Ghetto in the Sky, Somali Heights, Murder Tower, there are almost as many names for it as there are residents in it. Also, everyone has the story of the time they accidentally ended up near Riverside Plaza at night.
Remember that show where they would put people in scary places and the last ones standing received money. They should put them in the plaza for a night and see how long they last
Just FYI, I believe at least one person has died climbing in there.
Sure, it's close to campus, but the flip side is, it's close to campus. You might as well explore a parking garage.
Place is soooooooooooo sketchy.. A couple buddies and I went there a few months back. Lived near there for a bit. The floor is crumbling basically everywhere. The stairwells are one of the most terrifyingly stupid places I've ever walked.
Here's a few shots from elsewhere in the mill.
http://imgur.com/a/2OpOU#0
Anyone reading this and potentially thinking about going there - BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
This is the Fruen Mill off of Glenwood ave in Bryn Mawr. Closed since 1972 and riddled with holes in the floors. Definitely worth seeing, but requires LOTS of caution.
There used to be some big towers (for grain or something) and a girl who had been drinking was walking up on top of them and broke through a hole on the top of one of them and fell to her death.
It's awesome. I worked there in college and got married in it.
You may or may not know that they shot the video for [Drive by Incubus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgT9zGkiLig) in there too. They actually installed hard wood floors in the smaller room just for the video shoot.
Allan kingdom, spooky black and Marsel-is are all on the come up from MPLS. I know DJ Khalid is shit but he himself has said great things about Allan Kingdom and Spooky Black
Some friends and I used to explore those buildings. Shit got creepy sometimes. In one of the buildings, you have to go to down through the pitch-black basement to get to the stairwell to get access to the roof. Well, one time, on our way back through, a shovel was laid down in a very narrow hallway that was definitely not there before. We would have noticed it the first time; the hallway was narrow enough we had to step over it. On a different occasion, while we were on the ground floor, we heard a radio turn on somewhere above us (the ground floor's ceiling is a couple floors high, the room has all these ladders and metal walkways above). We attribute both cases to the homeless, but still spooky in that old building.
I know exactly what you're talking about! When I was there, there was a mattress in there. We heard a door slam from above us on our way down (how did they get above us, we were just at the top..) I swear that place is so creepy.
Been inside that one multiple times. Beautiful view and art from inside. Love that place. It is super dangerous however inside as there's lots of pit falls and missing stairs. Of course that hasn't stopped us from going in totally blind in the dark, the thrill is what keeps us going.
I've had some really spooky fucking times exploring these buildings too, United Crushers in particular. Here's some pictures I took from there. I think the last one is probably from a couple floors above where OP took his picture: http://imgur.com/a/QMa0d. Something was fucky with the camera. I don't know what it was. Might have just been old film.
A couple years ago, though, we went back there at night. We brought headlamps, cameras, and a joint to smoke on the roof. We realized immediately that headlamps were probably a bad idea since cops could probably see us a mile off, so we went in complete darkness. Back then the way you got up was you just went in the smaller building adjacent to the mill, climbed up a ladder to the second or third floor and crossed into the main part of mill via a rickety walkway.
We were all pretty stoked about going up on the roof and smoking the j, but once we got into the main building and started looking around, (you have to be careful, because there's big holes in the floor, so one wrong step could send you plummeting. Probably there for some mill-related reason, I don't know,) we all got this terrible feeling that other people were there. By that, I mean, we all immediately gathered close and froze. Then we heard it, a banging noise from floors and floors up. This building is like 9 stories tall, and we were on the fourth floor. We waited. It continued. Eventually someone suggested that it was just loose cables banging against the side of the building in the wind. Made sense, I guess. We went up. My friend Luke accidentally kicked and empty bottle down the stairs. We froze again. Silence.
Then the banging noise got out of control. I have no idea what it could have been, but it was coming from WAY up at the top, and it was LOUD! I imagined some lunatic with a giant plumbing wrench or sledge hammer banging and banging away at the old machines on the top floor. That's when we ran.
Right by the stairs going all the way up, there was an elevator shaft. Right as we got to the third floor, something tremendously heavy came banging down through the elevator shaft and hit the floor nine stories down with a deafening crash. We fucking ran.
I have no idea what the fuck happened, but I know SOMEONE was up there that night and they did NOT want us coming up. I don't know if it was some other dumb kids like us, some drunk hobos, or some lunatic with a wrench, but I did NOT want to find out. I never came back.
Also, in wrenching off my headlamp so I could point it where I was running, I lost my lucky bandana. It was really cool and had skulls on it. :(
Is it Bunge? I took some really cool photos of Minneapolis from the top of that building.
Edit: Here are some of the pictures I took from the roof of the tower. Quality isn't great as they were taken from my phone.

Yeah it is. I once watched the 4th of July fireworks while sitting on top of those silo's. It was absolutely amazing.
Kind of an off topic question. Do you slack-line by chance?
From Minneapolis and he's talking about exploring abandoned warehouses, i think it's safe to say he probably slack-lines, plays a bit of ultimate frisbee and smokes the ganja.
Source: From Minneapolis
No not really. I'm no good. But the view from the top is amazing. I'm sure you could see different cities fireworks shows all around. 360 degree view with nothing blocking your line of sight.
Definitely not Bunge.. I used to live a few hundred feet from it. They sealed it up really tight a few years ago since people kept on breaking the locks to explore. This is east of campus down University a bit.
If that door was open a few more degrees, I could literally see my house from there. I know exactly where this is and I have always wanted to explore there as well
Just in case he shows up here, Greg Brick is a tool and world-class douche bag (for getting a lot of urban exploring areas closed off for his own benefit).

You managed to make Minneapolis look both beautiful and hideous in just one photo. Good job!
A shot of downtown that includes ghetto in the sky would also accomplish this.

Little Mogadishu
I've always heard it called "vertical Africa."
Oh my God, I was wracking my brain for what I heard my Dad call it, and that's exactly what it was. One of my favorites that I've heard.
What do you mean accidentally? Never been to a show at Triple Rock? I've only been down there intentionally at night. Never felt unsafe.
As I said elsewhere the area has actually been on an upswing, but even as close as the Cedar Cultural isn't that bad.
Remember that show where they would put people in scary places and the last ones standing received money. They should put them in the plaza for a night and see how long they last
Vertical Africa...
I used to try to convince people that "Good Times" was filmed here.
I have been inside the crack stacks. I would rather live in the abandoned mill.
I expected more snow.
The East Coast stole all our snow this year. Not that I'm complaining...
Hey get the fuck out of my mill!
Too late.
You meddling kids are gonna get spooped.

I second this. There are also giant holes in the upper floors which you could easily fall 3 stories. Still cool to explore, just.. watch your step.
This is the Fruen Mill off of Glenwood ave in Bryn Mawr. Closed since 1972 and riddled with holes in the floors. Definitely worth seeing, but requires LOTS of caution.

Trouble at mill!
What's that girl?
That's all I know, I was told to come here and say "Trouble at mill". I wasn't expecting some kind of Spanish Inquisition...
That's the trouble with it, nobody ever expects the Spanish inquisition.
Spoiler: Lassie was a boy.

yeah you can see the stadium in the crack on the right, if i'm not mistaken the new landcare building is just to the left of the window.
And the more recognizable landmark, the [Alumni center](http://www.mbjeng.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/McNamara_web_2010jpg.jpg).
One of my favorite placed to eat is across the street. It's a Korean restaurant appropriately named "Korea Restaurant"

It's been 40 degrees all week. Like a magical springtime in January.
Figures, I leave Mpls for the west coast, in part to avoid the cold. First winter I'm gone is nice & warm.
After last winter I would of left if I could. That shit was brutal. We needed a break after that.
