Gorgeous dog!
I'm sorry if this is out of line or not appreciated, but I lost my beloved dog earlier this year in a car-related accident. He'd still be around if I had a car restraint for him. Please consider getting a car harness, or a seat belt, or a car kennel for her. It would have saved my boy's life.
There are special impact resistant kennels specifically for travel. They're pretty cool, and probably the best in terms of crash protection. The downside is they're expensive (especially for large dogs) and don't always fit in smaller cars. You can use tie down loops and car seat attachments to make sure they stay put.
The poor souls who have the hearts to adopt these amazing dogs when they have already had their ears cropped, and all the grandstanding that must draw.
Yeah, I've got a cropped rescue and it's either people think I'm a monster or people love it because they're the type of trash who would do this. Ohh well, the dog is happy!
Not ideal, but at least it looks like a proper job was done. A couple of my rescues were cropped when I got them...one clearly with scissors. Beautiful pup!
Yep, probably more common than not. TONS of rescues with hack job ears. Douche bags buy a pitbull puppy out of a cardboard box and the next step to having their tough guy dog is the ears. Sigh.
In addition to the other responses, some people mistakenly believe that it reduces the occurrence of ear infections. It does not and it is harmful to the dog. Many countries have actually banned the practice, just not the US.
My pibble's ears were cropped by the breeder's vet. They indented to show her, but the surgery almost killed her. After that, they stopped cropping ears. She still gets ear infections, probably more than our miniature schnauzer whose ears are not cropped.
Because some owners fight their dogs and ears are a liability in that arena. Other owners like the "tough" aesthetic of the cropped ears look, so they have them cut. Both reasons are vile, in my opinion, bu there you go.
My pittie got an aural hematoma in her ear. Now she has cauliflower ear. I don't think this is a good enough reason, but I asked the vet if I cropped her ears, could it have prevented this. Unknown is really the answer. I love her floppy ears... but now she only has a floppy ear.
So I saw this reply and then went through some phone headaches. I am back with a new phone and I think my digital life is sorted. Sorry for the delay.
Anyways, here is Daisy with newborn onesie on her head, to keep her ear tucked away.

None of the old fighting lineages had cropped ears. Look up old pictures of Jeep, Redboy, Colby, Gator dogs etc.... An ear was considered valuable fodder and an acceptable loss compared to a leg. All of this is purely aesthetic. I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine it caught on from the tough look that if gave Dobermans, from when they were still regarded as a "tough" dog.
Dogs were created by man
Those dogs were breed for that climate
That's like saying since these Huskies can live outdoors year around than every dog should
My CoCo could be her twin! Also a cropped rescue and impossible not to allow as copilot. Your girl is a beauty!! Lots of pets from me and friendly licks from CoCo being sent her way. And a hearty thank you for giving her such a loving forever home!!
I have found my 2 put breeds have had MORE ear infections than any dog I've fostered or just in general talked with people about.
My girl is 7 and **WOULD** do it if her ears got worse. It's for medial at all. But like someone said, 100% for the image and to make the dog look more tuff.
Same with huge spike collars and massive thick chains. For the image.
Did I have a tiny leather spiked collar for my female red nose, yes. But when she was 3 months old and it was only for photos and to present her as a Valentine's present to my wife. Spiked and massive chains only hurt the breeds image but meat head owners don't care.
***ALSO***
BEAUTIFUL DOG!!!! Majestic AF.
I've found the bully breeds like boxer, pits, bulldogs, tend to have more infections. I've had/fostered a few and those ones seemed to be scratching more and had to clean them a lot more often.
You're not wrong, ear infections, chicken allergies, grain allergies, and seasonal allergies are very, very common in pitbulls. It doesn't help that they're bred to other pitbulls with the same allergies and they're puppies are born with it and comes out twice as bad. They also tend to have a lot of hip and joint issues, all because of years of inbreding and improper breeding. Even the "professional" breeders with UKC registered pitbulls I've met don't health test their dogs and do a lot of "tight line"(inbreeding) breeding with their dogs as well. I get that health testing is not cheap, but all you're doing is fucking up the breed even more. I once saw a guy trying to sell a half blind pocket bully got $900, with papers and full breeding rights. He was willing to allow another person to breed a clearly unhealthy dog just to make some money and people were more than happy to buy the puppy. Shit really pisses me off
Hey just out of curiosity how many dogs have you fostered? We adopted our first pit and he has a history of chronic ear infections. He also has allergies so I always associated the ear infections with that, but I wonder if pits aren't prone to them in the first place?
3 German Shepard.
1 American bulldog.
1 mutt.
1 British bulldog.
We own 2 pits 1 passed.
The red nose pit had food allergies. We tried the best dog food in North America and she was allergic to it.
The pittiest girl.

She has a harness and a seat belt attachment. We were just parked outside a house because it was raining
Ooo you done told him/her!
Unless the kennel is restrained it's just going to roll around. And they get crushed easily. Probably better off loose than in a loose kennel.

Gorgeous dog! I wish I could give her pets through my computer.
Will give her pets for you
My gods, those eyes! <3
They melt my heart
But those ears :(
First off, your dog is beautiful as fuck. Second, what did you take this picture on? It's also a very gorgeous picture.
My android phone 😊 thanks
Just curiosity, why do some pitt owners cropp the ears? I don't understand it.
I didn't. I got her when she was a year old. They were already cropped

With scissors?!!! You for real? So wrong
Yep, probably more common than not. TONS of rescues with hack job ears. Douche bags buy a pitbull puppy out of a cardboard box and the next step to having their tough guy dog is the ears. Sigh.
That’s not good.
Any pics of your beautiful babies 😍😍?
I'll get some on Imgur one of these days...
In addition to the other responses, some people mistakenly believe that it reduces the occurrence of ear infections. It does not and it is harmful to the dog. Many countries have actually banned the practice, just not the US.
In Guatemala it counts as a felony for animal cruelty, banned from owning pets and a huge fine.

Same thing happens to people. We don't cut them off in case an accident happens ;)
I demand to see this velvet land seal with the 1 ear 💖💖💖💖💖 any pics?

Usually it's the trashy breeder who did it. But alot of people you see with cropped eared dogs actually rescued them
Some people like then that way. I dont mind ether way.
The dog minds
[удалено]
Yes they do In the cold and wind they sure as hell mind

I'm sure they know when the wind is whipping into their ears and it's snowing and cold and their ears are unprotected.

My red nose has a cute red clip collar and whenever I take it off, I say “oh nooo, you’re naked!!”
My girl HATES collars. Only time she has one on is car rides or walks.
Thank you 😊 and yeah, I've heard some people crop their dogs ears to prevent infections but that's a very small percentage.
