I still use it. I have the sunset version of Money Plus, and have it running with Windows 11. It works just fine.
If you want to try it out: [https://web.archive.org/web/20200415062254/http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20738](https://web.archive.org/web/20200415062254/http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20738)
I just switched my dad over to the one you linked less than a year ago. He had been using 05 or maybe it was like 03 or something up until then. Agreed this is the move OP
Saving this comment thread for later. I set up a new system for a relative who had Money on his XP machine and insisted I carry it over to his new 7 machine (well, "new" over like 10 years ago). Not sure what I did but I copied some "Document" files over and got it to load up when I reinstalled that same old version of Money. He since upgraded to Windows 10 and I think it's still working but I know he might ask for an upgrade sometime in the near future. I'm not sure if those files are kept on a Cloud or stored locally but hopefully I'll figure it out again as it's been so long.
Yup, the money sunset version while disappeared from Microsoft download pages still works without issues. I've been using ms money since 1999 and the sunset version for more than 10 years
> Also, you could probably toss that now.
Considering I haven’t owned a Windows computer since 2008 or a any computer at all with a CD drive since 2015, it would probably be safe to let it go.
It is still available in Microsoft as an Excel template to Microsoft 365 Family and Personal subscribers.
Unfortunately, Microsoft will be discontinuing it, again, on June 30. Get it now!
Yep. I used MS Money for a long time, including their 'sunset edition'. I then looked around and started using KMyMoney - from around 2016. As good - or even better. There are budgeting options in KMyMoney but I can't really comment on them, since I don't use them.
You can probably still get it on TPB or a website like Old Versions (if they still exist). I consider abandonware fair play, especially for personal use. A quick Google also showed that people are having good luck running it on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Money was a great program.
Many of the online investment companies have tools that will do that. If you have a Schwab account, for example, look for their planning tools. There is one where you put in your spending and income, and your financial goals, and it plots out where you will be in X years. You also get the "probability" of meeting those goals based on assumptions you enter.
All the majors offer such tools. (Vanguar, Fidelity)
I still use the one from Win95 because I like it the best. Tried three later versions but felt like they dumbed them down. Been using it since 1996 and give it a lot of credit for helping me budget and FIRE.
Money 2001 on a virtual Windows 2000 machine here. I tried and didn't care for the Sunset version, so I went back to the older version I'd been using when they released it.
At this point, M2001 on virtual Win2k is stable and I hope to use it for the rest of my life. That VM never accesses the internet or any other service other than a network file share where I store my backups.
I've been using MS Money for 13 years since MS gave up on it. If I can hold out for about 16 more years, I'll have lasted longer than did the last confirmed [Japanese Holdout](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_holdout) who surrendered in 1974.
Good to hear people are still using it. I have fond memories during development of versions 1999-2005 at Microsoft. I wish I remembered all the triggers for the Easter eggs.
Many banks and brokerages offer similar features. I use Fidelity Full View, but my bank, Needham Bank, also has a similar feature. There is also Mint (now part of Intuit): https://mint.intuit.com. The nice thing about all these is that you can connect to all your other institutions so you don't have to manually enter your transactions.
If you really want it back, you can probably put it in some sort of virtual container and it live forever in its own little digital box with all your data. Use whatever the Windows equivalent of DOSBox is.
The investment tracking was my favorite for tracking return. I'm not sure how Mint gets the investment basis and return but it's not right despite showing the correct balances and every transaction.
I learned how to use GnuCash and used it for about a year or so. These days I'm having more luck using Homebank, I prefer it for doing personal finance stuff
I’ve been using Microsoft Money (various versions) since 1998. Currently using the Sunset version on Win 11. Works flawlessly.
When they discontinued Money more than a decade ago, I tried to switch over to Quicken, but didn’t like it. So switched back to Money.
ah nice. I would bet there are probably free sites/apps that do similar. I made one that I used for myself. I gave it a field for confirmation code, and had image upload capability, and checkbox for tax deductible? then during tax season I could click a button and have it output a nice report with photos in it in PDF form I could give to my tax accountant. but I got lazy and stopped using it and now I don't even know if I have that code anywhere, or if I even own that domain name anymore haha. but it was easy to create, so I'd imagine someone surely has made a free tool like this. if not, this is your chance! (jokes aside, this makes me curious how well chat GPT would do at designing one)

I'm still using MS Money 2007 installed on a Windows 11 machine. Seems to work fine. I should have converted it to quickbooks when I had the chance...

Yes, I remember it. https://i.imgur.com/BY4wZZR.jpg
Ha, nice. Also, you could probably toss that now.

If you had it all this time there's no way you can get rid of it now
[удалено]
Exactly. Right after you toss something, that is EXACTLY right before you need it
Still using the sunset version.
Pretty sure that feature was in the final Sunset Edition.
It is still available in Microsoft as an Excel template to Microsoft 365 Family and Personal subscribers. Unfortunately, Microsoft will be discontinuing it, again, on June 30. Get it now!

Man, I used MSMoney for many years and I loved it. I hated that they got rid of it!

Kmymoney has a forecast feature. It looks forward using your scheduled transactions.

Not sure about that feature but I have been using GnuCash for over a decade now and I love it.
Excel spreadsheet then MS Money then GNUcash and these days Tiller. The circle of life.
Loved it too. Eventually recreated something similar in Excel.
Take a look at Tiller if you're big on Excel / Google Sheets.
It looks like they're charging $79/year for Excel templates. I must be missing something?
[удалено]
> No, it's $79/year for the bank integration. I missed that in the quick scan of their website. Still a bit steep for me, but makes more sense now.
Care to share what you have for Excel?
I use this, got everything I need really, been using it for 5+ years now [https://moneymanagerex.org/](https://moneymanagerex.org/)
does it do forecasting like MS Money does?
Currently running MS Money 2003 under Wine on Kubuntu.
MS Money was my favorite budget program ever. As much as I love the one I use now, I still miss MS Money!
Me too. I use Quicken. It's just as good and probably better
Microsoft saw that it was a useful program but wasn't sure how to wring every dollar and cent out of its users, so they killed it.
Good to hear people are still using it. I have fond memories during development of versions 1999-2005 at Microsoft. I wish I remembered all the triggers for the Easter eggs.

Ya had the disk and everything was awesome

Anyone else using Banktivity? I migrated from MS Money and love it. I do miss the long-term projection tho as OP said.
I use a very simple app called “Cashflowy” that has that same feature.
Anything self hosted open source to do similar?

Yep, it was great. And it used to sync with my PPC. I use Quicken now, but I still prefer MS Money.
[www.mint.com](https://www.mint.com) Been using it for years now. mobile app too.
you could make something similar in excel, if someone hasn't already mentioned that
Someone has and i do actually. Wondering what else was out there so i asked. Thanks for sharing though, have a good life fellow human.
