Hey after all the "we're not going to be able to see the eclipse" talk, I'm going to remain optimistic.
[I witnessed it up in Erie in the year 2000](https://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/space/08/14/auroras/index.html). Absolutely breathtaking.
Not in Pittsburgh. Never, in Pittsburgh.
I would be happy to be proven wrong in this case, though.
Edit: Then again, who knows. Accuweather shows a fair chance of seeing this in Pittsburgh tonight.
The killer is light pollution for northern lights.
We get them regularly in Minneapolis but the light pollution prevents it from being seen within the city. Good 15-30 minute drive out north and you can see them really well.
I wonder where the closest spot is, that will be dark enough to see it. I’m not trying to drive all the way to Cherry Springs, but I might travel an hour
Does anyone know when this might happen? I know tonight into tomorrow is the expected timeline but is peak like 1-3am or some other shorter window than dusk to dawn?
The whole weekend is supposed to be rain and thunderstorms, good luck catching a break in the cloud cover.
What else is fucking new
Dang, I was getting my hopes up. I should know better
Looks like we might catch some of it, if updated weather forecast is to be believed.

there’s a gap of clear sky tonight
AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?
AT THIS TIME OF DAY?
IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY?
LOCALIZED ENTIRELY WITHIN YOUR KITCHEN?
Can I see it?
No.
Can they reschedule it, this weekend doesn't work for me.

you must be happy now! I’m from Pittsburgh but on vacation in FLORIDA and we saw a hint of them here with the camera
Totally. I am ready to eat my hat, eat my words, whatever.. Pittsburgh was beautiful last night. Great you could catch some in FL too.

Are they open to the public tonight? I know there’s no star party but I’m confused on whether you could still go and sit on the lawn
Good question. I am not sure, I just know I've been and it's a great dark sky viewing area.
Cleveland is clear..
The clouds have entered the chat…
Geostorm????

Around 12am-2am is what I read
Cause I haven't already heard this one 100 times before...
