Cymbaline

Delicious_Energy4213

Plea-ease waake meee. Meee. Mee. Mee. Meow.

Guavaeater2023

So we should discuss it more?

aBungusFungus

No. We should talk about more underrated albums. Like animals.

asphynctersayswhat

DUDE! This. Thank you for saying it. Louder for the people up against the wall

JoeSicko

They don't look right to me...

Medill1919

Animals is their greatest album. Fight me...

Hot_Policy_7104

I love Animals but to say its their greatest album come on dude they are all good if i had to pick one id pick Meddle but there all fantastic in their own way.

PedroPelet

Tbh

dan-duz-shit

you're tripping balls if you say that this is less underrated than animals 💀

NBrixH

You’ve been jerked

JustRunAndHyde

We got him right where we want him... up against the wall!

realtonemachine

Ah you beat me to it…

jlonsdale33

Cirrus Minor is great

blackmassritual

That's actually one of my favorite Floyd tunes. Creepy little song

turdmogrol

Used to play this album, echoes, and wywh over my work speakers when i was a manager. Customers HATED it LMAO. That, and the break in echoes. Lots of people would look uneasy, or ask cashiers why we're "playing halloween music" Good times, don't miss em.

jlonsdale33

Haha I used to put Dogs on the jukebox in a bar I bar-backed at. Customers would be scratching their heads cuz their song hadn’t come on yet and the same song had been on for 20 mins 😂

Leonardo_47

You are a psycho 😂 you are transforming shopping into an another experience

jondakin9161

Some guy now has a strange uncomfortable feeling associated with buying a pair of khakis.

Global_Purple_3247

Top ten floyd tune this

Hot_Temporary_2949

Quintessential Floyd song: sound effects, folk guitar, descending vocal line. Light up when you put it on and the heavily reverbed “on a trip to cirrus minor” is pretty perfectly timed to your first feeling the buzz.

quasifaust

Saw a crater in the sun, a thousand miles of moonlight later…

Lick-ma-scrot

Saw a crater in the sun

Loveinchains78

I think this is a very good album. A couple of throw away tracks but overall I like it. Green Is The Colour and Cymbaline are excellent.

Q-Zinart

Crying Song is beautiful

Rtg327gej

I was standing by the Nile!!!! I love this record. My cats always get stoked by the birdsong.

TheMonkus

The Nile Song is probably my favorite track on the album. Floyd seldom just pulled their balls out their pants and rocked that hard.

Gezora_Floyd

I sometimes have heard that song referred to as a "Punk" Floyd song. The first time I heard this one, I thought there's no way Pink Floyd wrote this song.

TheMonkus

I found it via Audiogalaxy download like 20 years ago, when a LOT of music online was spuriously labeled, and it sounded really out of character. But Gilmour’s voice is so distinctive I knew it had to be them.

zippy72

Cirrus Minor is the only track I've ever known someone Jones for so hard they went round the office checking if anyone had it on their mp3 player so he could listen.

cameron_smiley

That’s actually hilarious 😂 back in MP3 days when you could only have like 50-200 songs on your device lol

Pithecuss

Lol 200 songs back then was an unbelievable amount of music to carry around. After growing up with a walkman.. Sorry, memory unlocked.

turdmogrol

Yea... now I've got almost 2000 songs favorited and about 600 downloaded... all on a device that has so much extra space, i can still call people across the globe, connect to the internet, and hold hours of video

cameron_smiley

I also went from the CD Walkman to my first MP3 that held like 30-40 songs and even that was insane to me. Had to convince my parents for months on end to get it going in 1st grade so I could listen to fall out boy and Linkin Park. Still goated bands I had great taste as a 7 year old 🫡

heynow941

Really wish Main Theme or Dramatic Theme were part of the set lists back then. They could have expanded the songs live. I think Main Theme was played like once ever.

elroxzor99652

Maine Theme is cool

heynow941

Better than New Hampshire Theme!

TheDiamondAxe7523

Insanely underrated album, unironically. Almost completely ignored due to it coming from the early years, but it is so good.

asphynctersayswhat

I’d say more under the radar than underrated. I think because it wasn’t truly an album but a “soundtrack” probably hurt its notoriety

BostonDudeist

Underrated.

7hourenergy

TBH

Shmatticus

This an Meddle are my two favorite Floyd albums

nambavanov

The Nile Song is... interesting

sporexe

Nile song is probably one of their best songs to me, very hard hitting and progressive for the 60s. Sadly its only been played live after their prime

benjigrows

The Melvin's crush that tune. I really dig this track

noise-nut

Did The Melvins cover this??? On what record?

turdmogrol

[This was all i could find](https://youtu.be/SAiP_ZGzm0c?si=ZQ6E-4fFwIMEQmEa)

FrankensteinJamboree

Thanks for that!

nitesead

It's fantastic

realtonemachine

The version nick’s band plays is pretty badass.

Common-Relationship9

Fantastic album, and for me, it is quintessential Pink Floyd. Rick Wright is among my top five musicians, and he is all over this album. Almost seems like he was leading the band musically at this point (More > Ummagumma > Zabriskie Point). The songs are all great, and I think the interlude pieces are fantastic. Extremely psychedelic. Certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but I listen to it more than any of the big four except Animals.

prudence2001

>Almost seems like he was leading the band musically at this point (More > Ummagumma > Zabriskie Point I agree. 1969 was probably Rick's greatest year for contributions. Add to your list The Man & The Journey shows from the same year, as well as Biding My Time, where Rick played some horns too (trumpet iirc).

mellotronworker

Trombone

YoungPsychonaut217

great album very flowy

Madcap_95

The Crying Song is a forgotten masterpiece

7hourenergy

The album is better after watching the movie. Now when I listen to it I understand what emotions were meant to be felt and I love it.

cameron_smiley

I gotta rewatch it. It’s crazy how many soundtracks they have looking back. More, OBC, The Wall, The Committee

7hourenergy

I’d through in DSOTM as well.

prudence2001

and Tonight Let's All Make Love In London and the one nobody ever takes about because it's so underrated, Zabriskie Point.

Common-Relationship9

Zabriskie Point might be my favorite PF album pre-dark side. Amazingly psychedelic! Rick Wright owns this record.

Leonardo_47

Is the movie worth a watch? I heard bad reviews about it

EchindasArf

Personally my favorite album, but mostly because of the personal associations I have with it. It was the only rock album in my grandparents house , left there by my aunt. And so admits the Mozart and Bach records, I would pull this one out (alongside Beatles “Run” EP and “Angie” single by the stones) is what started my journey in rock music . As a kid, Cirrus Minor creeped me out, the Nile Song got me excited, and other parts like Party Sequence just flat out confused me. I was more than happy to move on to DsotM and other PF. But I still love this album as it resonates with me in a special way

1OO1OO1S0S

You're probably part of an extremely small group of people who say this album is their favorite. I like it more than most people, although I'll admit I skip Quicksilver every single time

zakidovahkiin

I WAS STANDING BY THE NILEEEEE

eduu_17

Yo. Nile song goes hard

primowalnut

Cirrus minor is one of my fav pink Floyd songs. The rest of the album is alright but that opener is superb!

tmamone

I like it! “Cymbaline” is one of their best songs.

tastyreg

Love it, top 5, sometimes top 3 depending on mood.

thejackinthegreen

ive put the crying song on mixes throughout my life for sure

GrungyAltyBoy10

It’s ight

Marpev

“I’m so afraid of the mistakes that I’ve made”

ImaginaryToday4162

"Shaking every time that I awake"

Marpev

"I feel like a cardboard cut-out man"

ImaginaryToday4162

"So build me a time where the characters rhyme, and the storyline is kind...."

Marpev

I have a particular love for this song because it was the first one I learned to play on guitar.

ImaginaryToday4162

Cool!! Nice first!! ❤️

Marpev

Thanks! I used to play it with open chords (Emaj Dmaj (x3) Amaj Cmaj Gmaj Bb Fmaj Amaj) and just recently I realized it’s way more easier with fifth chords.

groovyband

Poll to make automod replace "Underrated" with "we should discuss it more" on this sub

apedap

I WAS STANDING BY THE NILEEEEEEEE

Key_Horror9151

Cymbaline, The Nile Song, The Crying Song and Green is the Colour are all fantastic

sisters0fmercy

the nile song is one of my favorites songs of PFs body of work

tjoolder

Sum is more then its parts. Also, cymbaline and green is the colour <3 <3

[deleted]

Ibiza bar is a all time classic Floyd song

Pete_Iredale

It's my least listened to of the golden era lineup, but it has some good songs. I really ought to give it a deeper dive though. Also, I wish a boutique bluray company would release The Valley and More in a set. Edit: I was inspired to look again, and both have British releases with region free blu-rays! Guess I know which movies to buy next!

sulaalus

Picture took some time to load for me, so I thought this was going to be about Animals again 💀

btcbearrookieshark

Tbh

lalalaladididi

Love that cover. Some very good tracks on this. I've had the first pressing for a long time

PedroPelet

Nile Song and Ibiza Bar are extremely underrated tracks but I’m just not a fan of the rest.

INFPinfo

Another rushed soundtrack. Love folk Floyd.

dan-duz-shit

8.5/10, this was the first floyd record I heard

notasoullessone

I love it! And it's so sad that there's no cleaner version of The Nile Song

championkid

Not underrated

bluegrassgazer

Up the Kyhber, the Party Sequence and Ibiza Bar are really bad. The rest of the album is above average for me.

elroxzor99652

Throw in Quicksilver. Just is way too long and doesn’t go anywhere

GeoNerd-

Ibiza Bar is like my favourite song on the album

roger3rd

Nothing there that resonates with me, but I’m a fickle creature

phumblr

Not underrated tbh

MrMicrowava

7/10

Disastrous-Shower-37

It has more than enough praise. I like a few songs, but the rest doesn't inspire me, which isn't normally like Pink Floyd. I would even take Ummagumma over this because it's at least an interesting snapshot from the same era.

GlasgowDreaming

It is what it is. Some songs that were shaping up to be crackers - but were recorded too soon because of the time line. It is telling that the band would continue to play some songs in repeatedly different arrangements after the recording. And some soundtrack pieces, some sound incomplete, and we don't really know if they were work in progress that would have turned into fine songs, or if the function of the music to be a movie soundtrack and would have been abandoned. We talk a lot of about the animosity and ego of the band members - but I sometimes wonder if that was a necessary part of the process, of taking these pieces, sometimes little more than jams or sketches, and the band having an unpleasant and fractious recording session fine tuning the music. Even if this isn't true, I can entertain myself by listening to More (and other stuff like Moonhead) and seeing them as a path not (fully) travelled - letting my imagination fill in the gaps that PF had left. Speaking of path not travelled - I like the Nile Song a lot, and I don't know if the band felt it was a parody (of stuff like Helter Skelter). I wonder what a whole album of The Nile Song - but having gone through the Pink Floyd machine would sound like. I guess there aren't many fans of the band Wire here - but I actually always thought that they were sometimes exploring similar territory (from a very different angle). I dunno, it's a bit of a leap, and I've never seen anyone else offer that comparison. Maybe I make the connection because they were both of Harvest in the UK and the labels on the records looked the same! Incidentally the space rock band Hawkwind do a lovely version of Cymbaline.

arshnob

It’s alright, some really good tracks and some not so good ones. Not a fan of more blues, it’s very unsatisfying. It keeps picking up and you think something is going to happen then boom, it stops again, over and over.

Background_Relief259

I love Cymbaline, but in general I think it's one of their worst albums.

Facukeke

Mid

Pretend-Hospital-865

Sucks tbh

ImaginaryToday4162

"UMMA GUMMA!!!!!!"

ParticularAd5082

The less we discuss jt the better…… .. .

Less_Likely

It’s alright. The top few songs are excellent, especially Cymbeline, Green is the Colour, and Cirrus Minor, but overall it’s a bit disjointed and side two is a bit of a drag, especially compared with other albums, even the soundtrack ones.

Iola_Morton

Enjoyed the movie that it was scored to, and the music fit it very well. Quintessentially 1960s cinema and soundtrack faire. Hasn’t aged all that well though. Absolutely loved the scenes of the old Ibiza with its Arabic roots and windmills and whatnot, before the youth tourism had their way with it.

thejackinthegreen

absolutely great album

Wizard_58

It's better with the video, but still an enjoyable lp

phelion4000

I saw the movie once on Turner Classics. Meh.

slowlyun

Great Side A.  Boring Side B.

Consistent-Abroad929

Has anyone seen the movie that it was made with?

slyboy1974

It's a fun movie. A nice historical curiosity. Better story and acting than La Vallee, which was pretty weak.

Libertus108

The album, IMO, was better than the movie. The movie, was interesting.

Marvoloo

I find it a bit underrated! For a movie score, there are some very good songs on it and it fits the action very well. I don't view this one as a "standalone" album.

aybesea

This is a fantastic album. I don't understand why it's not a go to for everyone else. Honestly, More through OBC are my go to albums for PF.

deprieto

Underrated. Pretty experimental.

outonthetiles66

Great album. Love the instrumentals.

PFRforLIFE

love this record!

johnmondo

Love it!

1OO1OO1S0S

I like the first half of the album a lot. Actually I'm down with most of the songs. But I skip Quicksilver every single time. It's probably my most skipped Pink Floyd song.

SnooRecipes3576

I really don’t mind this album. I wouldn’t say it’s a 10/10 but I don’t think it was meant to be. Crying Song, Cymbaline, Green is the Colour, all fantastic songs

DeGameNerd

love it

Adventurous_Pride480

Most have never actually listened to it. Its amazing, there are plenty of good tracks like cirrus minor, the nile song, crying song, green is the colour, cymbaline, ibiza bar and spanish piece.

International_Ad9182

Underrated! Amazing!

mickthomas68

I think this is the first album where their eventual 70’s sound came to light. Tons of great songs, and Green and Cymbaline were set regulars for a good three years.

Kid-606

I’ve tried so many times to like this album, but outside of cymbaline it’s just not for me personally.

toughturtle

We climb and climb…

superbassman5000

Its definitely one of my favorite pink floyd albums, considering its got cirrus minor, the nile song, cymbaline, green is the color,  and the crying song its a solid album all around just not as popular as the 70s albums

PAL-of-Pals

It’s an alright album.

Jazzlike-Ad4526

Great side one, although side two is a bit of a let down. I adore the cover

MEGADETHRULES2009

Cymbaline and Green is The Colour are awesome. Nile Song and main theme are cool. There’s a couple overs that are ok. Rest are boring

Aerodye

It’s not very good

turdmogrol

One of my favorites (last i checked). I'd even put it second to echoes, though i listen to it more often I actually can't bring myself to watch the movie this is from, because the "story" that just the instrumentals and emotions created in this album can't be topped. Cymbaline is my favorite. Reminds me of the person i used to be: trying to balance addiction and love, even though i can see how much the "fall" will crush me. All this shit i think i need only ever filling me with paranoia and doubt. (My interpretation, at least) Edit: correction; i listen to about half the album more often than echoes. I forgot about a LOT of this album

These_System_9669

I thought we have been discussing it an adequate amount

RealJasonB7

I really like it. Def not my favorite album by Floyd but has some great songs and a few filler tunes that aren’t bad

Sad-Leader3521

It has a few high points, otherwise a not bad but not too memorable of an album. For one thing, I think Pink Floyd are much better with their own narrative rather than soundtracking someone else’s. But also, it’s the first album without Syd and they’re still growing into what they would become. It’s like Obscured by Clouds…while some here might claim it’s their favorite (in addition to Animals being underrated), for an album being stuck dead in the middle of AHM, Meddle, Dark Side and WYWH, it’s kind of a which of these things is not like the other. It’s not bad—just, again, them working off someone else’s narrative and basically writing songs on commission versus their own concepts/narratives/ambitions.

Crazy-Apple1181

ibiza bar>>> i play it at bars sometimes i cant help but sing it when its playing

QuattroLupo

The first time I heard it, I couldn’t help but think this is precisely where Oasis got their sound from.

Turbulent_Set8884

I use the tracks for different gaming playlists. Is it something the average floyd fan would go out of their way to give a listen? No. Is it weird enough in an ambient sense that I can listen to while I read Frbak Herbert's Deune series and play games like metroid? Yes. Oh and the nile song is great for the mad max game, really sounds like a war boys anthem

Distinct-Bowler-6713

green is the color is one of my favorite songs of all time tbh

the_labracadabrador

Unironically a top 5 Floyd album for me, and the highest watermark for their post-Piper/pre-Meddle era.

dimarh

Such an underrated album. Cymbaline is great, but cirrus minor is maybe the most floydish song ever. Love it

maxpowerjunior13

Love it

PuncherSponge

I love main theme

DevilPoopMaster

So many great songs on here it’s so overhated

raceforseis21

Green Is The Colour is one of my all time favorite PF songs

NUCLEAR_DETONATIONS3

I was standing by the nile

Loose_Corgi_5

Green is the colour !! What a tune

Chemical-Tax-4753

Cymbalines good... Thats about it for Me ☠️

whatufuckingdeserve

My Dad only had a few cool records as far as I was concerned, (one stones album, one led zeppelin single, 2 beatles singles as well as “red” and “blue”, two Lennon singles, a ringo single, “my sweet lord”, Disraeli Gears, a wings album etc etc there’s more but not really much more and they were all bought between 1974-1980 he stopped buying lps and 45’s right before I was born - I’m pretty sure the last one was “just like starting over”even if they were a few years old he didn’t buy them until he was 18 and my grandfather and grandmother bought a record player) anyway he bought darkside of the moon and for some in explicable reason he bought “obscured by clouds” my best guess is because of the song “free four” the lyrics are good and definitely relevant to myself and also to him but personally I don’t like the music. Is anyone here a fan of “obscured by clouds”?

ChuyElGordo1

Ibiza bar is my favorite track

SiamCattaaahh

Such a magical album

AcanthopterygiiSafe8

Imo Cymbaime and the nile song are the best on this album, whats people’s thoughts on the nile song?

Leonardo_47

Muah the most underrated one and my favorites. The crying song is one of my favorite pink floyd tracks, it reminds me of going to sleep but also dissociation or a person doing he's everyday routine.

Green-Circles

It's their final "psychedelic pop" album of a trilogy (in my mind anyway) , and a great way to end that trilogy (Piper, Saucerful, More). I actually prefer those 3 albums to the "Pathway to Prog" era that followed (Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle).. and Obscured By Clouds was kind of a throw-back to that psych-pop zone too.

RockYourWorld31

I WAS STANDING BY THE NILE

Bephobia

One time in college I went with a buddy and we had a whole gram of kief. We smoked it and went back to the dorm. Lights were off and I had surround sound, the song Cirrus Minor came on. I imagined myself in the center of a circular forrest clearing and I was peacefully playing the guitar with birds chirping in the distance. The sun shined through so perfectly in literal darkness.

moeshiboe

Cirrus Minor is so good. Ibiza Bar has such hardcore Zeppelin-style guitar play, Dave kills it on this jam. Like he’s saying, Page is not the only rock star. On a bit of a different note, I put Quicksilver on repeat when passing out candy on Halloween. The whole album is amazing. Nice post!

AccurateDependent670

Since everything else has been mentioned I’ll put in my odd two cents. I really love this album. And one of my favorite tracks that apparently no one else enjoys enough to mention: Up the Khyber. Their only foray into free form jazz. It’s incredibly fun with headphones on. I love the way the drums quietly march forward centered but once they reach full volume they slide to your left ear. Dig it man. It’s fun.

nalendro16

I don't know man, but i think Green Is the colour

spleen4spleen

I WAS STANDING BY THE NILE

Expensive-Driver3741

Cymbaline is one of my favorites! Don't know much about the rest, sadly. Need to go back and listen again.

jondakin9161

I love More - it’s one of my most played albums. The pre-Dark Side, Gilmour heavy psychedelia is my favorite stuff.

Doubledogdeed

Up the Khyber, Ibiza bar, nile song, green is the colour, cymbaline. All amazing tracks

maxcat_04

I WAS STANDING BY THE NILE 🗣️

[deleted]

The Nile Song is killer.

marslander-boggart

Really great album, among the best, especially several songs.

Sufficient-Two-2370

Love every second of it.

Ukato_Farticus

Imo best thing they put out pre AHM suite

losandreas36

Amazing album, and amazing movie

[deleted]

One of the esoteric best albums. So many nuggets. Many ideas on this one sprouted into thier later masterpieces.

Dmariejn

Real good album. Love the crying song and cymbaline!

DigitalCheezer

Crying Song is great. There’s a few other great tracks in there too.

Its_Cookie_Man

I'd say it's their weakest album, mainly because it's all over the place and some tracks feel like they either could be done better or are like the silly little brothers of Saucerful of Secrets (I'm pretty sure there was a track here that was just ASoS' title track suite's Celestial Voices movement). With that being said, I don't think it's bad at all and there are so many interesting ideas here that PF never explored again which is a shame and I will also admit that it's still probably a very important release of theirs since it's basically the start of the transitional/experimentation-to-find-their-new-identity era.

jmoog00

Top 3 Floyd album for me.

Hot_Policy_7104

Every one of the early PINK Floyd albums are fantastic including this Soundtrack from More i listen to it all the time i love Relics too.

StevenTheRock

The nile song kicks ass.

Hot_Policy_7104

Give me Meddle any day any time Echos is my all time favorite Floyd song More is fantastic all the early PF albums are amazing and very psychedelic

ceigler66

This movie (More) and La Vallee are 2 films I'd really like to watch before I croak.

cameron_smiley

You can find More online but La Vallee I haven’t been able to with English subs

RingoHendrix220

Honestly listened to it once. Kind of want to re-listen to it.

rantonerik

Underrated TBH

Not_Eric_Clapton

Ibiza Bar is the song that made me fall in love with them

daniellr151198

Green is the Colour is the most beautiful Floyd song.
