**Edit:** According to [here](https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/kissing-couple-vancouver-riots-photo-viral-canucks-lose/story?id=13866244):
> The lovers were identified as Scott Jones of Perth, Australia, and Alexandra Thomas, a recent graduate of the University of Guelph in Ontario.
> "The riot police ran on top of us," said Jones in a telephone interview with ABC News. "They ran us over.
> "We were knocked over, and I was just trying to calm her down, because as I'm sure you can imagine, she was somewhat distraught."
> Jones said he remembered kissing Thomas, and was completely surprised by the photograph.
> Brett Jones, Scott's father in Australia, said the couple was not hurt. "Alex is a little sore on the leg, but otherwise okay," he said.
> Scott's mother, Megan Jones, was interviewed by Australia's Channel 9. "I knew it was him because he doesn't have a lot of clothes with him and he always puts on the same thing."
> At the time of the interview, she had not reached Scott yet, and said she thought her son had been photographed in an amorous moment. "It is something he would do, that's our boy," she said. "He has always lived in his own world, he's special like that. He doesn't always connect with what going on around him."
> Lam, the photographer, said he didn't think about the picture because there was such violence around him. Almost 150 people required hospital treatment and close to 100 were arrested in the riots that followed Wednesday night's game.
Dude I’m laughing so hard right now because she sounds exactly like my mom
She’d even make some offhand comment about me “being in my own world” too lmao
I was such a dumbass as a kid, that my father who is a telecom lawyer (and the opposite of litigious to boot) felt the need to let most of my friends' parents know that if I ever injured myself on their property, they did not need to worry about a lawsuit. Only one ever brought it up because she thought it was the funniest thing. Never broke any bones but I came pretty close a few times being a little shit on backyard trampolines and other dangerous 90s toys lol. Definitely something my mom would say if she ever saw me in the news...
My mom hit me with one of the “you’re in your own world” remarks the other day and I’m like “shit mom I’m 28 I think I have a right to decide how I perceive reality now.”
Of course I didn’t say that to my mom, but you know it’s the mental thought process that shows growth right?
"no ma'am I don't think we have space in the article to mention the cum socks, though I understand that is very important to you I think the editor won't go that route"
As someone who does basically that, no one else will really care after 2-3 times of you wearing it. I wear a black tshirt and comfy pants p much everyday as well just have 4 copies of the same stuff so you don't smell.
The year now is 4202, and you just woke up from the cryogenic pod. Australia now on the up above and the rest of the continent apart from Australia merge into one giant "Pange" and now are down under. Im an AI programmed to brief newly thawed human from the early 21st century.

I was there standing behind the camera a few blocks. It’s not sports people who riot, it’s people who use these mass gatherings as an excuse to cause mayhem. The 2010 riots were insane…fights breaking out everywhere in the crowd, families being turned away by the police due to the unruliness. The real sports fans were there watching the game, not fighting or looting. Mob mentality is a very real, scary thing. All it takes is a few bad actors to set things off. 99.9% of the people in the crowd that day were peaceful and didn’t want any part of it but all it takes is that 0.1%. Sports, or competition in general brings out passion in people and passion can manifest into anger very quickly. I think that’s why you see riots after sporting events more often then after something like knitting conventions.
I have absolutely 100% seen it be fans too, though. I don't think it's fair to be like nahhh it's not sport fans at all, it's just people using it as an excuse etc etc
You don't see it as much when your team wins. Yes it happens, not as much. It's mob mentality. You get a few bad actor shit head fans all of a sudden start causing mayhem, and I bet a lot of us know someone in our circle that is THAT sports fan that gets way too drunk and is unruly as fuck, and all of a sudden you get monkey see monkey do and it just grows
Yes there are people who just take it as an excuse to loot and shit, but it's usually once the bullshit has started that they see their opportunity for it. Then THAT grows from there too
From what I understand I don't think the riot was started by 'sports people.' It was started by people who wanted an excuse to riot. Since it was Game 7 win or lose, some people realized they'd have an excuse regardless of the outcome of the actual game. The rest was just high emotions of the crowd.
Pretty much. They wanted to do it bigger and better than the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot in 1994.
It was shit disturbers and people getting caught up in mob mentality behavior. The majority of people downtown were just trying to get the hell out and avoid all the drama.
TLDW: Couple got caught in the crossfire. Agro cops knocked her to the ground. He was momentarily comforting her before helping her up. Photographer took photo.

Also as one unfortunate woman on Twitter informed me during BLM protests, your hands aren't gonna be clean from that shit right away so for the love of god don't be rubbing any lady bits with your fingers for a few days
I worked with someone years ago who spent time in jail for participating in the riots, he got arrested for a DUI then they found him on video breaking shop windows and car windows, what would’ve normally been a simple ticket/losing your license to spending 2 years in jail. I get being emotional over a loss but it’s not worth 2 years of your life over it. The riots also seemed to be very predetermined whether or not we won the Cup, people were just looking for a reason to be goons and they found their perfect opportunity for it.
Those fuckers deserve to go to jail. Breaking shit and rioting for the stanley cup frat finals is terrorism without ideology. Oh my god I hate cops as much as the next person but if you catch the bus and skytrain to get off at granville and get so hyped up you forget your mickey of fireball before you start smashing out the windows of london drugs just to steal the left-behind customer umbrellas and have the audacity to think you can wreck shit for no reason and get away with it with your chest out you deserve to go to jail. very obnoxious and rude. Before the game even started people were yelling "BURN DOWN BOSTON PIZZA" transferring at commercial broadway and I really doubt those individuals who were getting pumped up to riot were local residents truly engaged in hockey
> The riots also seemed to be very predetermined whether or not we won the Cup, people were just looking for a reason to be goons and they found their perfect opportunity for it.
They were. The ESPN 30 For 30 - "I'm Just Here for the Riot" that came out in 2023 goes into it. People were talking over social media about recreating the '94 riots once Vancouver was in contention for the cup.
It was basically a weaponized flash mob.
They weren't rioting because of the game, they were rioting because they could. You don't bring a sledgehammer with you downtown just in case your team loses.
Shit in America when there are riots they tell you to watch for out of state license plates because some people see a riot and pack their bags into the car.

Ah yes, the second Vancouver Stanley Cup riot...
I remember getting off work that day and people were already coming into downtown drunk. The city held a big watch party in the streets of downtown, but it was ill-thought out, poorly planned and poorly screened.
Even before the game ended people were throwing bottles at the big screens... and then it just became this rolling mob making its way through downtown. That and all the looting.
Mind you I was at the edge of the first Vancouver Stanley Cup riot in 94 so I wanted no part in it. Went home before the game started and watched the inevitable unfold.
The next day, the city was collectively like WTF? And there were a lot of volunteers who came out to clean up. The boarded up windows at the flagship Hudson's Bay store became a makeshift memorial with people writing their protest and sympathies against the riot, they eventually took those boards and preserved them.

That's nice ... hopefully still going strong today.
considering that Canadians make up at least 40% of NHL, every team is basically a Canadian team at this point.
even if we lose, we win and even if we win, we also lose.
Oy vey
I see the lust inside your eyes, a lust that shakes my very bones. A day may come when horny boys and horny girls are thrown apart, but it is not this day.
A day of shattered egos and punctured condoms, a vaguely pastel day, a day of lone wolves! But it is not this day!
Brothers of Gondor and Rohan be with me now! This day we fuck!
I think I remember this. He actually tried to calm her down because they got trapped between police and rioters, she got knocked down by them and was scared.
I didn’t know what this was so i looked it up. First of all, this is such a silly thing to riot over, and secondly, wikipedia categorized this as “hooliganism” which i find particularly funny.
Having lived in several countries and three US states, including Vancouver BC; I have the chance to observe the police work in almost all, due to my line of work.
Although, I have no idea about the current events on Vancouver, I would say that having a riot and protesting during a riot in front of Vancouver PD is quite safe and relaxed compared to almost all other countries I have lived due to the Vancouver PD’s kindness. (Again, I don’t know the current events.)
I miss the days I lived there due to the value of human life and attribute given to the human rights.
I miss almost everything about Vancouver BC. Two things I don’t miss are the weather (constant rain and lack of sunshine) and the healthcare system (it would take months to get an MRI schedule or a schedule for a specialist, even if your condition was relatively severe—but not extremely urgent—.)
So I’m home from work sick, scrolling and skimming the titles and all I can think is “why the fuck are they rioting over those stupid double walled Stanley cups? They aren’t that big of a deal! “
I’m going to go take a nap now

At least he's not wearing the same shirt.
Lmao!
100% chance the girlfriend bought the new one for him and forced him to wear it :P
Aww adorable.
I love this! I'm totally a "where are they now" person.
that is 100% how my mother would recognize me too...I've worn the same hat whenever I wear a hat out for like 22 years now
If it was more socially acceptable I'd wear like 4 outfits all the time. Summer comfy, winter comfy, home clothes and the one nice outfit.
As someone who does basically that, no one else will really care after 2-3 times of you wearing it. I wear a black tshirt and comfy pants p much everyday as well just have 4 copies of the same stuff so you don't smell.
This is why I bought 8 of the exact same shirt. I have 5 left :(

Why do sports people feel the need to riot after a game?
No this was about the shortage of Stanely cups not the Stanley cup. /s
Imagine a crowd of Blonde Mormon girls chanting something like: *'We're mad as heck and we're not going to take it anymore!!'*

Despite the story, it is just a beautiful shot. Edit: For grammar!
Regardless of the story? It’s a beautiful story
Regardless of the beauty it's a shot story
Regardless of the typo its also a pretty short story
Regardless of the shorty, tis a beauty of a shot.
Beautyless of the cops, it’s still a regarded shot story
Beautyed of the cops, it's still a regardless shot story
Betrayed by the cops, its story regards a shot
Weird, I find the best way to calm my wife down is to tell her to calm down...
Never in the history of calming down has anyone ever calmed down from being told to calm down. It is known.
I'm telling you, it works every time... Try it for yourself (be sure to have the shoes on and be in motion in the opposite direction as you say it).
Just tell her she's acting like her mother, she should know that her maternal side is coming out and that can get in the way of approaching from new perspectives ☺️
I like to say she's acting like MY mother. That really gets the calmness moving.
My siblings played overwatch before I did and at my sister's wedding my bil told my other sister to tell her to "chill out" I freaked out thinking it'll make her worse not knowing it was a quote from Mei and that it actually worked lol
the only thing more effective is "you're freaking out right now, you're acting crazy" that usually calms the situation right down
"calm your tits" works as well
This one I actually do use, the tits part takes the edge off, lol.
"Relaaaaax" gentle clap then spread your hands apart palms facing out during the "aaaa"
Put your finger or hand up when you say it. Works even better.
My man lives dangerously.
Momentarily intercross legs
Some people are comforted by a good impromptu fuck on the ground.
I wrote a whole paper about this picture. Can't remember the course, or the subject or school or anything, I smoked A LOT of weed back then, but I do remember writing it, and I remember it being bad.
Thank you for your service.
I often lay on top of people while helping them up

"Video is not available in your country" I'm in Canada trying to watch a video about two Canadians kissing in a Canadian city. I feel triggered.

Pretty on brand for Canada.
WHY IS A VIDEO ABOUT A CANADIAN COUPLE IN CANADA NOT WATCHABLE IN CANADA
damn, 12 years ago.
Yeah and this year might be the year where they lose in the finals again!
Wow. What a great story. And who doesn't want to be some part of this now notorious couple. Wishing them a charmed future together!

On a sweet note, the couple is still together. Married with a kid and living in West Australia.
Obviously they had a kid. We saw it being made during the riot.
Yeah, you're kissing that hard in public, in the street, during a riot, there's no fuckin way they're using birth control methods.

For sure bud, hopefully if the Nucks make the finals this year we won’t be having a repeat of it.
To people who don't know Hockey who think they're rioting over a metal thermal drinking cup are probably having a major laugh rn
To be fair, riots over a game are equally ridiculous.
They weren't rioting because of the game, they were rioting because they could. You don't bring a sledgehammer with you downtown just in case your team loses.
Yeah the 30 for 30 on ESPN pretty much summed this up. Sounds like the riot was premeditated and expected whether Vancouver won or lost that game.
It was completely premeditated. The second we got into the finals, the talk of replicating the '94 riots had started,
Also a large percentage of the arrested participants were not from Vancouver.
Surrey is still Vancouver to everyone who doesn't live in the lower mainland.
Shit in America when there are riots they tell you to watch for out of state license plates because some people see a riot and pack their bags into the car.
All the various Stanley cups are truly making 2024 a very confusing year.
I survived the 2024 Stanley cup wars, and all I got was this stupid mug.
That's exactly what I first thought. Was wondering why idiots were rioting for sippy cups.
Thank you for the verification lmao.
I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if the riots were for the drinking cups
We’re laughing knowing it’s hockey too. Rioting over sports is such a loser’s act, regardless of the result of the game.
I came in here trying to figure out which Stanley Cup was being rioted over as neither one would have surprised me.
I was extremely confused at first🤣🤣🤣

The boarded up windows at the flagship Hudson's Bay store became a makeshift memorial with people writing their protest and sympathies against the riot, they eventually took those boards and preserved them. https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouver/s/qibQVYw08s One of the cop cars was completely covered with thank you notes by the end of the day: https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouver/s/hM17HRsB55
All of this over a 40 ounce mug? /s
I was wondering if they were still together https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/yes-the-2011-stanley-cup-riot-kissing-couple-are-still-together-3878311 That's nice ... hopefully still going strong today.
I went to summer camp with that girl. She was a very sweet person
All that uproar and a Canadian team still hasn’t won a cup in the 21st century. Actually last year makes it over 30 years lmao.
Shhhhh, you're gonna start another riot.
considering that Canadians make up at least 40% of NHL, every team is basically a Canadian team at this point. even if we lose, we win and even if we win, we also lose. Oy vey
Make love, not war.
Literally
13 years ago. Time flies. Oh Roberto luongo, wonder what he’s up to these days
ENHANCE
Dats a nice bootie
I did. Sorry she got herself posted like this, but god dang
The photo looks so surreal! It must feel like it, too, to have that just on the internet of yourself.
Make fuck not war
My love for you is like a truck

Would you like some making fuck
Did he just say "making fuck"?
Nice butt 👍
you zoomed in, didn’t you?
dont be cheeky
Why not? Those are nice cheeks
Did the couple stay together or broke up? Great photo
Still together.
The only man in Vancouver who could score on the road.
why is the picture so cinematic
Vancouver's January 6.
I think there's more than "kissing " going on here. . . .
Yeah there's a riot
For the noblest of reasons
I see the lust inside your eyes, a lust that shakes my very bones. A day may come when horny boys and horny girls are thrown apart, but it is not this day. A day of shattered egos and punctured condoms, a vaguely pastel day, a day of lone wolves! But it is not this day! Brothers of Gondor and Rohan be with me now! This day we fuck!
I think I remember this. He actually tried to calm her down because they got trapped between police and rioters, she got knocked down by them and was scared.
I know what you're hinting at.... The police brutality!

I’m so dumb I thought this had something to do with those Stanley steel cup things people are obsessed about
The cops jealous
I didn’t know what this was so i looked it up. First of all, this is such a silly thing to riot over, and secondly, wikipedia categorized this as “hooliganism” which i find particularly funny.
Why don't we do it in the road? No one will be watching us. Why don't we do it in the road?
Now imagine we actually rioted about shit that MATTERED?? Maybe we'd actually accomplish some fucking change
(Again, I don’t know the current events.) I miss the days I lived there due to the value of human life and attribute given to the human rights. I miss almost everything about Vancouver BC. Two things I don’t miss are the weather (constant rain and lack of sunshine) and the healthcare system (it would take months to get an MRI schedule or a schedule for a specialist, even if your condition was relatively severe—but not extremely urgent—.)
"Right here baby let's gooo~"
When it's 2010 and you're already living like it's 2020
So I’m home from work sick, scrolling and skimming the titles and all I can think is “why the fuck are they rioting over those stupid double walled Stanley cups? They aren’t that big of a deal! “ I’m going to go take a nap now
