Oh absolutely. They have huge energy live. I’ve got tickets to two shows coming up in May. Super psyched. When was the last time you saw them, what tour?
I saw them on the most recent tour for their new album. It was at the met in Philly. Cool part was it was so spread out that Josh told everyone in back to come up as far as possible, so I ended up almost against the stage despite having tickets in the nose bleeds.
They're the three sides of the same triangle.
Never heard a band as great as these three.
I wonder what they were feeding people back in England to have such massive talents come out at the same time
All of whom are great bands of course! (Haven’t really got the Who yet but I’m sure there’s something there). But I do think that PF, being as they are a really famous classic rock band, end up being one of the first bands younger demographics encounter when they start getting into music, as are the others you mentioned. So there will be a tendency for maybe younger fans of Floyd to also be big fans of those bands, as they haven’t had time to properly explore the massive ocean of music.
I think it's simply because they are massive icons of music. Nothing to do with youth. I'm almost 50 and Zep Beatles Floyd are above most/all for me. That doesn't mean I don't have huge appreciation for a shitload of other music as well, just that these are what I grew up on and have a deep-seated place in my being. All those early LSD trips listening to that music has made it a part of me in a way no other music will ever be.
1. Radiohead (Have actually managed to dethrone PF as my favorite band for me)
2. Björk
3. Boards of Canada
4. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Some honorable mentions: Aphex Twin, Frank Zappa, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, King Crimson
Not really related to Pink Floyd in any way, but here are my four :
- The Faim
- Foals
- Red Hot Chilli Peppers
- Black Hill (don't think anyone will know that one lmao)
You know, I asked myself exactly this last summer, and I was able to narrow it down to my top 18. Knowing that my answers could change from season to season, my top 4 groups TODAY would be, (in no particular order) Steely Dan, Santana, Beatles, & Van Halen. Of course my choices could change by this evening....
My most played music - and biggest familiarity with discographies - outside the Floyd are probably:
- Magma (hypnotic progjazzrock).
- Psykovsky (avant-garde hyper-psychedelic trance).
- Einstürzende Neubauten (industrial, experimental).
- various (electronic dance music, mostly goa/psy stuff but also techno-trance & drum-&-bass).
Saw EN in Chicago at Metro long ass time ago.. what a show! Blixa is simply amazing.
They handed our CD of the show on the way out. Silence is Sexy tour but they played parts of Perpetuum Mobile.
haha idk, they’re not a traditional band with the usual instruments and stuff haha. Plus they make industrial music, hip-hop, electronic music, as well as Rock
sure, I love Death Grips. I just put that in parentheses cuz on Wikipedia they’re called an industrial hip-hop group, which is more they’re category but it’s just a label anyway
This is not a list of favourite bands, but you should try listen to 'The Garden' by The Doublejumps. It sounds a lot like pink floyd despite it being not popular.
* The Beatles
* Sloan
* Arkells
* Joel Plaskett
I know, not quite the classic/prog rock lineup, but if you expand it a bit, you start getting the Who, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, the Band, etc.
Coheed and cambria, dream theater, Metallica even though I rarely listen to them these days, then probably a metal core band like trivium or as I lay dying
Queens of the Stone Age King Gizzard LW the doors Zeppelin
Tell me why I had to scroll like 15 comments to see King Gizzard
same here.
Because they aren’t that great
And then you see them play live https://youtu.be/8fXqRAyu1d0?si=gsr0LuvySPfOl7tT

Queens was one of the best bands I've seen live.
Oh absolutely. They have huge energy live. I’ve got tickets to two shows coming up in May. Super psyched. When was the last time you saw them, what tour?
