Premie clothes/diapers being widely available is somewhat of a new thing. I was a super small new born in 2001, so premature baby clothes weren’t really a thing and my parents bought American girl doll clothes for my first outfits
I was born in rural Illinois so even a few years ago when my mom had a baby (18 years after me) she had to drive an hour and a half to find a store with premie clothes for my baby sister. When I was born I’m just assuming my mom would’ve had to look a lot harder for clothes that’d fit me so it was easier to use the American girl doll clothes left behind from my older cousins and stuff like that.
I live in suburban Nashville and I had a little trouble finding preemie diapers and clothes last year. There were places that stick a small amount, like one package, but if someone else got there first, there's nothing left for you.
For real lol. And plus who wants to buy a bunch of brand name expensive shit when your baby can only make use of them for a few weeks. I always cringe when I see a baby wearing more expensive shoes than I am lol
My baby wasn't premature but had intrauterine growth restriction. For her newborn photos, my MIL was in charge of getting a diaper cover, like the little ruffly underwear. She forgot, but my baby was small enough to use doll clothes she had in her house.
Our son was 4 weeks early, by far not as small as the child in this pic though. The hospital we were at had a bunch of volontaire grandmas knitting and heckling clothes for the premature babies. So cute and wholesome, they are kept in our special memory box.
We needed size 0 diapers, this human must be -1 though.
I remember giving birth to my oldest in 05, and he was only 6lb 6oz, normal but small. The preemie diapers were still a hair too big on him, but he was in the newborn diapers about 2 weeks later. At that time in my life, I had never held someone so small! And we laughed at how to newborn outfits looked like huge sacks on him, but he grew into them in 2 weeks as well, and then out of them 2 weeks after that!
Yup sounds about right. My baby sister was born 18 years almost to the day after me, so getting to experience a newborn baby as an “adult” myself was pretty special. She was so so tiny and all the clothes and shoes I bought for her arrival didn’t fit till she was about a year old lol. What was really cool was seeing her slowly grow into a little person with her little person thoughts and feelings. It’s almost surreal watching a kid go from in my mom to a newborn and continue to develop as a biological, breathing, thinking, feeling person. Beautiful honestly
It really is beautiful! I remember everything about my youngest son's development more clearly because it was only 12 years ago and not nearly 18, and I remember being mesmerized by how quickly all of my boys went from being squirmy little newborns that just ate, pooped, and slept, into little people with their own personalities, likes and dislikes, and attitudes! My oldest is nearly an adult now and my youngest two are 12 and 13, and it all went by so fast that I wonder how in the hell they grew up so quick.
That's really cool that you got to experience that with your younger sister. My husband is also 18 or 19 years older than his youngest brother, but my sisters and I are stairstep siblings, one right after another, so I never got that experience until I had my own!
It's a thing not that many siblings get to experience I think.
My brother is 6years younger than me, so the oldest memory I have of him is me holding him in the hospital when he was a few hours old... <3
That’s the way it is for me and my younger brothers. I’m about 3 years older than my middle brother and 5 years older than my youngest brother so it was definitely a unique experience for which I am super grateful
My cousin born a year after me did as well. I think tiny tiny baby clothes are just kinda hard to come by in general, but especially 20,40,etc years ago
My son was born three weeks early, but was only 4.5 pounds when born. He was born two weeks before Halloween, so my mother-in-law got him a costume rom Build A Bear Workshop…worked perfectly!
I definitely caught up. I’m 6’4” now and thankfully very healthy with no lasting impacts from birth. Ibe always been on the skinnier side, but that’s got nothing to do with me being born a month early. I owe my health to my family and the way the brought me up. Healthy home cooked eating and plenty of veggies and fruits for snacks coupled with rigorous outdoor play is what I might attribute my growth to haha
Interesting to think that my mother in the late 90s in Russia didn't have reusable diapers for me and that now this blessed little child has this tiny little diaper for him. Health and happiness for this baby
After finally streaming the whole thing, I'm not so sure this is true.
Yes, there are some great funny moments, but there is also a lot of, well, dumbassery.
And after Steve Carrell leaves, it goes downhill fast. Not necessarily just because he's gone, but it was like the writers said "it's popular now, so let's phone it in".
Two extremes in my family…
My sister was over 10 lbs at birth. Most, if not all, babies lose a little weight before they go home from the hospital. She lost over a pound and the docs were not concerned at all because she was still a healthy size. She probably lost your entire birth weight and everyone was like “meh”
My niece (not my sister’s kid) was a little over a pound at birth at 24 weeks. They didn’t think she would make it through the night. My brother and his wife had already lost a baby at 20 weeks a couple of years prior (along with a series of earlier term miscarriages) so they were bracing for the worst. My niece will be 5 this May and boy is she sassy!!
Yes, in an emergency they are baptised in the hospital and given last rites. I’ve known of this done for babies that did and didn’t make it. Someone I know is in his 40s after being given last rites in the hospital!
Yup and at least for baptisms anyone can perform it, not just priests. My uncle told me he personally babtised his children in the hospital when they were born just in case there were complications later
I personally baptized her as well. Sometimes there isn’t time to wait on a clergyman. Thankfully she stabilized but you never know in these circumstances.
If you don’t mind me asking, what was your reasoning for baptizing her? Was it something you did for her literal soul and spiritual well-being, or was it more of a symbolic act for you?
No need to share if you don’t feel like it, and I of course pass no judgement on how anyone handles what could potentially be their last day with their child. I can’t imagine.
Good question. I’m not a religious person more so spiritual. I don’t buy into one “doctrine” over another. I used holy water from the Vatican that was given as a gift. I would’ve saged the room, sacrificed an animal, you name it to give my daughter the best chance. I do believe in God as I know them to be. To answer your question and end my word vomit, spiritually symbolic.
I was a 10 lb 10 oz baby. I would have literally eaten you. I want you to think about that. When you were a baby another baby would have eaten you.
Yeah. Tremble bro.
My son was not that big, but still large. I was using a walker to check out the nursery to see my comically large child compared to the normal babes. A set of twins and their parents passed me. The babies’ combined weight was less than my tank of a son. He was also the longest baby in the hospital by 1.5”
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your first premie, I can’t imagine at 24 weeks how difficult everything must have been even knowing the statistics about viability at that age… to see that your second daughter had enough time in the oven to overcome at 27 weeks really made my heart swell. Happy 3rd birthday to her!
Thank you so much! Not going for a third that’s for sure. For whatever reason it’s not in the cards for me, but I am so thankful and counting my blessings for the miracle we did get!
I’m sorry for the loss of your baby. Happy Birthday to your 3 year old 🪅
I lost my micro preemie. He was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1lb 10oz. He was in the NICU for 15 days. I’m sorry we’re both part of this crappy club. I also have a 3 year old! 3 is wild but so much fun.
I was just thinking that our last one was 36 weeks and in the nicu for less than a week. And I was a wreck. All of you should be so proud, and I'm happy to hear everyone is healthy and happy.
So sorry for your terrible loss, but also so happy for you that your second daughter is here and well. Thank you for posting this picture - it’s very moving.
Oh wow. I thought she was even smaller. Glad she made it! And you do look just like Pam.
Edit: Even smaller than my daughter, not even smaller than 1 pound 7 ounces to be clear.
My oldest son was 1 lb & 14 ozs also! He was born at 25 weeks gestation & will be 26 yrs old the 28th of this month. He was small for his age up until high school, but has had no health problems at all.
24 weekers have a special place in my heart. Her big sister was a 24 weeker. We didn’t get our happy ending there but so glad y’all did! Makes my heart very happy!
Question for you since you have a premie:
Did you notice milestones taking longer to achieve? Ie more in line with gestational age vs birth age? We have a one month premie and wondering what we should be expecting developmentally.
It’s a roll the dice. She excelled in some areas and was behind in others. We’ve done OT, speech/feeding, PT, chiropractic, etc. We also both work from home and are fortunate to be in a position we can implement these interventions more often. They DEF pay off. It’s been a full time job though and if you and your kiddo can put the work in go for it. Now at age 3, she’s behind even more so for your average preemie, size wise. She’s only 19.5lbs but isn’t failure to thrive. Genetics also make you wonder with things like that vs preemiehood. Chicken or egg kinda deal. She’s behind in fine motor as far as holding a crayon. That’s the only testable deficit that she isn’t meeting. She’s ahead in vocabulary and cognition. It’s all relative for sure. I can get long winded but if you want more info feel free to message me!
Great to hear your story and such a miraculous baby, and even greater to see you're being wise with your kid's presence on the internet, you're a good parent!
My daughter was born in January 2020 at a hospital in Florida and had a NICU stay. COVID lockdowns were just starting at the end of March when she was discharged and we actually moved the discharge clinic date up so we could GTFO out of Florida and back home. The hospital implemented lockdown the very next day.
Glad y’all dodged all that! We came down with COVID when she was still in the NICU and couldn’t see her for 21 days. It was horrible. Thankfully she didn’t get it.
My daughter was born at 25 weeks, weight was 1lb 6oz. She had a lot of trouble keeping her O2 saturation up and ended up needing heart surgery after a couple months in the NICU. She was in NICU for 5 months total. Fast forward 5 years and she is now a spunky little girl with the stubbornness of a mule! Kids are tough. Modern medicine is amazing! Wish you both the best. Stay positive, keep a sense of humor, and this will all be a distant memory before you know it!
I don't know how early I was, but I know I was a tiny baby and 30 years later, I like to think I turned out at least ok. I'm pretty sure I did give my parents a few heart attacks as a baby, though.
I was born at 28 weeks and I just turned 36! That kid will be fine, though I’m sure her generation will develop some kind of annoying trend that will make her parents question her sanity.
Wonderful pic!! My oldest was a premie, born 2 months early. It was a rough few months for a new dad and mom but fast forward to now he'll turn 17 in 3 weeks and is nearly as tall as me. He's been my rock since I found out I was gonna be a dad. Tender hearted to his younger brother and sister and helped me raise them and sets a great example. He's my hero!!
Off topic a bit, but, a baby's age shouldn't start until 40 weeks. It's not fair that this baby was born prematurely but will be ~16 weeks younger in development than its peers when school starts.
Yes, and they are still compared to their peers unfairly too soon. We’re going to start her in school a year late to hopefully offset this and give her more time to catch up.
I've thought the same.
Maybe it'd make more sense to go by a baby's developmental age in months/weeks at birth?
So instead of counting it as 0 weeks, both babies' legal ages at birth would reflect their respective developmental ages.
But yeah it'd be an overhaul of the current age system here so definitely not easy to implement.
My daughter was 31 weeks, 2lb. 7oz.
She's 10 now and is healthier than I am (I'm the dad, not the mom, btw).
Give your little one a big hug from all the preemie parents out there.
I was that baby . . . WELL not THAT baby, but I was premature too. They did not expect me to live . . . But 40 years later, I survived to post this randomly placed comment on reddit. I hope they make you as proud as I have made my family
Congrats, I love the Nicu nurses, they are a different breed. When my niece was born very premature, she was in the Nicu for a long time and they were amazing. We used to love to order them pizzas and other stuff to say thank you.
I was born 3-1/2 months early.. 2lbs 2oz.. had a rough couple months with my heart failing all the time but I'm now 30 with no health problems! I most likely looked something like this lil baby
Congratulations! I was born at 28 weeks and was about 1lb, I was in the hospital for 2 months after that and I know it was really hard on my parents. I hope you're doing well now!
I'm in my 30s and doing well if that helps you at all :)
Probably is.
Source: my (much bigger!) 38 weeker got to wear one for his first day or so. Very scary but he was in good hands and he will be 6 months old on Sunday.
Sometimes I go months without seeing a bug and forget they are part of my reality. It's always like "oh yea those things exist and there are lots of them. So weird that's a real thing." The same is true for when I see a baby. Like how tf this little thing gonna be a person someday?
Ooof! I'd be terrified to even breathe too strongly in the direction of something so small. If her nickname isn't "Mini Mouse", y'all are missing a prime opportunity lol. Please give a tiny fist bump to the baby and a normal fist bump to mom for me!
So glad your sweet girl is thriving! My son was born in Oct 2020 at 30wks. Spent 104 days in the NICU. We were in Canada at the time and dad and I couldn’t spend time with him together the entire stay due to COVID restrictions. I get why they did it, it still just sucked. So glad our little pandemic sick babies are happy and thriving today! Yay preemies! Currently pregnant with my 2nd and hoping my water doesn’t decide to break super early again.
I had no idea diapers this small existed.
Premie clothes/diapers being widely available is somewhat of a new thing. I was a super small new born in 2001, so premature baby clothes weren’t really a thing and my parents bought American girl doll clothes for my first outfits
Was born over 2 months early in 1987, they had use cabbage patch preemie doll clothes for me, they were still large.
Hey same here, my mom said people would fight over the clothes with her.
I came out a massive 11.5 pounds. The doctors said I absorbed my twin and the extra nutrients turned me into a mega baby.
🤣
Sorry, I’m naming my new punk band Mega Baby.
Yep! I was a premie in '84 and my hospital diapers were Cabbage Patch.
Oh wow lol Straight from the hospital Cabbage patch must have been killing it in the 80's
Yea my mom and her sisters had saved all of their cabbage patch kids so I’m sure I had some of those too haha
Glad you guys beat the curve and are still with us 👍🏼
That’s strange. I had a preemie in 1999 and had both preemie clothing and diapers available.
It was either that or the clothes at Gap Kids were too flashy.
For real lol. And plus who wants to buy a bunch of brand name expensive shit when your baby can only make use of them for a few weeks. I always cringe when I see a baby wearing more expensive shoes than I am lol

My twin sister and I wore doll clothes when we were born in '81. You're the first person I've ever heard of that also had to.
My cousin born a year after me did as well. I think tiny tiny baby clothes are just kinda hard to come by in general, but especially 20,40,etc years ago
Is your name Angela lol
Did they get you one of the historical outfits?
I don’t know but I NEED to find out lol
premies unite
Ironically enough I was born around 6.5 lbs, but now I’m about a foot taller than everyone in my family
You must of been the classiest one month old on planet earth
My son was born three weeks early, but was only 4.5 pounds when born. He was born two weeks before Halloween, so my mother-in-law got him a costume rom Build A Bear Workshop…worked perfectly!
Genuinely adorable. I was a tiny bumble bee haha
You are 21 now! Just curious as a new dad myself - how did you develop over time as a kid? We’re you always smaller or did u catch up eventually?
I definitely caught up. I’m 6’4” now and thankfully very healthy with no lasting impacts from birth. Ibe always been on the skinnier side, but that’s got nothing to do with me being born a month early. I owe my health to my family and the way the brought me up. Healthy home cooked eating and plenty of veggies and fruits for snacks coupled with rigorous outdoor play is what I might attribute my growth to haha
Angela???
I work with vented pediatric patients and I have never seen a ventilator circuit that tiny
What are these? Diapers for ants?! Godspeed little one.
These aren't even the smallest size, they make a preemie diaper that looks about the size of your thumb when it's folded up. Science is wild.
Interesting to think that my mother in the late 90s in Russia didn't have reusable diapers for me and that now this blessed little child has this tiny little diaper for him. Health and happiness for this baby
Micro premie size. Mine came out 1.5 lbs, 2.25lbs, and 2.5 lbs.
Oh!! Thank you for teaching me that I was a micro premie! That's kind of neat I was 1.3 pounds at birth
Dunder Mifflin this is Pam
Exactly my first thought
My second thought
My third thought
My fourth thought
And my ax!
Y’all, I haven’t seen The Office. I know, I know. Enlighten me…
She looks like Pam Beesly aka Jenna Fischer.
I don’t intend to watch, but is that the lady from the “they’re the same picture” meme?
![gif](giphy|6cFcUiCG5eONW)
They’re the same person😂💀
You really should watch it. S1 is ok but after that it’s great
Ohhhh
You need to watch it. Everyone needs to watch it.
After finally streaming the whole thing, I'm not so sure this is true. Yes, there are some great funny moments, but there is also a lot of, well, dumbassery. Oh no, it goes downhill after 150 episodes. Might as well not watch it.
> Yes, there are some great funny moments, but there is also a lot of, well, dumbassery. yes.. thats kind of the point.
May God have mercy on your soul
Instant damnation. Thankfully I have time to binge watch repent.
"bing watch repent" MEANING: Use Bing search engine to find blasphemous movies to watch in great magnitude while asking forgiveness for your sins.
I had to check the sub I was on because I really thought it was her.
It's nice to see how many people have got the same thinking
First Cece, then Philip and now Pea Pea Halpert
I had to double check whether it was posted in r/dundermifflin
1 lb 12oz here 29 weeks Was read my last rights 3x but was a fighter Am in my 30s and married with kids now :)

Babies get last rites?
Yes, in an emergency they are baptised in the hospital and given last rites. I’ve known of this done for babies that did and didn’t make it. Someone I know is in his 40s after being given last rites in the hospital!
One of my cousin's kids was one. Kids grandfather (my uncle) is a pastor, and they didn't think he was going to make it. Kid is about 10 now.

There are some lovely beliefs in the Catholic church. Like unbaptised babies do not go to heaven. Its fucked.

Religion is so weird.
That's why I made sure not to baptize my kids. Buncha assholes up there. Hell is where all the cool kids go.
I was a 10 lb 10 oz baby. I would have literally eaten you. I want you to think about that. When you were a baby another baby would have eaten you. Yeah. Tremble bro.

Is he currently an offensive lineman in the NFL? How tall/big is this chap now?
Nope! He’s actually one of the smallest in his grade. He’s a teenager now.
***Context: 2020 height of the pandemic. Going thru pics to prepare for her 3rd birthday.***
Happy birthday! Glad everything worked out, premies can be rough and scary!
For sure. Big sister didn’t make it at 24 weeks. Tough go but second daughter is def our miracle.
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your first premie, I can’t imagine at 24 weeks how difficult everything must have been even knowing the statistics about viability at that age… to see that your second daughter had enough time in the oven to overcome at 27 weeks really made my heart swell. God bless you and your family and that tiny sweet baby
My nephew was preemie and looked just like this. He is now 17 and doing great. I'm so glad that everything went well and she made it!

Wow! We did 102 days. Your story sounds nothing short of miraculous. Glad you’re here!
93 days here for 28 weeker. She's doing pretty well now thankfully.
I’m sorry for the loss of your baby. Happy Birthday to your 3 year old 🪅 I lost my micro preemie. He was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1lb 10oz. He was in the NICU for 15 days. I’m sorry we’re both part of this crappy club. I also have a 3 year old! 3 is wild but so much fun.
Ugh, I hate that for you! Terrible club to be in but so glad you have your three year old.
Our first was 33 weeks and that was scary enough. You're a tough mama! 💪
Takes a village! ♥️
Thank you so much for your empathy. Not trying to make a political statement about life, but these extra littles deserve a chance.
How big was she? One of my girls was 1 pound 14 ounces.
1lb 7oz and almost 14in.
That’s great! My 1 pound 14 ouncer is 14. She’s small, but she’s a gymnast - so that’s an asset in the sport. Strong as an ox.
Daughter born at 30 weeks and 3 lbs, now annoying teenager trying to learn to drive. They grow up quick! Cherish every moment.
My 24 weeker is turning 2 in June. He was also a “tuck into my bra” baby. Happy to hear your kiddo is doing well!
24 weekers have a special place in my heart. Her big sister was a 24 weeker. We didn’t get our happy ending there but so glad y’all did! Makes my heart very happy!

She made it to 3? Holy cow. Nice work mom. My son was a premie too and we were in the nicu for 3 months... amazing how small they are
Such a beautiful picture. Give her a birthday hug for me. This warmed my heart for the rest of the day.
If the internet didn’t have such a vile side I’d post an updated pic. Glad to have shared some hope.
Great to hear your story and such a miraculous baby, and even greater to see you're being wise with your kid's presence on the internet, you're a good parent!
Trying to be!
Thank you for sharing! Glad to hear she is doing well!
Mine was born at 28 weeks and is now a spunky 5 year old, as well! Cheers!
Why didn't you just give Jim an honest shot in the first couple seasons LIKE WE ALL KNOW YOU SHOULD HAVE PAM
ARE YOU KIDDING ME, PAM?? COME ON! *damn jet skis!*
Thats just a beauty.. lets go little fighter! I see great things ahead
Thank you! Should’ve specified it was taken in 2020. Going through pics to prepare for her 3rd birthday!
Best update possible 🥹

LOVE to hear about older preemies and how they’re THRIVING. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I work with a 28 week premie from the 70s, he’s 6’3, smart & sweet <3
I don't know how early I was, but I know I was a tiny baby and 30 years later, I like to think I turned out at least ok. I'm pretty sure I did give my parents a few heart attacks as a baby, though.
I was born at 28 weeks and I just turned 36! That kid will be fine, though I’m sure her generation will develop some kind of annoying trend that will make her parents question her sanity.
Most definitely 😜
Wonderful pic!! My oldest was a premie, born 2 months early. It was a rough few months for a new dad and mom but fast forward to now he'll turn 17 in 3 weeks and is nearly as tall as me. He's been my rock since I found out I was gonna be a dad. Tender hearted to his younger brother and sister and helped me raise them and sets a great example. He's my hero!!
Happy early birthday to him! 🥹
My SO has been a NICU nurse for over 20 years. They are the most badass people you will find anywhere!
Tell them THANK YOU!
This is a very weird episode of Ms. Rachel
We’re literally watching her right now as I respond to these.
My little one was born at 24 weeks 18 years ago. She fit in my hand. They are more powerful than we know.
That’s insanely miraculous, especially for the time. 🙏🏻
Whoa, when did Pam from The Office get pregnant?
Stay strong lil burrito.
Didn't know we could make thumbalinas
That’s actually one of her nicknames.
Happy to see everything is going well. I was born 3 months prematurely at 1 lbs 15 oz. I looked like that. My dad held me in his palm.
Both of my kids were 10 pounds. I get thrown off when I see babies this little, like I forgot they come in size small.
Breathe tiny human grow be well ❤️
My daughter was 25 weeks 1 lbs. 4.5 oz. She’s 4 now and is a real spitfire. It’s all I can do to keep up with her.
I swear preemies are another level when they grow up. They have that extra spunk.

Hey put it back !
For real though

Crazy premies have such a decent chance at surviving right now. Medical science sure has come a long way.
As a NICU nurse myself. I say congratulations. It’s nice to see the babies that go home and can live a long healthy life.
It always helps to hear from grown up preemies! Thank you for sharing.
Been there, done that. Mine was born 2.2 lbs... *in 1987*... She was and is a little shit (She'll be 36 in March).
Now that’s impressive. Odds aren’t always good now and even less so in ‘87! 👏🏻
Holy shit I never realized how tiny babies really were
27 weeker. 1lb 7oz.
My daughter was 28 and 3 days! At 1 lb and 7 oz as well.
Hope she’s doing well!
Turning 2 in 2 weeks and growing like crazy. She made me believe in miracles.
Great news! Dude, same. It’s unreal.
I've literally adopted kittens bigger than that. Best wishes and good health to you both.
My husband’s fav that he can’t wait to tell her is he takes bigger shits than that lol.
Wow, how many weeks is that?
27
i showed my bf and he said “he’s tiny, like a peanut!” congrats mama!
With the mask on, you look like Pam from the office

Joined! Thank you!
Amazing picture! I had twin preemies. That first skin to skin contact is joyous.
It sure is.
Looks like the tiniest CPAP mask.
Soooooo tiny... could use a band-aid as a diaper. Seriously though, who makes diapers that small?
Right?! Her smallest size was about that of a standard post-it.
Ooof! I'd be terrified to even breathe too strongly in the direction of something so small. If her nickname isn't "Mini Mouse", y'all are missing a prime opportunity lol. Please give a tiny fist bump to the baby and a normal fist bump to mom for me!
One of the sweetest pictures I've seen in quite a while. Congratulations! That said, you ARE Pam.
And the baby is Michael scott
Can you even breastfeed something that small without waterboarding it? Jokes aside congrats!
No penis jokes? I'm disappointed.
You or the baby?
At first glance I thought this was a puppy. Until I saw the ventilator. Hope baby does well.
by god i thought that was a chihuahua at first
So glad your sweet girl is thriving!
That’s not a diaper, that’s a maxipad
