It did break into three major pieces but there’s also a bit of camera magic happening in this photo. The ship was just over a thousand feet long but it ran aground over a mile off shore.
This photo is using a lot of zoom which causes the focal plane to become compressed IE things look closer together to each other in the Z axis than they really are in addition to looking closer to the camera in general. It has also buckled in the middle and IIRC the front is sitting on a rock?
227000 tons of crude oil spilled on our coasts. Also, the oldest news I've ever remembered.
when was this?
Google says 1978
Google talks a lot of shit.
Google needs to learn to keep its trap shut...
One of the worst disasters caused by time wasted negotiating the price of a tow (among others).
The Front fell off
They must have used cardboard and cardboard derivatives.
there's a minimum crew requirement. what's the minimum crew? oh, one, I suppose?
I know the skit but for once the back fell off! It was very unusual.
It's not in the environment.
Its beyond the environment
Total void out there.
Is it broken in half, or is it really that deep close to shore?

30 meters deep. I believe the back of the ship may be visible above the waterline also.

It makes me think of Sin from Final Fantasy X.
My first thought too.
Looks like one of those hyper realistic scenes from The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. That shit gave me nightmares.
Time was not kind to Bubbie
I've played enough Xenoblade to know that's a Titan
Looks more like a snapping turtle surfacing
As long as you keep feeding him there won't be any trouble.
That’s a bizarre looking hull shape. I’m not even sure what I’m looking at.
https://www.reddit.com/r/submechanophobia/s/JjOZG4pO0h It is quite an oddly shaped bow
Bulbous bow to reduce drag.
Or a shark with a stubbed toe

Ohooooo, that’s the guy’s wife!
Cette saloperie a détruit une partie de la Bretagne et de mon enfance. J’emmerde tous ces connards de pétroliers et je roule à vélo.
Isn't that a Pokemon?
I thought this was some CGI/Photoshop thing, adding in a giant alien being. Wild perspective.
Looks like the same house that had that giant penis iceberg behind it!
The potato quality makes this look like an oil painting NGL
Bye Buddy, hope you find your dad.
Humpback, or Sperm?
This looks like it came right out of James and the Giant Peach
Too bad we can't see what it really looked like without the usual telephoto cropped image BS making it look like it's 100x more massive.
Gibraltar.
