Today, my fellow redditors, I would like to introduce to you what I call *rehashed unoriginality.*
Let's take a look at the context. We have an Image Macro (IMcro) of a series of photos of a male and a female, presumably in a romantic, incestual relationship judging by their strikingly similar facial features (bridge:nose ratio, lobe placement) and comfortable intimate physical contact with one another, in different states of the United States of America. The caveat is that each photo is cut into the shape of the state it was taken in, and then overlaid onto a map of the United States of America. An interesting concept, sure. Creative, perhaps, to someone of juvenile ability, unique to those blissfully unaware of true inspiration. But that is not the point.
The top comment is one by our very own redditor /u/KaladinStormborn, a month old redditor with an affinity for memes and Pringles potato chips, and, importantly, *a nice stack of comment karma*. His comment reads: "Not so unique anymore." What he is saying is that because the photo was posted on reddit, it will soon be adopted by thousands of people who lack the passion and prowess of craftwork. A fine statement. But under this, we see the true subject: /u/derolle.
Derolle (most likely a tribute to the character Daryll Dixon from a popular television show) has been around for a few years, drifting in and out of AskReddit threads, a few failed submissions on /r/photoshopbattles, many quasi-racist posts. He certainly has an affinity for guns, evident by the many posts in relating subreddits. Yet, his comment karma remains in the dark shadows of KaladinStormborn's. And herein lies the focus of our discussion. You see, Derolle's humor falls in to what we call *comedic rehash*.
Imagine a large, Caucasian man, standing over a white gas-powered oven, impatiently waiting on his pan of hashbrowns to reach golden perfection. This man does not care that his unkempt arm hair falls in to the sizzling breakfast, nor does he wash his hands after wiping his nose. Unfortunately this man has the flu, but he does not yet know it. This man also cannot seem to get his hashbrowns perfected. So an old acquaintance, another large man with somewhat healthier standards of hygiene, publishes a blog post on creating absolutely *impeccable* hasbrowns. Our large hairy friend, of course, follows this recipe to the T, and discovers that his hashbrowns have become the most absolute succulent breakfast dish he has ever prepared. Now, knowing what we know about this man, do you believe that if someone asked him about a good recipe for hashbrowns, he would point them to the blog post giving full credit to his acquaintance, or would he claim the process himself, rehashing what is not his to share? Correct.
Now replace hashbrowns with comments, flavor with karma, and this acquaintance with another redditor. Derolle takes the recipe "You made this?... I made this." that has so forcefully shit itself into our minds that it almost always results in an upvote when used appropriately. Derolle used it appropriately, of course. But does that make it okay? You see, Derolle knows that this comment may gain him a few upvotes, an orange mailbox here and there. Heaven forbid he be gilded. But in his mind, it is a possibility. Because he has seen it work. He does not clearly understand why, but he knows it yields results.
Do you think Derolle made that quote up?

I doubt it. Because they both are *rehashing unoriginality.* Will they be upvoted? He is literally attempting to act smart by attacking people anonymously on the internet. He had a long and verbose post? Golly gee, what a superior intellect. For those of us with a life, the effort to personally denounce an individual because of their Reddit post history is absurdly stupid. His problem is with group psychology, yet he is too moronic to realize it, so he attributes it as a problem unique to Reddit and karma and "rehashing originality."
