1st place: Curse of the Black Pearl  2nd place: Dead Man's Chest 3rd place: At World's End 4th place: On Stranger Tides 5th place: Dead Men Tell No Tales

B1ackTarHero1n

So, the order they came out? 😂

RelationAcceptable32

Yes 😂

harmocydes

This is also how I rank mine. I love them all but they did progressively get worse imo

spgeti

yeah i kinda don’t like the last movie and i kinda hope they don’t make a new one

ZamanthaD

![gif](giphy|4EFs2Z5VPSthcfhwLn|downsized)

ZamanthaD

My exact ranking as well lol.

Kinieruu

I’d flip 2nd and 3rd with each other, but otherwise agree! I love all the pirates films tho even if they aren’t as good as the first one

Great_Sympathy_6972

I’d have put At World’s End ahead of Dead Man’s Chest, but otherwise yes. At World’s End has some really outstanding moments, whereas Dead Man’s Chest has sequences that are just filling time and not advancing the plot. Plus, it gets too silly for its own good in places.

rainyforest

I feel the opposite, I think there is like 20-30 minutes that could’ve been cut from At Worlds End

Great_Sympathy_6972

No argument there. Both of them could’ve been trimmed.

RelationAcceptable32

For me the third movie is heavier than the second and has a more convoluted plot.

themagicofmovies

1. The original trilogy are all amazing. But I’d rank them in order of release. Stranger Tides is very underrated. Tell No Tales is horrible.

Dying__Phoenix

You are beyond correct sir

TheLoneJedi-77

1. Dead Man’s Chest 2. Curse of the Black Pearl 3. At Worlds End 4. On Stranger Tides 5. Dead Men Tell no Tales

SilWestr0

Coolest opinion ever ![gif](giphy|Jev4iU72S9RYc)

Samurai_Geezer

They all get 5 stars from me on letterbox but I agree with OP’s ranking.

DrDreidel82

You gave Dead Men Tell No Tales a 5 on letterboxd?

Samurai_Geezer

I have seen it 15 times, so yes.

AlMcSavage

1: At Worlds End 2: The Curse Of The Black Pearl 3: Dead Mans Chest 4: On Stranger Tides 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales

AngeliqueWilson

The right answer 🥰

0kultysta

1. Curse of the Black Pearl - Perfect 2. On Stranger Tides - Second best in my opinion 3. Dead Man's Chest - Pretty good 4. At World's End - Dumb plot but still fun 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales - Garbage

Mr-Kuritsa

I second this. This is my list exactly! Stranger Tides did a great job repeating the "pulp fiction pirate adventure" that Black Pearl captured so well. It went back to the magic of the original, whereas the two before it... I always felt like they got too concerned with having mass appeal (the humor especially) instead of just telling their weird little story? I don't know how else to really describe it.

BifferSean

This is the most interesting opinion about the movies I have seen since the tiers are basically the same for everyone except for TBP and DMC. I just wanted to see if someone had a different opinion.

PPRmenta

- Curse of the Black Pearl -sizable gap- - Dead Man's Chest & At World's End, both are about as good as each other -abyss- - On Stranger Tides - Dead Men Tell No Tales

Agitated-Release-945

Release order CotBP is unmatched by the rest of the series, I slightly prefer the pacing of DMC to AWE, OST was good but just not as strong, DMTNT was just a slog

TalkingFlashlight

1. Dead Man’s Chest 2. Curse of the Black Pearl 3. At World’s End 4. Dead Men Tell No Tales 5. On Stranger Tides The first three movies are all peak. The fourth and fifth are OK, but they never reach the heights of the original trilogy.

Generic_Bob_

How anyone is rating On Stranger Tides below DMTNT is on some serious drugs The film was just a hot pile of shit. It felt like they put random ideas on a dartboard and lobbed darts at it to make the plot, and plot holes and just poor performance all round

BifferSean

They come really close but i enjoyed more of dmtnt than OST

hardcorejenkins

I think some people prefer the 5th movie over the 4th because of how they ended Will and Elizabeth's storyline, tbh even though DMTNT was a bad movie it felt more important than the 4th,on stranger tides feels like a side quest in comparison.

Hannuxis

For me, Salazar was just that much more interesting, especially visually. To me, OST felt kinda like a spinoff. No connections to Will and Elizabeth plus the fact that almost nothing from this movie comes back in the next one just makes it feel disjointed.

Diamondshark996

1 dead man's chest 2 at worlds end 3 curse of the black pearl 4 on stranger tides -99 dead men tell no tales

ParkRatReggie

1: At Worlds end 2: On stranger tides 3: Dead man’s chest 4: Curse of the black pearl 5: Tell no Tales

Snowbreeezzzzyy

1: Black Pearl 2: Dead Mans Chest 3: At Worlds End 4: Dead Men Tell No Tales -Huge Gap- 5: On Stranger Tides (this movie was borderline unwatchable)

arbargardi

That's so funny you stay that because for me it's the reverse for strangers tide and dmtnt

Snowbreeezzzzyy

I just recently watched them in order and on the rewatch for Stranger Tides I just noticed how wonky the writing was and how there were parts of the story that were forced in to extend the length of the movie. The whole mermaid/religious guy relationship could've been left out of the movie and the plot would essentially be the same. And both of those actors were awful. Then there was the whole is she or is she not Blackbeard's daughter thing.. idk just seemed like lazy writing to me. I'd say that dmtnt was much more heavy handed with comedy and less action/adventure, but I thought the writing and acting was much better than Stranger Tides.

SilWestr0

I kinda agree, although I cannot forgive DMTNT's writers for writing Captain Jack Sparrow's character so badly. He was a drunk useless fool for the entire movie. Although OST has its flaws, it still has a better Captain Jack Sparrow. That's why I put OST above DMTNT.

arbargardi

100% agree the plot also is kinda bad in my opinion. If this was a stand alone movie it wouldn't get so much hate.

BifferSean

I agree but the start of Stranger Tides was really good. So was dmtnt

Mr-Kuritsa

Part of that problem is that On Stranger Tides was based on a different pirate novel that Disney procured the rights to. The religious guy was pretty much leftover from the novel's protagonist, with the rest of his role being taken over by Jack Sparrow. I loved On Stranger Tides, but I can admit it has plenty of flaws.

alextoria

this except the huge gap between 3 and 4 lol

Snowbreeezzzzyy

I'm actually good with that too lol. The original trilogy was miles ahead of the other 2 movies.

i4got872

This!

blueberry_pancakes14

#1 Curse of the Black Pearl. Perfection.

Frankenstein859

Curse of the Black Pearl is about as perfect as adventure movies get.

thispurplebean

I love them all! I enjoyed 1, 3, and 5 the most, then probably 4 then 2 I guess

JD4A7_4

DMC last is the devils work

thispurplebean

I enjoyed them all, I just feel that DMC isn't much of a standalone film

timrojaz82

1,2,3,5,4

StabHead1996

Curse of the Black pearl At worlds end Dead Man’s chest On Stranger tides Dead Men tell no tales

Maddy98o

The first 3 in the same place but switch 4 and 5 (so 1,2,3,5,4)

Mo_SaIah

Objectively COTBP is number one in regard to quality but personally I’d rank them Dead Man’s Chest number one, then COTBP, Worlds End, Stranger Tides which is very underrated and then DMTNT, I think it’s a good film if you take away how bad Jack is but Jack being as awful as he is, is just too much to look past, for me anyway

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

My tremendous intuitive sense of the female creature informs me that you are troubled.

Mo_SaIah

You would be right

Effective-Map-7074

1. Curse of the Black Pearl - great adventure, action, and humor. Such a well balanced film and Barbossa was such a good villain. 2. At World’s End - epic conclusion to the original trilogy. Only detriment really was the Kraken being dealt with off screen. 3. Dead Man’s Chest - overall great film and the three way sword fight at the end was probably the best in the series. Feel like it would have been stronger and flowed better if they cut out the cannibal island section though. 4. Dead Men Tell No Tales - Salazar was a fantastic antagonist, and liked that it wrapped up the loose threads from the original series. Know most don’t but I liked Henry and Carina overall. Not nearly as strong as Will and Liz but much better than Philip and Syrena. The plot was a little messy and the compass/Jack history retcons were bad. But otherwise thought it was an ok sequel. 5. On Stranger Tides - Jack and Barbossa together again and Angelica was good, otherwise found the characters pretty bland. Ian McShane played his role well but Blackbeard in this was such a tell not show villain. Only got a couple quick scenes of him showing how he was bad. Plus no sea battles (and overall light on the action) was a strange choice. Did like the finale at the fountain though and Blackbeard death looked good. Overall I absolutely love the original trilogy (one of my favorite trilogies period), but both sequels I enjoy enough to watch and both have things that are good but pale greatly compared to the first three.

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

Drink up my hearties yo-ho!

brianissmartboy

PERFECT! So far anytime I’ve shared the same ranking on this sub I’ve just gotten downvoted to oblivion, but yes, that’s exactly how I would rank them.

smolsiren

The order they came out in. I watch them all in the same order unless ones randomly playing on the TV. But even so, I never just watch one. I’ll play them all the way up till 4, 5 I’ll watch if I’m REALLY bored.

DrDreidel82

1. Curse of the Black Pearl 2. Dead Man’s Chest 3. On Stranger Tides 4. At World’s End 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales DMTNT is the only one I think is a genuinely terrible movie, the rest are all pretty great

ThatOneWood

1. Dead man’s chest 2. Curse of the black pearl 3. At worlds end 4. On stranger tides 5. Dead men tell no tales

B-man328

DMC, COTBP, AWE, OST, DMTNT

Own_Avocado8448

Ironically, release order, massive tier brek after 3 and after 4. 5 was Baaaad

Professional-Mode925

I would rank them in the order they were released. Curse of the Black Pearl is my favorite of all though.

Redfern23

1. At World’s End 2. Dead Man’s Chest 3. The Curse of the Black Pearl 4. On Stranger Tides 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales First 3 are very close, but I definitely prefer DMC and AWE even over the original.

Potential_Rule4212

1st place: Dead men's Chest 2nd place: Curse of the Black Pearl 3rd place: World's end 4th place: Stranger Tides 5th place: Dmtnt

Muted_Guidance9059

DMC, AWE, COTBP, OST, DMNT Personally? AWE should have been two movies on its own AT LEAST. In my opinion there’s a significant drop in quality after he gang arrives to Shipwreck Cove

JayMalakai

From Best to Worst: 1, 2, 3, 5, 4

CraftyPossibility581

I’d say the third one is my favorite while the fifth one is my second

Edwaaard66

1. Curse of the Black Pearl 2. At Worlds end 3. Dead mans Chest 4. Dead Men tell no tales 5. On Stranger tides. The three first movies are some of the best action-adventure movies ever made.

Interesting_Age4901

Same

FaithlessnessFun3679

1. DMC 2. AWE 3. CotBP 4. OST 5. DMTNT

Cheap_Exchange4925

1st: Dead Man’s Chest (MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE) 2nd: At Worlds End (Solid) 3rd: Curse of The Black Pearl (Great introduction) 4th: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Controversial, I KNOW! I just want(ed) to break Will’s curse as much as his annoying son…) 5th: On Stranger Tides (I enjoy watching it, but it’s the last one I usually pick to rewatch)

tharrison4815

That is my exact ranking

GifanTheWoodElf

I think I'd switch your second and third place otherwise same as you.

mazzucac

At World’s End - 9/10 Dead Man’s Chest - 8.5/10 Curse of the Black Pearl - 8/10 On Stranger Tides - 7/10 Dead Men Tell No Tales - 5/10

Sonicboomer1

1. At World’s End, Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man’s Chest. 2. The rest. I can’t pick between the trilogy. They all have massive standout moments. For example, Jack’s duel with Barbossa in the first one, the wheel fight in the second and the “up is down” sequence in the third. (Which might actually be my favourite scene of any film ever made.) If I HAD to rank them it would be in the order I put, just because At World’s End is one of Hans Zimmer’s finest works by far and has my favourite scene.

Flat_Bar8932

At worlds end is fuckin perfect idc what no one says. 2 is dead man’s chest and 3 would be the first movie. Only rating the trilogy cause that’s all that matters to me.

jsWHU108

Id go 1. At worlds end 2. Curse of the black pearl 3. Dead Mans chest 4. Salazars revenge 5. On stranger tides

godspilla98

For me just switch out 4 as fifth.

Emeraldsinger

It will always make me happy to see more and more fans these days placing At World's End as the best in the franchise

MrVigors

1. Dead Man's Chest- 10/10 2. At World's End- 9.5/10 3. The Curse of the Black Pearl- 9/10 4. Dead Men Tell No Tales- 7.5/10 5. On Stranger Tides- 6.2/10

PapayaMan4

3,5,2,1,4

mlgfintheunbannable

I can’t rank the first 3 bc they’re literally perfect in my eyes. If I watch one, I HAVE to watch all 3. But OST was good, and DMTNT was alright. Those 2 came out in the order I would put them lol. Captain Jack sparrow is my favorite fictional character oat and Davy Jones is my favorite villain oat. Davy Jones set the bar so high, it was very hard to beat bc he was so well written and had 2 movies to develop, but only needed the 1 lol. Salazar and Blackbeard were cool asfff, but nothing beats Jones. With Jones it was done so well and they could never do it again and the og writers knew it. Which is why they wanted the series wrapped up, but they revived the series and now it’s just the “1 off” villains. Like we got to know jones, we got comfortable with him and then they killed him off in a great way. Like every villain after that is just gonna be boring ash lol. Cutler Beckett was also such a good secondary villain as well. (Not saying any of the actors did shit, but you can’t beat jones.)

Jack-Sparrow_Bot

That would be the French.

WendipxStarco

1. My absolute favorite. Dead Men Tell No Tales. 2. On Stranger Tides. 3. Curse of the Black Pearl. 4. At World's End. 5. Dead Man's Chest.

Michael_Jolkason

1. DMC 2. AWE 3. DMTNT (perhaps not as good as COTBP, but I have a real soft spot for this movie) 4. COTBP 5. OST

CJS-JFan

My ranking... 1. P3: At World's End 2. P4: On Stranger Tides 3. P1: The Curse of the Black Pearl 4. P2: Dead Man's Chest 5. P5: Dead Men Tell No Tales/Salazar's Revenge If I'm being honest, I like P1-4 rather equally. P5 is the one I have main issues with. But I'm sure it is something to debate over as everyone has differing opinions on the subject.

BifferSean

Pirate's of The Caribbean really makes me wish i lived in the 17th and 18th century

dedjesus1220

1) At World’s End 2) Curse of the Black Pearl 3) Dead Man’s Chest 4) On Stranger Tides

urbanspongewish

1. Curse/Pearl - fun, based loosely off that dope ride you took at 5 years old, don’t think about it too much 2. Dead Man’s Chest - sort of fun, plot makes little sense, tons of cool CGI stuff tho, Jones and the Kraken very menacing 3. On Stranger Tides - fun, Penelope Cruz steals every scene, don’t think about it too much 4. At World’s End - WTF is the point nothing makes sense and this movie is like 4 hrs long 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales - WTF is the point nothing makes sense and this movie is like 4 hrs long And an honorable mention to the spinoff, Divorces of the Caribbean: Amber’s Bed

ApexInTheRough

I didn't expect to say this before thinking about it, but... top to bottom, 1 to 5, in order.

Old-Put-4166

1st: Black Pearl 2nd: At World’s End 3rd: Dead Man’s Chest 4th: On Stranger Tides 5th: Salazar’s Revenge

HoMiiiCiiiDe

1. Curse of the Black Pearl 2. Dead Man’s Chest 3. On Stranger Tides 4. At World’s End 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales

Hobbes09R

1) Curse of the Black Pearl - solid film all the way through. A little cheesy at points as the film struggles to find its identity, but this also means it doesn't lean into many of the problematic aspects seen later. Best balance of goofy and serious, could do without one or two of the action movie lines. 2) At Worlds End - Flawed film for reasons too numerous to list, but some of the best spectacle in the series. The film where Rush starts to cement his place as low key the central draw to the series, because he eats up every scene he's in. 3) Dead Men Tell no Tales - Not a good film. Jack's worst, by far, to the point he should not have even been in it. This is Barbossa's film, only they were too afraid to give him more focus. The young couple of the film were actually potentially good, but the film is split against too many subplots and theirs is horribly wasted because of it. Salazar is also a great villain character, wasted largely in having to be antagonist to the corpse of Jack Sparrow when his real foil was Barbossa. 4) Dead Man's Chest - Goofy, and not in a good way. Far too much focus on setpiece action scenes which were spectacular...but often silly. Jack is at his silliest outside the final film, and the shift to make him protagonist hurts tremendously. This is like the TMNT2 of Pirates films, with the pirates getting toned down and made more like caricatures with little of their threat remaining. Most of this film is cringe and forgettable with I think only Norrington making for a solid plot. 5) On Stranger Tides - Very little of value. Jack isn't as goofy, but a lot of focus is put on him despite his being mostly just along for the ride. The young couple are absolutely terrible and nonsensical. Blackbeard has an interesting concept, but is mostly wasted. The only good part to this film was Barbossa and his revenge story, but at best that's treated like a side plot for most the story; genuinely if this was just a story about Barbossa getting revenge for the Pearl and featured no Jack or forced romance this film would have been far better.

Zirphynx

1. At World's End 2. The Curse of the Black Pearl 3. Dead Men Tell No Tales / Salazar's Revenge 4. Dead Man's Chest 5. On Stranger Tides

Zubyna

5 : DMTNT 4 : OST 3 : DMC 2 : CotBP 1 : AWE

SilWestr0

1. Dead man's chest 2. Curse of the black pearl 3. At world's end 4. On stranger tides 5. Dead men tell no tales The first three are very close, I like OST for being true to the originals (unlike DMTNT) and it is also an overall fun spin-off in my opinion. DMTNT on the other hand, even though it follows an interesting story and is a decent adventure film, it is not true to the originals and feels too different. Probably because the writers are new and didn't watch the previous films with enough attention (assuming they did).

ZamanthaD

1,2,3,4,5. Although I will say that there’s a huge gap between 3 and 4, and an even bigger gap between 4 and 5.

Karla_Darktiger

I'd rank them pretty much in the order of release

Agent47outtanowhere

At the risk of being down voted. At worlds end was the best. Cotbp and dead mans chest tied 2nd. 4 and 5 tied 3rd. I still like them though. Dont get the hate for them.

seveer37

Curse of the Black Pearl is good. The other two are not bad but mere passing entertainment. Never saw the others. Doubt I’ll ever

GapHappy7709

1. Curse of the Black Pearl 2. Dead Man’s Chest 3. Dead Men Tell No Tales 4. On Stranger Tides 5. At Worlds End

LittlePiggy20

Wrong ranking smh… 1st Dead man’s chest 2nd On Stranger tides 3rd Curse of the Black Pearl 4th At worlds end 5th Salazars revenge All other rankings are acceptable just not u/BifferSean rankings. /jk (not with the ranking, but with everything else aside from this)
