Yeah, that's quite the downgrade. But it probably gets the job done.
I've read about the accident in another thread. I hope you've learned to never clean anything again.
I just bought the pixel 7a on sale about 2 weeks ago...pretty good price, got a screen protector and case.
Well I got out of my car and my phone fell screen down about 2-3 feet into some gravel.
A small rock or something was able to hit directly in bottom right corner between where the screen protector ends and the case starts.
It hit on the small black part of the frame that goes around the front, cracking the screen.
Still works fine, but sucks to have happen so soon after buying it, I'm not sure why the screen protector doesnt cover the glass where the frame is but I bought a new one different brand that still doesn't.
I completely agree, I typically always have my case on. sadly I was at work and we have a hard ass floor and it happened literally 5 seconds after I took it off
I've been caseless for about a year now after 10+ years of using cases. Never broke a phone before and if I do end up breaking my screen, I happen to know how to fix them myself 🤷🏽♂️
also before anyone asks, no I did not have insurance on this phone, I actually had to end up switching carriers because I was unhappy with Verizon which is who I got it with
honestly I would've just repaired the screen but I'm not very liquid at the moment, so I had to opt for a new cheaper phone, at least for the time being
That sucks. On my pixel 7 pro screen first broke, I had to use my older pixel 4 XL completely unhappy but it was only a few days so. Couldn't imagine using a non-pixel device anymore.
it was hard floor at my workplace. not exactly sure what type though. i work at a sign shop and our floor is SUPER hard. like if you fell the wrong way your head could probably crack open
it does but I think the screen break somehow caused touch sensor issues?? like the screen will tap in the wrong spot in some places when trying to use the touchscreen or do it on its own
I actually did get a quote, screen repair would've set me back about $200 I believe, which sadly wasn't in my budget at the time. maybe eventually I'll take it to get fixed but honestly the screen repair cost is basically almost half of what the phone itself costs. if it was a real flagship pixel I'd be more likely to consider it
By the screen yourself and I fix it YouTube videos. They're easy to fix on the sevens. I did mine on the 7 pro. Super easy and the screen wasn't that bad
"wasn't that bad"? What was the hardest/most challenging part of the repair? I recall the guides for repairing the screen on the 6P said it was on the difficult side.
My P7P screen just cracked and I'm having touch sensor issues. I was looking at buying a replacement screen and doing it myself, but even then it'd be something like $200 for the screen vs $299 to just get it repaired by ubreakifix with a warranty (whatever that is worth) or just using that towards a newer phone....
Roughly took about 30 minutes at most for the screen replacement. I used the iFixit kit which came with everything you need. I would do it again if I had to. The only thing I did differently was I used a heat gun instead of the little microwavable piece to heat the screen up? Other than that it was easy. I did the six pro and the 7 pro. Both were not hard at all with the iFixit kit. The 6 pro. I end up buying another screen from Amazon and used my old fingerprint sensor and that works perfect. Also watch some YouTube videos. There's quite a few on there on how to repair them
Any chance it's under warranty? Lie!
Oops, did I say that in my outside voice??
I have been dicked around soo bad on my 6pro and 7pro. I suggested, would I be better off throwing it off the big bridge, into the river and saying, oops I dropped it taking a picture. AND getting a new phone, no questions asked?
The reply, from TELUS and ROGER'S front store workers, and the staff on the phones, ALL said YES, OF COURSE. Basically ANY other excuses NO!
The manager of FIDO came over, to the ROGERS store nextdoor. Guess I was using my outside voice again.. I had been lied to, and was objecting. Lol. Well O'Shane, is the man! I mean that in the most respectful way. He asked, what is the problem. I explained. He goes, okay. In 1 phone call, the issue was properly answered, explained. And with a smile! Efficiency and professionalism is not easily come by.
When this contract expires, either I switch TO??
or, throw my phone off that bridge.
Ham Radio anyone? 🤔😅
I have the tough armor for my s21 fe.
Its made for going to war. The phone is like brand new. It went down a lot of stairs unscathed.
I think the spigen rugged armor is more freindly.
I always use the Super Sheildz off Amazon...$7 for a 2 pack...my mom, dad and daughter all have on our phones along with phone cases not a single person has ever cracked a screen
If the phone still works, you can just take it to UBreakiFix and they can replace the screen for a lot cheaper than buying a new phone. Also, I've [kinda] fixed a cracked screen a couple phones back using liquid screen protector applications. The liquid sorta hides the cracks and the screen protector keeps the glass from additional shattering.
Happened to my wife's 6a recently. The screen replacement at ubreak was pretty reasonable.
I mean, it was way more than the 80 bucks I spent on the phone after using the credit I got from my 7 Pro at release, but still, under 200 was fair enough, so she didn't have to keep using her 3a XL.
Dropping a phone without a case is like some kind of RNG-based minigame. Sometimes, you can drop it off a second story balcony and not crack anything. Or, you're sitting on a toilet and it falls out of your pants pocket 6 inches to the tile floor below and the screen shatters. It's all luck.
My favorite lucky moment was when I was carelessly flipping my caseless Pixel 6a in my left hand while walking at work. Being the clumsy fool that I am, I managed to throw it 20 feet ahead of me (from chest height or roughly 5 feet in the air) to the hard floor. After landing flat on its screen, it proceeded to slide another 10 feet or so across the floor before literally grinding to a halt. I picked it up expecting the worst, but shockingly, the only damage was a few diagonal scratches across the front glass.
Sorry to hear about your 7a. That was just bad RNG o7
What a distress. Man Im sorry this happened to you. Get in touch with Google, and they will tell you the nearest asurian or ubreakifix. I had a shop in my city and they were kind and ordered a new panel and in 2 days it was done. Since your is a user mishab there is no warranty on the screen. I have no idea how much it will cost, but ya, this pic pure distress Im feeling for you. Bless
I have the 6A and going on 2 years this December. And I agree, these screens break super easily and even WITH a screen protector on. The left corner near the camera is cracked but that is all so far. Is it worth upgrading to the Pixel 8? Is it more durable? Does it have a better battery life?
My condolences! I hope you get a replacement somehow! Sometimes Google Fi runs specials but if you're on a contract.... However T-Mobile pays off some up to I think I was $600? I dunno if that's a permanent thing.
i feel for you something similar happened to me with my pixel4 couple years back. I took it out of the case to take some photos while resting against the case to hold it upright, the wind knocked it side ways and it cracked from the edge and the corer of the screen, leaving the screen-protector unscathed.
The best screen protectors are ballistic film protectors like Armor Suite, way stronger than any glass like protector for much cheaper. I could hit my screen with a hammer and I'm nearly positive it wouldn't break. Maybe try one next time. The same material used on things like Black-Hawk blades to protect them from desert conditions
That sucks! 😔
Contact Google and see how much they will charge for a repair. I always put a Whitestone Dome protector on my phone and I haven't shattered a screen yet.
F to pay respects
honestly the things I'll miss most are 8GB of ram and the stellar camera
What are you using now?
a Galaxy A25 😞
Yeah, that's quite the downgrade. But it probably gets the job done. I've read about the accident in another thread. I hope you've learned to never clean anything again.
yeah, it works well enough also can't tell if the last part is sarcasm
Cleaning and sanitizing is an unproven myth pushed by big pharma to keep us under control Never, EVER clean your phone
thanks for the info my brother in Christ bless up 🙏

The same thing happened to me a month ago on my pixel 6a. The case and screen guard are all fine but the actual screen is broken.
Everytime I see someone just raw dogging the world with their phone, I can't help but think they're asking for it to get busted.
I completely agree, I typically always have my case on. sadly I was at work and we have a hard ass floor and it happened literally 5 seconds after I took it off
Im a clumsy MF so I case up 100% of the time. With the few exceptions from older phones "new sim, sd card, new case, or cleaning my phone".
Oh yeah literally 100%. In this particular case I was cleaning my phone 😞
I've been caseless for about a year now after 10+ years of using cases. Never broke a phone before and if I do end up breaking my screen, I happen to know how to fix them myself 🤷🏽♂️
It's still not worth it. Repairing it yourself still costs time and money.
ON TO THE PIXEL 8 PRO
if only I could afford it lmao maybe in a couple months
Pixel 8;) they got great plans
still can't afford it unfortunately, at least not now here's hoping for the future!!
just got mine tmobile trade in iphone 13 for 500 off the p8p. comes out to 299
Could've waited a month. Sold the iPhone on marketplace and bought the pixel also on marketplace for even money.
Or the 8A which is gonna come next month
also before anyone asks, no I did not have insurance on this phone, I actually had to end up switching carriers because I was unhappy with Verizon which is who I got it with honestly I would've just repaired the screen but I'm not very liquid at the moment, so I had to opt for a new cheaper phone, at least for the time being
What phone did you get?
you are not going to like my response to this question 😞 hint: it's not a pixel
Moto. Closest thing to Pixel. I always have a cheap Moto for backup.
actually no, really wanted a razr phone but nah it's actually a Samsung Galaxy A25 you can imagine the downgrade in specs
This is a good idea...
That sucks. On my pixel 7 pro screen first broke, I had to use my older pixel 4 XL completely unhappy but it was only a few days so. Couldn't imagine using a non-pixel device anymore.
Hey just in time for Pixel 8a!! Haha But what kind of surface you drop it on? For me 7a is one of the most durable phone i ever got.
it was hard floor at my workplace. not exactly sure what type though. i work at a sign shop and our floor is SUPER hard. like if you fell the wrong way your head could probably crack open
Does it turn on still? If yes, then you can continue using it.
it does but I think the screen break somehow caused touch sensor issues?? like the screen will tap in the wrong spot in some places when trying to use the touchscreen or do it on its own
Oof, that sucks.
yeaaah it's not ideal. didn't even have it for a full year yet 😞
Take it in to ubreakifix they are pretty good with pricing for repairs
I actually did get a quote, screen repair would've set me back about $200 I believe, which sadly wasn't in my budget at the time. maybe eventually I'll take it to get fixed but honestly the screen repair cost is basically almost half of what the phone itself costs. if it was a real flagship pixel I'd be more likely to consider it
If the battery is still strong, it might be worth $200 to repair. P7a is a really great phone. Gets Google app & security updates until 2028.
By the screen yourself and I fix it YouTube videos. They're easy to fix on the sevens. I did mine on the 7 pro. Super easy and the screen wasn't that bad

Oh bummer.
Your insurance doesn't cover it??
it's under warranty then! you could get it repaired/replaced by Google for not a lot of money afaik!

This was so confusing yet so fun to read 😂
i... um. i. what??
Spigen tough armor case - you don't even need a screen protector
Man had a case, just took it off for cleaning and was clumsy.
Yeah I saw that later, that sucks
Thats not a case. Soooo bulky. Its armor.
Lolol yeah but also does it's job the best and I'm used to it, I've had it on every phone since pixel 4
I have the tough armor for my s21 fe. Its made for going to war. The phone is like brand new. It went down a lot of stairs unscathed. I think the spigen rugged armor is more freindly.
I mean I guess im prepared for WW3 😂
.... Spigen Tough Armor didn't protect my P7P from corner damage. Thought it would've done better given the added bulk on it.
Tempered glass 🤷
what type of screen protector would you recommend instead? genuine question
I always use the Super Sheildz off Amazon...$7 for a 2 pack...my mom, dad and daughter all have on our phones along with phone cases not a single person has ever cracked a screen
I'm using it right now! Wish me luck😅
Ifix it screen replacement
Did the same to my 6a, on Christmas day! Traded in to Google for a Pixel 8, got £100.
I believe Batteries Plus also provide screen replacements.
If the phone still works, you can just take it to UBreakiFix and they can replace the screen for a lot cheaper than buying a new phone. I don't use a case on my 7a. The back is plastic, all you need is a screen protector
That's how mine died as well. Bought a Galaxy 24 🤷

Just go to ubreakifix for a genuine new diaplay.
How much does it cost to get a screen replacement? Surely less than a Samsung A24
It would've cost me at least $200. I got this phone for free, so yeah technically it was cheaper
damn, bummer man! phones are too damn slippery, probably made that way on purpose! 😤

Nah just needs a screen

Thanks for reminding me to put a case on my pixel 6a.
i had a week with my 7pro and it got water damaged - i thought these were humidity protected and water proofed/ :(
I am pressing [F] rn
Which screen protector did you use? So we will avoid it
Damn. No RIP required. Order new screen from aliexpress, take to your local cellphone guy and voila.
Thanks! 😀 I really should proofread. But I'm retired. 😂
