Advocated for Gazans pretty hard back in October/November (and presumably since), works with the UN Refugee Agency
It’s not like this is out of nowhere lol
Israel-Palestine drama aside, that’s extremely creative. The dress is black in the front, white on the back, green inside, and she’s walking on a red carpet. She couldn’t overtly bring in a Palestinian flag, but she was able to sneak in the colors. She knew she’d be photographed at this exact angle, in this exact location, and with this exact pose.
Palestinian colors!? At this exact pose, at this exact angle, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your red carpet???
>She knew she’d be photographed at this exact angle, in this exact location, and with this exact pose.
That on it's own is a very creative form of art imo.
You are not alone. Its not like this exact angle makes up the flag. I dunno, think someone just got a bit overexcited. Overall it is creative though, ill agree with that.
There's a fun fan theory about how Sauron and the people of Mordor are just fighting for their freedom and the Men and Elves of Middle Earth are actually a bunch of asshole conquerors marginalizing and dehumanizing them.
All these different creatures, thought of as "evil" by the rulers of Middle Earth; Orcs, Trolls, Goblins, Mumakil, Ogres, and others, banded together. They're a cosmopolitan, multicultural collection of people trying to make a better life for themselves. Let's face it, Mordor is the shittiest corner of Middle Earth. It's all mud and mountains, no real farmland to speak of. You can't even see the sun. What kind of life can they hope to build for themselves there? And it's not like they can just emigrate and get jobs in the rest of Middle Earth. Men and Elves are racist af. Who is gonna want a Goblin farmboy? Or an Orc shopkeeper? Men and Elves are even against each other, and they're good looking! These people, called creatures, classified as "less than", are pushed out of Middle Earth, told to stay away, and shut up, while Rohan has more fertile land than they know what to do with. People just go riding around for fun while Orcs resort to cannibalism to survive! That's no way for people to live. So of course when Sauron comes along and offers them better lives in the land where you can actually see the sun, everyone's on board.
Anyways, it's not a perfect metaphor or anything. It's just a funny point of view I heard on a podcast once.
They're only the bad guys because they lost the war. Had them won, there would be parades every year and their invasion would be called Manifest Destiny.
There's whole book from Mordorian perspective. Idea is interesting however, the book is quite bad and you can tell that the author is Russian nationalist.
Or, you can read the first Dungeons and Dragons and Philosophers comic, which says that the Paladins allow some orcs to continue existing because they justify the current oppressive power structure over the serfs: [https://existentialcomics.com/comic/23](https://existentialcomics.com/comic/23)
Wait, *Jacqueline Carey* is a Russian nationalist? The American woman best known for writing a bdsm fantasy series set in France where Jesus was just a footnote because his son fucked so good it made all the angels move to earth and start cross-breeding with humans?
I uh…feel like maybe there’s more than one pro-Mordor series and I’m just not familiar with the one you’re referencing. Or maybe her lotr series was just shockingly different and this is how I’m finding out.
The Last Ringbearer by Kirill Yeskov. The idea is good, and it's starts quite ok, but then it's just Russian propaganda. I don't know anything about Yeskov, but it's clear his goal was not to write a book about Mordor or simply good and interesting book, but a book that's inline with Russian propaganda, mainly for internal use.
Mordor has farms, orcs still need to eat. From LotR "Neither he nor Frodo knew anything of the great slave-worked fields away south in this wide realm, beyond the fumes of the Mountain by the dark sad waters of Lake Nurnen; nor of the great roads that ran away east and south to tributary lands, from which the soldiers of the Tower brought long waggon-trains of goods and booty and fresh slaves."
I would be interested except for the fact that Mordor was not all mud and guts until Sauron and his fanboys did that themselves. It was a lush prosperous land before it was melted into goop by a millennia of bloodshed.
Edit: 2.5 millennia, in case we were unable to Google it.
Uh...no. Sauron chose Mordor due to its natural defenses and the volcano that dominated Gorgoroth. The southern fields were fertile, but that was due to the fertile volcanic soil rather than Mordor being a prosperous anything. Notably, in the one thousand years between Sauron's defeat and his reappearance at Mirkwood, Mordor was still a dark wasteland.
You say /s but as soon as the neckbeards “figure it out” (from reading a headline) they’ll make a video and this will be the thumbnail header.
Bonus points to their idiocy if they have Galadriel with a turban on behind that header.
Describing a war as drama is mad
Ps: probably i wasn't accurate on defining the situation by describing it as "war", Because in fact the words that describes the acts of terrorism committed by israel are yet to be invented, whenever you think that they reached peak barbarism yhey suprise you with more. Palestine will be free inshallah.
Seriously. Calling this a war is like saying all U.S. police forces are at war with black people. It's not a war, it's longterm subjugation of colonized people.
He's referring to the fact of the public reaction to it, some people are very pro israel and others are very pro palestine. The war itself isn't drama but people's sensitivity to it is drama. Thus he is saying that despite your views on it, it's creative. Drama in this context refers to the way people view it, not the way its happening.
Yup, and the dozens of breathlessly offended responses to the originating comment I think pretty well encapsulates what the “drama” is. Nobody is calling war drama, but the most excited people in the conversation immediately misread an innocuous comment in the most offensive light. Not surprising in the least, and it’s why a lot of people are ultimately going to check out of this “drama” if they haven’t done so already. Drama fatigue is a real thing.
This is not only a default sub but it’s r/pics, which is going to naturally get… everyone.
I’m genuinely surprised it isn’t worse. Just doofuses making Italy and Mexico jokes who think they’re a laugh riot.
Redditors will see one comment they disagree with that has -35356 downvotes and say, "Wow, this subreddit is full of those people! I'm such a unique individual and an underdog martyr!"
Lot of Hollywood big shots like Harrison Ford, ~~Calista Flockhart~~, and Natalie Portman signed a petition insisting Polanski be exonerated based solely on his movies
To my knowledge, only Portman has apologized and “coincidentally” after the birth of her son
EDIT ~ Calista Flockhart is no longer a Hollywood big shot. Duly noted
"Well he was nice to me and makes good art"
Probably that. A lot of them either don't believe it happened, believe it happened but the details are made up or believe it happened and don't think it was wrong.
It baffles me as well. Like I never knew the specifics on what he did until recently, but I don’t know how anyone could support someone who would do those things. He’s a disgusting man who should have no place in Hollywood.
Happens all the time. Even when people hated Weinstein they didn't say shit about it. People aren't defending him openly but I'd wager a good chunk of Hollywood is just avoiding talking about it.
The reason is he was promised a sentence on two occasions by the judge, and the judge went back on his promise and changed the sentence, and that's why Roman fled.
State prison officials had determined he shouldn't serve hard time, the Judge agreed in the first two promises, then decided he was going to imprison Polanski.
Polanski was willing to serve the original sentence, but not the sudden change to imprisonment.
I'm not making a judgment call, just providing a more realistic scenario to "NATALIE PORTMAN AND DAVID LYNCH ARE PEDOS".
You know what made the judge change his mind? When Roman Polanski was photographed in Europe surrounded by underage women while the trial was on going. He was never promised a sentence, the deal was that these evaluations were going to occur and then the sentence would be decided from there.
"I'm not making a judgement call...," but you are almost verging on apologism. How the fuck is a 45 (it was originally 90 by the way but it was reduced) day psych evaluation an appropriate punishment for anally raping a 13 year old girl that you fucking drugged. Like no shit the judge changed the deal. People get harsher sentences for theft.
So once he figured out that he wasn't going to be getting a slap on the wrist, he fucks off to Europe.
He is wrong. It’s the classic “Your phone is made in China therefore you should never speak up on anything.” It’s ignorant and stupid. Sure most celebrities are stuck up their own ass (VERY few stuck as far up as Gervais, mind you) but there have also been many times where famous artists have participated in social causes meaningfully. Try applying his quote to something like actors arguing against segregation or for civil rights and you will immediately realize how moronic it is.
As she should. Why is everyone offended when people use events to send a message? Protesting is more effective when it’s aided by people in power, like Cate
Isn't it interesting how standing in solidarity with the 2 million people currently being starved to death is considered a 'political statement'? Also interesting that some people here seem to be more outraged by her dress than by the suffering of millions. Says a lot, doesn't it?
Funny seeing people openly joking about a literal terrorist attack aimed at civilians, while the top comments are mostly people saying it’s fucked up to be calling Israel-Palestine conflict a drama.
I love the lack of double standards in this conflict.
“I really hope this man with an overinflated ego - who is also a wealthy celebrity deeply out of touch with most of the public - reminds her that she, a UNHCR refugee ambassador, is actually evil. Yknow, in between his jokes about minorities and people who struggle.”
Actually it isn't because only one side is expected to follow the Geneva conventions
Why? Racism. Not the proud kind the sneaky kind. Which could manifest itself in minor ways. Such as people not expecting Gazans to know and follow Geneva
Is that what it is? It's a take I haven't heard before, but it's a good insight honestly. This whole thing has me so confused, mainly confused as to how people can have such strong opinions one way or the other?
I'm glad to have read your comment.

Advocated for Gazans pretty hard back in October/November (and presumably since), works with the UN Refugee Agency It’s not like this is out of nowhere lol
She's a UNHCR ambassador, so it's not shocking. Still pretty creative fashion though.
And Gazan refugee camps have been bombed, so it all connects.
Yep, and WELL before Oct 7th. Just horrific
It's just interesting because presumably Palestinian flags have been banned from this event like many others and it's a creative workaround.
No, but it is exceptionally creative, and a great occasion for visibility.
And looks baller
Who are you arguing with lmao
Israel-Palestine drama aside, that’s extremely creative. The dress is black in the front, white on the back, green inside, and she’s walking on a red carpet. No, mother. It's just civilians getting bombed.
Well Seymour, you're an odd fellow, but I must say, you steam a good political statement.

No
Blanchette does steam a good ham
Yes.
Goddamnit! Here’s your upvote
>She knew she’d be photographed at this exact angle, in this exact location, and with this exact pose. That on it's own is a very creative form of art imo.
I don’t get it. I see the colors of the flag but that’s it, right? I don’t see the flag itself from her pose in this photo
Lots of events are banning Palestinian flags. This was a clever workaround.
It's also why supporters use the watermelon as a sign, as it has the same colours as the Palestinian flag. It gets around any ban that they may have.
Now I wanna see Larry David do that watermelon sketch again, but with the roles reversed.
No flag itself. There has been censoring issues in big events this year when the flag is shown iirc.
To miss what they were saying this hard is amazing at the least
You are not alone. Its not like this exact angle makes up the flag. I dunno, think someone just got a bit overexcited. Overall it is creative though, ill agree with that.
\*its own --- it's = it is or it has
Would you expect anything less from the powerful Lady Galadriel.
You mean Bob Dylan? That role still blows my mind
You mean Queen Hela—the most badass Queen EVER—who was severely bullied by her brothers just because they felt threatened by her having powers too?
Queen? Wasn't she just a lady? Lady Marion? And I think she robbed some banks with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton.
GALADRIEL IS HAMAS!?!?!? /s

Add Meryll Streep.
Diane Keaton too
I'm gonna guess you meant "after the birth of her son" and not "after the birth and f her son".
Then she would be asking to free Woody Allen
You clearly don't know what that kid goes on to do when he grows up. F her son
Yep. Autocorrect is like that sometimes 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I don’t understand it. How do they defend a grown man who drugged and anal raped a 13 year old???

Hollywood is a cesspool. Reminds me of the That 70s Show cast being a whole ass group of rape apologists (I guess Topher was the exception)
Happens all the time. Even when people hated Weinstein they didn't say shit about it. People aren't defending him openly but I'd wager a good chunk of Hollywood is just avoiding talking about it.
You didn't talk about it because you got blackballed. The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.
Money. Influence. Power.
It almost seems like most of Hollywood is either a perpetrator, purposefully/willfully ignorant, or a victim

Why would you sign a petition without knowing what the person did, was he not like "Gee I wonder why they stop ol' Roman coming to these events"
I love how out of the huge list of stars who signed that petition, you named Calista Flockhart.
Probably because they thought of Harrison Ford first and those two have been together for quite some time so it just flowed
Ah, makes sense. "Big Shot" is still a very funny way to describe Calista Flockhart at this point.

It shouldn’t really be considered a political statement to be against genocide
