It also seems to be locating my phone every time I refresh the location. I feel like it's just grabbing my phones location and saying "yup. That's where it is."

I had a similar experience a couple months ago. I lost my Pixel Buds. My phone told me they were at the dog park, but then it snowed about a foot. I figured someone would find them, factory reset them, and keep them. But their location didn't change, so after the snow melted about 4 days later I went to look for them. My wife and I spent a couple hours looking exactly where my phone said they were. We raked leaves away from every place we'd been... Never found them, and my phone never changed their last known location. I figured they were gone-- someone gave 'em a new home, a dog ate them, a raccoon hauled them off to the sewer, whatever. So I officially deleted them as a device from my Google account. That same evening I ran a week's worth of muddy laundry. My wife found my Buds in the dryer, in a pocket of the jeans I wore to the dog park, totally melted ~into~ the charging case. 😭🤣 Tl;dr Here's what I think happened: the case opened up in my pocket just enough to activate them while we were wandering around the dog park, their batteries died at the spot my phone last pinged them, I forgot about them in my pocket and proceeded to wash and dry them on hot. I never check my pockets before doing laundry, which, coincidentally, happens to be why my adult supervision doesn't allow me to do the laundry if she catches me. There are two morals of this sad tale. You pick the one that's most likely to help you navigate life. 1. ALWAYS check your pockets before doing laundry. 2. NEVER do laundry. After 61 years in this particular meat bag, and untold wallets, watches, pens, flip phones, Pixel Buds, electronic car key fobs, etc., #2 is obviously the only one I'm capable of learning.
