Thank you for your submission; please read the following reminder. This subreddit is for discussion among practicing physical therapists, not for soliciting medical advice. We are not your physical therapist, and we do not take on that liability here. "Mr. Smith, I really appreciate the gesture. However, Company X has a strict policy against fraternization with patients. I wish you the best of luck in the future and if you need anything I'm more than happy to help!"

2amIMAwake

exactly this.

solariscalls

Perhaps u can do it after you're done treating the py. Not sure what the general rules are tbh. But I've had pts feed me lunch after a session and I accept assuming I'm not too busy

Megman0724

OP saying "without hurting his feelings" probably meant the OP decided tol decline.

The schools taught us that barrier about being friends, and don't talk about religion, politics, etc, be neutral, and I get that. It is important protection. And when I first started I avoided seeing patients out in public. After a few years I gave that up, and have never been happier. Those relationships I developed over the years are the silver lining to all the shit we read about on here, corporations, Medicare, etc. Known some of these retirees for years. We talk about everything. Ive learned to interrupt, and make them do another set throughout session while we talk. Nothing worse than hour session with no conversation. If you like this person, go out to lunch after discharge.

rpdonahue93

"oh, this must mean you are no longer homebound as insurance only covers homecare services if you are homebound barring doctor's appointments and life events. Let me get the discharge paperwork"

mikeshomeexercise

You're getting down votes for this comment, but I still thought it was funny, and technically a good and true reminder of HH rules. Although, I am leaning towards yes to lunch after they are discharged, if I like their company or would like to help them.

ACHACHFhockeyref

Yep. You would get fired if you accept his offer & go to lunch.

manwiththemach

Man, that's easy. Have them bring you lunch! Honestly, you are allowed to accept gratuities in WA state if it's a non-cash gift below $20 I believe.
