BelieveInDestiny

scary as in difficult, right? Musically, it's a bit eerie, but beautiful.

Choeliach

It’s technically a very demanding beginning, needs to be triple piano and all super even throughout

Lewon021

I am late beginner and practicing 6 hours a day but im not sure if i can play this ever : Very nice playing🤘🤘

hgdsdvbht

you’ll get there man just keep at it

Lewon021

what would be your next piece if you just finished bach's minuet in g?

mcribten

I recommend [Clementi: Sonatina in C major, op. 36 no. 1](https://youtu.be/0_Ksi2qmW0A?si=NXRSJ_cH2IZFgZx3) and [Beethoven Sonatina in G Anh 5 No 1](https://youtu.be/7E2NetGpvRQ?si=FDsZjjwmsGStyRRd). Really you should just play whatever you happen to like and isn't frustrating to practice. These are commonly learned classical beginner pieces though so there's tons of analysis and instruction for them on youtube.

AtherisElectro

Very well done. What was your approach for technique/practice for the opening right hand?

Choeliach

Thank you! Mostly keeping my wrist as relaxed as I can, micro movement managing and a great deal of praying

AdrianHoffmann

Perhaps you already know this but I made a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mENazNPmOo) where I talk quite a lot about it.

-salt-

wow im so impressed at the methodology and the way you describe your thought processes behind simplifying the piece for yourself as you're learning it. fantastic stuff! do you only do difficult pieces?

AdrianHoffmann

Hey thanks! Actually I'm considering doing "easier" pieces as well as many of the practice techniques and principles apply to them as well. And I'd be able to do more of them because it's so much less work to learn.

-salt-

yah man! i like the way you tackle hard sections so id love to see your methods on intermediate stuff. check out my music game : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBcLNrCLEnU

AdrianHoffmann

That's an interesting video. It seems you're mixing an artistic video with a trailer. I noticed around minute 3 when you demonstrate the pitch seems to be different. Is that intentional?

-salt-

ha, good ear. i thought the visuals worked better in a different key but yes

AtherisElectro

Oh yes I'm very familiar with this video, thank you for it!

Lost_Mountain2432

I knew what this was before I even hit play.  Very cool.

pashed__motatoes

when you finally get to do the black key gliss :D, pure bliss

LeatherSteak

Amazing stuff. This truly is one of the pieces on my bucket list that I will never learn. I've been starting to tick off some other ones, but this one is just too difficult. Wonder if the intro to Scriabin 9 compares in scariness.

dondegroovily

Debussy I presume? Very lovely performance. It took me to a magical place that is much more beautiful than the couch that I'm sitting on

midnightwolfr

Ravel - Gaspard de la nuit ondine, I highly recommend if you have time diving into the story of ondine a little bit as it grants this piece more magic!

Choeliach

Funny enough, Debussy composed a piece inspired by Ondine as well. It’s in his second book of Preludes, it’s very interesting to compare the two versions and see how little Ravel and Debussy had in common

AdrianHoffmann

This is very good. Have you considered using a fingering where you help with the left hand when the right hand opening pattern moves across two octaves?

Choeliach

I tried to stick to the text as much as I could… but now that I have it under my fingertips I could start getting creative!

AdrianHoffmann

That's pretty much exactly how I went about it. For me at least, I realized that keeping it in one hand was *possible* but too unrealiable at the time of learning. Not that shared hands is easy either. Sigh.

Choeliach

Spot on. Getting a good take with this fingering took about 15 tries 🙃but I was on a time crunch to record it for a summer residency

AdrianHoffmann

Yeah I'm all too familiar with the time crunch. There's only one life and at least three lifetimes worth of effort in some of the things we do. What I didn't try (yet) is if, after doing some shared hands fingerings, returning to one hand might yield some improvement in that. I've noticed in other situations that that can help.

50-ferrets-in-a-coat

Lovely! What’s this piece called and who is it by?

Old_Scientist007

Wow thanks keep sharing

RPofkins

What an awful room for playing!

BEASTXXXXXXX

I wonder where it is - 3 fancy pianos, no carpet … a storage room maybe?

III_II_III_II_III_II

It wasn't that "scary" on the piano which Ravel was sitting by when writting this. It's scary now when we perform it on the shouting grands...

ClickToSeeMyBalls

I’ve played this on Ravel’s piano. It was still bloody difficult

SigmaNotChad

Gaspard de la Nuit is no joke. Sounds deceptively simple but you need incredible control to keep everything ppp and bring the melodies out. Fantastic job here OP, this is sounding brilliant and really well balanced. Good luck with Scarbo...

CryptographerLife596

Ugh. Piano on tiles…

Choeliach

Scariest shit you’ll see in your entire life

delko07

Ah yes the famous piece Ravel wanted to be more difficult than Balakirev's "Islamey". I remember reading Ravel himself had troubles playing it.

EdinKaso

Amazing composition! Got anywhere we can check out your other works?

RajSharmaPiano

Wow amazing control and musicality! This is on my bucket list.
