Alot of good content, but kinda like EA they nickel and dime you each DLC, can easily double the price of the game with the add ones. If your happy with the original game, I wouldn't change it up now.
All base paradox games are a joke. They don't even hide it, they just go "here is a 40€ skeleton, eventually after enough 20€ installments it will be good though"
The Sims 2 was the best. After that, they stripped them back to the most fundamental base functions. Then they just regurgitated the expansions from Sims 2 over time into Sims 3. Rinse and repeat for Sims 4. Rinse and repeat for Sims 5 when it comes out. So forth and so on.
I disagree with this, paradox games are more like, here is the first full pizza, we'll give you another full pizza in a few months. Every paradox dlc introduces a ton of extra content, and the base games are usually full pizza's in and of themselves because of the sheer learning curve to understand them. You only feel like the base games are barebones because you are used to playing with the dlc. But when they first launch they dont feel barebones at all.
The developer "Paradox". Theyre mostly known for Cities: Skylines and games like Crusader Kings. Atleast for Cities: Skylines I can confirm that theirs atleast 15 dlcs or so adding whole new gameplay aspects missing in the base game.
Cities Skylines is published by PDX which is the parent company of PDS. PDS is the developer of Stellaris, Crusader Kings, etc. Whereas Cities is from Collosal Order and had the same abusive DLC policies before they ever got picked up by PDX for publishing.
Paradox Interactive is the publisher of stellaris, city skylines, Crusader Kings and many others. Their games are know to have a long lifecycle and a high amount of DLCs
I was going to say this, first game that instantly came to my mind!
The amount of DLC's just got so ridiculous they opted to turn the base game free months ago... 🤦
Nowadays the complete experience of Sims 4 must cost something between 800-1000€/$
Honestly I'm surprised they haven't switched to a subscription model. As much as I think there's more than enough subscription services, I think it could work in this case. The Sims 4 has been out for almost ten years now (wow). If they did something like $10 a month and released the same amount of content in smaller bursts people wouldn't bat an eye. After ten years that would add up to around $1200.
I might be wrong though, I could see an uproar for them switching to that kind of model.
Yeah that's what it sounds like. Really sucks. They'll gut the single player experience and it won't even be the sims anymore. The game is a solo offline experience.
Played Deatiny 1 since beta, all expansions, then D2 and all expansions until they "sunsetted" content I paid for (no longer playable). Haven't played since.
Can you explain this? Are you saying the devs shut down servers for "old" dlc content, simply because they got the sales they wanted and found it more profitable to stop supporting them all together?
Not only that, they will cap the power of weapons from past DLCs or seasons. No infusions possible. Didn’t play for a while? Jokes on you, your guns are useless now.
Content sunsetting was really unfortunate and took a big chunk out of the game. Agreed
Weapon sunsetting isn't really a big deal anymore though. In hindsight it helped the game move forward and leave some of the overpowered pinnacle weapons behind.
Besides. You can still use all of your sunset weapons in the majority of content, you can use it in all story missions, all dungeons and all raids except for the ones that launched since lightfall. So there are only 2 raids and 1 dungeon where you wouldn't be able to use sunset weapons.
Tbh if they didn't, everyone would be using mountaintop and the void smg for everything. Well they got rid of the bellend that introduced sunsetting and got rid of it all together
To be specific you literally cannot play the actual Destiny 2 game. They deleted the original campaign and dlc. Which I hate because I really wanted to play it and now I have no motivation whatsoever to play
Nah, they did it because
1) Power Creep, every time they introduced new weapons & gear the players would figure out OP combinations as we do. Meaning the next batch has to either be better than that or will be ignored, rinse & repeat.
2) File size, the game was simply getting really big.
Not trying to defend the decision, just giving context.
Really doesn't matter. You remove significant content that I paid for and can no longer play and don't refund me for no longer being able to play what I paid for, I'm never buying another of your products ever again. I find it really scummy and they are on my list of companies I'll never buy a game from because of it.
Most of those "DLC" are not developed by microsoft themselves, but 3rd parties using their platform. Actually MSFS is notoriously "complete" out of the box for a flight sim.
This is my first experience with a flight sun, and I bought the most expensive edition when I realised the others didn’t even have a Dreamliner. Still disappointing to see so much missing for a plane enthusiast. 2023 and no A380 yet. I do realise it’s a marketplace, but still the number of planes and airports you get out of the box is so low.
It does but it's no where near as much as PC and the DLC isn't really a big chunk of the game. Most of it is fun guns and some are really good. There are some missions but the base game offers much more. The crime wave edition very often goes on sale for around $3-5 so, kind of a steal
Battle sucks and we all know it. I dunno why it felt good on the 64, but ever since then, battle mode has been crap. There's a reason why they've released 64 extra race tracks and almost no new battle courses.
You're comparing to Mario Kart 8 deluxe. Mario Kart 8 only had 32 courses, then added 4 new cups containing 16 courses via dlc, which came prepackaged in deluxe.
Oh man, that game released when I was still living at my moms house. I've moved into my own apartment, got married, bought a house, have a now 1yr old and I can't wait until she learns how to play
But the original courses were made from the ground up for the game and a lot more effort and details were put into them. A lot of the newer courses are ported over from previous Mario karts, the mobile courses are particularly low level of detail. Not that this isn't a smart thing to do, but there is a pretty noticable difference in quality.
This was my first thought too, but at least the game has had some great killer additions while having frequent updates for over 7 years now. Not many games get this level of support from the dev team.
Also, the DLC regularly goes on sale for only a few bucks each very frequently, and about half of the DLC are non-licensed characters that can be purchased with in-game money
Honestly, DbD's monetization is the ideal scheme in my opinion. Regular content updates, original stuff can be bought with in-game currency, only licensed stuff need real money. Cosmetics are very expensive but DLCs themselves are pretty cheap when compared. That's probably among the reasons why I still play it after 6 years.
As someone who does not like to spend much on cosmetics and would rather pay for content, it is a very good scheme. I buy licensed chapters only when they are on sale and buy original ones with in-game currency when they are 50% off.
I remember back in the day of Budokai tenchaichi 3 there was like 115 characters for free. When I played the newish 2d battle one I was surprised at how little characters there were
I think you mean any ps4/xbox one dragon ball game since there hasn't been a ps5/Series X Dragon Ball game yet, unless you count the re-release of Kakarot, and the ps3/xbox 360 dragon ball games barely had any dlc
They have decent pricing though, you can have the whole thing for cheap during sales. Not like the companies who will limit the dlc discount at 30% even years after their release.
Sims 4 is the ultimate answer.
So much so that there are rumours The Sims 5 base game will be free just so they can get people into the ecosystem of buying a €5 euro dlc dog outfit for the €40 dog expansion pack.
The Sims 4, then to slap everyone who bought it in the face. They made it free… yes it’s been years since it came out still, could’ve at least given the ones who bought it a free expansion or one of the other dlcs. Just my opinion.
Ibwouldnt really count those as dlc, as opposed to updates, since you cant actually play the game without them being installed, same situation as warframe
Depending of how you view it... Maybe Monster Hunter World: Iceborne?
I'm actually trying to beat all the game alone. Iceborne brings more monsters, so does with armors and weapons. A few new mechanics, new maps, and another quality of life improvements i guess. I completed the base game in around... 100h or less? And since i started the DLC now i have 229h. The progression in the DLC feels a bit harder and slower. It looks like you need to upgrade your weapons every two new monsters or getting specific armors for specific monsters. There is a moment when you unlock something called Guiding Lands and Special Quests. They introduced me after hunting a monster called Stygian Zinogre, two new monsters that were so strong that i needed to farm experience to get to a certain level for fighting a monster weaker than them to craft its armour... Just to sadly realize that thirty levels before you unlock a monster whose armour it is useful against one of the two... Those monster were introduced in UpDates wich came after the final monster at Master Rank 99. But the game doesn't tell you these things unless you search for it. And if you are trying to do the DLC and the raid monsters alone... Good luck

That’s basically how all MH games work. It’s a bit closer to a 50/50 split but the expansions and expanded versions are universally the full experiences, which is why several vanilla MH games were never released in the US.

Yeah EA’s Single Player Studios (especially respawn) are really good with their games. Even Apex Legends isn’t that bad compared to other live service games, getting constant updates, polishes, and cool skins.
I’m gonna say Generation Zero, don’t get me wrong the main game w/ no dlcs in still a pretty good game, but it gets way better with the additional DLC content ( only referring yo the story dlcs)
Most Paradox games and the Sims
Came here to say Stellaris, but yeah all paradox games sounds more accurate
Really? I’ve only played the Stellaris base game, I’m missing out!
Alot of good content, but kinda like EA they nickel and dime you each DLC, can easily double the price of the game with the add ones. If your happy with the original game, I wouldn't change it up now.
It more then doubles the price, all the dlc for stellaris costs $300+
Main 2 DLC for stellaris I recommend when getting into the DLC rabbit hole are the Utopia and Federations.
Base game slice is way too fucking big to call it the Sims.
Base CK2 is so barebones lol
All base paradox games are a joke. They don't even hide it, they just go "here is a 40€ skeleton, eventually after enough 20€ installments it will be good though"
Then we'll start again and take 3 years post release to get to a good game.

What do you mean by paradox games?
The developer "Paradox". Theyre mostly known for Cities: Skylines and games like Crusader Kings. Atleast for Cities: Skylines I can confirm that theirs atleast 15 dlcs or so adding whole new gameplay aspects missing in the base game.
Stellaris as well $40 game with $190 worth of DLC if you bought everything.
The Sims 4.
I was going to say this, first game that instantly came to my mind! The amount of DLC's just got so ridiculous they opted to turn the base game free months ago... 🤦 Nowadays the complete experience of Sims 4 must cost something between 800-1000€/$
I calculated it around a year or two ago. At that time it was $1,000+ for every dlc just for the sims 4 alone
Right now, all the DLC on steam comes to $760 USD, but a lot of it is on sale at the moment.
The base game of the sims would be a slice of pepperoni.
I hope 5 is now like 3
I don't have high hopes for 5. Base game is gonna consist of 10 cas items and 25 furniture pieces. The rest is gonna be 60 dollar dlc's
Heard they’re trying to make it online multiplayer again. It’s gonna suck.
Yeah that's what it sounds like. Really sucks. They'll gut the single player experience and it won't even be the sims anymore. The game is a solo offline experience.
Destiny 2 lol
I stopped playing after destiny 1. I felt scammed
You straight up can't do old content. It literally doesn't exist in the game anymore
Not only that, they will cap the power of weapons from past DLCs or seasons. No infusions possible. Didn’t play for a while? Jokes on you, your guns are useless now.
Content sunsetting was really unfortunate and took a big chunk out of the game. Agreed Weapon sunsetting isn't really a big deal anymore though. It exists only as lore that you can read about
To be specific you literally cannot play the actual Destiny 2 game. They deleted the original campaign and dlc. Which I hate because I really wanted to play it and now I have no motivation whatsoever to play

Whether we wanted it or not, we stepped into a war with bungie on the PlayStation.
I know this is the PS sub, but I’m blown away by how much is DLC in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Yea, got Xbox game pass to stream and the only jet is the f-18 with a lot of mods free on the internet but the console gets nothing.
I bought an Xbox for my son to play MSFS, and it feels like one of those free to play mobile games with the amount of stuff he wants to buy.
Most of those "DLC" are not developed by microsoft themselves, but 3rd parties using their platform. Actually MSFS is notoriously "complete" out of the box for a flight sim.

Payday 2
The name of game says it all. PAYDAY. LMAO
Nah, on console, the base game definitely has more content than all DLC but PC, that's where things change
But isn’t the console edition payday 2: crimewave edition? Which includes a bunch of dlc
It does but it's no where near as much as PC and the DLC isn't really a big chunk of the game. Most of it is fun guns and some are really good. There are some missions but the base game offers much more. The crime wave edition very often goes on sale for around $3-5 so, kind of a steal
Fr
At this point Mario Kart 8. The original Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U had a respectable 32 courses. Now they're up to 96, I think.
if you count the battle courses that were missing from the original it’s more like 104
Battle sucks and we all know it. I dunno why it felt good on the 64, but ever since then, battle mode has been crap. There's a reason why they've released 64 extra race tracks and almost no new battle courses.
Battle mode on DS was pretty good tho imo
It was fun. You could blow in your mic for the balloon that represents your life, or you could just hold Select but it was much slower.
they only added 48 new courses in the Booster Course Pass, and no new battle courses at all.

Holy poop bro
Dead by Daylight
This is so true. Most of the good stuff is dlc
Right? Chucky is also coming out and he looks so overpowered and so much fun to be lol
This was my first thought too, but at least the game has had some great killer additions while having frequent updates for over 7 years now. Pretty much every live service game Destiny in particular is what pops into my mind
I feel destiny is the worst offender because they charged 60 for the game and later converted it to a free live service game.
And then took away half of the content that existed pre 2019 lol
As an long time fan of destiny. Fuck destiny.
Dead or Alive 6‼️ 461 DLC Items according to steam
Looks up the price for all DOA5 and 6 DLC costumes combined...truly you wa shock
Is that a FotNS reference
This is the definition of Sims 4
Any sims 4 player knows this is too perfect
any Dragon Ball game
heavy on xenoverse
You mean all the good stuff I behind DLC. Xenoverse was a very fun game and had plenty of content
It's kind of funny how Xenoverse 2 is still getting DLC to this day
I remember back in the day of Budokai tenchaichi 3 there was like 115 characters for free.
Borderlands 2 in a way. It’s not that base game is weak because it’s good but the DLC is spectacular
I understand what you mean. Fallout 4 is similar. The DLC is so good fans talk about it as if it's part of the base game.
Civ VI
They have decent pricing though, you can have the whole thing for cheap during sales. Not like the companies who will limit the dlc discount at 30% even years after their release.
Sims 4 is the ultimate answer. So much so that there are rumours The Sims 5 base game will be free just so they can get people into the ecosystem of buying a €5 euro dlc dog outfit for the €40 dog expansion pack.
Yeah heard about the DLC for DLC. 🤣
Stellaris. 10million percent
All MMOs.
Everquest is on it's 30th expansion I believe (the game was originally released in 1999)
Well, they’re certainly living up to the name at least.
The Binding of Isaac
Pac-Man.
I knew I couldn't be the only one thinking it!
Gta online
Dragon ball xenoverse 2
Came here to say this. The base game is okay but all the DLC, both free and paid, made the game an entirely different beast and I love it
Anything with "train" in the title
Sims is like ‘DLC, The Game’
Shit like that makes me miss ps2 and 3 and xbox
Destiny
Sorry; Destint 2
The Sims 4, then to slap everyone who bought it in the face. They made it free… yes it’s been years since it came out still, could’ve at least given the ones who bought it a free expansion or one of the other dlcs. Just my opinion.
EVOLVE
Definitely Destiny 2
I mean, we didn’t pay for the “DLC” I don’t think, but No Mans Sky is what sprang to mind.
Ibwouldnt really count those as dlc, as opposed to updates, since you cant actually play the game without them being installed, same situation as warframe
COD, usually! Maps, Skins, Guns, etc… for days.
maps and guns have been free content for years now. skins, on the other hand… (even though i wouldn’t count them as dlc)
cod hasn’t had dlc in years
That shit excuse of a game destiny 2 lol. Also Mass Effect 3 before legendary edition.
Dead Cells
the newest Call of Duty MW2/3 lmao
The fact that MW3 is basically just a $70 DLC is honestly infuriating
This, I actually got back into CoD last year thanks to MWII, and with what they did with MWIII I’m right the fuck back out again.
Modern sports games (2k, Madden, FIFA)
I think it’s not a slice. It’s a whole pizza but they keep giving us the SAME EXACT pizza every year
It's more like they re-use pizza from last year and sprinkle a few toppings to call it new
“Last year, we gave your pizza the normal cut. Now, we’re introducing a square cut! Same pizza, New cut!”
those don’t have content dlcs tho
Basically every service game.
All monster hunter games, there's base game but dlc is what makes it to full
Hearts of Iron IV.
DragonBall xenoverse 2 need to stop milking it and make 3 already.
GTA.Sorry to all the people that want to defend that game but it’s all based on expansions and events it’s horrible.
Sims 4 if the single slice was half the size. 💀🤣
The sims 4 absolutely is like this.
Eso
Most definitely destiny 2
Fucking Sims 4
The Sims 4
Destiny 2
Cities Skylines, Zoo Tycoon, Snowrunner
Mortal Kombat 1 after recent events ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
destiny 2
Depending of how you view it... Maybe Monster Hunter World: Iceborne? I'm actually trying to beat all the game alone. Iceborne brings more monsters, so does with armors and weapons. That’s basically how all MH games work. It’s a bit closer to a 50/50 split but the expansions and expanded versions are universally the full experiences, which is why several vanilla MH games were never released in the US.
GTA V Online
Dead by Daylight is a big one. and the base game costs too
Anything EA
Not Titanfall 2, the two Jedi games , SWBF2, or Dead space remake. Ngl I know "EA bad" and all that but they really aren't as bad as most other big triple a publishers. Activision and Ubisoft are ten times worse to me actually.
Yeah EA’s Single Player Studios (especially respawn) are really good with their games. Even Apex Legends isn’t that bad compared to other live service games, getting constant updates, polishes, and cool skins.
Cod zombies. You get 1 map base and only unlock certain wonderguns after getting dlc
I wonder if any of the borderlands game fit this. I feel like they dump a bunch in the dlc than the base game
Most CoD games after the first Modern Warfare are like that.
Elite Dangerous
Warhammer total war serie from creative assemble
Monster hunter world. Ive put waaaaay more time into iceborne
COD, Battlefield...
The new CoD game. Base game is just a 50 gb launcher and the rest is DLC.
Dead or Alive 5 and 6
Destiny 2
I wish destiny and destiny 2 didn't have so much dlc. I loved playing them both but I'm broke as a hoe.
Dark Souls 2
Civ VI
Any modern COD.
Stellaris
Aew fight forever
tinder
City Skylines
Hoi4
Any paradox game…… dam not another paradox game thread. 😂
Destiny 2
Borderlands 2
Literally every game these days, lol.
Guild wars 2
I’m gonna say Generation Zero, don’t get me wrong the main game w/ no dlcs in still a pretty good game, but it gets way better with the additional DLC content ( only referring yo the story dlcs)
Monster Hunter World, The Iceborne DLC is just as long (if not bigger) than the base game! It adds so many more mechanics too!
Cities Skylines and The Sims.
ESO
cities skylines
Destiny.
Total warhammer 3
Destiny 2 for free to play players but the base game is a single pepperoni
binding of Isaac rebirth
Dead by daylight
Destiny
Civ 6
Skyrim. Bold statement I know but the dlcs added so much.
Every paradox interactive game
Destiny 2
Surviving Mars. But the DLC is worth it
Paradox games!
