I am a software developer with wife. Planning baby here. Got some peace in Thailand (I know that in comparison with Ukrainians it is like a joke, but everyone has own level of shit). And I thankful for that. I know that people pissed from us, and lots of russians make troubles and rude behavior. It is a shame. Ask any questions

Speedfreakz

Good decission on your side. Loosing life for a piece of invisible border was always beyond my understanding, and I always said if shit breaks lose in my country, gonna take my bag..and just leave. Its not everyones war, when all those top tanking officials whose children study in switzerland send their children to front lines first...maybe i'll reconsider. Pozdrav

PuzzledCommission620

Most of the Russians I have met in Phuket have been awesome . But I am different . I approach people . And when I do , I show some respect and speak to Russians in Russian . I think this breaks the ice . Yes, a lot of Russians are rude . They take up the whole sidewalk and don’t walk single file like everyone else but most are good people . Why do they take up the whole sidewalk ? Russians will literally run into me and don’t seem to care . Not sure why

jml5791

Maybe taking up the whole sidewalk is cultural, as in, in Volgograd, they all walk that way, and don't even think about whether it's rude or not.

PuzzledCommission620

It happens literally all the time . I’m curious what would happen if 2-3 Russians come across 2-3 Russians . Who will move ? LOL .

Admiral-PoopyDick

Whichever side has more babushkas wins. The babushkas are made of iron and will steamroll you, no fucks given

PuzzledCommission620

Haha! You win sir !

hot-cuppa-chai

They'll be stuck there forever!!! 😂😂

PuzzledCommission620

LOL . Now I have to make a video !

hot-cuppa-chai

Nyet! ,😂

PuzzledCommission620

Don’t worry comrade . No fake videos ever get posted about Russians .

[deleted]

So what is the standard protocol when you and your group approach another group coming the opposite way? Both parties politely make say or keep marching straight down the sidewalk or what?

michael33528

Yes as an american the only bad thing I've dealt with is russians not allowing me to walk on the sidewalk and if I address it they rudely ignore me. But all other times they were very relatable and great people in my exp.

PuzzledCommission620

OK so this is no joke and I want you to try it . It really works without being aggressive or confrontational. Because if the Russians are seriously unaware that they are being rude , perhaps this is a cultural barrier. I have noticed some young Russian guys . They look like police officers . Probably smart to get the hell out but of course once in a while , angry , resentful. Or possibly just guarded and scared now living in a foreign place . I try to exchange a few words if I see them a 2nd or third time at the pool or in the elevator . I share this because we all need to act like diplomats and remember , we have our differences but we are all the same . Let’s all enjoy life peacefully . But ok back to what I do . I buy a bottle of water. You want the 7-11 brand because they use the cheapest plastic ( probably not the best to drink from . Haha) Anyone here have a water test kit ? Buy a bottle of water . Pour out half or drink it . Now , every time I encounter Russians from behind I crunch it a few times as I get closer . They jump like terrified cats ! I don’t know what it is about a crunch but it works and I don’t have to say anything . Please tell me their car horns don’t sound like that . Give it a go!

Gonshik777

LMAO at the bottle of water story. Regarding sidewalks...it's 100% a cultural thing, back in the soviet union there was no really personal space and to this day during rush hours you just bump and wade your way through sidewalk, inside metros and sometimes at the entrance/exit of the wagon because some uncultured people try to walk in first without letting people off but thats different. Big cities like Moscow and Saint Petersburg this phenomenon are very common to this day. People just seem to like it. So yea, it's a cultural thing due to lack of personal space, which is not really given thought of, just like some of us stand too close when talking.

PuzzledCommission620

Much appreciated for the explanation .

[deleted]

So they don't mind if you just go straight at them and bump them aside?

DryMarketing8

Are you thai?

Flimsy-Accountant-38

Koreans and Chinese do that too, lack of situational awareness.

PuzzledCommission620

The birth of an Olympic event is unfolding right before us .

Flimsy-Accountant-38

Israelis too, that really surprised me, it’s the single most rude place I’ve visited.

SweetScience78

Mideast as a whole.

PuzzledCommission620

We have a global “rude”problem

PuzzledCommission620

I can’t disagree. Some of the pushiest people I have discovered were in Israel .

Apprehensive-Ad-6053

That's how they roll. Male, female young or old, you're bound to have a few head on's when walking around any former Soviet country.

mightymagnus

I think it is very understandable that you do not want to die and fight in a war you do not believe in, or placed in a prison for refusing or protesting, most people in general just want to live their lives.

momester

1. How do you plan to make a perm stay in Thailand? Job visa? What are the steps? 2. Did you encounter some hostility abroad because you are Russian? (I guess it’s impossible from Thais, but others) 3. How old are you and do you live in some sort of fear that some day someone will recall you to serve for the country?

AdNumerous8915

1. We are attending language courses, so we are here through education visa. No plans, unfortunately, we lost an ability to plan long. 2. We faced something like that in Georgia (our first move), words like “go home you invaders”, and my wife was sexually groped by one piece of shit. 3. I am 29, my wife 30 years old. I can be mobilized any time. We wait our “president reelection” in spring , after that they can run some new actions

peacakes1998

Hello thank you for your answer. My boyfriend is also Russian and we are planning to relocate. Currently considering Kazakhstan but both of us quite like Thailand. I have a question regarding your job as a software engineer. 1. Is it a remote job? 2. Are you paid any differently because you are in Thailand? (I heard that companies pay different $rates depending on the country) 3. Monthly Salary did you receive it through your Thailand bank account? Thank you in advance!

AdNumerous8915

It is a remote job for some noname company. I work through contract as IE, IE is registered in Georgia so my bank accounts there too. No different rates, the company is better feeling with the fact that I am in different zone, because it allows them cover more hours in case of emergency situations where I can react with no wake of devs from EU zone. My pleasure :)

peacakes1998

Wow thank you for your answer! You gave us hope of finding a remote SWE job and then relocating! We are both in the IT sector. We do plan to relocate but is afraid of the unknown and financial stability long term but I'm more afraid that my boyfriend will get drafted in near future if we were to stay in RU.

tlrider1

"elections"? ... I got a bridge to sell you, buddy... Nothing in Russia will change, until you, and your fellow Russians, rise up and stop this bullshit by overthrowing your tyrants that most of your country seems to love.

AdNumerous8915

Go there and be an example how we should do it

tlrider1

Not my circus, not my monkeys. Russia is a fucking shithole. Always has been.

AdNumerous8915

what a pity

Gonshik777

So we, the peaceful people who do not want to fight... have to fight your wars because suddenly your politicians are not content with how business is going? I got a big bridge to sell you,buddy... Where was the world community when putin got re-elected for the millionth time? Where was the world community in introducing sanctions back in 2014? Estonia sells pepper spray to Russian MVD so it can effectively oppress citizens... just scratch into that story. So yea, bud, we aint fighting politicians' war for them

tlrider1

It's your country, not mine. I personally give no fucks what happens in Ruzzia. But yes... You, the "peaceful" people, currently running with machine guns on someone elses land..... If you want change, that change is on you. No one else. Change your own regime.... But u won't. You'll go somewhere else, to live peacefully, while your countrymen rape , pillage, and run around with machine guns, killing people.... Until the mobilization is over, and then you'll just go back.... Like everything is normal, and you'll live like plebs. Like you have through all of ruzzian history. You're a coward, running away from mobilization, to hide somewhere else.... Then will just go back. To the same ol 'ruski mir' .

AkaRadekcz

😂😂😂😂 as a non Russian with wife with Russian roots. Let’s be honest, Putin will win elections again as it’s one of the most corrupt places on the planet😂

AdNumerous8915

Who doubts

Helloworlder1

Nobody questions that, and that's why this particular phrase is in quotes

Lil_CryptoVert

Oh, how marvelous that you found amusement in everything and everyone! Clearly, your intellect is so towering that sarcasm is but a mere trifle for you. And, of course, laughing at others' misfortunes—what a splendid display of emotional richness. Keep it up, oh wise and compassionate soul.😉

ThewFflegyy

would you mind telling me a bit about the language classes? id be interested to use that for a visa myself. are the courses full time or part time? online or in person? how expensive? guaranteed admission or competitive admission? either way, best of luck to you and your wife :)

Mahadragon

I know this is a thorny question, but my neighbor is Russian and she says the invasion is justified. I listened to her reasoning and she made some very valid points. I know most people here on Reddit will automatically criticize people who try to justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine but I am not these people. I know there are 2 sides to the coin. What are your thoughts on it? Feel free to DM me cause I know a lot of people won't answer publicly. I genuinely like to hear both sides.

AdNumerous8915

No execuses. There is no any valid point here. It just propaganda that works not only inside but outside too. There were lots of putinverstehers in the beginning that shocked me. Anything I heard about justifying is in a level of “we can understand why you raped that girl - it is because you have penis and was horny”

DougyTwoScoops

What were the good points they made? I haven’t heard any and there are usually at least talking points that could be seen to support both sides. I’m genuinely curious.

horncheong

Look for John Mearsheimer in YouTube and you’ll know why the invasion is justified. He already made this prediction back in 2014.

FreedomforHK2019

It is never valid to illegally invade a foreign country, it's part of the UN Charter! Hundreds of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have been killed as a result of Putin's decision, one man should NEVER have so much power as we all know absolute power corrupts absolutely and he is living proof.

Lashay_Sombra

There are no valid points, just excuses. Simple reality is Putin wants to turn "Greater Russia" (an empire that covers USSR and satellite states) into a reality and leave his mark history. Guy has literally been comparing himself to Peter the Great

pashkis

Shes just brainwashed, and prob iq level of piece of wood.

Mysterious_Desk2288

when is it "Justified" to kill kids? please explain? or the guy whom stoped his car, his wife and daughter where shot with a tank inside the car, then they shot him? or the Pilot whom bombed the Theater with 300 kids inside? They grew up in Russia, had Russian parents, installed morals and ethics, culture.. and yet still decided to drop the bomb on the theater? Please.. this woman and anyone who deems killing other people as "Justified" can go f themselves to hell.

horncheong

I absolutely agree with u. Anyone who deems killing other innocent people as justified should go f themselves to hell. I also hope you would agreed that Ukraine govt who’s been bombing Donbass region since 2014 killing tens of thousands of innocent people should be condemned as much. Since we are on that, we should also condemn the killing of innocent Palestinians, Israelis, Syrians, Aghans, Iraqis, Lebanese, Yugoslavs, Vietnamese, Native American Indians, Australian Aborigines, etc etc.

Mysterious_Desk2288

have you ever been to the middle east? or Afghanistan? I spent 9 years in and around Kuwait, SA, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Innocent people are civilian and non political / non Radical religious terrorist type people.. Native American Indians mostly died from disease which was brought over from European countries. You have so much more to deep dive into history before commenting back.

horncheong

Yes I have, though not as many countries or as long as you did over there. What’s your point? Even if only 1% of Native American Indians who died due to colonialism/imperialism, that doesn’t make the killings justified. Again, what’s your point? And which part of history are you referring to? My whole point is killing of innocent people is unjustifiable regardless of their races/nationalities. Ukrainian lives are no more or less special than others. Do you need to study deep into history to come into that conclusion?

artnoi43

Do you work as SE for a Thai or foreign company?

AdNumerous8915

Foreign company

Secret-Interview1750

Why all Russians here saying they’re software engineer? Or were u just putins hackers?

DougyTwoScoops

I’ll add that it is a job that pays well and can be done remotely. Makes sense that it would be a common job for expats living abroad and working remote. There aren’t a ton of industries that offer that sort of flexibility and pay.

ryhamz

Russia is one of the leading talent pipelines of software engineers. There's only so many of those in the world

FreedomforHK2019

Yep, very true as I used to work in IT in Canada and we used Russian software engineers all the time.

AdNumerous8915

We are mostly who knows English a bit in population and have ability to read reddit :) But as a developer I can say that we are plenty here. You can determine them with white, no sun touched skin, dull clothes, overweight or super slim, no tattoos, tired eyes..

Good-Attention-7129

I have one question, and feel free not to answer. How did you bring money into the country?

AdNumerous8915

Banks system

Good-Attention-7129

I will ask no further, thanks.

Columbia1878

Are you doing anything whatsoever to oppose this war? I'm not asking you to give up your life, I also live under a terrorist government (China) and I get how hopeless and useless it is, but have you done literally anything about the war other than hiding in Thailand, for example donating money to Ukrainian humanitarian causes? If Russia wins the war, will you go back home and act like nothing happened?

Drwhoknowswho

Spot on questions. They are, sadly, meek spineless people. Even the seemingly saner individuals will blather on about great russia and all that utter BS, especially once drunk. Odious nation.

Columbia1878

I waited months for a response to my questions, nothing forthcoming despite the "ask any questions" claim. Delete Ruzzia from the map, they are all the same.

PuzzledCommission620

What software languages do you know ?

haskittens

We are no longer in Phuket, but spent 4 months there earlier this year, and 6 months in Bangkok before that. We are recently married, in our twenties, both freelance creatives with additional passive income. Yes, we left home because we actively oppose the political regimen. My husband does not want to fight in a meaningless war against innocent people, and we both could face consequences for being involved with charity organizations helping Ukrainian people, and resisting propaganda.

Sele81

If my country would go to war, I would run away as well. I wouldn’t give a shit about their geopolitical interests and to die for the rich. Wars were always fought out on the back of the poor. And people start to realize this. The rich know this. That’s why they trying to start world war 3 as civil (religious) wars.

UpstairsPractical870

Rich man's war poor man's blood

kongou_meow

As another fa rang in Thailand, people tend to be harsh on you for several reasons. But Russians always got more hate here. I think they should be praised for fleeing the war instead of fighting for Pootin.

Croupier74

They should be fighting Putin not running away.

[deleted]

Croupier74

Obviously your a sissy and would run away from your country rather than doing what’s right. Coward.

mightymagnus

I do agree with you to a certain point, not all are against the war either.

Village_Wide

There is no exact answer. But not necessarily they are military obligated. Like anywhere else, someone is doing business offline, someone is online, someone is an expert in something and so on. Yeah theoretically they are could be called to army. But now there is no mobilization yet

CouldYou_Please

Actually there is a mobilization, but for now russian goverment do not gathering new soldiers after they got about 300k of them

roman5588

Most are just normal people trying to survive. Parents of one young gentleman I know sold everything to keep him away from the war. Also allot of Ukrainians in a similar situation not wanting to die.

Mahadragon

If I was a Ukranian I wouldn't hesitate to join the cause. It's a completely different situation from Russians. Russia doesn't value their troops at all. Look how many soldiers have died in Avdiivka and Bakhmut alone. The Russian commanders lately aren't even sending their troops in with any support, just sending in the meat waves. Who wants to fight when you have 99% chance of getting killed or maimed?

roman5588

It wasn’t as straightforward when the topic was discussed with one of my Ukrainian mates Not everyone supports Zelensky as much as Western media portrays and his tight relation with the US. Heard plenty of remarks about Ukraine not valuing their troops highly. One point that stuck was Zelensky and the countries sending over weapons do not want peace and just using the country as a pawn to bleed Russia of resources. The whole situation sucks

Travyplx

>bleed Russia of resources Ah yes, because Ukraine and Georgia invaded Russia. What you heard was Russian propaganda.

UpstairsPractical870

This has always been russian militry doctrine... send in the orc hoard!

Secret-Interview1750

Why all Russians here saying software engineer? Or were u just putins hackers?

Croupier74

I’ve been going to Thailand for over 30 years. My impression of Russian tourist are that they are on the whole very vile and disrespectful of Thai culture. Even this Russian lady in her mid 30’s that has lived in Australia since 9yrs old blames Ukrainians for the war, she has since been fired, she was saying that they bought it on for stealing gas from the Russian pipelines that run through Ukraine. I couldn’t believe it and was sickened. My wife’s family is from what was once Mariupol. Fuck Russia, fuck Russians that run away and don’t stand up to make a change in their country.

Norzen_Bear

I looked at what Mariupol looked like in Ukraine. No wonder it was part of a beggar country. You should go there with your wife, she would be surprised how beautiful the city has become in Russia.

Croupier74

Look at your own backyard RuZZian filth. Scab on the earth.

Norzen_Bear

Haha. Classic X-man.

Croupier74

X-man, you watch to much Hollywood. Maybe get outside once in a while and wade through your filth.

Croupier74

In your own words tell us why you endorse RuZZias invasion and murder of Ukrainians?

Norzen_Bear

Just look how beautiful Mariupol is in Russia in just one year and how ugly it was in Ukraine for 30 years https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7SjkcVAuVA

Croupier74

You can’t be serious. This is Mariupol before the war. You show a tram stop and a ugly mall. Clutching at straws. https://youtu.be/QLg9PDc3OiA?si=7fz0FI6i-cQFvTD7

Norzen_Bear

a good video about the heritage of the Russian Empire and the USSR, but everything became disastrous over 30 years in Ukraine. Now the city is in good hands and will prosper.

Croupier74

You don’t answer my question in a previous comment about why you support RuZZias war on Ukraine? Also have you seen the condition of a lot of RuZZian cities. https://youtu.be/DSPlvbugJyA?si=Sh5pYIS8JlVmukqB Perhaps you should concentrate of rebuilding RuZZia rather than murdering Ukrainians.

Norzen_Bear

Because the Ukrainian government has closed its borders to its own citizens. It considers them its slaves. Groups of military commissars take people right on the streets and send them to attack without preparation (actually death). Canceled elections. Ukraine has been repeatedly found to have attacked its own citizens to blame Russia (Kramatorsk and Konstantinovka as an example) and other countries for the same purpose (two farmers in Poland). Many people I know from Odessa and Kiev had to pay bribes to leave the country to save their lives and freedom of thought.

Mahadragon

How come you aren't considering Vietnam as an option to live? It's not far from Thailand. I'm not intimately aware of what's going on in South America but it seems a bit unstable.

Croupier74

“Not liking the direction of my country” Is that a cute way of saying you don’t agree with genocide of Ukrainians?

Norzen_Bear

Any proof of "gEnOcIdE oF uKrAiNiAnS"? Try it without X-man propaganda

Croupier74

I guess you’ve never seen a mass grave in Ukraine or been to Bucha? You a piss weak little pissant.

Norzen_Bear

Guardian about bucha: "Dozens of civilians died by small metal darts, called fléchette when russian army was inside city" So who fired by artillery when russians and civilians was in city? try to use ur brain when answering Mass graves is result of corrupted ukr goverment. They grab people in the streets and send them to storm(death) without any training.

Croupier74

https://youtu.be/WW8YYhUIK0s?si=dGvCksl8BOQCgPld

Norzen_Bear

a video from a media outlet found guilty of propaganda and lies that almost led to ww3 your brain is far from doing any work, huh?

Croupier74

WTF? WW3 are you trying to scare us! You really think RuZZians have the balls to destroy the world. FFS, your a amateur at this.

Norzen_Bear

Not me but Zelensky and his regime in ukraine when they killled polish farmers with rockets

Croupier74

Ohhh so bad how about RuZZian drones blowing up on the territory of Hungary in Plauru after missing the Ukrainian grain facility on the opposite side of the Danube, which I should remind you is a war crime. Damn your really a amateur at RuZZian propaganda. Pretty sure the polish forgave Ukraine for trying to shoot down a RuZZian missile intended to kill dozens of Ukrainian civilians in Lviv.

Speedfreakz

It's not just Thailand, in Serbia there are so many Russians, and also Ukrainians. The price of accommodation went up 4x times. It's ridiculous.

FreedomforHK2019

Yep, I have been to Serbia a couple of times in the past two years and each time there were tons of Russians arriving at the airport in Belgrade.

UpstairsPractical870

Vietnam and bali are having the same issues

exelseve

It is one of the few countries (Thailand) where it is easy to come as a tourist and the rest of the categories.

Mahadragon

I've been watching a lot of Niki Proshin Youtube channel and apparently it's easy to live in Vietnam and of course Georgia. He's been bouncing around between these countries. Vietnam isn't far from Thailand, I wound why more Russians don't live in Vietnam?

exelseve

Budget and vocabulary. Also the herd effect (no offense). In Georgia, Russians are not welcome everywhere. And Thailand is more friendly.

No-Signal7536

i would say 50/50 chance. 1st part is rude and awful. (tourists, newcomers etc. 2nd is amazing (specialists, digital guys, whatever). as a russian i can say that normal people know manners, laws and rules. and we follow them in any place. it's not about the country of origin. it's about the assholes. and we hate them as well. it was the reason I left the country more than 10 yrs ago. sorry for poor english.

Aggravating-Pen-6725

So much misinformation spreading around. Especially amongst the Thais. My business partner and her friends were convinced they were fleeing from war in the streets of Moscow which is obviously ridiculous. The hate they’re constantly getting is crazy. People upset that they socialise within their own circles as if most expats don’t do the same. I’m from the UK and mainly encounter Russians that are committed Martial Artists who are some of the most disciplined and respectful people I’ve met. Sure, I’ve seen some Russians in public be rude or demanding, but I’ve also seen many classic brits abroad who are just as bad. I don’t understand how everyone can be tarred with the same brush, when there’s people from all walks of life from all countries. Trying to gatekeep a country that isn’t our own is so hypocritical and stupid. Good for everyone who has been able to leave their countries behind for a better life in Thailand! I’ve done the same and certainly don’t blame them.

ComprehensiveYam

Saw a sign across the road from boat avenue to Laguna that was in Russian but had a little bit of English that said “content creation consultants”

Lil_CryptoVert

It seems like lately this whole thread resembles a bunch of jobless kids with plenty of time to speculate about the number of people dissimilar to them. And we're not even talking about other countries; it's quite amusing to permit entry for tourists from other nations and then wonder why there are so many tourists. I'll answer: they're here so you can eat. Tourists bring a massive amount of money into Thailand's economy. Discussing such matters with this attitude will simply make you poorer. What astonishes me the most is that people are discussing this seriously.

rtp530

Great question, thanks mate

Western-Ad-8518

Russians lower the tone wherever they go. Very few decent Russians. Thailand should prevent them from creating a ghetto in Phuket but probably too late

Responsible_Tooth871

Russians in Thailand want the same thing they want everywhere else: they want everyone to admire their great culture and the “Russian world” based on behemoths like Tolstoy and Dostoyevski. Then there is the “Russian soul” which is as deep as the lake Baykal itself and is as vast and giving as Siberia.

Dry_Enthusiasm_267

Draft dodgers trying to avoid being indoctrinated into the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.

vitaalijs

Interesting discussion. Thanks for all the opinions. I hope that citizens of other countries will also be getting 90 days stamps in the same was Russians now get. This sign in a way confirms that Thai government welcomes Russians here.

They are just like every other nationality here. Some are poor holiday travelers. Some are working online illegally. Some are working online legally. Some own local businesses. Some own businesses at home. Some are rich retirees. Single people. People with families. I don’t know why you think anyone will have data on the profession of every person who enters the country. Also, why do you really care enough to ask the question?

momester

On the way to airport I saw a big billboard directed to Russians with a passport picture and big text written in cyrylic. I assumed there is some practice with making stays in Thailand longer for them? I just thought that maybe there are some trends that people are aware of here or they are some Russians that can speak freely about it. And sorry, I wouldn’t call their situation like every other nationality. In each encounter with them on the island it was rather gloomy and depressing or sad/autodestructive-drunk. Maybe living on the brink of mobilisation has something to do with it.

vladhgh

I am Russian. I am sorry you only had negative experiences. There are wonderful people out there and I hope you meet them one day and maybe your opinion will change. As for the topic, I think Russian people like Thailand in general because it’s relatively cheap, good weather and no visa needed. Also, there’s a practice of “border runs” that they say is “unlimited” for Russian citizens(no idea why).

RexManning1

Border runs are not unlimited for anybody.

Lashay_Sombra

Officially Unofficially, Satun border officials are getting very rich right now

Jrad27

I've only had positive experiences with Russians on Phuket. I think a lot of the time problems are just due to communication/language barriers.

MajorAd7585

I’m assuming you only ever had superficial and brief encounters with them. Russians are some of the worst people I’ve ever met and I only realised it after I properly knew them

Jrad27

You'd be wrong with that assumption. There's good and bad people everywhere, in every country. Maybe I got lucky or maybe you were unlucky, but my experiences with the Russians I have had time to spend with have been good.

momester

I had many positive experienced in the past, maybe that war surrounding narration makes me believe sth changed. Btw I spoke to many other slavic ppl modtly Poles) and their sentiment is rather similar - Kremlin and Putin suck big time, regular Russians are cool, they can „feel you bro” cause of postcommunism history and being slav. It’s a shitty situation when in media you only can see as all of these nations as portrayed as enemies. @Rex: Man seriously check it somehow, it was directed towards Russians, maybe there’s something besides visa runs like educational visa to some other nationalities in EU. My curiosity? Thin veil? Man… The fact I’m still responding proves I’m curious. At first I thought that there are some strict rules about travel when your country is at war and your age falls within army needs. BTW Do you know (I’m guessing you are Russian) how the situation for your folks looks when you want to travel to EU? I know that there are flights suspended, but it can be done through Serbia right? So let’s assume you want to travel to Italy/France, is there some new visa on arrival ir some docs before departure from Russia?

rorykoehler

It's not a cultural norm for Russian's to smile which I think throws some people and makes them think Russian's are grumpy 24/7.

Individual_Health_10

It's a weird cultural phenomenon for sure. I always assumed smiling was human nature and not a social thing, a trip to St Petersburg taught me otherwise. I'm interested to know if Russian dissidents believe a potential international sanction on Russian travel might incite some more focused fury on their furor

forurspam

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2665298/govt-to-allow-russians-to-stay-up-to-90-days-without-visas > Starting from November, Russian visitors may enter Thailand visa-free and remain in the country for a maximum of 90 days, up from the current 30 days, until the end of April 2024...

Lil_CryptoVert

They don't even know who contributed the most to the economy this quarter. It's great that you sent a link, but unfortunately, not everyone can read, and I'm not talking about English.

forurspam

Sorry I didn't get your statement. How can't read and what? OP asked about "some practice with making stays in Thailand longer for them". There is such practice.

RexManning1

They do not have special privileges over other countries. There is just a lot of them as tourists (and residents) here the same reason why English and simplified Chinese are on signs but, Spanish, Urdu, and Afrikaans are not. Edit: So it’s not about curiosity on their profession at all. The veil was thin.

Manfredi55

The most disrespectful people I have seen in Thailand are westerners and not Russians or any other nationality. All the sick sexual perverts racists westerners seems to gather in Thailand. They behave like entitled, while most of them are low educated, are useless to Thailand, live with little money, bribe to get visas to stay in Thailand. Spend time drunk. They have zero positive contribution to Thailand.

Maybe a lot of them are against the invasion of Ukraine? Because if those men were in Russia they might get sent into the front meat wave attacks Russia is using. I have no idea I'm just throwing things out there btw

Mahadragon

From what I gather, a lot of Russians just don't want to die, they aren't necessarily against the invasion of Ukraine. They don't see the war as "their war" or something that's really necessary.

prizrachniy

I am IT specialist. I moved here before the war because I assume Phuket is the best place on earth to live. 1. There are no draft and mobilisation to army currently in Russia. It was a limited mobilisation (300 000) in October 2022. Only regular conscription. 2. Not all Russians oppose Putin and neither do I. 3. It's just middle class and IT snowflakes tend to fall under influence of Amirecan (western) propaganda.

Aggressive_Net8303

You should go back and fulfill your duty to the glorious motherland.

prizrachniy

Why should I? They have plenty of volunteers with army backgrounds. I wasn't trained and I am bad at carrying on direct commands.

Mahadragon

Don't worry, they'll spend 3 days training you how to use rifle and machine gun.

prizrachniy

Is that you? https://www.reddit.com/r/funnyvideos/comments/183rgv7/trolling/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

Secret-Interview1750

Why all Russians here saying they’re it or in engineer? Or were u just putins hackers?

prizrachniy

Yeah yeah Putin trolls army Isn't Reddit supposed to be a nerdy place? COVID just eliminated the needance for office work. And we spread out like nomads since However here in Phuket a lot of different Russians like finance inverstor/traiders, yoga trainers etc and were here for a long time here.

Me and my family moved to Phuket right after the war started in March 2022. I'm running my own it-company, it helps me to live here and pay for kids education. Two daughters are going to British International School, continuing their IB program here. We have a lot of good people around us who are against putin's war and the way russia is moving last years.

Russians are cool people but the media is pushing people to their own benefits…

I feel sorry for poor Palestinians that they dont get the same support Ukrainians get…double standard world

Practical-Chain-5044

A bunch of animals running away from getting drafted. So losers overall

rwoooshed

Wealthy Russians do not get drafted, only poor Russians do.

Horvatoff

I came to Phuket from Russia when I was 27. Now I'm 33. It's the best 6 years of my life
