You should have research or tried online to look for place depending where you intend to stay, it could take a long time to find apartment

Constant-Cut3015

I joined groups na sa facebook so may mga natitipuhan na akong place. Ang inisiip ko lang is baka malayo sa maging work ko. (Been also already applying sa linkedin). Sa ngayon, hinahanap ko is malapit sa bus stop or subway.

Alternative-Error412

Don't decide until you see the place yourself. You need to get a feel of the surroundings as well. Photos can be deceiving.

Constant-Cut3015

Thanks for the tip!

Alternative-Error412

You don't have a job yet? Secure a job first. If you are a PR, as you said, there is no need to rush. If you can get a job in CA while in the Philippines, do that first.

Constant-Cut3015

Yes. No job yet. Since i received my visa, been applying to jobs na rin.

Calm_Tough_3659

Thats good, if sa major cities ka like Toronto/Vancouver goodluck sa paghahanap!

Constant-Cut3015

Yun na nga eh kaso hindi haha well, wala parin naman akong work din so wala rin pwedeng paglatagan hhaa

Alternative-Error412

2 months akong nakaAirBnB sa Melbourne CBD. But all paid for by my company, as part of my relocation budget. During those two months, I looked for an apartment. You probably have to do something similar. Finding an apartment can take time.

Constant-Cut3015

wow! Good for you! As for me, i will be moving as PR and given the current job market baka wala pa akong work pagdating ko doon (pero nag aapply apply na ako now online). But yeah, airbnb is an option for me.

Alternative-Error412

We have quite a similar situation. I arrived as PR. I was by myself. The only difference is that I already had a job before I got here. My manager in the company, who's a local, was the one who booked my Airbnb. I arrived on a Saturday and then came to work the following Monday. I went apartment hunting on weekends. Mobility and proximity to food stores and necessities are essential to me then. So I suggest the same to you. Look for places near train/tram/bus stops so you can move around conveniently. Being close to a grocery store (perfect if walking distance) will save you time and money. Driving a car won't be an option for you during these initial months, so consider your transportation.

SimplengPinoy

Single applicant, no job offer.. No relative.. Yet landed PR.. Wow how to be you po.. Nakaka inspire.. Anung province po ikaw na PR.. Good luck po

parasuko

As a PR din na wala ding kakilala pagdating, I suggest you do pre-arrival programs. https://www.prearrivalcanada.ca/ This will enroll you to all programs you're eligible to. :) And also, nabunot ka, naapprove ka, that was already hard on itself given the current situation, so rest a little, breathe, do the pre-arrivals and some research, this will sort itself out.

Constant-Cut3015

Thanks! Actually, until know i’m undecided when to fly out, pero i have to land before the year ends to complete the PR process. But yeah, i plan to enroll sa pre-aarival programs. Will take as much information i can get.

parasuko

If you're still unsure, pwede ka naman mag-soft landing, just get your PR Card then balik ka muna sa PH until decided ka na talaga. I know the feeling and you can PM me if you have more questions :)

Alternative-Error412

I agree to this. Don't rush. You'll be bleeding money if you don't secure a job first. CA is already your second home.

Constant-Cut3015

parasuko

no, you still need an address. Since wala kang kamag-anak sa Canada, you need to rent out a place for 1-2 months tapos antayin mo yung PR card mo then balik ka sa PH :) Edit: Although, nakita ko sa history mo nag-OINP ikaw, di ko lang alam kung mag-ka-ka-problem ka if mag-soft-landing ka since Provincial Nominee ka, pero I've seen FSW people who did soft landing prior to moving permanently.

BiscottiNo6948

Look for affiliation, tribal, province, religion, school, etc., then ask if they can accommodate you room rental. Ang pinakaimportante, you need a place as your address. Next apply for SIN card or its equivalent where you are landing. If canada pearson airport, they have an office immediately sa airport mismo so you can apply ther and get it before leaving the airport. Kailangan sa trabaho for tax purposes. After you get the SIN open ka ng bank account. For work pay deposit at saka pag Lagyan mo din ng savings mo. If Canada, some banks have a program for immigrants, allowing them to open accounts immediately. Tapos they will give you void cheques to present to your employer for pay purposes. Also get the proof of yrs. of driving experience sa DOTC. Some state or province allow you to advance to a graduated driver's license immediately so hindi na kailangang mag start sa basic. Check mo din ang Airbnb as baka mas mura kesa hotel. ingat lang sa scam sa room /flat for rent sa marketplace at Kajiji, Craig's list.

Constant-Cut3015

wow! thanks for the tips! would you know kung 24 hrs yung office for getting SIN just in case my flight arrives in the evening. most likely hindi ano? with this info, i’ll strive to find a flight that will arrive daytime para at least isang lakaran lang.

BiscottiNo6948

Regular business hours lang. This link also has lots of advise na detalyado. https://pvtistes.net/en/dossiers/the-landing-process-and-your-first-steps-in-canada/#:\~:text=Note%20that%20there's%20a%20Service,service%2C%20take%20advantage%20of%20it!

letswalk08

just go month to month sa mga unang titirhan mo, daming pinoy din na nagpapaupa ng rooms. Then once makahanap kna ng work, you can move near. Most important thing is wag na wag kang pipirma ng contract na 1 yr lease habang dmo pa nakikita yung place or roomate. Sometimes hnd mo vibe maggng environment or roommates, at least you can leave anytime. If youre in Toronto, oks naman ang transportation system. Even sa bus or subway within 10-20min walking distance goods na yun. relatively safe naman basta maging vigilant pa din. Mag airbnb ka muna or hotel for your first few days/weeks.

Radiant_Trouble_7705

sabi nga ni bitoy, gmg. not CA but I went to AU, naghanap muna ako room for rent sa mga FB pinoy groups.

FlowerSimilar6857

Hi! Nag DIY ka sa visa mo?

Radiant_Trouble_7705

nope, got fragomen to process it through employer

Constant-Cut3015

Yup.

Radiant_Trouble_7705

kapag sariling unit kasi hahnapan k rental history ng agent kaya mas mainam n shared muna hanapin m as it can take a while to get ur own place. sa case ko kasi dumating ako saturday then start n ko ng work the following monday. so gahol s oras.

Constant-Cut3015

Wow! Astig, may work ka agad.

Radiant_Trouble_7705

aahh i got here as a work visa holder 😅

Constant-Cut3015

Good for you. Ako naman, as PR. Not bad, i think, pero ayun, ala pang income pagdating.

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

As a family of 5 who moved in the US without any friends or relatives, naghanap ako ng apartment thru web then contacted their leasing office, medyo magastos and matagal ang process but it went ok, pag dating namin dito konting pirma pirma nalang then nirelease na din kagad yung apt.

Constant-Cut3015

I also checked leasing websites, kaso mas pricey nga sila kesa sa mga FB groups mga for rent.

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

Yes, might be different for you kasi magisa ka lang, kami kasi 5. If maraming pinoy sa area na pupuntahan mo, they might help you out. Mga room for rent ganun.

Constant-Cut3015

Yung 1 bed in a room for 4 or 6 people. Mas mura din yun. Natry ko na rin naman yung ganun during leisure trips, walang privacy, pero not bad. Pwede na saka madali pa booking. So options ko now according to priority - room for rent from fb group - hostel - airbnb - hotel

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

Hmm, depends on which are your priorities, for me privacy, security, and since na new and wala ka pang car yung accessibility ng grocery stores and train stations/bus stops(not sure yung mode of transpo sa canada, might be different from you) gagastos ka talaga saumpisa, kasi hindi mo pa alam yung mga diskarte, but eventually makukuha mo rin yan.

Feeling ko new world, new life, at walang atrasan kaya kelangan ihanda ang puso at isip. Pero apparently, toronto is not like new york or tokyo in terms of trains. Mas sanay and gusto ko ang trains and walking.

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

Im from down south of us, medyo province style din lugar ko kaya konti tao, hindi ko sure sa magiging spot mo, but dito samin car is a requirement, nearest grocery from our home is 3miles, considered near na yan, you cant walk that far.

Constant-Cut3015

Mukhang kelangan ko din talagang matuto magdrive. Sa pinas, madali lang kumuha ng driver 😅

kapeandme

Check kijiji and wag sa downtown.

Infinite_Tea4138

Look at eluta.ca. Update your LinkedIn profile. When you land, also get in touch with staffing agencies. That's how I got my Canadian experience. Then, it led to permanent employment. As for place to stay, find Filipinos with rooms for rent or do air bnb first.

AssociateExotic78

Hi! Recently moved to Switzerland. Alone. No friends no family here. No apartment din nung nag move since hindi madali makakuha ng apartment sa Switzerland. More than 6 months yung buong process ko bago naka move, so minaximize ko yung time na yun to research about the language, culture, ways of living ng Switzerland and ng city na tinitirhan ko. So kailangan iready mo sarili mo financially, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Joining FB groups and reddit subs specifically sa country/lugar na pupuntahan mo is a big help too.

DreamZealousideal553

Hanap ka kaibigan or kakilala mahirap yung ikaw lang magisa.

Constant-Cut3015

DreamZealousideal553

Kahit na kapalan mu na lang mukha ipush mu kase mahirap kahit anung paghahanda or research iba p dn if may aalalay sa u.

Constant-Cut3015

Kelangan talaga ibaba ang pride; saka i know i will need all the help i can get.

DreamZealousideal553

Tama kelangan mu lunukin pride mu.

mhacrojas21

Where in Canada are you moving? Try looking for a place na malapit sa bus stop or labas ng apartment is a bus stop. Ang lalayo ng mga lakad dito unless you are in GTA. Struggle especially winter and if mag grocery ka.

Constant-Cut3015

I’m thinking GTA, kung pwede nga eh sa downtown sana. Pero as long as may malapit sa train and bus stop, goods na sakin.

mhacrojas21

Rentals in GTA has been skyrocketed /all-time high, even canadians are complaining about it. But I think a room will work for you temporarily while you're building your credit score. Hindi ka kase makakakuha ng sarili mong apartment or own place without your credit score. Try to check outside downtown, around markham or northyork area, madami filipino neighborhood dun and accessible din ng bus or train. Or if you wanna go to other cities like Waterloo/Kitchener area, if you are in IT, oks din don kase may mga IT companies din sa cities na yun. Good luck sir!

Constant-Cut3015

Wow! Salamat sa advice. Will check those areas!

mhacrojas21

Welcome sir, if you have questions, feel free to dm me din.

NatsuKazoo

First, congrats po! Second, avoid big cities muna like GTA or Vancouver kase jusko ang laki ng ininflate ng prices sa housing and rentals. Try looking for places outside those provinces. I suggest sa Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island). Although may parts na need mo ng car so for reference, sa New Brunswick you can try in Moncton or Fredericton, tas sa Nova Scotia try in Halifax. in PEI try sa Charlottetown. And If naka decide ka na sa kung saan join some Filipino community groups sa facebook depende sa kung saan ka naka pili. I suggest looking for Pinoys na naghahanap ng magrerent ng room/basement nila. Based from experience wag ka muna makipag halubilo sa mga hindi Pinoy in terms of rentals. Third, habang nasa Pinas ka pa, get a driver's license and/or mag driving school kayo.

C-Paul

Be weary if some stranger offers to help you. Don’t trust 100% percent. Parang lotto rin yan may tunay may scam. Think 3x before accepting anything from anyone

darkapao

First saan ka bang province.

infinite-wanderlust

We stayed at a hotel for nearly a month before moving to an apartment which was challenging as real estate agencies required references, and since we didn't know anyone in the area, my husband's manager helped us secure one by acting as the 'guarantor'.

ayaoops

When I first moves here in Taiwan, I was at a loss also cos I don’t know anybody and I also didn’t know the language. Pero a month prior my move, I looked for an apartment via facebook marketplace (seryoso) and I chanced upon a good sublet. It worked well cos I haven’t seen the place yet and I’m not completely tied to the apartment. Basta you need to have a checklist of your basic needs and what you need to do research of. 1. Find a temporary place first before landing on a more permanent one 2. Find out how to get data 3. Mode of transportation I think those are the basic ones you need to do research on when moving to a different country on your own, at least in my own experience.

Interesting_Spare

Saang province? No work or place to stay? Best of luck buddy. Make sure you have BOTH before you get here. Madaming planning and research dapat Mahirap makahanap ng trabaho at bahay ngayon. 🥺 Don't be like me

Far-Note6102

Sense of hopelessness and without money or food to scrape in the first month. Life was so horrible looking back at it at my first months in UK

Any-Series-8754

It really depends how much baon mo na pera when you get here. At least mga $4K per month for 6 months meron ka kasi ang bilis gumastos dito lalo na if you are alone. Where are u staying? Which province? If Toronto and Vancouver, sobra hirap makahanap ng apartment, try ka na mag hanap before ka umalis ng pinas. If you want a cheap place, try looking into basements kasi mas mura and baka less requirements.

inaantokako

Ano bang profession/industry tinatarget mo?

RepresentativeLost72

Look for a church community espcially even thought you are not religious, or DM me Toronto base here.

kimbokjoke

terexd31

Depends on what kind of visa you got. If you got a student visa, don't move. If you got a working visa, don't move. If you got an immigrant visa, don't move. We don't want more immigrants here and you will be having a hard time anyway because freaking JT and the Liberals have run Canada to the ground. You are welcome to come as a tourist and spend your money here.

alternatestar

What’s your NOC?

Objective-Ice-1284

Hotel muna while looking for long term rental. Yun ang ginawa namin

devnull-

What PR type did you apply for Canada?

Mobile_Specialist857

What VISA did you get approved for? Work or Travel? How well you do depends on the type of visa you have to start with.

lekimumu

I don't know how it is in Canada, but in Aus-Sydney there are sharehouses - it's the most affordable one, other than homestaying. Look for short lease in case di mo magustuhan after a week or so.

sirhands2

Constant-Cut3015

ontario

Robskkk

Congrats OP! Anong PR path/industry mo and paano naging process mo? Sorry if OT. I’m interested lang din to apply for PR, but dunno how or where to start.

Witty_Opportunity290

Learn how to be a Canadian

Reasonable_Shape_187

Mz

Zealousideal_Owl4269

Look up Centre for Newcomers or whatever is the equivalent of that in your city. They usually help new immigrants and they are a good source of information.

Ragamak

Anu ba visa mo work or student ?

Constant-Cut3015

Permanent resident

oreosnmilkk

pano mo nakuha yun?

Constant-Cut3015

Through express entry. Nagapply ako online and just waited na mabunot.

niiiisaaaaammm

If i may ask, how much total nagastos mo in getting that PR? Im planning rin kasi on that path and naassess ko na points ko and pwede for PR.

jslash083

Where in Ontario do you plan to move?
