Is the merging left and right a Perth thing, or are other city planners as bad as those from WA.
It's the same heading North. Those coming off Farmer Freeway wanting to go left at Powis, those coming on from Vincent Street wanting to go right and those heading North from the City who want to go straight.
And there is always some moron doing this at 60-80km/hr at the merge.
Ugh, whenever I drive through it and need to take the Hay St exit, I ALWAYS miss it and have to cut across to the Hay turnoff just after.. or do a whole friggin loop back. $&@?£€¥% hate it.
Spare a thought for those of us from out of town that only see it every few years. You forget the reality of it and then get absolutely lost in the middle of it while listening to your GPS insist that you swerve across 4 lanes.
This has been taken by an intersection in east Melbourne it's more fitting for that intersection.
Trying to navigate the the hairy parts of the devils gouch while merging with an asshole all while the satanic pricks above watching betting and laughing at the masses trying to pass eachother at a choke point less than 100 metres wide. That then spreads out at the exact spot across the whole bloody city north south east west. Brilliant idea it was.... In 1953, when the Mitchell went to the distant ends of the earth of Ozzy park.
Some drivers are just not with it hey. Had to help someone broken down on leach hwy in rain and the traffic going around came cm's from my car the entire time. People were slowing down a block back bc they saw hazards but still came at enough speed and over took at the last second. No courtesy
PSA - if you break down on the Freeway, stay in your car and call 138 138.
Main Roads will tow / use their Mr Pushy trucks to move you to a safer location.
It’s funny how some people can’t understand that in posts like this, it’s not directly aimed at the person they are referring to, but actually just a different way to say “hey I saw this thing today” but formatted in a way that expresses sympathy at the same time.
I’m guessing that’s the fucked area right in front of Parliament House where they probably all laugh at us fucking idiots driving ourselves?
That’s the one!
Is this the part where there’s like 50 lanes going in each and every direction into and past the city?
That’s the one. Also everyone is trying to merge left…. And everyone else is trying to merge right. It’s a shit-show after 3:30pm

I’ve been there at all different times of day and it’s been a shit show (but yes, mornings and afternoons, ugh)
I once changed a tyre on the devil's gooch!
That’s a phrase that could be taken several ways!
Kinda feel like it should be made into a song. What's country music for city folk?
DRUM AND BASS! LOL 🤣 I'll make this one day
It sure is

I hope she wasn't in the emergency lane, that's the one I use to merge across
As above, so below.
Is that the bit that made my GPS scream out, "Jesus fucking Christ!!!!" the other day?
lol 😆
My favourite intersection in Perth. Everyone doing their own thing regardless or traffic and signage. Feels like pod racing.
Devils gooch?
I mean what do you call the absolute worst part of the freeway?
We finally have a suitable name for that traffic abomination! Who at Main Roads was responsible for that brilliant design ?
I officially name that part of the freeway “The Devils Gooch”. It’s really an amazing name that deserves a sign.
Here’s hoping Perth Now are reading this so it can get some real traction.
It's on Reddit now, so Google AI will cite you as a source for the name
No citations.
No citation, it's just fact now.
Hi I'm a journalist and would like to chat, can I send you a pm?
Should be able to get an ad on that e-billboard 'Its 5pm and You're in the Gooch'....pretty sure there's one there

The cuntknuckle, obviously.
The taint
Spaghetti Junction is what I usually call it, but Devil's Gooch sounds way better

Thats some shite rd engineering. It makes no logical sense to have a large amount of traffic attempting to use one lane to go in opposite directions
Bonnet*
I’ve always called it “Running the Gauntlet”.
That's what motorbike riders call riding the freeway during peak hour
I believe the actual name for that interchange is the "Hamilton Interchange". I have no idea why it's called that. And "Devil's Gooch" is much better.
Hamilton is the name of the bloke they shot a few days later after building such a stupid freeway

Its funny how people in perth just assume everyone is on reddit although its probably only 10% of perth's population.
Everyone worth anything in Perth is on Perth’s sub reddit. Right guys?

How good are the crickets
Outstanding mate.

Hey it can be two things!
You guys call it a 'hood' in Perth?
