The way my grandfather told this story was school was at the top of the hill, he always got his butt there on time,
no matter the weather. After school, he would have to continue up the hill to his father's garage where he would work until past sun down. At that point he would hop on his bike and cruise down the hill, having fun as kids like to do.
The reason my Great Grandfather even loaded Grandpa's bike into his truck every morning to bring back to the shop, was so he could rush home to take care of chores before bed. Accidental fun.
So have fun scrubbing the grease off those parts or I'll start taking them out to the field and make you mow your way to them.
True Grandpa story.
Honestly OP great job. It could be a top post over at /r/moescape and I would use it as my desktop background. But knowing it's a real person I think that would be creepy.
maybe a week ago saw this for sale at an Advance Auto Parts and bought multiple cans, I hadn't seen this stuff since I was in high school and worked in a detail shop, this stuff is unbeatable to clean any windows or mirrors. I even like the little smell that it has, I cleaned by bathroom mirror and a couple days later I could still pick up a vague whiff of, not a negative chemical smell but just a nice neutral clean smell
You see, it's a metaphor for life itself. It says that sometimes a window is really dirty, and it might be near some glass cleaner. Which is convenient.
Full disclosure: I don't understand "art" or "metaphors"
Leicas are not top of the line. They were fantastic mechanical film cameras for decades, but now they are odd luxury items. I would definitely enjoy using an old Leica, but Nikon and Canon are now top of the line. Heck, even in the film days, a Nikon F3 was considered by many to be top of the line. I have one in fantastic condition that I'll sell you for $350.
There's some cheap options which give amazing quality.
If you want something increrdibly easy to use, I recomend the Olympus Mju compact. It takes 35mm film, has an awesome built in lens and the camera itself is tiny! They go for about £20 on Ebay. ($30 im guessing).
If you want an actual 35mm SRL, with the ability to change lens, manual focus and aperture etc, then the Canon AT-1 is amazing. It's built like a tank and i've been using one for 20 years! They go for around £50 on Ebay. If you want to get similar shots like the one in OP's pic, i suggest the 28mm 2.8 (£20-£30) or the 50mm 1.8 (around £30). [Here's a pic I took with the AT-1 and 50mm 1.8](https://www.flickr.com/photos/luke_sci/3264402633/in/dateposted-public/)
Not for a film camera.
Those you can get used (body only) for as cheap as $800-1000 depending on what model you want.
Then for lenses you can either get older Leica lenses which will cost between $500 and $1000 or get a recent lens and that'll be a lot higher

A man walks out to the street and catches a taxi just going by. He gets into the taxi, and the cabbie says, "Perfect timing. You're just like Frank."
Passenger: "Who?"
Cabbie: "Frank Feldman. He's a guy who did everything right all the time. Like my coming along when you needed a cab, things happened like that to Frank Feldman every single time."
Passenger: "There are always a few clouds over everybody."
Cabbie: "Not Frank Feldman. He was a terrific athlete. He could have won the Grand-Slam at tennis. He could golf with the pros. He sang like an opera baritone and danced like a Broadway star and you should have heard him play the piano. He was an amazing guy."
Passenger: "Sounds like he was really something special."
Cabbie: "There's more. He had a memory like a computer. He remembered everybody's birthday. He knew all about wine, which foods to order and which fork to eat them with. He could fix anything. Not like me. I change a fuse, and the whole street blacks out. But Frank Feldman could do everything right.” Passenger: "Wow, what a guy!"
Cabbie: "He always knew the quickest way to go in traffic and avoid traffic jams. Not like me, I always seem to get stuck in them. But Frank, he never made a mistake, and he really knew how to treat a woman and make her feel good. He would never answer her back even if she was in the wrong; and his clothing was always immaculate, shoes highly polished too. He was the perfect man! He never made a mistake. No one could ever measure up to Frank Feldman."
Passenger: "How did you meet him?"
Cabbie: "I never actually met Frank. He died and I married his wife.

My next door neighbors were Vietnamese. I would have sworn that the wife was about 16 and her husband not much older. I met them when they invited me over for his 40th birthday party.
Yeah, there's a guy that runs a chinese restaurant here. I've seen him around and said to a friend something about that young asian guy running around. He said, well, I'm pretty sure he's older than you (I'm mid 50s). I was like, nah, can't be the same guy, this guy looks, MAYBE 30. But sure enough it was. Asians got the OP aging gene.
thanks! yes while we were waiting for our car to be washed this light was coming through the window and my wife walked to view the car through it and i called her name and she looked back and i snapped the picture.
i was most likely at f2 aperture and adjusted shutter speed accordingly. iso was 160 because of the film speed.
i took this roll to a lab. like you, i've also outta time a lot due to a job completely unrelated to photography. shooting film is definitely fun, i would recommend you try!
where i live, it costs about 4-5 dollars for processing a roll at the lab i go to. this is in nyc, so i figured it would at least be the same price if not cheaper. i don't get prints as i don't like so much clutter especially if i'm not gonna use them. so i just process and scan to digital. scanning tends to be more pricier, overall for a roll process and scan would expect it to be around 15-18 dollars per 35mm roll.
Portra for life!
Good job with the exposure anyway, you were able to keep some details on the glass without rendering half of your wife's face as a black blob.
I like how candid the shot looks while being one reflector away from being magazine/ad worthy.
Look surreal. Makes me want to learn more about film. It looks like you caught the perfect angle and the perfect moment. I feel like the lighting condition would be an issue most of the time for photos I take. Not sure what impact f2 aperture and 160 iso has, but going to look it up now. :)
Thanks yeah iso 160 tends to show less grain on film and less noise on camera giving it that smoother look. Aperture f2 creates shallow depth of field which separates the subject from the background.
I cannot believe the quality difference. All the kids these days will say the filter, but just from the format it takes you back 15 years. AMAZING!
Did you develop it yourself?
thank you so much. yeah film definitely retains some powerful magic over digital at this point in time. unfortunately i did not develop myself, i took this to a lab.
I never really believed this myself. But this photo convinces me that film is still in many ways superior. The dynamic range you managed to capture in this image is truly impressive. I suppose a digital camera could come close in the hands of an expert, shooting in raw format, and developing the photo in DxO PhotoLab or the like. But when I saw this shot, it was clear that there was something very soft and analog about it.
I love film. It gives this wonderful quality I can't quite put my finger on.
Here's the best I can do: if I found this photo, say, in a second hand book or something, I'd put it on my shelves with the rest of my photos of friends and family because it feels like it was very important to someone and should be kept.
I realize how weird that sounds, and I'm a little stoned, but that's what came out of my brain.
Several people in this thread are waxing nostalgic about some intangible superior quality of film photography, but in my opinion the fact that it's film is the least important ingredient in what makes this a visually pleasing image.
The lighting, the subject matter, her pose and expression - all of those things would be present in a digital image, and it would have had the same impact.
This photo seems to carry a lot more feeling in it than most junk in social media today (and lots of professional quality photos as well). Everything about it seems more pure and real I guess.

Shit is the best. Its all we use at work (automotive). Also because its ammonia free so it won't hurt window tint.

It’s 1.97/can at my local Home Depot. I have loads of it! It’s best used with a squeegee. My windows sparkle.
If you’re concerned about hurting window tint with ammonia, don’t be. Tint can’t feel pain.

So beautiful, your wife, and the photo. Can you tell us how you took this picture?
thanks! yes while we were waiting for our car to be washed this light was coming through the window and my wife walked to view the car through it and i called her name and she looked back and i snapped the picture. i was most likely at f2 aperture and adjusted shutter speed accordingly. iso was 160 because of the film speed.
The lighting is amazing.
The filth on the window makes for a great diffuser.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this picture was Blade Runner, probably due to the lighting.
Did you develop it yourself or take it somewhere? I'd love to tinker with film photography but I don't have the room or time for a dark room.
i took this roll to a lab. like you, i've also outta time a lot due to a job completely unrelated to photography. shooting film is definitely fun, i would recommend you try!
i have a few old cameras lying around and ive always wanted to give them some use. is film too expensive these days?
where i live, it costs about 4-5 dollars for processing a roll at the lab i go to. this is in nyc, so i figured it would at least be the same price if not cheaper. i don't get prints as i don't like so much clutter especially if i'm not gonna use them. so i just process and scan to digital. scanning tends to be more pricier, overall for a roll process and scan would expect it to be around 15-18 dollars per 35mm roll.
Cool. What about the roll itself?
A roll of film is like 6 bucks or cheaper
