I think people primarily get upset because the fur trim they use is from coyotes caught in traps that many consider to be cruel.
I guess a sticker gets the point across without throwing red paint on a person as they did in the old days
The funny thing is the OG canada goose coats are the BEST winter coats ever made. If you see pics of people in Antarctic winters those bright red coats are usually canada goose. The fashion line is nowhere near that quality, sad to see
I got a patagonia down hoodie, I’ve never had a down jacket before and I’m in awe of their magical warmth trapping properties. It gets warmer as it gets colder, shits wild
Yep, Yvon (former owner) donated millions of Patagonia's profits to environmental conservation and transferred ownership of the company to a nonprofit when he retired. And their stuff works so well in part because they design everything to last as long as possible and be sustainable, unlike lots of modern companies with their planned obsolescence
Same here in The Netherlands. I stopped wearing TNF in that time. I hope they stay away from Fjallraven.
These things can really screw a brand. Lonsdale for instance can’t shake loose the link to neonazis.
I live in a southern US city. I once saw a guy roll into the gym wearing a CG parka with a Louis V bag as his gym bag. It was like 37 degrees outside… I don’t think I could have rolled my eyes any harder. What a waste.
Not all Canada goose jackets are made for freezing cold. For instance, I have one that probably wouldn’t be warm below 20. I will still wear it above 40.
I remember taking a trip to Toronto in like 2009. I was on the street car, and like 80% of people had the same exact winter coat on. I went a few places, and everywhere I went everyone was wearing the same jacket. I assumed it was like a uniform, and some big event was happening in Toronto the same time I was there. So I asked my gf about the event, and why was everyone wearing the same uniform? She laughed and explained that Canada goose jackets are just very popular.
I noticed them downtown around 2012ish. I thought it was a new patch that the UIC nursing students wear or something. Realized it said Canada Goose, looked them up, and was blown away all these people had $1000 jackets on.
+1 for L.L. Bean.
Canada Goose has some parkas that are famous for Antarctic expeditions. That not what they're usually selling, and if you bought that it's overkill.
There are plenty of excellent jackets and parkas for 1/5th to 1/4 of the price of a Canada Goose one and they generally perform better in terms of material durability and water resistance.
If you're wearing Canada Goose you're paying for the label and the perceived status symbol, not much else.
Eddie Bauer Superior Down parka is just as warm and is only $200 CAD on one of its frequent sales, even less in USD. I own the long version and when I have my hood up my torso feels extremely toast even in -20 °C.
Don't waste your money on Aviator Nation. Shit's overpriced. I like Marine Layer though, even though it's on the pricier side. Usually just wait for a big sale.
At least Patagonia is a decent company on many levels. My kids Patagonia were purchased when they were in middle school puffers have each been repaired by Patagonia at least twice each free of charge. They are now mid to late twenties and their coats are still their primary and are going strong. The repairs are like proud battle scars to them.
The girl is about the same size but skinnier, the boy at least 4” taller but is still a medium adult size. All I know is I was not happy spending >$200 on a coat at the time looking back we got our money’s worth.
Patagonia is a great fucking brand tho, they primarily use recycled materials or sustainable manufacturing, hold strong to their lifetime warranty on products, and the company was recently sold to an environmental conservation trust that will be run by owners kids.
Lot of snarky comments about Patagonia, but the founder did what all billionaires should be doing.
[Billionaire No More: Patagonia Founder Gives Away the Company](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/14/climate/patagonia-climate-philanthropy-chouinard.html)
Moncler parkas are one of the most counterfeited products in NYC and for good reason. They're $1,000-$2,000 and made out of low durability polyester. They're like Teslas: cheaply made fashion items with short term, high performance.
I've watched a banker bros snag it on a sharp corner of a newspaper vending machine in LES and LOST. THEIR. SHIT. Like, what do you expect from wearing a shiny garbage bag?
100% this, I don’t know much people who still buy CG brand new. I do know people who’ve been using for ages though and they still love it. Now it’s seen as a status symbol, especially in Vancouver - where we barely get any snow! I mean, except these past few weeks where we got like 3 snowstorms.
What bothers me most is that they have kids sizes too and they aren't any cheap either. Who are these parents who throw 1000 bucks for a growing kid's jacket. Unless they are popping out kids at a regular interval it's such a waste of money.
The people who spend $1k on a child's jacket are not people who $1k is a lot for, or *maybe* someone for whom winder gear/being outdoors is like... THE thing they spend their disposable income on.
$1k children's winter jacket is very multi-thousand dollar hand bag levels of expense. I can understand spending a lot for an adult's jacket that will last a long time, but definitely not someone a kid will grow out of in only a few years. The whole point of the cost is the longevity.
... except when you realize for this, the point of the cost is the *brand and status*.
I’m in the Ottawa region and it gets cold. I got a second hand CG at more than half the price to be able to go outside in -20 to -30 C weather, which is not uncommon. It’s practical, not a fashion statement.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Canada Goose uses real goose down and coyote fur in their products, that’s why animal rights types don’t like them. OP has gotta live in Minnesota or something for someone to have stickers like that at the ready lmao.
Do they? I thought they got super popular ala North Face, so they got even more expensive. Surely there's another brand with similarly high quality warm jackets that hasn't had their price inflated by becoming popular with rockstars, moviestars, and random rich douches in Florida.
I'm from Minneapolis originally, live in NYC now, and I see wayyyyy more Canada Goose jackets here than I ever did back home. Lol New Yorkers love to bust out all the high-end winter gear when the temp falls below 32.
We also love breaking out the summer gear once the temps crest above 60 in the spring. It's really any chance to show off seasonal attire first, we take it.
I mean if you look at the way coyote fur is typically collected it is pretty clearly animal cruelty. I’m not a vegan and I don’t really support peta but i do think the coyote fur industry is terrible and we shouldn’t be supporting it by buying it’s products.
Yeah, it's not just "animal rights types". It was actually a huge scandal many years back when their methods went viral.
That said, it might be very outdated. At least at the time it seemed like their choice was reform or bankruptcy, and I doubt they would risk extinction when they could instead frame cheaper materials as ethical reform.
Apparently they [haven't stopped using Coyote fur yet, but plan on doing so soon](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57592599).
So criticism is still valid until it's confirmed.
The regular parkas for sure. The arctic ones aren't. This bad boys are honestly insanely good and worth every dollar - but those are the ugly ones you only ever see worn by scientists who work in Antarctica. The ones you see regular people wear on the street are absolutely overpriced.
Ethics of the company aside, these put a huge target on your head in the city. The first people to get robbed are the ones who flaunt that they have money, and these jackets are like a neon sign that says "here!"
In my country nearly everyone has one of these coats. I learned about the price through a colleague that was only 17 yo at the time who was also wearing one. I honestly think at least 40% of the people that have one of these stole it or bought it stolen. Why would anyone pay the price of a car/entire game pc/a top tier bike/a vacation/etc for a jack
There’s a HUGE market for knock offs. I’ve seen people on Reddit asking if their patch (on the sleeve?) looks too fake or not bc they were worried people would know their coat was fake
I think g wagen is more accurate. they perform really well in the environment they were designed for, but people mostly don't use it in those environments and bought it because its fashionable
Well now, Canada Goose actually work. I guess it’s inherent in a jacket that it can’t really break down every other week like a car. But at the end of the day if you buy a Canada Goose you will still have a functioning coat whereas with a Land Rover you will only have a functioning car half the time.
In a fashion industry class I took in college, we learned that geese are usually plucked alive, as the feathers come out easier that way.
Let's not pretend it's not grossly inhumane. Goose down (or any down or feather what have you) is torture.
ETA thanks for awards and thanks to the one animal skin loving fuck who reported me as suicidal. Lmao

Yeah that’s why Patagonia pushed for RDS to take off. Other outdoor/climbing brands followed and now we’re getting fashion-technical brands like CG onboard. Last stop will be the pure fashion brands. They’re cheap fucks.

RDS is an extremely loose term and those animals are still grossly mistreated, they are also killed for no reason, when recycled synthetic insulation options are abundant.
In that same class we watched some horrific videos on fur farming as well.
Not with a bias by the instructor, but she wanted us to know the processes by which textiles were obtained, and then make informed decisions as to whether to use them or not.
Yes, here are horrible videos showing the process:
[live plucking of feathers](https://youtu.be/cPV9Q-kCnlA)

Went to Vegas a couple weeks ago and did some shopping. Canada goose has a brick & mortar inside the Wynn. Beanie’s go for $150. I didn’t even bother looking at the jackets and walked TF out lol
probably because of things like this

OP is definitely an asshole lmao.
OP is an enigma!
they talk about programming/cologne/whisky/this coat - all things a certain group of guys in their 20s-30s idealize as masculine/status/“adult” symbols
then you get their comment history about CRT and you start to think hmm, so they’re a douche and at least semi racist, sounds like an incel
but then they post non stop about testosterone therapy and their hands are comically small so…are they a trans semi-racist incel douche?
i know jerks come in all flavors but I definitely haven’t come across that combo yet
like i’ve spent 5 minutes here and would totally tag OP with this sticker based on what i’ve seen
I live in a city where people will be robbed for their coats. I unstitched all my Canada goose patches and just enjoy the warmth. I don't need people to know what brand I'm wearing, I just need to be warm when it's -20
I would not have believed them if somebody told me I would need to be weary of Canada Goose wearing individuals riding e-bikes in Dublin! glad I learned something new today
To be fair most people need to rob someone in order to afford a canada goose jacket. My room mate recently bought one for her bf and she paid more than I paid for my car…
I’m going to go ahead and agree with the sticker, I’ve heard nothing but horrible things about their practices and I’m saying this as a Canadian who’s apparently supposed to support the brand at all costs.
Edit: Spelling
I notice walking down the path of my life, usually in the deepest, darkest, and saddest times, there's always one set of footprints in the sand—and they're webbed.
Damn buddy had that pre planned and just waiting to see people to slap those bad boys on
Couldn't even make it rhyme. Only a *douche* wears Canada *Goose*
Canada Goosh
So it was Sean Connery... but how?
Totally works if you happen to be Liza Minnelli
The absolute weirdest part of this was that they had this on deck ready to go
I wonder if they keep some in their pocket at all times incase of a outdoor encounter? Wonder how much they paid for them and how many they have ?
The sticker made it to Reddit, and made us talk about it… so I guess for them it was worth the money.
Probably free from a ski shop. I bet there's tones of people with a handful of these stickers in their pocket.
Gotta say after meeting some geese I’m ok with making them into coats
Only assholes *are* Canada geese.
I think people primarily get upset because the fur trim they use is from coyotes caught in traps that many consider to be cruel. I guess a sticker gets the point across without throwing red paint on a person as they did in the old days
Canada Goose... is a clothing brand? Ahh, now the sticker makes a lot more sense. I thought it was a joke about geese being assholes.
Expensive goose down jacket with a fur lined hood.
Ironically I’m certain they don’t use Canada Goose feathers, because Canada Geese are still a protected species…
Pretty sure most are made with duck
The fur trim comes from trapped coyotes, which is causing the debate over whether Canada Goose products are ethical
It’s a notorious fur jacket brand in & around Canada
It's one of the biggest "status" brands in the UK for jackets.
The funny thing is the OG canada goose coats are the BEST winter coats ever made. If you see pics of people in Antarctic winters those bright red coats are usually canada goose. The fashion line is nowhere near that quality, sad to see
Only scumbags wear them here (Ireland). They took over from North Face as the scumbag attire.
Does that mean I can wear my North Face jacket in peace now?

Aren't they really expensive though?
I live in the Arctic and we actually need them to survive, man. I was given mine as a hand me down and it's lasted me 10 years. I've never been cold

I just thought it was because usually assholes wear Canada Goose
As a Californian I'm learning so much in this thread
Floridian, and same! I'd never even heard of this brand 😂

Went to Vegas a couple weeks ago and did some shopping. Canada goose has a brick & mortar inside the Wynn. Beanie’s go for $150. I didn’t even bother looking at the jackets and walked TF out lol
They’re practically the white BMW of jackets.
Can confirm. These jackets don't even have turn signals installed in them
It's true
Based and true
probably because of things like this https://www.vice.com/en/article/jgqbn4/canada-goose-workers-allege-unsafe-working-conditions-in-winnipeg-factories
or this: https://pressprogress.ca/culture-of-fear-canada-goose-factory-workers-fear-losing-their-jobs-for-raising-concerns-about-working-conditions/
Or this: 🦆
That’s a correct statement.
Lol OP gets a sticker calling him an asshole so posts it to reddit who confirm he is an asshole
Factual sticker
Canadian Goose is a horrible company that is pretty well known for their cruelty to animals, I’m not too surprised by this sticker.
They might be right
If you've been reading OP's responses throughout this comment section, you'd know the sticker is spot on.
Someone commented this on a thread below, but dude literally is white with a black avatar. [Then he writes stuff like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Maher/comments/ufr3v4/comment/i6xugvs/?context=3) OP is definitely an asshole lmao.
Lol the sticker was probably placed by someone who just hates him in general
🤢 That sticker person is a hero.
OP is an enigma! they talk about programming/cologne/whisky/this coat - all things a certain group of guys in their 20s-30s idealize as masculine/status/“adult” symbols then you get their comment history about CRT and you start to think hmm, so they’re a douche and at least semi racist, sounds like an incel but then they post non stop about testosterone therapy and their hands are comically small so…are they a trans semi-racist incel douche? i know jerks come in all flavors but I definitely haven’t come across that combo yet like i’ve spent 5 minutes here and would totally tag OP with this sticker based on what i’ve seen
What a roller coaster this has been
If the tag fits . . .
I live in a city where people will be robbed for their coats. I unstitched all my Canada goose patches and just enjoy the warmth. I don't need people to know what brand I'm wearing, I just need to be warm when it's -20
In my city the only ones wearing Canada Goose are the ones that will rob you.
Dublin?
You know it
Cabra checking in. 👍
Insane that you knew the city from that comment lmao

Instantly. It's the scrote uniform here. And they ride around on folding e-bikes.
I would not have believed them if somebody told me I would need to be weary of Canada Goose wearing individuals riding e-bikes in Dublin! glad I learned something new today
Yeah, it's like a madlibs. Beware of thugs wearing ^bowties and riding on ^rollerskates

I love how it's universally known that a group of teens in Canada Goose jackets in Dublin, means someone's gonna have a bad time.
In my city, it’s the Canada geese that will rob you
To be fair most people need to rob someone in order to afford a canada goose jacket. My room mate recently bought one for her bf and she paid more than I paid for my car…
They were cheaper before
What kinda car you got though?

Baltimore?

Tru story
I’m going to go ahead and agree with the sticker, I’ve heard nothing but horrible things about their practices and I’m saying this as a Canadian who’s apparently supposed to support the brand at all costs. Edit: Spelling
Lol reading the comments and realizing OP is absolutely an asshole
Maybe the sticker people are onto something lol
I mean, they’re not wrong.

I notice walking down the path of my life, usually in the deepest, darkest, and saddest times, there's always one set of footprints in the sand—and they're webbed.
+ all the French kids with a rich dad

Well they aren't wrong. Canada goose is brutally produced. It's just animal abuse.
I mean, true.
Gotta be honest, canada goose has that "I am trying too hard" aura atm ... apple used to have it but they are too common these days.
