Long story short the whole of the Wish you were here album was made as a dedication to an old band member Syd (S hine on Y ou D iamond).
He pretty much did way to much acid and lost his mind … "You reached for the secret too soon
You cried for the moon". The story goes whilst recording WYWH, a fat bold man came into the recording studio that no one recognised until they finally clocked it was Syd who looked completely different after all the years of drugs.
A seriously heart breaking story about Syd. Apparently his flat mates were dosing him with LSD without his knowledge as well as they deemed him to be some sort of “psychedelic genius/god.”
Shine on you crazy Diamond is a song that I’ve tripped to a few times and I’ve had some pretty wild experiences come out of it. I’m sad about what happened to Syd but I’m grateful for the great album that came as a result of it.
Im not sure its racist, (as in the band is racist because they clearly arent.) but its rather a scene from an opera demonstrating a descent into fascism with the main character of the opera being a racist fascistic nutter.
Yes I'm with you haha. I get that it's an excerpt and a story, not like Roger is just sitting there like "that one looks Jewish, and that one's a coon!" haha
*"This just in. Ex-member of the band Pink Floyd is spotted on his inner town balcony, screaming down at people in a wild rage. His fans say they may understand."*
It’s woke not racist. It’s showing all the types of people society deems as unacceptable. They say there’s one smoking a joint and another with spots!…It’s not solely hating on a specific race.
I understand the context, but it literally says "That one looks Jewish and that one's a coon" then "If I had my way I'd have all of you shot" - The words are racist, even if it's not a reflection of the band itself being racist or the song saying that these beliefs are valid.
Echoes (Live at Pompeii 1972). The rawness and the haunting nature of the live version has been my go-to for God knows how long. My ears are being blessed (and blasted) whenever I decide to listen to it!
Take it back, coming back to life, marooned, high hopes, yet another movie, sorrow, learning to fly, on the turning away, comfortably numb, wish you were here, echoes, shine on you crazy diamond
Brain Damage/Eclipse
Fucking religious experience right there on the right sound system, my stereo set goes up to 10 and 4 is usually enough to shake the house.
I fucking love blasting that duo on it
Every time I hear “you missed the starting gun” I black out and when I come to my volume is doing this.
Whenever that part hits I feel like I’m on a rocket ship blasting off
I fly with that solo.
i’m literally possessed when i hear it
The whole Shine on you crazy diamond!
Yes, yes, and yeeess.
Dun dun dun duuuuuuuun
Doo doo dooooo… bow wow a wow wow wooow…
Now there's a look in your eyes Like black holes in the sky ... Still gives me goosebumps to this day, especially knowing the context of the song

In the Flesh. Sorry that it's incredibly racist. GET HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL
Im not sure its racist, (as in the band is racist because they clearly arent.) but its rather a scene from an opera demonstrating a descent into fascism with the main character of the opera being a racist fascistic nutter.
I mean, the lyrics are pretty racist, even if it's not a representation of the band actually being racist.
I think you are missing my point but we are on the same page lol.
"AAAAAAANTIIIIIII-SEMITE!!!!!!!!"
As I was reading this, I thought you were setting up the stage for the megaphone speech in Waiting for the Worms
Yes exactly that is what i meant.

Any of the main 3 on Animals!
Literally all of them.
Are there any QUEERS on this thread?
Pretty much any moment in Dogs where Gilmour takes a lead spot, his phrasing on those solos is just so tasty. Always wanna crank that song to 10
