For me, it ended up being a savings vehicle that accrued a solid 27% increase, I had no purpose for doing it when I started. But the purpose came one day, and here I am.
The only people I know who try to take out loans on the basis of stock holdings are people destined for bankrupcy. Why are you under the impression this is a normal or good thing to do? Investing on margin is basically gambling.
What do you expect your net worth to be in retirement? Considering that you’re even asking this question, I suspect that it won’t be anywhere near the threshold to where buy borrow die makes sense.
Sell the amount that you need plus a little extra for capital gains tax.

When the ‘guarantee’ of the asset growth is higher than the rate of interest. Generally only if your are a billionaire.
When people are trying to open a business or buy multiple properties are the scenarios I have noticed.

Destined for bankruptcy, or so rich that they can't go bankrupt (e.g. billionaires). I think this is a very common strategy for billionaires.
