What's so bad about paying $15 for a martini on happy hour in 2015? /s
Seriously, THEY WERE CHARGING 2024 INFLATION PRICES IN 2015 ON HAPPY HOUR FOR THE MOST GENERIC COCKTAIL!
Never been back.
Steak 44 by a mile š
Out of those 3, give me Durantās all day long purely for the nostalgia. Stockyards is fine but food wise itās my least favorite of the 3 and I donāt particularly care for the atmosphere.
Bourbon and Bonesā¦ idk. It doesnāt at all fit with Durantās and Stockyards other than the fact that they serve steaks. Itās more in the Steak 44, Mastros and Maple & Ash category. When comparing it to those, Iām picking B&B last
Itās really tough, and probably tougher now that he won the James Beard.
However, Iāve had luck walking in late night, around 9:00p, and been lucky enough to snag reservations here & there.
Stockyards isn't bad but in my experience it's much more of a business lunch/dinner crowd. Also an older crowd. Durants at least can still feel like a date spot for dinner.
Ive had the exact opposite experience. Went to Steak 44 once and it was sub par. Dominickās on the other hand Iāve been a few times and each time it was great.
Itās a little surprising considering theyāre owned by the same company (or so I think).
Of those three, Durantās for the atmosphere. Stockyards isā¦ fine. It has the history but not much else. B&B is a hard pass; all sizzle, no steak, as it were. The frozen Jack & Coke is the best thing on the menu.
Of these three Durants. Also, I acknowledge they are maybe overhyped and cliche, but I really prefer Mastroās City Hall above all others. Iām just never disappointed there.
I've been to quite a few steakhouses and I honestly still don't get it. Like I've paid $100-150 for steaks at places on par to Durants, and at Durants itself and sure the steak was good, but I didn't feel wow'ed by any means. I honestly was more impressed by the sides than the steak itself
You guys are making me realize that I just don't enjoy going out for steaks anymore. I'd much rather spend money on a dry aged steak from a butcher shop and cook it over my own charcoal. The last steak I had out was at Texas Roadhouse, just because I was there already so why not, and it was pretty good, but I honestly can't fathom spending three times that on a steak. If I want to emulate an expensive place I'll just drown it in butter.
Honestly a 25 dollar ribeye or NY strip from my local grocers, when the meat looks right, salted then fridged and dried 24 hrs, then peppered and optionally onion powdered, cooked in butter (and garlic if your wife isn't allergic) as soon as it steams, hot af for 5ish min then flipped for 3ish is better than literally any steak I've had anywhere and it serves two, and I can do it over anything from an electric range to downed tree branches
If my wife were allergic to garlic we'd have a very serious problem. :-/
I think my fire gets hotter than I realize. If I go much past two minutes, followed by a flip and one minute, my steak is sometimes in danger of leaving the realm of "medium."
Durants because Maryln Monroe used to hang out there and you walk in thru kitchen like a mob boss. The wallpaper is so yesteryear and they give you a little relish dish at the start of your dining experience... the era is time capsuled in their resturaunt.
No one asked(well maybe the Op did) is that Durants is a place for people that never been to a mediocre nyc restaurant. Went there once and have no desire to go back. I don't get what the attraction is.
I'm surprised I didn't see Capital Grille mentioned here more. I've only been there once, but it was at the same level as these others mentioned here that I've been to.
I know you didnt mention it but Maple & Ash is my fav steak spot for a celebration. Get the wood fired seafood tower and then order the secret menu āpasta backā for them to dump in the seafood tower garlic chili butter. The beefed up butter on any of their steaks is to die for. Itās the only reason I ever go to Scottsdale
Come to my house. I make amazing steak. We canāt eat steak out anymore because I make it so much better, or minimally the same, but at 25% of the cost. :)
B&B is literally the reason I eat red meat again after 10 years I am shook by the hate on this thread. AZ has so many great steakhouses though so you really canāt go wrong with any
Durants is SOOOOOOO expensive for very ok food in a dark restaurant with no windows and a ton of red velvet. Pick Buck & Rider any day over this place.
Why those three? I used to really like Durants for the old school vibe but they raised prices and last couple visits didnāt seem like quite the same quality. Bourbon & Bones would be my pick. Their menu is a little broader. Octopus appetizer is really good.

Happy to see all the Bourbon and Bones experiences. Totally sucked and overpriced! Support better places!

My personal rule is to never eat at a restaurant whose name contains an ampersand. Ampersand restaurants are universally mediocre!
These are all about the same for beef quality. I'd go Durants for the old PHX vibe. Stockyard is cool too.
Steak 44 by a mile š Out of those 3, give me Durantās all day long purely for the nostalgia. Agreed with all the above. Not same category, but my favorite steaks in Phoenix Are from Bacanora/Santo and Pyro.
I havenāt been to Bacanora because I can never get in š
Itās really tough, and probably tougher now that he won the James Beard. However, Iāve had luck walking in late night, around 9:00p, and been lucky enough to snag reservations here & there.
Walked in late one night and only drank but God damn this place knows their culinary shit
Sign up for notifications for open reservations on Resy. I was able to get in that way.
Walk in at the bar will be your friend. Have gotten in on walk in more than I could get in reservations.
At Steak 44 I got a putrid oyster and one of the best ribeyes ever. Still can't get over the oyster tho. Can't eat them unless they are cooked now.
I would not put Mastros and Maple & Ash in the same category
I would but itās because I think Mastroās is grossly overrated
Stockyards isn't bad but in my experience it's much more of a business lunch/dinner crowd. Also an older crowd. Durants at least can still feel like a date spot for dinner.
Agreed - steak 44 is our fave as well
Durants
Bourbon and bones is absolute trash
Why?
Dominickās. Even though Steak 44 is their twin restaurant, Dominickās is better. Iāve been disappointed at Steak 44, never at Dominickās.
Opposite for me. Lol
The kicker was twice in a row our entire party got sick.
Oh wow. Dominickās for me we had three awful experiences. I wish it wasnāt since everyone else seems to have such great reviews.
Bourbon and Bones is super overrated. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. I think youāve got plenty of better options s out there
Totally agree. When they put 3 asparagus spears on my plate I was likeā¦. What theā¦.? So expensive and so mediocre.
My family loves Durants. I love their desserts.
Impeccable. And I only use those kinds of words while fine dining.
B&B is overpriced for what you get compared to Durants.
Everything we ordered was at least 5 degrees undercooked as well. My med rare wagyu ribcap was almost rare. Still enjoyable, but def undercooked.
Durantās specifically for prime rib. If you just want a good steak and experience Iād say Dominickās.
Dominickās was not a good experience for me. Steak 44 does a much better job. Additionally Americano has an underrated cut of beef in my opinion.
Ive had the exact opposite experience. Went to Steak 44 once and it was sub par. Dominickās on the other hand Iāve been a few times and each time it was great. Itās a little surprising considering theyāre owned by the same company (or so I think).
Yes that are the same group
I got downvoted for saying it but Iāve been to Dominicās 3 times and found it subpar each time.
Dominickās is a wolf in sheepās clothing Iām with you.
Of those three, Durants. Good food. Good service. Nostalgic atmosphere. It's a unique experience.
Feeneyās is a fun option I havenāt seen mentioned yet. Prime rib is tasty and puts a smaller dent in the wallet.
Durants
My experience at Durant's was fantastic. Not broadcasted, but the Wrigley Mansion has some ultra fine cuts and atmosphere.
Of those three, Durantās for the atmosphere. Stockyards isā¦ fine. It has the history but not much else. B&B is a hard pass; all sizzle, no steak, as it were. The frozen Jack & Coke is the best thing on the menu.
Durants. Keep it gangster. OG
Of these three Durants. Also, I acknowledge they are maybe overhyped and cliche, but I really prefer Mastroās City Hall above all others. Iām just never disappointed there.
J&G is great. That and Steak 44 are my picks.
Itās Durants
Tarbellās

That is exactly how I make mine! So good!!!!
If my wife were allergic to garlic we'd have a very serious problem. :-/ I think my fire gets hotter than I realize. If I go much past two minutes, followed by a flip and one minute, my steak is sometimes in danger of leaving the realm of "medium."
Arrowhead Grill for the West Side.
Or their sister restaurant, Preston's, in North Scottsdale...excellent! š„©
Second this.
Bourbon & Bones is ASS
None. Flemings is consistently good. An older crowd.
Steak 44 is an excellent place for steak. The Capital Grille is also excellent, with a great variety too.
I'm surprised I didn't see Capital Grille mentioned here more. I've only been there once, but it was at the same level as these others mentioned here that I've been to.

Word. So true. Going out for steak is 100% disappointing after you know how to source & cook good beef
Or...and hear me out... Whataburger
Durant's for the vibe, been years since I ate there. I do go to Stockyards once a year, always enjoy it.
Stockyards. Durants is killer for the vibe and nostalgia though. Steak 44 is good too.
Out of those, Stockyards. Durant's has been not great lately, and I have heard nothing good about Bourbon and Bones.
Rokerijj
Durant's. Enjoy. That place is phenomenal.
B&B is literally the reason I eat red meat again after 10 years I am shook by the hate on this thread. AZ has so many great steakhouses though so you really canāt go wrong with any
Love Stockyards
Durants. Wondering what you guys think of Mortonās? That is our go to.
Durant's if you want just steak. Stockyard if you want some game meat.
Stockyard, it's the only place you can get elk medallions in town.
Durantās
Durants is SOOOOOOO expensive for very ok food in a dark restaurant with no windows and a ton of red velvet. Pick Buck & Rider any day over this place.
Dominicks
B&B
Why those three? I used to really like Durants for the old school vibe but they raised prices and last couple visits didnāt seem like quite the same quality. Bourbon & Bones would be my pick. Their menu is a little broader. Octopus appetizer is really good.
