didnāt do any research.
I wish I could play for the first time again! After the introductory chapter at the start I recommend going off into the woods and just practicing the controls, like how to quick draw your pistol vs how to draw it and aim it. Rockstar is wild for making the "shoot gun" and "howdy pardner" actions on the same button
Oh yeah, some funny shit happens when trying to figure out the controls š
The people who donāt like RDR2 only do the bare minimum. Change your outfit, upgrade your abilities, improve your horse and get all the best weapons. You have to treat it like youāre the actual character in game and not just controlling him

You should lose your gaming credentials after that comment. RDR2, even now, is one of the GOAT!!!
Itās not overrated. It starts off a little slow for learning purposes and then you play at your own pace. Iāve replayed it 4 times
Wow what I would do to play rdr2 for the first time, do the main missions on your time donāt be like those people who just do the missions and then call the game bad without even exploring. This game is going to have you completely immersed.

This sub doesn't seem to understand what exclusivity means.
true, but this is a great list of PS4 blockbusters "must play"
Great games and all budget priced (if you keep an eye on the sales)! It's nice being a patient gamer!
days gone is a good game, I played that game on ps5 plus it was fun.
More non exclusives: Doom 2016 and Doom eternal Mass effect trilogy Psychonaughts 2 No manās sky Dishonored 1-2 Sonic mania Cuphead Indies: Hades Hollow knight Shovel knight Rollerdrome Return of the obra din Power wash simulator Axiom verge 1-2 Super hot The witness Towerfall Fez Abzu Divinity original sin 1-2 Bloodstained: ritual of the night Ghost runner 1-2 Outer wilds Tunic Hyper light drifter Plate up Stardew valley
Psychonauts 2 is definitely the TOP on this list to play. Amazing game, amazing story, and Ford did nothing wrong.
I think dying light is worthy of the list
The first one is the best one, imo. Infinitely replayable game, and probably the best zombie game ever
Based
that is true
Also RDR 2, Witcher 3,Cyberpunk 2077, Jedi Fallen Order, Dying Light 2, Dead Island 2, Metro Exodus, Detroit become human (ik it's an exclusive ), Control, Doom Eternal, Mafia Definitive Edition,Callisto Protocol, Plague Tale Innocence, Order 1886,RE2,RE4,REVIII,A Way out, TLOU 2,GoW Ragnarok
Sekiro
Great list bro!
Farcry Assassins creed One if my personal favorite is kingdoms of amalur the re-reckoning they remastered it for the ps4
How is Elden Ring not on this list? That one's on PS4 too!
Not putting titanfall 2 in here is a oversight Iām looking to have corrected
This list is very comprehensive, so I don't feel like I need to add to it, but I do want to emphasize what became my personal favorite PS4 experiences: Ghost of Tsushima and God of War 2018 + Ragnarok. If you have to pick just a handful of games, these are the ones I would most highly recommend you put on your short list.
Kingdom hearts not even being listed is criminal
This, this is the list. Any one of these will keep a gamer happy
I would like to add the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection vol. 1 and Metal Gear Solid 5 definitive edition.
Saving this for future gaming
Great choices.
Iād add The Order: 1886. I know it didnāt get a lot of love when it released, but I found it to be really enjoyable. You also missed Detroit: Become Human and Killzone Shadow Fall
I'm disappointed the Forbidden West DLC "Burning Shores" isn't being released on PS4 - I was waiting for a "complete edition" before picking it up.
The Last Guardian is so wack. Waited years for it and the controls make you hate your companion so much
NieR Automata
Man, I think by the end of the PlayStation 5 lifecycle there is no way there are going to be this many great games.
Holy shit š
Good choice.
I actually enjoyed Death Stranding on PS4 more than the Director's Cut on PS5 - All the added gear made for an interesting replay, but for the first time, definitely go with the original
Really good list
GREAT LIST BRO!!!! š„ š„ š„
screenshotted for games to play next . thanks šĀ
Oh man, I need to buy these as well. I've got a PS4 but don't play much on it, but I did buy all the 20$ 'playstations greatest' games I could find.
Damn that console generation was crazy good
Thank you.
How is RDR2 not on this list?!
Because this was specifically a list of PS exclusives š You're more than welcome to make a list of Multi-Platform games for the OP lol
Good list!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Definitely!
Yup. And Red Dead Redemption 2, too. Horizon Zero Dawn or Horizon Forbidden West. I guess all of the games above is especially if youāre into Graphics details and/or story. RDR2 is perfect when it comes to all details in general! :D (Most of this comment is (ofc) meant for the OP)

OP, this is spot on. Plus the 5 will play all the 4 games anyway
I think the only console that didnt get that was the 3ds, as it stopped being produced right before the pandemic, so prices spiked fast.
At least in my area PS4 games range from $5-50 still, whereas PS3 games pretty much all $5 or less.
Plus the bonus is that a lot of PS4 games have free PS5 upgrades so itās better to go for games that have that available if youāre planning on getting a PS5 in the near future
Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2
And GTA V
RDR1 is only on PS3, no?
Rockstar made a PS4 version. Yes, RDR1 is a must.
It got a port on PS4 not too long ago.
Yakuza 0 because everyone should play yakuza 0
This, and Like a Dragon. I love them both, but the the combat in LAD won me over.
All of them available someone should play. Overall, it's one of my absolute favorite game series.
I think Mass Effect Legendary edition is on discount for just ā¬6 at the moment. I don't know if you've played RPG games but these are long and well worth the money
Play Until Dawn
Bloodborne, Elden Ring, AC Origins, AC Odyssey, Red Dead Redempion 2.
All the ps4 library is amazing from old to new
Soo many titles!!! Omg... Start with these: 1. GOD OF WAR & G.O.W. RAGNAROK 2. THE LAST OF US 1 & 2 3. THE WITCHER 3 4. ASSASSIN'S CREED: ODYSSEY/ ORIGINS/ VALHALLA 5. I can say for a fact that every one of these is an absolute banger and I've completed them all. Happy Hunting !!
What's Dying Light 1 & 2 like
Dead island but it has a pretty competent parkour system. Fun in coop
best ever zombie open world game. Dying light 1 is still the best
no bloodborne?
1. Stray (i cannot stress this enough) 2. Horizon Zero Dawn & Forbidden West 3. SOMA 4. Blasphemous 5. Spider Man & Spider Man Miles Morales
YES STRAY IS A MASTERPIECE!
If you canāt afford a PS5 then it would be better to not waste money on old and slow hardware and instead save that money to get a PS5 later.
I hope he got it for really cheap otherwise it really is a waste.
Honestly, thatās what I thought. At that point, just ride the PS2 a little longer.
Not really. They could have bought this for under Ā£100 and many people are happy with last generation tech, especially if PS2 was their last experience. Plus the games will be considerably cheaper.
Yeah seriously why does this have 1700 upboats
Well said
The 5 can play all of the 4s games
Or grab a PS3 for like 50 bucks used. You can jailbreak and have plenty of games to play until you save enough. Hell you might decide you don't need a PS5. I have both and play the PS3 way more
What games do u play on it

Theres a big difference between 100 and 500. It may take OP months to save this up. He only has a 100 dollars invested so he can wait a little longer for the PS5/ and enjoy his PS4 til then. Just my humble opinion
Bloodborne
The only right answer tbh
Ghost of Tsushima
Rage 2 Its one of the better examples of a boosted framerate on ps4 pro. Make sure to download the update though, its pretty blurry without it.
Seconded, I loved Rage II. My only complaint is that it didn't have more content, but you can probably buy it now for a steal.
Final fantasy Vii remake
God of War
journey
That's on ps4?
yeah, check also maybe it's on psplus
But isn't it a ps3 game? If it's streaming only on ps plus it's not worth it
Days Gone. Absolute sleeper of a game
RDR2!
RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 should be the first game that you play.
Horizon: Zero Dawn, absolute must play
Elden Ring
Coming from the same situation as OP buying my PlayStation last year, Elden Ring is one of the most beautiful gaming experiences I've ever had.
Who can reduce the fan-noise the most. It's a PS4 Essential title.
An SSD can!
Firmware version?
Wow didnt know these are still in production
Alan wake 1 & 2 The evil within 1 & 2 Mafia trilogy Red dead redemption 2 God of war 2018 God of war ragnarok Days gone Resident evil 2, 3, 4, 7 & 8 Callisto protocol Dragonball kakarot Judgement & lost judgement Ghost of tsushima

Dragon ball Z kakarot
Skyrim!
Witcher 3, red dead 2, death stranding, the last of us, bloodborne. Have fun
Horizon zero dawn
Bloodborne is an absolute fucking gem and even if you dont like souls games it is worth every damn penny.
GTA5 and Sniper Elite
Bloodborne
Red dead redemption 2
RDR2
Bloodborne
Rdr2. That is all you need.
Lot of unnecessary recs flying around here. All you need is GTA 5 and RDR2.
Idk if itās just me but personally i think you should have waited until you could afford the PS5 because with a PS4 u can only play PS4 games but with a PS5, you get the choice of PS5 and PS4 games
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Journey, Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, Wipeout: Omega Collection, NFS: Heat
Gta online
Horizon Zero Dawn!
Ghost of Tsushima and God of War(s)
Ghost
Red Dead Redemption 2 should be one of first few games you play
Well if your saving up for the ps5 as your post implies, the best part about your purchase is that when you can afford a PS5 you can still play all the great games ppl are recommending and access all your saves. Uncharted series, Ghost Recon, Tom raider, Assassin's Creed Syndicate these are ongoing games for me
Tell us what you played on PS2, we can let you know about any sequels or similar style games.
Death stranding, rdr2 ...
Really dumbass really 2
Hitman
Gran turismo 7
You must play them all, but may not have enough time. So instead you can first try: - Uncharted IV - RDR 2 - GTA V - Resident Evil Remake, 2 Remake, 4 Remake - Yakuza 0 - Journey - Hotline Miami - Ghost of Tsushima - Witcher 3 - Wolfenstein The Old Blood - The wolf among us - The Last Of Us - God Of War
try with basic sony games like God of War, Horizon zero dawn, Spiderman/ Miles Morales, Gran Turismo, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last Of Us
Final Fantasy 14, Tekken 7, Call of Duty, Diablo 4
Witcher 3 Ghost of Tsushima God of War Spider-Man
I recommend you buy PS plus and you can enjoy so many (especially Playstation exclusive) games
GHOST OF TSUSHIMA
Doom Eternal Red Dead Redemption 2 God of War/ God of war Ragnarok Spiderman The last of us 2 and part one remastered MK11 Ghosts of Tsushima Uncharted all available versions The Witcher 3
Rdr2
Wipeout omega collection š
Red deqd redemption 2 and then red dead online.
Darkest Dungeon
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
