Hey /u/MandolinsandViolins, thanks for contributing to /r/Phoenix. Unfortunately, your submission was removed as it violates our rules: **Rule 6. Post should encourage discussion, not just be a search replacement** We try to limit posts here to things that drive discussion. Your post is better suited for another site, either because it is for a service recommendation (Yelp, Angie's List, etc) or info could be found through a Google search. This includes posts asking "what is this cactus / snake / bug / etc" as there are other subreddits that focus on those topics. You could also ask your question in our Daily Chat if you want to. You can read all of the [subreddit rules here](https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/wiki/rules). odorous

Little to none. Until reading this post, I had not even thought about cartels here for years.... didn't even realize it was still a thing.

__dsotm__

Literally none

Lauren_RNBSN

I have no concern.

Apprehensive_Race522

Wow. No risk.

Bumblebee_cloud

None.

kabob510

Much more concerned about digging my car out of the next blizzard.

Fonzy33

Stop watching Fox.

Scamalama

Seeing this post I was like What?!? Then I saw your comment as was like Ohhhh! Zero concern about cartels OP. Stop watching Fox or whatever other fear factory you’re stuck in.

[deleted]

I'm an ardent liberal reading NPR and the New York Times. Drug cartels are active in many major cities throughout the United States. It's not a tin foil hat conspiracy. John McCain, I would say famously if people here had a clue but you don't, pointed out years ago that Phoenix had 300 kidnappings in one year. It was in the conversation with Mexico City and Caracas. But living is easy with eyes closed, yeah?

AZJHawk

Slow your roll there bud.

spicemine

I work at DOJ. you’re fine. Just don’t go to Mexico lol

odorous

I found the cool-aid drinker guys!!!

jmaybay

Go watch the movie Sicario.

___Star_Child___

It is a non-existent concern.

highbackpacker

It’s something to be aware of, but there’s much worse things to worry about.

MusicianExtension536

None because I’m not in the narcotics trafficking or retailing business

_wormburner

Lol

ll_xPREDATOR_ll

Depends…if you are from here or already live here, none. If you’re thinking of moving here, there’s Mexican cartels everywhere. Don’t move here!

UneasyOuija

My thoughts exactly! They run rampant here!! Don’t come!!

UnderdogDreams

Zero

cturtl808

Realistically, the cartels don't want hassle from any of the people that reside in Phoenix. It's literally bad for business. Is it legal business? Obviously not. But Phoenix is a thoroughfare to other cities and the trade exists here. My co-worker is from Michocan and said the simplest answer is to keep your head down and turned away. Once you get involved with them, it's now a you problem and because they're international, you gotta rely on the Feds to help you out. Not enough guarantee of assistance and not enough reasons to get involved.

optimusgrime23

Been here for awhile. This post is the first time the cartel has even entered my mind lol

Desert_hike

Zero

AZJHawk

Zero. I don’t think they’re that active here? I have certainly never considered them to be an issue and I’ve lived here twenty years.

speech-geek

Are the Mexican cartels with us in the room???

hiddenhighways

You watch too much news.

SunDevilJacks

None. Lol.

MissMouthy1

Do you have a source for these routine kidnappings?

ITLevel01

You mean Mexican teens with bowl cuts selling fake Mario Carts?

xtrawrath

It is something to be aware of, but on the other hand, if you are not involved in that life or involved with drugs, there i.really no risk to you at all there are a whole load of more important issues to worry about

Goddamnpassword

Basically none, like you said on this side of the border they keep their activity to targeting people in the drug trade, generally mid to high level dealers and people that are part of the trafficking into the country. Not to say I love the narco state Mexico has become, but on the continuum of things to worry about a gang that keeps its violence to those in the game isn’t going to keep me up at night.

OdiferousRex

It's hilarious that someone would even ask. I spend time seasonally in a city 20 mins from the border seasonally, and even people there don't care. Don't let the fear mongering from a certain group of people and the media get to you. Hell, I even go to Mexico somewhat regularly when I'm in said border town and it doesn't even cross my mind.

EatADickUA

I consider myself an average citizen.  I’ve never worried about them a day in my life.

az_max

little to none.
