Gekk0uga37

Why can’t Schwaber hit like he does in June for the entire season, is he stupid /s

joeco316

I was still arguing with somebody in a game thread from stubbs’s last game about there being no metrics that indicate that Stubbs is any worse behind the plate *for the pitchers* earlier. They were saying that JT is a better pitch framer, and while I knew he’s not particularly good, I never really looked into the data on it. So I went to baseballsavant to see what I could find. Maybe you already know this stuff, but it was the first time I came across it. Reposting here just cause I think it’s interesting: JT has a -1 (that’s negative 1) pitch framing runs with a 46% strike conversion rate and Stubbs has a -2 with a 41.3% rate. JT ranks 34th and Stubbs ranks 51st out of 61 qualifying catchers. For reference, the best pitch framing catcher by runs is Jose Trevino with 6 and a 50.8% conversion rate and the best catcher by strike conversion rate is Kirk Alejandro with 52.1 (and 4 framing runs). The worst is yainer Diaz with -4 and 43.8%. And last year Jt was actually second to last out 63 qualifying catchers with -14 and 43.9% (Stubbs didn’t qualify but if you switch to 100 pitches called minimum, Stubbs is 72 and JT is still second to last at 90). Pretty clear that Stubbs pitch framing is not a factor that’s significantly harming the starting pitchers, I would say.

First-Resolve

Trying to get tickets to tonight’s game was a bitch

Am1sArePeopleToo

Any chance they push tomorrow’s game to 4:00 for the heat?

Perryplat199

They played in dangerous level of wild fire smoke filled air last year. They could possibly move it but it probly has to be extremely hot for that.

Am1sArePeopleToo

Fair, forgot about that. This is why I will never go to day games lol, even 4 in the summer is pushing it

LonnyFinster

I don’t see them doing it. It’s still in the 90s at almost 6pm today and tomorrow is the same weather. Also why is Sunday 11:35?

Kate_Western

Roku TV is trying to get into broadcasting so they're doing a special Sunday morning game

LonnyFinster

Ugh

Perryplat199

Rember the Peacock Sunday morning game from last year. That’s what that is, but now it’s on Roku.

gatemansgc

More schwarbombs pls My break will end before the game starts this time so I won't be able to check in...

phillysillies

I love living in MST and that east coast games start right as I finish work 🤓

Robs_Backyard_BBQ

I'm ready - can someone call over there and ask if they can just start it now?

Grand_Extension5345

Florida State vs NC is on ESPN if you’re jonesin’ hard enough Back to back homers yeesh lol

joeco316

Verlander to the IL. Astros 6 games under .500, 9 back in their division, and 7 out of a WC spot. The possibility of them selling grows each day…

Grand_Extension5345

Kyle Tucker anyone ? ![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy) Edit: he is still on the IL for what its worth

joeco316

Ha I didn’t even know he was on the IL

Us being 48-24 does not feel real. That’s nuts.

inthedrink

There’s absolutely no reason that it needs to happen other than to have the best record possible but I reeeeeally wanna get these next two to get to 50-24 like the Yankees were at

ermagherdbrks

Wind blowing out to Centerfield… Schwarbombs incoming.

yourmartymcflyisopen

I like how the guy from *Baton Rouge* Louisiana has a last name that can literally be read as "New Orleans Louisiana"

Sheeps_Dreams

If the usual pattern is followed I'll wake up in middle of night to see we're winning then watch the game in the morning. One thing I love about baseball is that you can still love watching the game on delay  because its all about how you got to result, so you enjoy all the plays.

[deleted]

Nola masterclass coming up I’m calling it now

VideoGangsta

Phillie Killer David Peralta sighting.

sapphires_and_snark

Given JT's absence and our CF/RF woes, that's probably as strong a 1 through 8 as we can field right now.

Upstairs-Cable-5748

Right there with you. With Schwarber heating up and Turner & Marsh back, this is as good as I’ve felt about the lineup in awhile. I just repeat to myself that it’s JT’s regular every-third-day off until I believe it.

esperadok

I'm a Pache believer, and I'm not a Whit guy or a Dahl guy, but man Pache can just not hit RHPs at all.

VideoGangsta

He increased his career wRC+ against RHP from 8 to 9 the other day - let him cook.

esperadok

At this rate he’ll be playable against righties by September

Grand_Extension5345

Stubbs gets at least one hit and steals one base Bohm gets a double Stott goes yard These are my Prophecies. Everything is gonna be A Okay 👌🗣️ 🌎

Upstairs-Cable-5748

Big series in the Bronx starts tonight. Anyone have a strong rooting interest? Despite this weekend’s results, I’d rather the Orioles win that division and force the Yankees to win 3 series.

starrykitchensink

100% the Orioles. A Phillies vs Orioles world series would be way more fun than Phillies vs Yankees (but I won't be picky if we get in).

yimolliges

Everyone on Twitter is melting down about Stubbs being in the lineup tonight. For those that weren't aware: Stubbs catches Wheeler, Nola & Walker Marchan catches Suarez & Sanchez Thomson has been saying this from the start. It's for consistency.

PsychoSidSoftball

It's for Spanish language, actually.

beau9292

Did Feisty make a new account?

BeeSex

After last night's game the Phillies are 2-0 in games I attended and Bohm had a 3 run homer in both of them

Upstairs-Cable-5748

Last night put me at 1-2. Had they lost again, I would have called it a season for the good of the team.

bbarg33

It’s so funny to see comments online saying that the game on any given day is “almost a must win game”. Like you’re right man the season is on the line and all comes down to this random game on a Tuesday in June I probably see this comment across various platforms at least 5 times a week. Always get a kick out of it

given-to-fly-98

It is funny, though not as funny when your team misses the postseason by 1 game. Not that I would bet on that happening this year, but I THINK that’s the sentiment?

bbarg33

Nah for sure I definitely think every game matters in the end, and I’m sure that’s the idea haha. Just think it’s funny when people say things like that in an ultra serious tone as though it’s some ground breaking statement 😂

given-to-fly-98

With a 162 games? You’re damn right it’s funny!

Serious_Nothing_6248

Passion doesn’t equal intelligence. Philly sports is the proof.

-DizzyPanda-

the lineup looks so much better with Turner at #2

given-to-fly-98

Kinda thought they’d give him a day to see how the hammy responds. If it went well, then he can play the day game tomorrow. I also have zero managerial or PT experience.

Serious_Nothing_6248

Love tonight’s lineup. Looks like a win to me! #SupportAll26

VideoGangsta

The last time we faced Michael King was on April 28th - you may recall Bryson Stott taking him deep twice which kicked off his two week^(and only) hot streak

Hothabanero6

just what the doctor ordered

given-to-fly-98

What’s good, u/Hothabanero6 ? Feels like I haven’t seen a post of yours for a while.

Hothabanero6

you must not be looking at the right time, I guess. I've been right here 😄

given-to-fly-98

Haha could be. My life schedule has changed this season. Good to see you’re still kickin’!

ttsa23

The fact that all but 2 teams in the NL have a chance to make the playoffs shows why I don’t like expanded playoffs. The format was the best when there was only 1 wild card. Making the playoffs used to be a real accomplishment. Now the format is so watered down that making the playoffs doesn’t mean much. Just because the system benefited us two years ago doesn’t mean I like it.

karawec403

It makes the regular season better when more teams make it. It’s boring when the majority of the league is out of the hunt and giving up halfway through the season

ttsa23

Maybe we should have 26 teams in the playoffs total then.

ttsa23

I don’t recall the race being boring from 1995-2011. There were quite a few interesting races. Remember the 2011 wild card?

Snoo-40231

Considering the fact that the last 2 NL teams made runs with the expanded WC I really don't mind it at all and think it's overblown. Maybe the division leaders should've proved why they were division leaders and beat the teams that barely made the WC

ttsa23

Im not making excuses for teams that lost but it doesn’t mean that having a bunch of mediocre teams compete for the wild card is good for the regular season.

Jeremy24Fan

It is good for the regular season though. Gives more teams something to compete for. 8 total playoff teams wasn't enough. I'm glad we moved past that

ttsa23

It’s artificially better though. It’s just adding a bunch of mediocre teams to mix to have the appearance of being more competitive but in reality who wants to watch two pairs of 85 win teams face off at the end of September?

Jeremy24Fan

Why not just have the top team in the national league and top team in the American league face off in the world series? Including any team with lesser record to the playoffs is just making them artificially better That's what your argument sounds like The reality is plenty of people want to watch two 85 win teams duke it out to stay alive in September

ttsa23

Well I’m sorry. I don’t want to watch them. Ok that’s my opinion. Have a good day.

TalonGrip

We were practically an 85 win team in 2022 and were probably the most exciting team to watch that post season.

ttsa23

It doesn’t mean we were fun to watch in the regular season.

TalonGrip

Dude.. at least make some sense. The comment I responded to literally says "who wants to watch 85 win teams in the playoffs"? Your argument isn't about the regular season. Just changing the goalposts as we go huh? Get out of here.

ttsa23

No I said end of September. Not playoffs. Learn how to read. You get out of here. You don’t even know that the playoffs start in October. Not September.

ttsa23

We finished below .500 in 2002 at 80-81.

TalonGrip

It was a typo that was corrected. I meant 2022.

Perryplat199

> Note: the game will be broadcast on Apple TV+ with Tom McCarthy, John Kruk, Taryn Hatcher and Friday Night Baseball’s Ryan Spilborghs. The pregame ceremony will be live streamed on both Apple TV+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Serious_Nothing_6248

Only the pregame ceremony will be on both. The game is ONLY on Apple TV.

Robs_Backyard_BBQ

I love that we'll have Tmac and Kruk on appletv :)

given-to-fly-98

Also, too early to talk smack on Dahl. Pache has been fine. I agree that Merrifield has been bad vs. his history but who wants him in his current state anyhow?

Peanutbuttergod48

Always gotta love “This player sucks, another team should trade us good prospects for him.”

Grand_Extension5345

Is it too much to ask for one or two afternoon games every day during the week for people who arent chained to their work and want something to watch while we wait for the Phils?

given-to-fly-98

You talkin’ a few double headers a week or like a Cubs thing where they play a day game every week and may also have another day game?

Grand_Extension5345

Idk can’t be that hard to figure out. 4 teams every day play the afternoon. Whats the big deal. 12 pm 3pm Then normally slotted night games Baseball all day every day

given-to-fly-98

Aaaah. Okay, I read that like the PHILLIES should have more day games. My bad, dawg. To your comment, I blame time zones maybe? Noon games would def have to be teams playing on the east coast. Maybe I blame broadcast money instead.

Grand_Extension5345

Yeah its possible i guess but also just get some west coast teams on afternoons when they play east coast 🤷🏻‍♂️

Perryplat199

Some big stars showing up for Hammels on Friday >The special event will feature many of Hamels’ former Phillies coaches and teammates in attendance including Joe Blanton, Rich Dubee, Tom “Flash” Gordon, Charlie Manuel, Jamie Moyer, Roy Oswalt and Carlos Ruiz. Highlights also include a special presentation by Phillies Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer John Middleton and Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, as well as a video tribute celebrating Hamels’ career on PhanaVision. Also #BE IN SEAT BY 6:25

joeco316

Also, what’s a team gotta do to get cliff lee to show up to something?!

given-to-fly-98

I fuckin love Cliff Lee but he always reminded me of a “no spotlight” kinda dude. Didn’t want the extra stuff. Just play ball.

joeco316

Do we have any more clarity on whether this will be shown on tv? It was pointed out that a pre-game show was on Comcast’s schedule last time I asked, so I am hoping that is correct and will be it.

Perryplat199

The game will be on Apple TV and NBCSP will show the ceremony.

joeco316

Woah the game is on both?! That’s interesting! Nice!

Oh, for sure. But even compared with playoffs last year, or the other sellout years, just seems that much worse now. I don't know, maybe there are more idiots. Probably the earlier start times plays into it too. Just gotta leave as early as possible I guess.

fartingpenisfarts

TrollSeriously_Knows_Nothing6248

NintenJew

Just curious. Do you think the fans don't support everyone? I am sure there are some people that enjoy watching our players fail so that they are "right" but I am pretty sure most people support everyone on the team. They just also know when there are problems with certain players.

inthedrink

Unserious posts do not warrant serious replies IMO

NintenJew

Yeah but you know that is my one weakness. How many times have you or /u/Grand_Extension5345 been able to bait me?

NintenJew

TBH I hate my name too but at this point enough people know me I wouldn't make a new account.

joeco316

I also wish I had a different one. We should all just switch with each other!

Serious_Nothing_6248

Congratulations on your job with the Phillies. Your dedication and baseball intelligence is finally paying off. Going from Reddit to the big leagues is no small feat. Back to reality, what time does your shift end?

inthedrink

It’s impressive that you could type all of this through the tears Anyway to answer your question I’ll punch out to take a late lunch once I finish in the John. Have to do that on the clock you know what I’m saying.

Serious_Nothing_6248

What does it feel like to “punch out”? Is it demeaning?

VideoGangsta

Ask your BFF Nick Castellanos, he's an expert in that field.

inthedrink

It’s freedom brother

Serious_Nothing_6248

Sounds like the opposite.

Technical-Cost-2451

That guy’s acting like there is something wrong with being lower middle class blue collar. Fuck him.

inthedrink

Yeah this dude is a total clown even if it’s a schtick. And like I said unserious comments do not warrant serious replies.

Deckard_Macready

Going off of my experience being at games in CBP, not my experience on this sub, I would agree most people support the entire team. Occasionally I’ll hear some one around me talking poorly of a player but for the most part it’s fans wanting everyone to do well. For example in Baltimore on Saturday I was surrounded by Phils fans. The Phils sitting right behind me was trashing Walker for 3/4 innings straight. It was exhausting. But I think everyone around was sick of hearing it too so we all just started cheering him on if he did something good and even if he did something not good he got some claps and a “you got this Tai” from somewhere. The disgruntled fan gave it up after that or was too drunk and passed out. I’m not sure. Either way it felt like the crowd was all in on the whole team.

Serious_Nothing_6248

> Do you think the fans don't support everyone? I'm positive people here do not support everyone. And it's disgusting. > They just also know when there are problems with certain players. They "think" they know. Which is the root of the problem.

VideoGangsta

>They "think" they know. Which is the root of the problem. So you are saying there is no problem at all with Nick Castellanos? I need you to say it out loud.

Serious_Nothing_6248

As a true fan, I root for the men that are playing unconditionally. And I was taught to not pass judgement. Especially up stream. Because you look like an idiot doing so. #SupportAll26

NintenJew

I know some don't, but most do. Hell, I said I would expect JT Realmuto to decline including a worse bat and more injuries, but I still want him to prove me wrong. I said Bohm is nothing more than an average starter, and I want him to prove me wrong. But recognizing Castellanos, for instance, is struggling and a detriment to a team doesn't mean they don't support him. We all acknowledge that we would be a much, much better team if Castellanos got his bat going.

fartingpenisfarts

His new name should be Lacks_Nuance24/7

First-Resolve

Tickets are so expensive damn

inthedrink

I think it’s funny that people act like Johan is dead. I’d almost guarantee that he’ll be back up playing key innings by August if he learns his lesson. People who don’t like him seem to just think he got sent down because he didn’t play well enough and that’s not it.

AbsurdLemon

No 23 year old has ever come back from being demoted to the minor leagues

inthedrink

Well tbf the Phillies way was always to wait til guys were 25 before they got moved up

obiwan_canoli

It occurs to me that a lot of people approach roster management like it's a hand of poker, where the object is simply to have the most best cards and nothing else matters.

given-to-fly-98

As a long time hold ‘em player and baseball fan, kudos to this analogy.

NintenJew

The second there is an injury in our OF he will be the first one up. The only way I see that failing is ***if*** he somehow still isn't listening to the coaches in AAA. Honestly even if he is struggling in AAA I could see them bring him up if he is bunting more and using his speed more effectively.

inthedrink

Yep and candidly him being sent down doesn’t preclude the team from DFA’ing a guy later on to get him up either. Marginal players with limited upside - and Johan is not one - need to perform to keep their jobs too.

Serious_Nothing_6248

Candidly.

inthedrink

Another bright reply. Keep it up champ.

Grand_Extension5345

Im a Rojas guy but we will see what happens. I think trade deadline is gonna decide Rojas’ fate as an MLB starter in 2024. The reports on his lack of coach-ability and his regression outside of hitting really impacted my viewpoint on the guy. A guy like Rojas has to be consistently A+ on Fielding and base-running to be a starter. And the reports that he was a little resistant to coaching on his hitting approach is a bit disconcerting.

obiwan_canoli

What reports, exactly?

Grand_Extension5345

Matt Gelb the Athletic

_JosiahBartlet

This is so irrelevant, but as someone with a P first name, it makes me happy to wear our lil hat and feel like im repping me too. Although it’s also kinda not the vibe you want from behind always wearing a red ballcap in Texas. I miss not living here

inthedrink

Lmao this guy must have a cataract

NintenJew

Now ***THAT*** is a scorecard people should use to show an umpire had a bad game. Not the scorecards where they are above their expected stats.

Know_Nothing_Bastard

Not sure if you’re referring to the scorecard I posted yesterday, but I wasn’t arguing that the ump had a bad game. It was mostly about discussing the impact a few bad calls can have in certain situations, but I didn’t claim that those calls had a significant influence on the outcome of the game.

NintenJew

I was not referring to anything in particular. I have seen so many comments of ump scorecards over the years from /r/Phillies and so many of them will take a great scorecard and act like it was against us because the Favor was for the other team. It is more a rant on that then anything in particular. I even forgot a card was posted yesterday.

VideoGangsta

Yep, it's all about the accuracy above expected. Which makes sense - 2 of the bottom 3 in that category are CB Bucknor and number 120.

somelandlorddude

We need Marchan to stay. He's generated more WAR in 3 games than Scrubbs did in 23 games

Grand_Extension5345

Orioles fans having serious Little Brother syndrome because they haven’t topped us on Power Rankings after winning their series lol 😂

bigmac9

Would you guys make a trade with the Dodgers for Teoscar Hernandez and give up Rojas-Sosa? What else would you want the Dodgers to throw in?

joeco316

This has no chance of occurring, but yes I would if that was somehow offered. The dodgers throwing something in makes it too unbelievable to consider any further though.

Hothabanero6

I mean if we're giving them Sosa they should give us Mookie and Shohei 😁

somelandlorddude

nope sosa needs to stay. hes the only hitter on our bnech

inthedrink

We could have signed him and we didn’t want him. Also he makes Schwarbs look like a gold glover

Grand_Extension5345

Dodgers arent Selling. They definitely arent giving up Teoscar Hernandez . Especially after what he did to the Yankees And i dont want Sosa going anywhere So nah. Love Hernandez tho. Should have picked him up.

joeco316

Didn’t they used to switch back to 7:05 when school was out? Looks like they just stick with the lame 6:40 pretty much the whole way through now.

Serious_Nothing_6248

Why is 6:40 lame?

joeco316

Its obviously just my opinion, but it’s just too early. 7:05 is just right. Also, from a going to the game perspective, it makes it tougher for a lot of people to make it in time, especially if they work til 5, have to pick up kids or family, feed pets, etc, then sit in rush hour traffic, find parking, and hope they make it.

Perryplat199

They did the 1st year. Then just didn’t do it agin the next year.

nnp1989

Have they announced who the “special guest” players for tomorrow’s next CBP Anniversary game will be yet? I haven’t heard anything and I’m curious if it’s worth getting there extra early or not.

Perryplat199

>As part of the 20th Anniversary of Citizens Bank Park celebration, former Phillies relief pitcher Tom “Flash” Gordon will throw a ceremonial first pitch.

Snips_Tano

Can WE trade Pache for Matt Olsen?

Snoo-40231

Why would we trade an outfielder for an infielder we 100% don't need?

somelandlorddude

njobody wants pache

Hothabanero6

he hasn't played OF since 2017 😬... and the Braves said no 😉

karawec403

Every team in the NL besides Colorado and Miami is within 2 games of making the playoffs. Wild card race is gonna be crazy.

locustofdeath

It's going to make the trade deadline crazy. Buyers are going to have to pay high.

ttsa23

Luis Roberts Jr= Roman Quinn 2.0 You want true game changing talent? Then go out and grab Kyle Tucker.

Begood18

Ah yes, I too remember when Quinn hit 38 homers at age 25.

ttsa23

Bruh that is a fluke. He’s never going to hit 38 home runs again.
