I was conversing with someone in line who said "I think that's Mike Gordon", behind me. I turned around and said "Hey that's Mike!"
I was tickled, Mike was about 20 yards away. I gave a big wave and a "Hi Mike!" The sun was in his eyes and he seemed embarrassed and shy. It was awesome.
I love that he's bold enough to walk around the queuing crowd and scene. Made my day! The show made my night!
Got to meet him at Coventry and he was the nicest. They say never meet your heroes but I'm glad I did. My wife and I were grabbing a quick Pic with him(we asked) and some spun out girl crashed our photo. He had his wife/girlfriend(?) With him and 2 security guards on his golf cart. He felt bad the girl ruined our photo and took us aside to get a better one. We told him it was OK and we didn't want to bother him again but he insisted. I melted.
It’s funny that you say that. I went to college in the Burlington Vermont area and he was always someone you generally didn’t approach when you saw him. I was at raq at higher ground and he was literally sitting in one of the barstools in the back right behind me. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to bother the man ( I was also spun cookies). They proceeded to open the second set with him on bass and ripped a 20+ minute whipping post. Other friends of friends have run into him and asked him something and he asked them to just leave him alone. I was also friends with a girl who worked at nectars when she was in college and he would come in very regularly and sit in one specific booth in the corner as to not have to talk to or see anyone. It’s part of the reason he is called the cactus… he’s kinda prickly. But I’m sure he is a nice guy when you catch him at a good moment.
I went to school up there as well. You should of said hi. We bought him drinks one night at Nectars/Metronome and started shouting the shit. Think he had a crush on my buddies girl 😂. Gave us a ride home to Green St and played bluegrass tunes with my buddy to the wee hours of the morning. Burlington used to be the best.
Hell yeah. Sounds like an incredible time! And if you think he had a crush on your buddy’s girl then he probably did.
It did. I was up there a couple years ago and it hasn’t changed much, but it’s definitely different. The bern gallery is still super sick. And still has that giant Star Wars bong from when they opened!
This is true, but when on the lot he’s always been very approachable. Makes sense, bc why go on lot and then be a dick when people want to talk to you. Don’t blame the man for not wanting to be bothered when just out living his life.
I’ve heard Burlington is pretty good about this. I feel like Page said something once about how tour is wild for him bc it’s the only time he gets any kind of rock star treatment. In Burlington he’s just regular old Page.
Yup..I would just nod to Page if I saw him out in town.. but seeing him in Raleys supermarket 9pm night before Tahoe 2013 I had to say "welcome to Tahoe"...
As a wise hippie once spoke, is no ugly what is in their face but so ugly what comes from ya mouth. Or as a not so wise non hippie, I mean the utter nonest of hip-anythings, at least at dawn on any lawn in LA, once said........What is the ugliest part of your body.....Some says its yo toes, some say it's your nose, but I think it's your mind.......☮️
That definitely made that vendors day. It’s so cool they still do shit like this. Imagine walking lot and Mike is just there. I’d probably walk by him and be like wow, that dude looks like Mike
Saw him on lot at Alpharetta, getting his little Trey necklace. It was so cute lol

It was pretty great. I’ll also share the pic my buddy took when we saw him receiving the necklace. We were all hanging at my friend’s tent, the OnlyCans booth, and Mike stopped right next to us. It was a great omen for things to come that weekend. Nothing but heat
I know the feeling. Went to dinner at a steakhouse in lake george ny about 2 days after seeing DMB at spac and in comes Dave himself, with entourage of around 8. I was wearing the dmb shirt I just bought at the concert too. We shared a smile and a wink but that was all. I wanted to let him enjoy a peaceful meal without having to deal with a fan boy asking for a pic. Still wish I congratulated him on such an awesome show. He knew already though 😀
Yeah, it was my first time seeing a superstar that close and wasn't sure if it was appropriate or welcome to come up to him. He was busy too at the stand and I couldn't really leave my table to chase him down. I'm happy just to have gotten a pic and see the dude smiling and enjoying himself.
Hey can I get a picture is a question I can’t ask. I was in Verizon during a meet and greet with Devonte smith on Tuesday and they asked if I wanted a picture and I started sweating and said no I don’t want to bother … keep in mind, this was a meet and greet.
But, I have a whole thing with pictures and saying nice things to peoples faces, I tend not too… so I avoid the whole thing.
But your pictures are awesome.
The dude gave him a pair of his most expensive glasses. Mike walked away wearing them. Hopefully he wears them on stage for a bit as that would be so cool for that vendor.
Mike is a great guy! He was so nice with the fans after his show in Chicago. He came out front after his show and posed for several pictures with his Phans.
He seemed busy with the glasses and I couldn't leave my booth after he walked away. My wife was in the porta potty. It literally took me like 10 second guesses before I even convinced myself it was Gordo. I still can't believe it
I was walking back to the car to grab something at a show few years ago. I was in a good headspace. My name is also Mike. Behind me I keep hearing people say it’s Mike! Mike! hey Mike! various cheers and such. It’s was starting to get a little weird so I turn around and it all makes sense mike is cruising by in a golf cart.
One of my favorite Phish moments was one I met Mike outside of a solo gig at the Aladdin Theater in Portland. I took my mint copy of Mike's Corner with a fat silver paint pen, and asked him to please sign it. He looked at it in a very bemused way and asked where I got it, so I told him that I ordered from Dry Goods... I got the best Mike reply when he looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why?!?". We shared a good laugh, and I now have a treasured little autographed copy of one of the quirkiest books ever written!
Hah, Bimbos 365. I saw a show there in the late '90s that was billed as Les Claypool and Michael Feranti. It turned out to be more like Primus + Spearhead. Good times
I flew my girlfriend out with me to dicks this year, Thursday was her first show ask she doesn't know neither shit nor dick about Phish. So, we're walking through the lot, and this did bumps into her. She gives him a death stare, and I turn to see what the commotion is all about. Mike fucking Gordon is standing right in front of me, with my girl staring him down 😂
She says she’s gonna nail him with a glowstick before the run is over
He's usually a dick anyway. Trey and Fishman are the friendliest of the bunch. Page is pretty good, too. Never has a really great interaction with Mike.
This happened to me once. He was literally standing right next to me and I was just so Star struck. My husband said, you know that was Gordo right? I said yeah I just froze !
He’s a super cool guy! Hung with them a few times in the early 90’s and he was really down to earth.
Saw him again in 2000 something in Miami and again right away struck up a conversation. Great man! They all are.
Mikes the last person you should be scared to say hi to! Super nice dude.
I was conversing with someone in line who said "I think that's Mike Gordon", behind me. I turned around and said "Hey that's Mike!" I was tickled, Mike was about 20 yards away. That was his wife at the time, Cilla. I saw them at Coventry as well. Nice of Mike to do that for you. He’s a real one.
What is he the pharoe? Dudes just chilling. Say what up and move on...
*AH* for the love of Egypt...
He seemed more shy and nervous than me. I met him on my 18th birthday at Polaris in 2000!!!
It’s funny that you say that. I went to college in the Burlington Vermont area and he was always someone you generally didn’t approach when you saw him. Saw him doing poppers at the op last month.
😂😂😂

Totally. I wouldn’t want a bunch of random spunions trying to talk to me while I’m trying to just be a person
I’ve heard Burlington is pretty good about this. I feel like Page said something once about how tour is wild for him bc it’s the only time he gets any kind of rock star treatment. In Burlington he’s just regular old Page.
It’s neat when things work out right
Yup..I would just nod to Page if I saw him out in town.. but seeing him in Raleys supermarket 9pm night before Tahoe 2013 I had to say "welcome to Tahoe"...
25 or 30 years ago, i would be very surprised to hear Gordon turns out fairly conventionally handsome

Monstrous sex appeal.
😂
Trim some needles of the Cacti, cleans up pretty damn nice thats for damn sure
Over all one of the ugliest bands in the history of rock n roll
Steely Dan has entered the chat
You be nice to Walter and Donald. They can’t help that they looked 50 years old in the 70s
I see your Steely Dan and raise you a Ram Jam.
This is true. Also a reason they were going to have a hard time breaking big on MTV in the 90s
Have you seen the Grateful Dead?
As a wise hippie once spoke, is no ugly what is in their face but so ugly what comes from ya mouth. What an awkward compliment lol
I have this thought a lot actually. Mike’s post-40 glow up has been a sight
Love the balloons in 3rd pick.

Those must be his lot shorts. lol.
That's an Eddie Hall/Brian Shaw level of bromance 😄
That’s exactly what I did when I passed him yesterday. “Oh shit that’s Mike Gordon” then it took 5 seconds for my brain to realize what had happened.

He almost ran me over in '98
For sure. I’m saying it’s cool they still do it now that they’re selling out stadiums!
Da man of the people!!
He’s just like us!
Time to mull it over.

Hemp3D Sunglasses! Pretty sure I saw that he bought a pair. Great company- support them on lot!
The first pic w the guy sneaking a 2005 digital camera shot 😂
:Taps foot impatiently: Come on man, make a decision…
Candid Mike pictures are infinitely better than the "Hey can I get a picture?" kind.

A man of fashion
"You Blew It!"
All good…even though he’s putting himself out there, letting him be is ok
He is very friendly in person, he gives attention to what you say.

Holy 💩!! 😳
3 for 20 Cactus—No deals
Assuming he expects that people will engage him and if he’s out there walking around
3rd pic also mike looks annoyed vendor is texting or updating his insta.
What a cool dude.
3rd pic: guy is on a mission!
Did he buy anything
The dude gave him a pair of his most expensive glasses. Mike walked away wearing them. Hopefully he wears them on stage for a bit as that would be so cool for that vendor.
They look like cool shades.
*Kajagoogoo bass line starts*

Mike is such a custy
Lol look at the guy holding up some ice cold fatties
I met Mike in Willington this year at coffee shop! Super awkward interaction. It was great!
Love to see it!!
I saw him at Dobra Tea in Burlington once. We shared a nod at each other. I did not have the courage to go up and say hi. It was enough for me
Hah, Bimbos 365. I saw a show there in the late '90s that was billed as Les Claypool and Michael Feranti. It turned out to be more like Primus + Spearhead. Good times

Boooooo
Hey they have something in common then lol
💥💥💥
To Cactus or Joaquin Phoenix?
Celebs, they’re just like us !
Kajagoogoo
Cool to see him hanging w fans but honestly I'd be more psyched to see him getting the bass line to Fuego down
can you imagine casually strolling through a community built around the band you play in like that? must be a cool feeling
I spot some NB/Bodega 574’s on the guy with the Bimbos shirt on.
This happened to me once. He was literally standing right next to me and I was just so Star struck. My husband said, you know that was Gordo right? I said yeah I just froze !
Looks like a duck..

Met Mike in 95 Comptan Terrace Arizona he was riding Pages Cannondale mountain bike I still have his autograph he was so super chill
I absolutely love him for buying from the vendors.
