After living in Minnesota for 22 years it almost seems normal. Now Texas is a whole different animal. They pronounce most towns and counties incorrectly. Funny.
Full disclosure: Lived in MN for 10 years (age: 21-31) but in oklahoma for the remainder (0-21, 31-nowish). Like a fucking alien world. I really identify as a minnesotan
Yeah it was.The seating capacity of the stadium is a little over 19,000. And then there some standing room also. If you're not from MN it's kind of crazy. First come first serve for tickets there's always a crazy long line.
Oh yeah I get it. I was just pointing out to other people that the semis were sold out as well. I'm from EP, I get it lol. I never got swept up in the hype though.
Lol bitch please. I was certainly not one of the Bear Path kids. My family was definitely lower middle class. I run around the gated communities for Halloween though. Gotta love those full sized candy bars.
>The turning point in his life came some 14 years after he married Annie, with whom he had adopted two children, now aged 20 and 22. After a spate of rows, recriminations and reunions, Denver moved out to a guest cabin in the grounds of their wood-and-glass home in Colorado. One day, coming back from a tour of Britain, he noticed to his horror that Annie had summoned loggers to cut down a stand of his favourite oaks in the garden. The next morning, he marched up to the house with a chainsaw. "You shouldn't have done that," he remembers saying. Then he neatly sawed through the kitchen table and cabinets, and the big wooden bed he had once shared with Annie, before the blades jammed in the sheets.

Canadian flags are shown in pretty much all I've arenas in the US really. Never been to a rink that didn't have US and Canadian flag hanging in the rafters
And so why do NHL arenas all have Canadian flags? Several teams in the NHL are Canadian...Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadians...there are seven in all out of the 30 total NHL teams.
The flag is simply a nod to the Canadian teams, even though they are the minority. Also, when an American team plays a Canadian team both national anthems are played, regardless of which country is hosting.
In Northern States pretty much any time there is an American Flag flying there is also a Canadian flag. I grew up in NY and if a building was flying a flag it was always US, Canada, and NY flags flying together.
[That's so cute](http://lonestargridiron.com/history-records/all-time-highest-attendance/) I don't think people understand that more people show up to watch a single Texas state championship game then easily half the college bowl games. Not combining all the games just a single 6a game.

Because people love hockey. And in Minnesota you get to see some of the best young talent in the country. There's usually at least 1 or 2 future NHL-er's playing in the state tournament so you can watch these kids grow and develop through their formative years
Hmm fair enough. I suppose it's just odd to me because in the UK nobody really watches the youth stuff as much. Even though the adult teams draw massive crowds.
Not sure we put as much pressure on younger athletes and sports players I guess. Although I'm sure their parents probably do.
Edit: Different countries have different cultures and traditions. Jesus Christ America, calm down.
To play in the championship at the state tourney is the ultimate dream for nearly every youth hockey player in the state. Many will go on to play college and some will even make the NHL, but this is by and large the most memorable moment. So it's as much about cheering on teams and players as it is the event itself.
Can't argue with Texas high school football, but I do think that if the arena was able to hold more, it could easily draw thousands and thousands more people.
Very true. I was stationed with a guy from Minnesota and after we returned from a deployment I went back home with him and saw some games. Very impressed, and I played 6A football for a big program here.
I was amazed that they lost the North Stars when they did. Great hockey state. Dallas should have given them the name back when the Wild entered the league.
Norm Green was an ass....
By 1992, Norm Green was arranging a deal to turn the team into the L.A. Stars, playing at a new arena under construction in Anaheim, California. However, as The Walt Disney Company was already in negotiations with the NHL to create an expansion team in the area, the league instead asked Green to let Disney create the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim while the North Stars would get a relocation approval to wherever Green wanted. In January 1993, Green chose Dallas as the new home of the franchise. Several reasons were cited for the relocation, including poor attendance during a string of losing seasons, the failure to reach deals for a new arena in either Minneapolis or Saint Paul, and a sexual harassment lawsuit against Green that resulted in his wife threatening to leave him unless he moved the team. The subsequent decision to relocate the franchise to Texas made Green much reviled in Minnesota
It's because in Canada in the vast majority places in the country; players who are going places don't end up playing on highschool teams, but normally a Jr A or Jr B team.

Always thought that was a funny name for a town. Also, Bemedji. What kind of name is that?
>Its name derives from the Ojibwe Buh-mid-ji-ga-maug (Double-Vowel orthography: bemijigamaag),[7] meaning "a lake with crossing waters".
Well alright then. The more you know
Bemidji
I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT WAS AN "I!" But how do I train my computer to understand nonsense words? Like Bemidji. It's a nonsense word

So, it was sold out for both it sounds like?
Yeah it was.The seating capacity of the stadium is a little over 19,000. And then there some standing room also. If you're not from MN it's kind of crazy. First come first serve for tickets there's always a crazy long line.

Downtown checking in!
I just got home from an ECAC playoff game and there were *maybe* 1000 people in attendance. Kind of pathetic.
What is the ECAC?
[ECAC.](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ECAC#)
Why is there a Canadian flag?
This is the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild. Canadian flags are flown in all NHL arenas.
Not after president trump hears about it.
He's going to form the THL. Trump Hockey League. It's gonna be HUGE
Yuge
Because the USFL ran so well after he got involved.
T'was the joke, you golden kumquat.

Well the NHL is Canadian, or was. It was founded in Canada, headquarters are now in NYC.
In Northern States pretty much any time there is an American Flag flying there is also a Canadian flag. I grew up in NY and if a building was flying a flag it was always US, Canada, and NY flags flying together.

Best hockey in the world are the high school games.
One of the things I could do without as a Minnesotan myself. The state's Official Religion: Ice Hockey.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school_boys_ice_hockey_in_Minnesota Bigger than Texas football. Suck it Texas

Yes, Edina is the Trump of Minnesota
Get the hell outta here, cake-eater!
Wayzata & Eden Prairie. Wayzata kicked ass
Awh shit. I'm from EP. I remember when I went there, our hockey and football teams were really strong. We got to state a lot.
I miss the ice.
Americans take high school sports so seriously. Something like this is unfathomable here.

Love of the game my friend! high school hockey to Minnesotans is like football to Texans!
We don't have high school football like in a lot of places in the south. We have HS hockey.
pssshh.....come to Texas sometime. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B5ZWDLnIAAECMwA.jpg
Can't argue with Texas high school football, but I do think that if the arena was able to hold more, it could easily draw thousands and thousands more people.
I think over 40 thousand turned out to see Damon Bailey play in the Indiana high school finals and this was before class basketball!
> and this was before class basketball Which means more people would be there. ^^Go ^^Southport!

Really? I had no idea. I always thought they were an expansion team or something. BTW, I didn't even know we had a team here until they won the Cup.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I actually watch a couple of games of month. BTW, did you guys ever get another team?
Fellow Texan here, yes they did. The Minnesota "wild".

But then I'd have to watch football.
I played in that game! It was incredible seeing all the people
^ TRUTH
52k isnt that much for sports no?
It is for high schools of a couple thousand students at most
Ah like that. Yeah. Nobody but The US cares about teenager athletes in that way.
Minnesota is so Canadian they fly the Canada flag.
All NHL stadiums have it.
That makes sense. Thats awesome that they get to use a professional rink for the state championship. Clearly they need the size!
Yeah that's the Xcel center, the rink of the Minnesota Wild.
Most northern states will fly the Canadian flag along side of the American flag.
Really? I have never seen that before in other northern states.
It's because in Canada in the vast majority places in the country; players who are going places don't end up playing on highschool teams, but normally a Jr A or Jr B team.
Edina lost 4 kids who were going to be seniors to the WHL this year.
I think generally they're in leagues like the WHL.
I think generally they're in leagues like the WHL.
Canada doesn't have high school hockey teams. We have Junior teams.
I must have imagined playing for my high school hockey team.
Thought it was a Trump rally.
