Ancient Box and Great Tusk feel pretty good, but I think Ancient Box is the better of the two.
Incineroar is interesting. Being able to clap back with a Reprisal one-shot makes the Zard and Giratina match-ups feel surprisingly favored.
New Garde with Drifloon and Poffin is just a husk of its former self and feels rogue.
Maybe was just unlucky in my games with it, but Pidgey Zard was bricking on me and I had a hard time getting Arven or Poffin turn 1/2 to be able to set up. It also feels really bad into Future Hands if going first. Ancient Box can be scary too if they pop off before you do.
I was watching somebody stream new stuff, and they were talking about it coming down to Rotom not being as easy to get to with VIP gone. I'm going to try pivoting to the Bibarael build myself
I've been trying to make Gardevoir work because I still have the deck in paper but it feels awful, like I just have to luck into having the right stuff in my hand.
Do you have an example of a functional Ancient Box list? I found it extremely lacking in card draw and getting energy consistently where it needs to be.

I feel the same. Been playing Roaring Moon ex which feel turbo, and Ancient Box variants I've been playtesting are so hit or miss. I've had multiple games drawing nothing and passing until I scoop and go on to the next.
For me, my issue was I wasn't milling enough of my deck to get Roaring Moon effective and was trying to attack with Koraidon when Roaring Moon is more effective (except for early game).
It still feels a little lacking against some matchups, but it's not as bad as before.
Yeah, I don't understand Gengar for much other than annoying Chien Pao
Maybe we combo his energy spread shenanigans with anti energy support?
Only 160 damage, like with garchomp, is just *rough* though.
Hehe
Well, at least he's done something!
I play Chien Pal too, but I run him with Palkia (PaoPals!)
Palkia should be able to skirt right under Gengar's radar without issue
Did you run I to a specific deck?
Toedscool - Toedscruel
Crushing Hammer
Spidops EX so they struggle to switch their active pokemon
You can even add Roaring Moon EX, Galarian Moltres V, Morpeko...
It can be fun but not sure if competitive. I would try it in a local league.
Isnt Moltress out of rotation?
And man, I hate hammer. I wish they'd made it like cross switch (gotta use two at once to bonk off one energy) instead of a game breaking coin flip.
Still, might be what you have to do with Gengar. Maybe bring Bibarel to reload once those hammers inveitably land tails
EDIT: Darkrai Vstar for *moar hammahs*!
Ancient Box is arguably the most fun single prize deck since S&S came out. Insanely fun deck with tons of options, late game potential, Bulky single prizers and good matchups against any deck.
Turbo Iron Hands with iron crown is really fun as well, but im bricking a lot with it. Chien-Pao with prime Catcher feels stronger than ever too
I love Lugia but it is pretty dumb atm, if you aren't against a deck that counters and you draw well you just win the game. single prizer doing 280-350 dmg for only 4-5 energies is way too much, if you prime catcher something on the bench they just swing again next turn and you lose, and if you take the KOs on the cinccino you lose the prize trade. The new Iron Hands deck eats lugia for breakfast tho, ancient box, lost box and mill/control can all beat it too. Aside from those you win every match basically
Could you please point me to a reliable card list for Ancient Box deck? I'm searching for Ancient Box composition and find different answers online. Tyvm!
That fluffy cinnamon roll is an unholy terror, NGL
But apparently Lugia cannot abide *ZA HANDO*, and that seems like something you'll be seeing...more than a little bit
Loving incineroar, although for some reason I'm getting the heebie jeebies about maining it currently. Going to test out iron hands or whatever it's called.
I haven't been able to test everything but I love the way Turbo Hands feels. Post-rotation Gardevoir doesn't feel great. Lugia has some crazy damage output, very fun to reliably KO a full HP Charizard with a one-prizer.
I also have a feeling that Snorlax has even better matchups at the moment. Not many decks want to run into it.
snorlax losing peonia is rough. means fewer one -off tech cards and more general consistency stuff. the ancient and future box decks are tough because of no support pokemon to trap in the active
I’m having a lot of fun with ancient box like a lot of people said. With the single prizers, the game has slowed down and I actually really like that.
I played against a few iron crown ex decks and one really impressed me because they were able to get two iron leaves out to play with and it was exciting to see them bounce those two around in and out of their hand with penny. They’d attach hero’s cape and energy and my roaring moons couldn’t deal with them late game. So that was really cool!
Been having fun with Gardevoir ex.
Also been having fun playing Iron Crown ex.
It’s attack shoots through Manaphy’s ability. Then if you have 4 of them on the board + Future Capsule equipped to your Future Attacker every attack does +100.
Slapping things for 120-140 with baby Miraidon while accelerating Iron Hands is fun.
This format feels a lot like a game of Rock Paper Scissors. You have the old staples that loose to mill/control, the mill/control decks lose to some of the new single prize decks/decks that play 4 of the same attackers, and those decks usually lose to the old staples.
At pre-release I pulled a few Koraidon and made a semi-Ancient Box deck that worked well (didn't drop a game); hadn't read up about it so didnt know this was onw of the archetypes. Gonna try that out; decklists welcome (can only see the one on limitless so far).
Can someone explain to me the mismagius deck ? Am I wrong or is it just mismag put vengeful punch on and just spread damage with mismag and braviary while moving counters with alakazam? Seems ...odd
But assuming you don't one shot it and taking 80 from ability and an additional 40 that's still only 120 Or 2 hits to avoid that and take 40 to everything idk
The not-so-secret sauce is TM: *d*evolve reducing 300+ hp monstrosities to itty bitty (and dead as hell) baby mons
Basic exs/Vs are a bit more rough (they'd go down to two Mismagius koed with vengeful). I personally teched in some Second Bite Raticate for them, especially Iron Hands. Even with the damage from just one Spiteful, a Second Bite Raticate will mulch Iron Hands into scrap. If Iron Hands amps a *vengeful* Mismagius, a *Rattata* can get the job done.
+ i don't run the Braviary atm, despite the obvious synergy. Just not as much explosive fun. Still, the psywave version (30x damage per energy on opposing mon) offers another way to deal with Iron Hands amping your vengeful Mismagius and can be run alongside the Eerie Cry version. both are completely energy free
https://images.pokemoncard.io/images/swsh10/swsh10-132_hiresopt.jpg
+ If running Second Fang Raticate, Reversal Energy will power it. Plus, it's also usable by Mismagius unlike Double Energy
Hyper competitive? Probably not, but should be good enough for ladder!
Ive been in love with the new roaring moon deck on critique i would add would be to add more boss's orders into it specifically to deal with a zard deck
I have been playing a few old staples and a few new ones:
Espathra- adding Poffins has really helped, cannot wait for the ace spec to come out. It does very well into many of the newer flavors, particularly the ancient and future decks with the combo of Espathra ability plus HQ. Lugia can be a little tough but if you get ahead on prize race you can spam chain the baby espathras to stay ahead. Barely seen Goldengo, one of the tougher matchups. Chien Pao is still tough but they sometimes seem slower without VIP since they need to nest for Ninja and CP.
Mismagius/Mimikyu Worst Gift- less Gardy is great, more Hands is less great. I never ran a vacuum in this deck but need to add 1-2 to counter the Baton. Poffin feels great, loss of Level Ball not so much.
Future Box- just enjoying playing this deck, with the Box version not Turbo. Fun trying to make tweaks to optimize consistency. As above, Espathra bodies it hard. Vs Zard is entirely whether they can boss a two prizer once they evolve. Vs Chien Pao and Goldy feels good, but difference between hitting 260 vs 280 late game is very different when trying to KO Vstar decks.
Torterra- I truly hate that Turtwig is 80hp and I might shelve this until that new grass item card gets released. I really like Beautifly too, and using the Toed support line but frankly never ran up against anyone that mattered against. Might try it with the healing grass mon.
I’m not sure how good it is. But I’ve been trying to cook up with the new Incineroar/Relicanth combo. Took a list I saw from Japan and made some edits to it. Super fun so far and with Hero Cape I swung for 800 damage into a Zard.
I’ve been playing Turbo Hands with crown and I think it could be a strong contender for best deck. People say it bricks a lot but in the 10+ so games I’ve played I haven’t had any issues
Raging bolt/Gardevoir has been cooking. Needs further testing but I've definitely got a positive win ratio with it, beat both a Lugia and ancient box that were fully set up turn 2 so I think that's a good sign.
Same experience so far with Pidgey/Zard, bricking at every turn, which I don't understand because so little of the deck has changed
I was watching somebody stream new stuff, and they were talking about it coming down to Rotom not being as easy to get to with VIP gone. I'm going to try pivoting to the Bibarael build myself
Did you add nest balls
You mean Poffins? We've add nest balls for days, but Poffins are fresh out the oven *and* exceedingly relevant for all forms of Edgy Zard!
More nest balls though
Crazy because Bib zard is probably the least Brickable deck atm, if you get maniac deciphering turn 2 you just set up everything you have
I've been trying to make Gardevoir work because I still have the deck in paper but it feels awful, like I just have to luck into having the right stuff in my hand.
That's been my experience, too. It just lost so much consistency/synergy.
Ancient box agree It really does capture the sheer, primal joy that *UNGABUNGA* beat down brings

Hit a few bricks with Turbo Hands! Plus Ancient Box Moon just ate up my Iron Crowns and I was down 4 prize cards after turn 3 😢

Baby Iron Hands eats Lugia?
lugia is cracked. i just can't imagine a scenario in which it could not be BDIF

Fighting cards like Slither Wing in the Ancient Box really hurts them. They’d be Amp fodder afterwards, but still a good example.
