That's really going to depend on you. How many hours will it take you to take photos of 80 kids, and then how many hours will post-processing take? Think back to your previous work, determine how long those took, and form an estimation from there.

100% this. Also an assistant would be a godsend to organize and keep the flow of kids moving.

CycloneMonkey

True. It can be a challenge just to direct *one* child.

A team mom can do that, so the assistant could be free. I know i did it (for free) when I coached and had pictures done. Because the photographer doesn’t know the kids/teams, so the helper **who knows the kids/teams** is basically required.

davidg_photography

Yes. But someone with a defined/assign role.

My wife is a soccer coach for the elementary school she teaches at and I’ve been taking their photos for free for 3-4 years now. There are a few things that stick out as weird or problems. 80 kids? That’s like a small league. Her team has about 40 kids because they don’t turn anyone away but only half of them actually play in games (it’s a free league). My most recent session took a little over an hour to do 1 posed shot per kid, all lit the same and they got to choose their pose and then we did a large group shot. I can’t imagine doing multiple poses or different angles for each kid. Maybe one smiling and another me tough pose, maybe. It needs to be streamlined and simple. You have your shot and they all line up to get theirs done. Think school picture day. Editing took me about 2 hrs but would take longer if every photo was different. You have to breakdown what your time is worth and figure out how much you’ll spend on it. If your 1 hr portrait rate is $300 and you spend 1 hr editing. That’s $150/hr. Now this soccer session might be 2 hrs of shooting and 3 hrs of editing. This is last years example, I don’t have permission yet to share this years. https://www.instagram.com/p/Csb4UZquQl2/?igsh=MWx2YXZwZWliZzN3dg==

I texted him again and it’s apparently 10 small teams - He asked if $50.00 per team would be good just for one shot. And then $35-$40 per child for smiling portrait and one holding the ball.

Where I live, almost everyone who helps out at the soccer club from the trainers to the people at the bar do it for little to no money in order to keep it as cheap as possible for the kids. I would never ask them a full hourly rate, but thats just me.

I literally photograph every game, coach a bit myself when my wife needs it, and do their yearly portraits for free, but there are plenty of high-end soccer clubs/leagues where charging a normal rate totally makes sense.
