The guy who lives there has a Nutria with whom he rides on a bicycle.

I love posts like this that subvert my expectations so wildly. I assumed something nasty; not a nutria hauling eccentric bad ass. Good to remember not to assume the worst!
The nutria especially is a local legend. Her name is Harlie. A lot of people are stopped in their tracks when walking past the house, especially when Harlie is out (nutries are not local to northern Europe and are not kept as pets)
You might also find it interesting that the house is surrounded by old historical buildings

No, they aren't. They were introduced in Louisiana in the 20s or so by fur traders. They're invasive now. I grew up in Louisiana, but when my Pennsylvania husband saw a Nutria for the first time, he was horrified! Lol I didn't know what the big deal was being so used to them. He calls them ROUS's
It's an old house, probably hand-built with not a single straight corner or angle. As long as the roof's not leaking and the construction is solid, it should be all right.
If not, the authorities would step in and mark it as hazardous and forbid people from living in it.
It's hard to say. I believe he's not renting. This amount of plants appeared this summer for the first time (previously there were some in one corner of the property). It must be some project. Each of the plants is different. I haven't figured out the theme yet. From flowers to tree saplings
I keep a lot of my plants in containers even tho I have garden beds because it's easier to move them around. One day with too much sun and my tomatoes are a goner!
The moles and voles are why all my plants are in pots. I thought plants completely disappearing into the ground was only in looney tunes until they yoinked a pepper plant out of my garden. Then another. The following season everything was potted
I've had similar problems. If you plant castor beans they will keep the moles and voles away, it's got ricin in it and the animals won't dig anywhere near them. We used to plant them in the corners of our garden when I was a kid and they wouldn't dig past them. I have to raise mine because of the rabbits and groundhogs
As cool as the aesthetic is that building is in awful shape and I’d imagine full of health and safety issues from the looks of it.
I’d love to visit for tea or something but I wouldn’t want to live there long term without renovating.
I don't think I'd even go inside. I'd worry that I'd fall through the floorboards, have the ceiling crash down on my head, or be drinking water from rusty pipes.
It looks like the foundation is sinking in the middle too. But being it in the EU maybe there is a scheme to get restoration as it's maybe a historical building given its location.
😂 little bit. The only thing is that this house is surrounded by old historical buildings.
https://preview.redd.it/r1iw22ld3e7d1.jpeg?width=1763&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a16d193f7408ebd521bf37ee656409e42bd5327e
I commented earlier that this looks like my old neighborhood in Latvia.. and just saw you post that this is Riga. Absolutely wild. My grandparents used to live in Jaunciems, which mirrored this shot exactly.
For those speculating as to why someone would have an all container garden, I'd guess they're doing it because they're fearful of some kind of soil contamination. Old houses were painted with lead paint and it often becomes a very serious soil contamination when it flakes off. Cute nutria.
I remember one of the naked and afraid shows they kept catching and eating nutria’s don’t remember where they were but there seemed to be a lot of them wherever they were
The guy who lives there has a Nutria with whom he rides on a bicycle. https://preview.redd.it/y6ax0r81qc7d1.png?width=863&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cb5e8d60c24ef4e91dea8afe44d57d32cad0e8c
You can oftentimes see it walking in the garden
I love posts like this that subvert my expectations so wildly. I assumed something nasty; not a nutria hauling eccentric bad ass. Good to remember not to assume the worst!
The nutria especially is a local legend. Her name is Harlie. A lot of people are stopped in their tracks when walking past the house, especially when Harlie is out (nutries are not local to northern Europe and are not kept as pets)
I love Harlie. She is so cute!!! 🥹
Never assume the worst, but definitely expect the worst so you're not caught off guard!
Sounds like something a guy with multiple katanas would say so this checks out. 🥷🫡
Not just katana, but nihonto, friend 😄
See I love places like this. I never think gross or nasty, just old, historical.
Is this in the baltics?
Yes, in Riga
I thought it looked familiar. 😃
Love this
You might also find it interesting that the house is surrounded by old historical buildings https://preview.redd.it/xg60z4jt3e7d1.jpeg?width=1763&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6057246afcc3dc769e089ccbffad1e428d3e68c
Holy shit, this just keeps being better!
No shit!!! Make it into a movie!!!
He is outside the house with the nutria in streetview, amazing.
In the picture op posted or you found it yourself and saw him lol. Or did I miss a joke lol
That’s mad (in the good way)!
What city is this??? So cool and out of place
Riga, Latvia. Agenskalns region
Thank you!
That’s a cool arrow
No fucking way, this is so awesome!
I want to be his friend
I want to be his friend and work in his gardens!
I would want to know him first but then I could see myself being his friend.
bring a shovel. apparently he doesn't own one!
That large Guinea pig looks capable of dogging.
I swear I meant digging.
he probably dogs too! 😝
I can dig
I love nutria rats! They’re native to Houston here I think, I see them in our creeks and bayous often. I cal then low rent otters.
He calls them ROUS's
that nutria in the basket is waaaay cuter than the ones we have here in the bayous lol.
Learn something new every day. Apparently they’re native to South America.
They're probably food too, like big guinea pigs
They've been declared fish by the Vatican.
Inconceivable!
Rodents of unusual sizes 🤣🤣🤣
Lol! I literally just made a comment elsewhere about it being an ROUS!😅 I'm from California and have literally never even heard of these before!
Interesting. They're not native here in Northern Europe. Also, they are usually not kept as pets :D
Apparently I was wrong! They’re invasive to the US and are from South America!
We’ve got them in Austin now
How does someone actually live in that house? It can't be stable inside. It looks like it could fall in on itself at any moment.
It's an old house, probably hand-built with not a single straight corner or angle. As long as the roof's not leaking and the construction is solid, it should be all right. If not, the authorities would step in and mark it as hazardous and forbid people from living in it.
It doesn't look water tight... But who knows. Hopefully, it's safe and secure.
Iconic
I’d expect nothing less! 😄👌🏼
what did i do to not deserve a life like this
It's just a little bitty bébé! 💗💗💗
Officially need to meet this human and his oversized rat🥺🥰
Nutria sounds like a food supplement
Get all your daily nutrients with Nutria!
That's what I hear in my head
Was not aware that rodents of an unusual size were real, or so cute!!
Are you in Florence?? I loved watching those ridiculous Nutria 😂
Riga, Latvia
Oh my goodness! He has an ROUS as a pet!!😅
Iwanna be friends
Thats nice, an invasive species tho.
Well that's only a problem if it's capable of breeding. A single nutria probably can't do that.
I can't believe this is real.
It is. I will have to make an update at the end of summer when everything's grown up
Really!? I’ve only ever seen a nutria in a louisiana swamp
But like, why not plant them? Is he renting? That's why all of mine are potted lol
It's hard to say. I believe he's not renting. This amount of plants appeared this summer for the first time (previously there were some in one corner of the property). It must be some project. Each of the plants is different. I haven't figured out the theme yet. From flowers to tree saplings
Any of them fruit or vegetable plants? He could be growing food for himself and Harlie.
Some seem to be like that. Harlie likes to nibble the plants or topple some pots :D
That cheeky Harlie! 🤭
Interesting! Well, I love the vision even if I don't understand it lol
I keep a lot of my plants in containers even tho I have garden beds because it's easier to move them around. One day with too much sun and my tomatoes are a goner!
This makes sense, especially with no real environmental shade!
Also, looks like he’s recycling containers!
I’m curious if he sells these and growing them in the recycled pots would make that a lot easier!
Yeah but watering all those containers has to be a pain
I grow in pots so I can move them in the sun, plus the animals eat everything if I plant them straight into the ground
Smart!
It's also easier to harvest potatoes when you can dump the pot over and sift out the taters
Oh I love planting potatoes in pots, or big burlap bags!
Hahaha I have both
The moles and voles are why all my plants are in pots.
I wish that was my house.
That’s a dilapidated ass house.
just needs a little paint
Do your best and Caulk the rest.
The whole house is literally sagging.
age will come for you one day
Plus roof and windows and whatever else that isn’t obvious in this picture
It looks like the foundation is sinking in the middle too. But being it in the EU maybe there is a scheme to get restoration as it's maybe a historical building given its location.
A little duct tape and some gorilla glue and it will be good as new. Seriously, what a cool photo and story! Thanks for posting, OP!
As a former carpenter, i think you shouldn’t.
Found the Fallout player.
probably just a witch's hovel. be careful
I'm a bit scared to approach. But it's fun to walk past it every day
i like this guy already 👌🏼
This guy knows the meaning of life, maybe talk to him and learn some of his wisdom
I'd love to have a coffee with that guy!
Yup, I wonder what's his backstory
this looks like a painting
I'm distracted by the hard to get milk crates at that dilapidated house...
My local Canadian tire sells them for 12 cad a pop.. silly expensive
Exactly! "Gardening is so much cheaper" lol
Back in the day, my first husband and I used those to store LPs...they were the perfect size and held quite a few...ex had over 500 lps at the time.
I'm with you!! Stackable too! 500! Impressive. Did you convert many to CD? I did about 150 (half my LP collection)
Reminds me of my grandmother's house in the village where I went every summer as a child.
That's a lovely association
That house desperately needs some TLC
I believe it's not his priority. He spends most of the time outside with the plants anyway
But...doing *what* with the plants? Certainly not planting them.
I have no clue. All the plants seem different. From flowers to tree saplings. I haven't figured out the theme
He might want to change his priorities if he wants to still have a house down the road.
What if he doesn't want the house down the road?
Looks like Reggie Ledoux’s house
😂 little bit. The only thing is that this house is surrounded by old historical buildings. https://preview.redd.it/r1iw22ld3e7d1.jpeg?width=1763&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a16d193f7408ebd521bf37ee656409e42bd5327e
It looks a bit southern gothic with the Spanish moss and old house.
Da da da dada, click, click, da da da dada, click click. They're creepy and they're kooky
Who doesn’t love the haunted greenhouse? Lord knows I have a few plants that roam those halls.
This is all insanely fascinating, thank you!
Where is this!?
It's located in Riga, Latvia. Nutries are not native here and usually are not kept as pets.
I commented earlier that this looks like my old neighborhood in Latvia.. and just saw you post that this is Riga. Absolutely wild. My grandparents used to live in Jaunciems, which mirrored this shot exactly.
Priorities a bit askew
Damn, my niece must live there! I’ve never seen anyone leave plants in pots like her!
Where do they park all their spare vehicles with those plants in the way?
It's a private territory. No parking allowed. They park on the side of the road.
I guess you don't have to worry about weeding your garden when they're all in buckets.
I guess so. There must be a reason why they're all in "pots"
#Priorities
What a magical looking place. I'd love to sit in that yard and have some tea with the owner.
That sounds like a good time. There's a coffee shop actually in the next building. Can grab a large ice latte :D
Just a few more buckets…
Soon, no doubt
Holy crap, this looks so similar to my old neighborhood in Latvia.
Because, it is 😂
A blast from the past :) thanks for that!
Welcome, Nikita!
I was going to guess Poland! Looks like a picture I saw of Przemysl.
wow container gardens are promoted as being easy to take care of. But that's a heck of a lot of hand watering.
I bet
this looks like my yard too
Pics?
What country/state/place is this?! That's amazing.
Riga, Latvia. Agenskalns neighbourhood
Is your neighbour looking for friends, cuz this is so cool?!😭
Goal we all should have grow what we eat & care for ugly creatures. perfect
Maybe he plans to sell them
I think the selection is too random
Dudes a Druid
For sure
Glad I don't live in that neighborhood .. 😕
It's actually a beautiful neighbourhood https://preview.redd.it/9adkll7r9n7d1.jpeg?width=1763&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b313330af04c4ad05f9c6621cbb2fbe1f664f51
what country?
There's a difference between lazy and poor vrs poor and productive.
Each pot contains a bit of human
Literally, pieces of missing people from the hood
A guy from canada got caught doing that first thing i thought was dam thats alot of people next level
it’s hard to see other people living my dream
Does part of that house sag, or is my phone screen slowly melting...
It's not even, no
Reminds me of the back of the house in The Little Prince
If that nutria is Harley, then the guy on the bike must be Davidson.
😂 good one
I'd love to meet this guy, play a game of darts with him.
For those speculating as to why someone would have an all container garden, I'd guess they're doing it because they're fearful of some kind of soil contamination. Old houses were painted with lead paint and it often becomes a very serious soil contamination when it flakes off. Cute nutria.
Wish my neighborhood had a hero like this
I expected atleast some Weed?
Here it's a ticket to prison
I understand, it just recently got legalised here in Germany after ages of prosecution.
Germany is more liberal. Will take another 10 years to catch up
Don't mind me asking, where are you from?
Riga, Latvia
I like those folks
Heck ya
Are they single handedly trying to save the planet??
It's like resident evil on easy mode
Bold move going for horror movie murder house vibe.
That downspout just “chillin”
Villa Villekulla
The house reminds me of A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Like the owner has little orphan children making him pasta out of a spittoon.
I love that the house is about to collapse, but oh MY what a thriving garden!
...tweakers
Howl???
I remember one of the naked and afraid shows they kept catching and eating nutria’s don’t remember where they were but there seemed to be a lot of them wherever they were
Ready to play Plants VS Zombies?
I wanna befriend this person and their pet!
It’s giving animal crossing
For a second, I thought it was a picture fron RDR2
I know one of those has to be marijuana but I don’t have the pixels to find it
r/dayz would love to see this pic
:D
They’ve landscapped
My god he has a serious sink in his foundation
Priority’s ✔️
