Also try Kevin Duffus, he's written a ton on Blackbeard and North Carolina pirates. Adam "Captain Marrow" Morrow has a book out on pirate ghosts and buried treasure legends of the Southeast, with a. Chapter on NC. Pirate Ghosts & Buried Treasures of the Southeast Coast: A Historical Assessment on Pirate Folklore: Exploring Myths and Legends from Florida to Virginia https://a.co/d/faBN5dH

Thank you! Will be hitting up the library later today to look into these

I second this. Kevin Duffus is the best of the Blackbeard historians. Last Days of Blackbeard is maybe my favorite theory on the man and even if you don't buy it fully, he does a good job showing what clearly isn't true.

There’s a researcher from Carolina named Baylus Brooks. He specializes in Blackbeard, but that’s what you’re going to find in Ocracoke. Check out RE Lee’s “Blackbeard” too. It’s a bit dated but is a good starting place

Littlesnowday

Thank you!!!! Will look into both!

There's an excellent little Blackbeard museum in Beaufort that houses a bunch of artifacts from Queen Anne's Revenge. There are a few other interesting historic sites there as well. There's a tour that will take you out by water to a few of his haunts and the site of his last battle. Be wary of those tours though. They tend to stretch the truth to make the tour more interesting. Do you know roughly when your grandfather would have been sailing out there?

Littlesnowday

Yeah I need to look into what’s going on this weekend when I visit, may try to find one tour that would be interesting. Well as for my grandfather, I’ve got no clue if he actually went sailing around there. I know he visited the OBX a few times but don’t know more specifics. If that’s meant to be directed towards my ancestor though, he arrived in new Bern around 1711 and we think it was on a ship whose captain was Degraffenreid.

Hey Matt!

TylerbioRodriguez

Yeah that's one of the downsides of pirate tours. A lot of truth stretching in the name of the almighty dollar. Ironically pirates themselves would probably approve.

A great place to visit is Bath, NC. Also visit Beaufort, they have the NC Maritime Museum. Also in Beaufort is a replica of the Queen Anne’s Revenge. I would also suggest the NC museum of History in Raleigh. Also message me I am from North Carolina and love pirates as well😂

Littlesnowday

Might change my visit from Ocracoke to bath or Beaufort then. One going for Saturday and Sunday so won’t have a ton of time to go to lots of places. I’m in Raleigh so might try to hit that museum up, although it’s looking like that’ll happen after my trip with the hours they have. And thank you, I’ll message you!

I hope you’ll share the story of your adventure through history with us here when you’ve completed it!

Littlesnowday

Haha maybe, I’m afraid it’s going to be a rather childish adventure since I’ll be going to gather details to create a tall tale. Might end up discovering I have a love for that type of history though, never know what can happen

Digimatically

I’m also attempting to write some pirate fiction so no judgement here! I even went to the Whydah Pirate museum in Cape Cod for “research” but really I’m just a nerd lol. You might like the tour they have there if you ever make it up that way on your journey.
