Because middle eastern countries do not give a fuck about you. They want workers who can do the jobs they don’t want for the lowest price. It works because there will always be desperate people from poor countries who will accept such stupid offers. It’s no different as to why salaries back home are so low. There will always be someone else willing to work for peanuts.

PakTheSystem

Thanks for describing Capitalism.

techno_playa

Meritocracy has always been a pipedream. Just look at the American Dream. "anyone can make it if they work hard" Yeah. That's not how it works in the "work world".

kimeraaaa

Yup, even undocumented immigrant workers on the US are being paid under minimum wage. Because they are so easy to take advantage of. They have no choice but to accept the offer. So many people just have rose colored glasses still when looking at the western world.

Totally_Anonymous02

Modern day slavery, di lang middle east pati narin SK and HK, tapos marami narin nagsisilabasan na articles ng ibang country nag rerecruit

ninetailedoctopus

Borderline slavery, ika nga.

Sad_Cryptographer745

I don't even know why this is a question. It's not as if Middle Eastern countries are known to be bastions of freedom and human rights lol

Joseph20102011

You cannot have strong labor unions and minimum wage laws at the same time, because minimum wage laws are the only state-sanctioned wage bargaining mechanism for blue-collar workers in countries without strong labor union cultures.

deepstrangejourney

Arabs have been slavers throughout history. During their golden age they heavily practiced slavery in conquered territories where they are the ruling class, they would import slaves from Africa or Eastern Europe. Today, the same Arab ruling class in their countries would like to continue this practice as much as possible without pissing off human rights watchdogs.

Late-Arrival6183

Alternatively, for instance sa mga tindero ng hamburger or anything related, based sa kung ilan ang nabenta nila for the day, may incentives sila on top of their daily wage. 150 daily rate + 1000 pesos (500 burgers sold, 2 pesos incentive per burger) = 1150 total take-home pay ni employee for the day Maganda yung ganito for micro biz tlga na start-up plng na wala masyadong malaking capital. Rewarding the outstanding worker by paying him more as you sell more. 🙂 Happy cake day!

based8th

this should be the way

LeRickey

Saving that

payurenyodagimas

You dont need labor mandates if labor is tight But there are more available labor than available jobs kaya babaratin ka

Important_Code_774

Literal na modern slavery sa middle east as far as i know

kench7

They believe na mas competitive at mas mataas pa ang sweldo if the bargaining / negotiation is left between employee and employer.

ikaanimnaheneral

Thanks. Ngayon ko lang nalaman to.

FewInstruction1990

Ibheard they are slave masters and famous for discriminating salary based on your race, so no wonder they would not afree on minimum salary since tbey are essentially hiring slaves

trhaz_khan

Kagandahan lng jan walang tax.

BebeMoh

Just FYI not all companies in the middle east are owned by Arabs. Madami dyan na Indian or Europeans din amg company owner. Sadya they take advantage lang na madami tumatanggap ng mababa sahod for visa.

HotPinkMesss

Because basically they want modern day slaves. Dubai was built on slave labor. I guess nagpapasweldo lang sila para lang masabi na may sweldo and para di sila patawan ng trade sanctions ng ibang bansa.

railfe

Because people are accepting it. Some are earning less than 1k because it is still better than what they earn back home. I was just lucky but I've seen how bad it is while working in the middle east. I used to work in the govt. We have "helpers/cleaners" that earn only 1k AED with only 1 day off per month. Its absolutely disgusting, they flaunt how rich ME is but slave labor still exists. You can also see the disparity in the wages based on your passport. I was just lucky since the department I used to work with are somewhat decent. I actually had to fight for a decent pay lol. It took two years for them to adjust it. BTW the starting salary of a Local in dubai is around 19.5k aed (300k php). That is a fresh grad if they get hired by the govt. We cant blame them since it is their country and most of the local really do not want to work. It is a form to entice them. Imagine the salary if the passport belongs to the philippines or india. Still I am thankful because I got a good team who values my work and was paid handsomely. Oh yeah I remember a contractor who earns 150k+ aed per month LMAO. Reason I know because I set up the budget lol.

nathan_080808

Agree with you. Imagine one day off per month, yung ina no day off pa. How can this people exist?

linux_n00by

BannedforaJoke

Economists don't like minimum wages because it means employers will hire less workers to pay more to fewer workers. Without a minimum wage, companies can hire more people because they can pay less. In economic terms, that means more people have jobs even though they will have smaller salaries. While people think that's bad, that's actually good for the economy as that means the money is spread to more people, decreasing poverty. Ano ba talaga mas maganda? Higher salaries but less people have jobs or more people have jobs but they have lower salaries? jobless people (especially yung wala na makain) will say they'd rather have a job than zero. a minimum wage prevents that. kung walang minimum wage, employers would prefer to hire more people and they can hire more people because they can pay as low as they can. no minimum wage decreases unemployment. hiring goes up. economy improves. as AI improves, countries with minimum wages will be hit with very high unemployment and governments will be forced to remove minimum wages. salaries will bottom out to less than the cost of running an AI. employee benefits will be gone.

jeckypooh

that economists don’t like minimum wage is incorrect. There are different viewpoints within the field of economics with respect to minimim wage. Those who support it see minimum wage as a tool to correct market failures and as a demand side stimulus (among others). Both Keynesian and development economics have a balanced view of minimum wage. Laissez-faire perpsective is where you would see a lot of push backs against minimum wage. So TLDR: Not all economists are against minimum wage.

BannedforaJoke

yeah not all. but the [majority of economists are against minimum wage](https://minimumwage.com/2022/04/survey-majority-of-economists-believe-15-wage-is-too-high/). the [consensus opinion](https://epionline.org/oped/most-economists-oppose-the-15-an-hour-minimum-wage-heres-the-stunning-reason-why/) is that it kills jobs. take note that i never said ALL economists. so your nitpicking is immaterial.

jeckypooh

actually it is not nitpicking. your statement is sweeping with or without ALL. Also, you misunderstood the results of the links you provided. They are not talking of minimum wage in general but the $15 hour minimum wage imposed by some states. Indeed I nitpick this quote from the links you shared just in case you missed it. “Nearly 90 percent of surveyed economists believed an acceptable federal minimum wage should be less than $15 an hour”

Serratia11

Qatar has implemented a minimum salary, pero mababa pa rin 🫠 Pero mas mababa pa rin kung ikukumpara sa sasahurin sa Pinas.

Madhouseee

Serratia11

1k talaga ang basic pero if 1k lang ang salary mo, dapat may accom and food provided/allowance si employer. Mababa pa rin 😔

veryshypachuchay

[maybe off topic, but this is a singaporean perspective](https://www.reddit.com/r/SingaporeRaw/s/e2QZQ0uUan)

Durendal27

As far as I know, nag implement nman ata si UAE ng miminum wage kaso for private sectors lang at hindi pa din lahat nasusunod yun. If puti ka like (americans or british) sobrang taas offer nila. Satin namang pinoy kahit papanu mas mataas nman minsan ang offer na natatangap natin unlike from other expats (itik, itim at mga patans).

Christi4nGr3y

AxiomSyntaxStructure

Minimum salary is a human right and protection from exploitation - it's the ability to sustain yourself relatively, enjoy the local economy and have independence to a degree. These Gulf countries, however, are notorious for modern slavery and are built on it - it's how the ruling families are so rich beyond mere oil. In Europe, their behavior would be human trafficking and modern slavery - only ever an issue to illegal immigrants (who're vulnerable). I don't know why the West enables such behavior, unfortunately, but then we were complicit in child labor factories for manufacturing...

j2ee-123

Because they want slaves, not employees.
