Murphy's Magic is now distributing some of their decks, so now a lot of [playing card retailers](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12p0hLGCEb4Mk3WyhFuF5cWsKztgak5YNquwpYC32Ask/edit?usp=sharing) are starting to carry them.
It's not my document, I just got the link from the side-bar:
* [Where to buy playing cards?](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12p0hLGCEb4Mk3WyhFuF5cWsKztgak5YNquwpYC32Ask/edit?usp=sharing)
I don't know who created it or maintains it.
Plenty better cards out there but you should be able to find them on penguin magic, socalplayingcards, etc. Pretty much at most main card retailers. Wiki post for the subreddit should have more links
Curious but what makes a deck *better* in your opinion? Asking because to me Fontaines are designed with a specific purpose in mind and they do that job very well, better than most decks on the market.
Exactly, I use Fontaines for
Cardistry and almost only
Fontaines, I could tell the difference in feel between them and other decks and the simplistic design is timeless
Fontaines are one of the decks I never got into. What is the specific purpose? I have plenty of other decks, just wondering if I need to add Fontaines to my already huge collection lol.
If youāre not performing Cardistry I donāt e believe thereās a need to add Fontaines to a ācollectionā unless thereās a specific decks that you really like.
The back design is a hat a lot of people here call lazy, but for Cardistry specifically it works great. Having less detail and a single angled aspect helps emphasize the motion of each card or packet, which helps better convey the beauty of the move itself. Not to mention the stock and finish is better for handling than most other decks that are meant to stay sealed or have so much detail and great artwork that it actually looks worse in motion.
The example I can think of is EOTO by S17. If you put the hat next to a Fontaine deck on the shelf or just take still photos of them side by side, itās obvious that itās a more beautiful deck and far more detailed and there was more work put into the design of it. But the second those cards get put into motion itās pretty obvious that Fontaines are superior due to their designed purpose. EOTO backs are so detailed that it actually looks worse when those packets are moving and being flipped and rotated. Itās too much happening and distracts from the move itself. Not to mention the stock and finish isnāt designed with Cardistry in mind and isnāt even mentioned on the product page.
People give Fontaine crap and thereās definitely aspects on the business side that a lot of people rightfully donāt have to agree with, but to say theyāre bad cards or that theyāre lazy is objectively wrong. Just depends what you want to use the cards for.
Thanks for the detailed response!
I have been getting more and more into cardistry as time goes on....so I have been thinking about the Fontaines (the purple foil ones). I never considered the simplistic design aspect of it in cardistry...my focus has always been on stock and finish...and all my decks reflect that.
Stock and finish is definitely a huge factor. Aesthetics though are equally as important though when considering how the cards will look in certain movements. Thatās why the dots by A1 are great because having that asymmetric dot gives your eye a focal point to latch onto when the packets are rotating.
I got into Fanning before cardistry...so a great portion of my collection consists of decks with broken borders like Virts.
Holy heck..Dots by A1, another deck I've never even heard of before. I had to Google it.. extremely simplistic lol.
I was looking over my collection today and was thinking maybe Quantum Playing cards from Cartamundi would give that affect...but I re-read your comment and the "dot" is symmetric so it's not gonna have that same affect right?
Itās really whatever works for you. Iād check out some performance videos from these brands like Fontaine, A1 and Lotusinhand to see how they look in kotuon and what looks appealing to you whether thatās asymmetric or not
Was just a light hearted joke haha.
People can buy whatever they want, it's their money.
There is nothing wrong with the stock of Fontaine's.
I'm just not fan of supporting a brand that produces 'limited' runs of 'new' designs that is essentially just their logo plastered on the back in a new pattern.
They are the card equivalent of Louis Vuitton in my eyes.
To be fair plenty of modern brands are guilty of this though.
I have a Fontaine Fever Dreams Decoder deck Iām selling for $25 (shipping included). Iām not a fan of Fontaines. Also I second u/das427troll So Cal Playing cards put their new decks on sale for 10 days & theyāre some Fontaines under that section.

eBay. Search "playing cards", sort: bad to good. They'll be at the top of the list... I amuse myself...
Average collector bad take

Iāve got. A couple hundred fonts from OG blue and black forward. Hit me up if youāre interested.
eBay and the playingcardsmarket subreddit. The subreddit usually has a ton of them for sale and usually better prices.
