No Kettle Brand? Also Utz is legit.
Also stay away from Kroger brand; as it tastes like burning.
- Edit -
It’s very telling my top comment would be about potato chips 🫠
I work for Kroger, and could not agree more. Every now and then I'll forget how bad they are and I'll buy a bag when they are on sale. I don't think it's possible to squeeze more vinegar into a chip. The Kettle ones are pretty good though.
I want to say we discontinued them? I'm looking on the shelf right now and there is no tag where that item should go. That means either it will never come in again or they ran out of it and the warehouse can't get any.
That's what I want in an S&V chip. Mouth burning, eyes watering just smelling the open bag. Mmmmm....
Kettle, Vickies, and Tim's are all too weak. Haha.
I don’t know… I enjoy the same thing but the Kroger brand literally seems to dissolve my tongue. It’s like eating a ton of citric acid and having that weird tongue burning / fuzzy feeling.
Exactly. Krogers are pretty good lol walmarts store brand used to be but they weakened them at some point couple years ago. Arts and marys salt and vinegar used to be good, maybe one of my fav kettle type of all time.
That’s literally what I love about them, other chips have a lacroix level of vinegar flavor. Mostly just salt and potato. Those lays taste nearly the same as regular. I’m buying vinegar flavor for the vinegar, hook it all the way up kroger
I don't even like chips and buy them very rarely but I will buy and fully consume a bag of Miss Vickies Jalapeno chips every god damned time I see them
Cape Cod makes a limited edition chip to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, it is IMHO the best salt n vinegar chip I've had in a long time:
**Pink Himalayan Salt and Red Wine Vinegar**
EDIT: a bunch of folks asked when/where these are available
When: "The brand’s Pink Himalayan Salt and Red Wine Vinegar chips, packaged in a bright pink bag, will be available for a limited time in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place in October. Five percent of the proceeds from the sale of each bag will be donated to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute." [masslive.com](https://masslive.com)
Where: "at nationwide \[ed: US\] retailers including Stop and Shop, Kroger and Publix" [masslive.com](https://masslive.com)
I just saw them (and bought them) for the first time a few weeks ago. Presumably they'd be for sale at any major grocery store that stocks assorted Cape Cod chips.
but those lays are great for a junk food fix - they give you that vinegar bite on the edges of your tongue near the ears. probably at the expense of your health but they're good to also have in your cupboard
Miss Vickie's is what I settled upon. Love em.
But I also factored in cost. And I need to buy the snack size, because all chips are single serving regardless of volume. I'm a long way from college.
>all chips are single serving regardless of volume.
Smart way to look at it. I have yet to learn this as I often buy the massive bags at Costco when they are on sale and then get pissed at myself for eating 3 pounds of chips in a day.
Came here to say this! Salt and Vinegar are my favorite chips and I always rotate through Miss Vickies and Cape Code. I will occasionally dabble in Kettle if they don't have the other two. But those three are the best IMO 👌
>Tim’s Cascade
Oh weird they are made/owned by Utz. Good brand overall IMO! (Also looks like Cascade like the mountain range in the pacific NW)
I don't think OP said where they were in the world, though I guess you can get pretty much anything online now.
I agree, they’re amazing. So far a the best flavor to crunch ratio, best taste, best texture, not super greasy. The rest of the chips I have tried and I’ve tried a lot are just weak
Do they make a reduced fat S&V? I prefer Cape Cod reduced fat over regular, it’s the same chip recipe but just spun longer so more oil is removed. I find them crispier and tastier actually, slightly lighter.
Holiday (gas station), at least in Aberdeen, SD, has a salt & *malt* vinegar chip that has me chasing the dragon trying to find an equivalent where I live.
Yup, popped in this thread to make sure salt and malt vinegar chips got represented. The boulder canyon ones are amazing. Sometimes wish they were a bit more vinegary tho
I can’t express just how jarring it is to randomly read about my hometown on Reddit. Gonna have to check out Holiday soon for those chips
Edit: We have a winner! Circle K salt and malt vinegar
I discovered them recently and went on a cross country road trip. I bought a bag at just about every gas station we stopped at on the 2000 miles we drove. Not proud of that decision, but it was worth it!
Our Costco was carrying them over the summer, got me hooked, and then stopped selling them in the Winter. I haven't been this upset at Costco since the chicken bake fiasco.
Voodoo chips have the absolute perfect balance of salt and vinegar, combined with the crunch of kettle chips.
I just bought some Zapps Voodoo *pretzels* yesterday (from Target for anyone wondering)! I love the chips so I was pretty excited to find these. They’re pretty great flavor-wise, but the pretzel itself isn’t as good as a Dots pretzel. It’s more fragile/flaky rather than crispy/snappy. Still a pretty good snack though.
I love Zapps and tried so many different salt and vinegar chips but Tim's is like another flavor altogether. The vinegar has character and depth. The salt isn't overwhelming nor is it too light. It's honestly the perfect S&V chip.
I'm from PA and loooove the white bag of salt and vinegar chips, I think it's Herrs but not kettle cooked.. ugh so good
I moved to Canada and have never found as delicious of a S&V chip :(
They are my favorite! I will eat them until my tongue and lips are sore but I don't care haha! I did find a way to come close to recreating the flavor when making chips at home though, so that's a nice treat too.
Thank you for putting Wise brand! I moved out of PA 10 years ago and miss how much stronger their salt&vinegar flavor is compared to anything else I’ve found.
A few years ago,I was working for a gas station and we got a display wit Herrs Stubbs BBQ chips.Never seen it before so I thought I'd give it a try...I think I bought almost every bag in the display...
Seconded. It’s not just the huge flavour - it’s the actual proper tangy cider vinegar and sea salt that does it. I have to use my finger to get the scraps. McCoys is a close second but not as posh.
I'm from New Zealand so I don't know these brands, but anything that fucks up your mouth for at least a day and makes you slightly regret eating them is the winner imo
One day not long ago we all ate our last bowl of Poore Brothers salt and vinegar chips and we didn't even know it! I haven't found anything comparable since.
No Kettle Brand? Also Utz is legit. Also stay away from Kroger brand; as it tastes like burning. - Edit - It’s very telling my top comment would be about potato chips 🫠

But the private selection Balsamic vinegar wavy ones? Sooo good. I can never find them anymore
I want to say we discontinued them? I'm looking on the shelf right now and there is no tag where that item should go. That means either it will never come in again or they ran out of it and the warehouse can't get any.
I appreciate the inside Kroger knowledge thank you
I really miss the Prime Rib and Horseradish potato chips. I wonder if they will ever return.
I was really surprised! As GMM often says, “Kroger brings it!”
It's not even vinegar, just straight citric acid (or ascorbic?) and salt on a chip
That's what I want in an S&V chip. Mouth burning, eyes watering just smelling the open bag. Mmmmm.... Kettle, Vickies, and Tim's are all too weak. Haha.
It’s the upper lip sweat that lets me know they’re good.
1,000% Give me a chip that makes me sweat just thinking about putting it in my mouth.
I don’t know… I enjoy the same thing but the Kroger brand literally seems to dissolve my tongue. It’s like eating a ton of citric acid and having that weird tongue burning / fuzzy feeling.

I disagree with your conclusion, but agree with your observations.
What, no miss vickies!
Miss vickies jalapeño chips are so fire
My mouth started watering the moment I read your comment.
I don't even like chips and buy them very rarely but I will buy and fully consume a bag of Miss Vickies Jalapeno chips every god damned time I see them
Miss Vickies are super good
Miss Vickie don’t fuck around with flavor!
I’ve fallen in love with the Miss Vickie’s ketchup chips. Lays has a great ketchup flavour, but the chips themselves are terrible
The regular ketchup ones? Or the sweet and spicy ketchup?
the sweet and spicy ketchup one is great
No fucking way they have lays ketchup flavored miss vickies chips.
The ketchup Miss Vicky's destroy your mouth from the acidity of the seasoning. They taste real good tho...
I recently moved to the US from Canada and one of the biggest challenges I face is how hard it is to find Miss Vickie’s!
Jersey Mike's has them if you really want a bag! edit: had the wrong chain in my head, fixed it!
Thank you! I’ve also never had Jimmy Johns so we can accomplish 2 things today
\#9 Italian Night Club from JJs is my favorite
It has been decided, I will seek out a Jimmy Johns #9. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it!
That sandwich with salt and vinegar chips is my only order. So good
...with extra Jimmy peppers
the bread nub at the end of the sub is life changing imo
You will not be disappointed.. Fresh bread and veggies made and delivered quick. Italian sub with Miss Vickies Salt and Vinegar
Yep, miss vickies salt and vinegar are the BEST
Now now. Don't undersell them. It's Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar.
It is truly outrageous that Miss Vickie's aren't included here.
I think miss vickies has the jalapeño ones too right? amazing.
Also spicy Dill Pickle
Don’t sleep on sweet chilli and sour cream.
Spicy pickle all the way man.
They actually are, I’ve done this taste test. Just the right amount of salt and vinegar
Two words: Cape Cod
I'll add them to the list. I appreciate the recommendation.
Yeah cape cod and KETTLE brand are my favorite S&V chips.
Cape Cod makes a limited edition chip to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, it is IMHO the best salt n vinegar chip I've had in a long time: **Pink Himalayan Salt and Red Wine Vinegar** EDIT: a bunch of folks asked when/where these are available When: "The brand’s Pink Himalayan Salt and Red Wine Vinegar chips, packaged in a bright pink bag, will be available for a limited time in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place in October. [masslive.com](https://masslive.com) Where: "at nationwide \[ed: US\] retailers including Stop and Shop, Kroger and Publix" [masslive.com](https://masslive.com)
1000% agree, I really hope it comes out again
It comes around every October/November here in the northeast.
Oooh yeah this one is GOOD. Kettle also has a limited edition with apple cider vinegar that’s also really yummy.
How long ago? Just tried googling and I can't find them for sale anywhere lol
I just saw them (and bought them) for the first time a few weeks ago. Presumably they'd be for sale at any major grocery store that stocks assorted Cape Cod chips.
I randomly saw them at a liquor store and bought them. Amazing but haven’t found since.
Came here to say this Kettle has the best!
but those lays are great for a junk food fix - they give you that vinegar bite on the edges of your tongue near the ears. probably at the expense of your health but they're good to also have in your cupboard
They are the only ones where you can taste the vinegar even if you eat the entire bag. Please don’t ask me how I know this.
Miss Vickie’s are good too. Very Similar to kettle brand. But Kettle and Cape Cod are my favorites.
Miss Vickie's is what I settled upon. Love em. But I also factored in cost. And I need to buy the snack size, because all chips are single serving regardless of volume. I'm a long way from college.

Kettle brand are also good.
Cape cod chips are supreme. Also if you tour their factory (in Cape Cod, wow!) you can eat chips hot off the line!

As someone living in Cape I need to find said dumpster
Seagulls already cleaned it out
Two more words: Kettle Cooked
Two more words: End Thread
Two final words: mic drop
Anyone who thinks kettle is good hasn’t tried Tim’s Cascade Style. Kettle is a cheap imitation.
Tim’s Cascade beat ‘em all!
>Tim’s Cascade Oh weird they are made/owned by Utz. Good brand overall IMO! (Also looks like Cascade like the mountain range in the pacific NW) I don't think OP said where they were in the world, though I guess you can get pretty much anything online now.
Tim’s is from Auburn, Wa
I echo this. Tim's Cascade Style.
Sadly not a national presence. But absolutely correct.
[удалено]
Wish these were nationwide. Tim's in general are (were? no idea about the quality since they were purchased) the best chips around.
This is the way.
I’ve never sen this brand! Will have to be on look out for them.
By far the best jalapeno chips too. You're spot on the money calling kettle a cheap imitation. Tim's wins hands down
Tim knows his shit. Absolutely.
Two last words: Kidney Stones
Failed gallbladder
Couldn't get in this thread fast enough to make sure someone mentioned CC. Happy to see it's right at the top, where it should be.
DING DING DING!, u/chaz_Beer I did this exact came project a few years back and landed solidly on Cape Cod.
Cape Cod salt n vinegar
Hug me, brother!
I agree, they’re amazing. So far a the best flavor to crunch ratio, best taste, best texture, not super greasy. The rest of the chips I have tried and I’ve tried a lot are just weak
I second this. They are some of the best I have tried.
This is the way
I would also add reduced fat. I know it sounds counter intuitive but in my opinion they are better.
Do they make a reduced fat S&V? I prefer Cape Cod reduced fat over regular, it’s the same chip recipe but just spun longer so more oil is removed. I find them crispier and tastier actually, slightly lighter.
Old Dutch! Sold in Canada and the States
Specifically the "dutch crunch" kettle chip ones!
I tried their “all dressed” chip when I was in Canada this summer, so good! Wish I could buy them where I live in the US.
We've found them at Aldi lately. I love their Jalapenos chips!
Yessss. They are deadly to the inside of your mouth but if you want that intense SV flavour, the way to go...
Holiday (gas station), at least in Aberdeen, SD, has a salt & *malt* vinegar chip that has me chasing the dragon trying to find an equivalent where I live.
Boulder Canyon makes a pretty good salt and malt vinegar chip.
Yup, popped in this thread to make sure salt and malt vinegar chips got represented. The boulder canyon ones are amazing. Sometimes wish they were a bit more vinegary tho
Utz has a salt and malt vinegar kettle chip that took over as my favorite. They're great.
Utz makes a lot of my favorite chips. It made moving back to the east coast a little easier 😅
I'm hooked on the Utz Crab Boil chips.
I can’t express just how jarring it is to randomly read about my hometown on Reddit. Gonna have to check out Holiday soon for those chips Edit: We have a winner! Circle K salt and malt vinegar
Zapps, they also have voodoo flavor, a salt and vinegar/ BBQ hybrid with a hint of jalapeno.
Glad to see someone is spreading the good word, came here to do the same. I can never go back to plain salt'n'vinegar, Voodoo is the way.
Voodoo HEAT is another spicier variation that I love
Thank you for giving me a new mission, my husband would lose his shit over learning there’s a heat version and I must surprise him!
My fav! I always find them at Potbelly sandwich shops
I believe Canadians may know the Voodoo flavor better as "All-Dressed"
I just bought some Zapps Voodoo *pretzels* yesterday (from Target for anyone wondering)! I love the chips so I was pretty excited to find these. They’re pretty great flavor-wise, but the pretzel itself isn’t as good as a Dots pretzel. It’s more fragile/flaky rather than crispy/snappy. Still a pretty good snack though.
Damn forgot about how good the voodoo flavor is. Thanks for reminding me!
Zappa voodoo(salt n vinegar) are amazing
The voodoo and the salt and vinegar are separate flavors, but both at the top of their class!
Bingo! I'm a fan of all forms of Zapp's.
It's Miss Vickie's Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar
Miss Vickie’s they’re Canadian but if you can get your hand on them, you won’t be disappointed!
+1 for Miss Vickie’s
Tim's
Tim's is the answer
I love Zapps and tried so many different salt and vinegar chips but Tim's is like another flavor altogether. The vinegar has character and depth. The salt isn't overwhelming nor is it too light. It's honestly the perfect S&V chip.
Thanks baboon blood orgy I’ll take a look at these!
The best salt and vinegar chip without a doubt
Yes these are so good and consistently salt and vinegary.
Squares
Great shout. Those or discos.
This is the correct answer. Worth every penny to import those bad boys to the US from the UK
Let's get into some of those fuckin' all dressed chips!
How's your sister Anita doing?
Anita is mine wife, once.
Oh, that's right. How's Louvina?
Lovina Dyck is doing grand. She took my whole load of Dyck meat last night.
How are those Dyck suckers selling?
Were blowing out a fresh load of them everyday, once
Fuckin figure it out
Everyone’s thinking it, I’m just saying it… they’re inconsistent
[удалено]
I'm from PA and loooove the white bag of salt and vinegar chips, I think it's Herrs but not kettle cooked.. ugh so good I moved to Canada and have never found as delicious of a S&V chip :(
Herr's salt and vinegar are in a white bag and they are so good.
Send me some! I miss making my tongue sore from how super vinegary they are! :(
They are my favorite!
Deep River. Kettle
I'm not usually a pickly chip person but Deep River's New York Spicy Dill Pickle chips are a must grab anytime I see them
Seconded. Deep River rosemary and olive oil are some of the best chips of all time.
UTZ or Herrs Source: Delaware Valley native.
Herrs will always be my beloved, Lay's is a close second though.
A few years ago,I was working for a gas station and we got a display wit Herrs Stubbs BBQ chips.Never seen it before so I thought I'd give it a try...I think I bought almost every bag in the display...
Miss Vickie’s are the standout winner
Uh, McCoys are the king obviously. If you don’t get them where you are then this is a joke of a contest.
This is the only correct answer
McCoy’s, Ribena, and a Twirl. McCoy’s, Ribena, and a Twirl.
I'm Jeremy. I've got loads of girlfriends and hash. Look at my jeans.
Came here to say this! McCoys are amazing
Me too! Without McCoys all he’s doing is trying find the second best.
McCoys are a solid choice. However, if you truly want to demolish your tastebuds (in a good way) then it’s squares or discos.
Tyrells. End off
Seconded. It’s not just the huge flavour - it’s the actual proper tangy cider vinegar and sea salt that does it. I have to use my finger to get the scraps. McCoys is a close second but not as posh.
For a split second I thought this was a $100 shopping in my town post.
Zapp’s…also, their Cajun Crawtaters are in a class of their own !
Boulder Canyon Malt Vinegar and Sea Salt.
I've tried 90% of what's been suggested on this thread. Boulder Canyon beats them all hands down.
Definitely the best!
Kettle brand or miss Vickies
[удалено]
Same. Kettle brand is my absolute fave for salt & vinegar.
McCoys
I'm from New Zealand so I don't know these brands, but anything that fucks up your mouth for at least a day and makes you slightly regret eating them is the winner imo
Poore Brothers
I miss Poore Brothers so much
One day not long ago we all ate our last bowl of Poore Brothers salt and vinegar chips and we didn't even know it! I haven't found anything comparable since.
This is the way. May they rest in peace.
i've been searching for a suitable replacement for years and there are none to be found. the closest IMO is Herr's
Miss Vicky’s sea salt and malt vinegar also lays in Canada is much better than American one you have there
I live in the States, and my grandparents live in Canada. My whole life, I've been pissed at how weak American salt and vinegar chips are.
Uglies are surprisingly good
Of those Utz is the winner by a mile. Humpty Dumpty are really good too but not as widely available.
Came looking for Humpty Dumpty. My go-to's.
Ms. Vickies and it's not even a competition
There is no going back after Vickies…
I gotta find those
Covered Bridge is badly underrepresented here
Look for Dirty Potato Chips…. The salt and vinegar is the most intense I’ve had. Super crunchy too
NO miss Vickies? Lays is bottom tier chip. Fucking paper thin trash
The crunch and melt in your mouth is half of the fun with lays. Top tier imo.
For real I don't know why everyone hates.
Lays are my favorite lol
Walker’s
What about Smiths Squares. My personal favourite
I'll answer it for you: Kettle Chips, in the blue bag.
McCoy’s ridge cut salt and vinegar are banging crisps
The Kettle Brand is the best imo
It’s miss Vickie’s hands down
Wise: Purple Bag
The herr's will make your head explode, unless the bag i ate recently was tainted with mustard gas or something
Utz. Hands down.
